Technically, you’re right. He constantly used the Harmonic Minor scale, mashed Diminished arpeggios together, and overall gave off an eerie or minor tone a lot of the time. So technically yes, he was very “Metal”. But I would call him neoclassical Metal more than anything tbh.

With metal I feel that the music is only there as a means of delivering the metalness. In classical the music has far greater scope. Classical music is entirely more complex than rock/metal, unless we're talking about Prog. Plus there are no loud drums and cymbals on classical music. I'm a metalhead myself, but putting those loud metal drums over classical compositions just feel completely out of place, disconnected from the music. It's annoying.

absolutely. Progressive metal is very similar to classical music if you break it down in terms of song composition, harmony, melody, scales, etc.
Bill and Ted had Beethoven playing music on electric keyboards in a shop and out came Metal.
They were often rebellious counter cultural icons that pushed the edges of music and pioneered musical techniques.
