    Always make sure you can loosen the fill plug before draining the fluid. If you had drained the fluid and couldn't get the fill plug loose, you would have been done for.

Thank you brotha for these videos. Only an owner of a Civic si knows how amazing this is as a daily driver. The last true civic generation. I have had absolutely not one issue with this car/engine. Going to do tune up and couldn't have done it without ya. Thanks again boss. !

    My 10th gen Si, shifting was not the smoothest, and the transmission was not as smooth as it could be. On first oil change, I also changed out the OEM fluid for Amsoil Synchromesh, and man am I happy! Butter smooth shifting and an overall smooth tranny! 7k miles later and everything is still smooth. I would recommend this for all Si's

    I just did this I n my 08 si sedan. I'm friends with the parts guy at honda dealership asked him about what bolt they remove to service tranny and it's the top 17 mm. it's a 300 dollar job from honda. 11 dollars for fluid rest in labor. I had to remove shroud cover under wipers. But then more than enough room set your funnel on. This way, on level ground should take both quarts. Good video man always cool seeing someone work on their own car.

NH has been real cool in the mornings some of them have been in the 30s with the ram air set up what a difference till it warms up... met a few more SI enthusiasts through Craigslist sales so if you ever make it back up this way we should have a whole tribe to make the Run... • @TheGerbsteve
      @TheGerbsteve  5 лет назад

      Great point. I’ve heard if you don’t crack the filler first, it can potentially stick and make it a mofo to crack loose.

  • @reggieh6038
    @reggieh6038 6 лет назад +4

    there's actually a better fill port even though its not really a fill port, that will top the transmission all the way up using both bottles. There is a sensor screw into the transmission next to your shift selector that you can remove and fill it through there.

    • @TheGerbsteve
      @TheGerbsteve  6 лет назад +5

    • @JacobMueller
      @JacobMueller Год назад +2

      Overfilling is an issue with these transmissions. The theory was that they used that hole at the factory and a lot of people found that it was overfilled from the factory. Using the main fill port is still the best idea.

  • @juliusjones8285
    @juliusjones8285 7 лет назад +1

    I don't do social media sorry but you have to remove plastic piece just middle section around wipers then metal shroud under that it will allow full access to exhaust side of motor. Were your filter is to the left you should see hoses by valve cover that bend and go down the back. Its down by there on top of housing. I used a long extension and two short ones. It has a washer its a 17mm bolt use flashlight first to find. Anymore questions feel free also let me know how it goes. I got pretty much 2quarts out and 2 quarts in.

  • @sanane1234bea
    @sanane1234bea 7 лет назад +8

    hey man you do need about 2 qt of fluid (check owner's manual). otherwise, you will cause damage. you probably drained all of the old fluid out. that's not why you were only able to put 1.5. that was because your car wasn't level and all the fluid was collecting on the side of the fill hole, causing the fluid to drip prematurely. i just did this service to my car. please add more fluid!

    Good video on where the bolts are.
    Tip I read is to always loosen the top filler bolt first just in case if you actually can't get it off after you actually drained the old fluid that you aren't screwed.
    Also I think you should've lowered the car off the jacks because you might've underfilled. plus if you're using different tranny fluids you should do another drain and fill just so you get rid of all the old stuff because you don't want diff fluids with diff additives mixed together for a long period of time (just in case)

    when I did mine,at 45,000 I drained, then while plug still out, I set car down, raised right side and got noticeably more to drain out. Filled with Amsoil. My third gear was fine before and of course after. But in winter months with a cold car 1st to 2nd shift is notchy until it warms up.
    I'm a big Amsoil fan, and this result surprised me. It was nothing to even notice with factory fluid in there. That was 60,000 miles ago so it's not the end of the world, and I have not changed back to Honda fluid.

    • @TheGerbsteve
      @TheGerbsteve  4 года назад

      Man, the amsoil in my car hated the winter, so I ended up changing back to Honda oem mtf for now. I did love the amsoil in the summer time though!
      I think amsoil and oem are the way to go. These cars have a lot of clutch/tranny issues regardless of fluid I feel like.

    • @jayc4283
      @jayc4283 4 года назад

      @@TheGerbsteve Good feedback, thanks !!! I gather going back to the OEM fluid was smoother in winter? My only issue is 1st to 2nd shift when it's 45-50 degree or less until it warms up. Forgot to say great video too !!

    • @jayc4283
      @jayc4283 4 года назад

      @mikhalu 13 I ended up with about 1.8 qts. Popular opinion is 1.7 is what it's supposed to hold, I would have to double check owners manual spec. If I remember correctly I had it level for fill and just stopped when it was to bottom of fill hole. I might have pulled airbox for easy viewing, I forget.
      Switching back to Honda fluid Friday, ran the Amsoil for 6 years, just tired of notchy winter 2nd gear (until fluid warms up). Found it on Amazon for $15 delivered for two quarts, now it's a different seller and $10 each delivered. I searched using the Lexus part number, but they shipped Honda fluid, they are the exact same thing. Cheers!

      Would you recommend a mix? One qt amsoil the other oe. I live in Ohio where it gets cold however I don't drive my si in the winter. Maybe a couple of times to get it moving. I run amsoil everything usually but I've heard about this cold issue. I would say because the amsoil is a 5w30 and the oe is more comparable to a 5w20. I love amsoil but I'm also a "if it ain't broke.." kinda guy..

    A story about Amsoil. I had a 1997 Chevy Suburban. I only ever used Amsoil engine oil and Transmission fluid on that vehicle. I ran 420 000 kilometres. Then my (ex) wife wrecked it. I had been trying to go 500 000 on one engine and one transmision just to say I could do it. I think I would have made it had my ex not wrecked it. I'm in northern Alberta. Think starting cold engines and transmission daily when it is -35 degrees out regularly and sometimes colder than -40. Amsoil has the lowest pour point of other automotive fluids. They stat explicity, if they are wrong, let their competitors demonstrate how they are not the best.
