I tried this before (last month) after watching a few other videos. Gave up. Ready to try again and so glad I found your video. I really can tell where the fill bolt is and the best part is showing the tool to use. Glad you didn't edit out that it was not easy to remove.
When you go to fill it back up, you're supposed to jack the car down so it's level, remove the air box to access the fill plug, and fill it back up that way so you can top it off properly. Otherwise you can cause some damage if it's not properly filled.
You are correct in saying the car must be level to get the correct fill. However, there is an easy way to do this, if you don’t have jack stands, or don’t want to remove airbox. Simply jack up drivers side, & drain as shown in video,(be sure to safely block car, don’t depend on the jack). Remove block & lower jack, this will allow all fluid to drain. Jack car up again, & fill. Since the car is tilted up at the fill point, it will overfill. Lower jack, & excess fluid will drain to the proper level. Raise car & replace fill plug. Don’t forget crush washer, the old one might stick to the casing, & ALWAYS USE PROPER BLOCKING FOR SAFETY.
your videos are smooth. your kid is adorable. makes me want to have a baby with my gf. but early 20s man. nice videos i came across your vids because im getting a 2003 es300 and i saw you replaced a headlight bulb on a es330 same generation im getting. thank you brother
Thanks for this. I had to postpone half way because I didn't have the square tool for the drain plug. I didn't know a rachet head can fit in easily. And I just ordered one.
Cracking the plug seal requires minimum 3 prayers and you receive a hernia but it’s possible. I swear I’ve never dealt with a more problematic trans bolt then on my si. It’s so demoralizing working on this vehicle sometimes. Just wait till the oil change. You get the AMAZINGLY fun process of not only finding the filter but somehow getting that bad boy off. A fun car, but I’ll be getting rid of it ASAP for sure
LOL. I swear I thought I would never get my fill plug to open. I had to use lots of wd40! I ended up using my feet. Which I HIGHLY recommend for anyone. I couldn't use a rachet, too small for torque power. I couldn't get impact hammer drill to fit in, let alone the extension.
nice, I see you removed fill plug first. just never know when you run into a stubborn drain plug that is stuck. keep the video coming. love watching them.
Honda oil drains and some other bolts sit on an aluminum sealing washer. The won't size but do tighten up in aluminum housings. That's another story though.
P.S. there is another bolt above the fillplug if you were looking straight down at the engine. You could fill it from there. 1.5 qts should do her. Honda spec is 1.7-1.8, but some is left in there of course.
Sir, I've wanted to do a transmission change on my car too. Is the procedure same for 2013 Si too? And which side of the car are the fill and drain plug located?
What about the fluid that came out when you took the fill plug bolt out, some came out, when you took the top bolt off, and you didn't fill it up past that,so it's very low on fluid. It holds over two quarts. How you get the proper amount in, is still a mystery. Maybe only jack the fill side up for filling it. And to empty complete only the other Sorta like turning side to side.
thanks for the video !! finally a well descriptive video ! heres my problem,i bought my 08 si with 145k, i just hit 160k and have never changed my MTF, would you still reccomend changing it ?
Tyler Gomes I would. Only automatic transmissions I wouldn't change the fluid. Manuals don't matter it won't mess anything up it'll only make the transmission last longer
Yep change it. Honda MTs will get resiual metal build up from gear clash. Can wear out the shift fork shafts in the bottom case. It's cheap insurance to change it out. Honda service instructions are made to make the cost of maintenance look low. Like 10 K Miles on a maintenance minder oil change. Or an ATF change at 30 K miles which is partial. I do a 100% ATF change out on my Odyssey and am on my 4th one, 2016 EXL NAVI. 36,000 Miles and two complete ATF changes. I tow 3000 M annually hauling a Honda Fury on a custom trailer weighing 1000 lbs. I understand the Honda trannys and the only do well and live with regular 100% fluid changes.
My civic has two undertrays on it that need to come off first in order to get access to the trans fluid. So this looks easy but taking the under trays off is very time consuming.
No I don't rip people off, I replaced the ICM and coils, burnt white smoke is pouring out when its on. Im not to good those old push rod engines. I didn't ask for money I was doing it to help but I want it out of here so if you want it, its yours
you think its a problem if 30-50ml less is filled in? Because i messured the oil ive drained out. It was 1,9L (Accord 2.0 manual transmission). After that ive messured the new oil that ive filled in. But from in the Honda MTF3 Bottle remained 150ml. So it means either the MTF3 bottle markings arent correct or the messur bottle ive used wanst correctly marked.
If that side fill hole never comes out there is a top fill bolt much easier to fill also and it is same 17mm and gasket no need for that rubbish side fill haha.
Wow, not the way to do this. The correct way... put car level on 4 jack stands. Remove the top fill plug that faces up under the breather, I did not remove the breather box. Then put a drain pan under the trans and take out the bottom drain plug with ratchet and let it drain. Once drained, put back in the lower plug, torque to spec, then take out the upper plug (weep hole/level check) on the side above the lower drain plug. Run a funnel with a long clear rubber tube (tubing - auto or hardware / cut to length / $3.50) down into the top fill hole under the breather and fill until it starts to run out of the weep hole on the side, put the side plug back in the weep hole (torque to spec), wipe it down and then reinstall the top plug (torque to spec), you are done.
I have a 93 buick that is rusted out and won't start for the life of me. Im gonna ship it to you so u can make a video of it. I legally changed my name to Carol to Edwin
Wow really?? changed your name? must be running from someone or the government is on you for something. Been a long time since I heard from you. I miss you man!! Nah don't send over that POS Buick. I don't handle leftovers. But I bet it's an ignition issue. I thought you were the man?? I remember you saying " I live for NO STARTS" back up your saying!! How's business??
Yeah well I guess I ripped off to many people, Im not perfect,I prefer 96 & up, Id rather work on your honda's and toyotas that are rust free. It starts but dies, not a fuel issue either. Im gonna tow it to you. I will pay top dollar
Did you really rip them off?? I thought you said your time is worth it. Or did it just catch up to you? I wouldn't want you to tow it to me. If you did I would tow it to the desert and burn it. You're married to that car now. I'm not that crazy to give anyone my address. Whose naive to do that, NOT ME!! Top dollar?? Money don't change me. I am humble. I'm not greedy. 6 months ago, I repaired a friends car and I did not ask a dime. I did it because I want to and to help a friend that's tied up in cash. I really do believe God is watching. Stay true and always do the right thing, money ain't everything. Try replacing the ignition module underneath the coil packs. I did one on a 1999 LeSabre.
Edwin?? That's not your real name. Is this the infamous Carol Mikes?? Why you change your name?? Wow still want to bad mouth my videos. It's all good. YOU STILL A LOSER.
So far, this video is the best I’ve seen that visually shows each step and makes it look easy to do. Am going to mine on Friday.

Bruce Strong Correct but ain't no one got time for all that just jack up the rear as well as front so the car is level.
You are correct in saying the car must be level to get the correct fill.

how do u know if its filled
Calvin : by slightly over filling, as you’re filling it the fluid will start to pour back out of the fill hole when that happens it’s full
Bruce good proper advice!
your videos are smooth. your kid is adorable. makes me want to have a baby with my gf. but early 20s man. nice videos i came across your vids because im getting a 2003 es300 and i saw you replaced a headlight bulb on a es330 same generation im getting. thank you brother

I’m subbing, but i was super pissed watching this video. I regret getting a manual…lol. But this was incredibly helpful.
You are a life saver! Getting my items ready to take on this project.
Thanks. greetings from Mexico.
No speaker Very good. Muchas gracias.
Wait 132k first fluid change and it looked that good? Can't be true. Great vids by the way thanks for sharing your knowledge!
nice, I see you removed fill plug first. just never know when you run into a stubborn drain plug that is stuck. keep the video coming. love watching them.
He did it right. Always want to make sure you can remove the fill plug first before draining, right?
Honda oil drains and some other bolts sit on an aluminum sealing washer. The won't size but do tighten up in aluminum housings. That's another story though.

Just another note maybe to help someone. Nice video
Thank you Luke. I did not know that. Nice to know now. Have a great day.
Sir, I've wanted to do a transmission change on my car too. Is the procedure same for 2013 Si too? And which side of the car are the fill and drain plug located?
same
luke saylor thank you so much. My dad and I couldn’t figure out where the dipstick was. Very very helpful. Good video as well Fix It Angel!
Awesome video. Did not need any commenting. How refreshing.
Btw, you may want to use gloves next time. This stuff is not good for the skin.
How about torque specs for each bolt?
Question, why did you not replace the crush washer(s) when you had the bolt(s) off?
What about the fluid that came out when you took the fill plug bolt out, some came out, when you took the top bolt off, and you didn't fill it up past that,so it's very low on fluid. “Ah shit” lol. Thanks for the video
Haha laughed too

Sure is...they put so many of th one clips under there it's ridiculous. I think it's intentionally done to discourage us!😠
The fluid looks clean why you change a clean transmition
Thanks man made it a quick job.. other than cleaning my pump😏
Buen video amigo
Hoooo sulley you fuckin did it brah, props
Awesome!!👌👌

Upper bolt is for Filling and Lower bolt (square shaped inside; can I change this to hexagonal shaped?) is for Drain?
Nice last video I seen what 15 min long 😂u made itez
thank you good sir
Thanks you

gabrielwhite there would be no difference with 50 ml more or less
thanks! :)
So 2 quarts for the si model?
How many quarts does the transmission take? I ordered 2...
please read the video description
Same for LX?
How are you angel You have knowledge about the transmission of a civic si 2006 has transmission filter. Or just the fluid is replaced
miguel angel acosta hi, I'm good. How are you? This car is manual transmission so it does not have a filter. Just replace the fluid. Have a nice day.
Fix It Angel thankyou so much for you answer. do you know howmuch fluid exaclty you need to make the fluid change. i preciate alot.
miguel angel acosta, 1.5 qts should do
Is there anything different From a 2013 Honda civic si coup
Gear oil filter?
Good stuff, are the cooler lines located close to the transmission, I think I have a leak
Manual transmissions dont use coolers...
That oil was still clean. It didn’t need to be changed yet.
Thank you!
Mine is the 1.8 Sedan Dx. Is it the same procedure? I've seen pretty much this repeated in different videos.
Brad Hilsden yes I have a lx coupe manual transmission it's same exact
Hi, that trasmission need filter?
i would replace it since your doing the transmission fluid change anyway.
Is it the same for the r18
Thanks!
Hello beo i have a 92 honda civic dx hatchback TRANSMISIÓN MANUAL how many quart fluid need my car
what spray was used at the end ?
Joe Rod spray break cleaner on it any type will do that shot works on everything lol
Are the drain and fill locations very similar on an LX?
rellik187redrum same exact
what was that you used at the end to clean it?
Carburetor cleaner or brake cleaner
bro....this method will be same as a honda civic lx 2008...👍🏻
Can you out 2 quarts in it??
yes i think so
its 2 and a half quarts.
hi a question why have you changed the oil
Josue Moctezuma scheduled maintenance by miles
Fix It Angel thanks bro
i have a 2013 camry whit 72000 miles i want to change my trasmition oil can you a video how to due
Hi Mario, at 100K miles is when you need to do a transmission flush and you have to do it at the dealer. Sorry I do not have a video.
OK thanks angel I will do it
i just bought a 2009 civic si with 92000. how often is this recommended?
Epicgameclips each 40,000 km!
Epicgameclips I think it's like 50k miles depending on how you drive
Do you know the Order # number for Transmission Fluid
Junior Sanchez do you mean part#? You can google search that.
Just buy genuine honda manual transmission fluid. You can get it on amazon
always use genuine honda oil, MTF - 3
🙏
And can I fill from above with the hose method like the older civics?
rellik187redrum yea I did it from above so that I could do it on a level surface easier
I have 2010 Honda civic. I phoned a Honda dealership and he says there is no transmission filter to replace. It's all encased. IS that true.
Since its the dealership i would trust what they say is true.
Take the tire off the driver side it's much easier
Intimidator82 ok thank you
Yes this helps a lot. much easier to get access and see the bolts without straining your neck lol.
If that side fill hole never comes out there is a top fill bolt much easier to fill also and it is same 17mm and gasket no need for that rubbish side fill haha.
