Wonderful going away shot of 88072 with the snow whirling around in the slipstream! In fact, that locos seems to have put on the best performance of the lot!
Thanks, John, greatly enjoyed your superb video. Given the number of richly deserved and very complimentary comments, it's very hard to write anything different about such an achievement. I'm glad you obviously gained much satisfaction from this and, yes, the two mics have returned great sound to match the wonderful visuals. Well done also to the SVR. Kind regards, Bob.
I knew you would be there at some stage John and despite (or even because of) the weather you got some great footage. Probably much better than our sunny first day as the effects are stunning in the snow even if cold on the feet. All credit to the SVR for providing this spectacle against all the odds & well done John! Regards, Brian.
All credit to you John, It was certainly a 'game of two halves' with the weather and a shame for those who couldn't get there but the SVR did themselves proud in the conditions. Regards, Brian.
A truly fantastic video John in the very challenging weather conditions. Well done on bringing all the action of the gala to us. Great steam action and lovely sounds with the visuals. Regards - Allan.
Excellent coverage in the snow John! I was there on Friday & it was much like a Spring Day. As you've said what a contrast in the weather! Well done, Geraint
Wonderful video John, not quite the conditions one would expect for a spring gala but it certainly makes for some lovely scenes. Great displays from all the locos too
Great video, I was at Kiddy. The A1 wasn't one I saw but I will see it on the 24th so no problems there. I could keep warm by standing near the locos- you must have frozen!
It sure was rewarding!! Well done again and we might see each other at some point. I'll be on the Cross City line somewhere but I still can't decide where.
Beautifully framed shots John. Hard to chose a favourite but being an S & D man it's got to be the 7F at 2-38 I guess. Whilst it was indeed more pleasant on Friday your superb video must be extremely satisfying. Well Done. Alan
Very nice footage, I'm now watching this while sitting out the cold I got from this weekend. While the weather on Friday was very nice spring weather, on the Saturday, when I have been working in the Diesel Depot at this railway the weather was appaling, as you said the wind chill was ridiculous, especially on the Saturday. But the Sunday gave a nice surprise in the form of a white blanket over the valley, and despite having almost no train heat in several of the trains (were the footplate crew trying to save some coal?) it was a pleasant day, and I have been enjoying B12 8572 with her rake of Gresley teaks the most, both for looks and the spectacle provided on Eardington bank.
Perhaps British Rail could get a few tips here on how to keep a railway running when it snows?? ;-) Great atmosphere with those ethereal whistles echoing around. Lovely filming as usual, have you warmed up yet?
They did a great job, while the first trough train with 80072 departed 40 minutes late, and had to run this as a stopping service instead as a non stop, and the delay grow up to almost an hour, the last train to Bridgenorth with 6023 did only run 20 minutes late. On monday when heading for home the trains trough the Chunnel had a delay of up to 3 hours, and I heard people on the radio who had massive delays on Sunday on the National Network as well!
John Edkins : My little weather station was showing a nighttime temperature of -5C with, at times, gusting wind chill of -14C. You are certainly dedicated.
This is the first time I've seen your videos. This is a great video, I really enjoyed it. A friend and I had planned to go, but due to the weather we decided that it would be unwise (we live relatively nearby in Dudley, but we are both in our 70's). Probably a wise decision for us, but I'm so glad to be able to view this to see what we missed. Please excuse or ignore what follows, but with the greatest respect, *I* (just my personal opinion) think that the white balance is not ideal and not very consistent (auto settings are not always the answer!!). I think (again just a personal comment) exposure could benefit a bit using post-production software (lift shadows?). But please understand the most IMPORTANT point for me is that you are providing an excellent service by giving us these videos, and I really enjoyed them, and will look for more now, and I apologise for any apparent criticism, as an obsessive photo enthusiast and techie, regarding *MY* opinions on photo/video issues. Sound is great, I always find this difficult! Many thanks again.
Mike, stop being obsessed with photography. It's not about white balance at all. You've missed the point here. This video is about the wonderful effects of Steam in a Winter Wonderland. Nothing could be more atmospheric than this. The video is steam-tastic the way it is. If the video had been mine, I'd keep it the way it is. Steam & Snow is a magical combination that we hardly ever see in this present era. This is a wonderful reminder of the days when a photographer would make a valiant effort to capture Snow & Steam at its very best.
Electrics wouldn't cope in weather like this with downed overheads get rid bring back steam copes better in this weather is now frozen water cranes ect but that what braziers where for.steam is king and will all ways be
Very eerie sound with the snow blanketing the scenery, makes for an excellent video.
Absolutely wonderful. Excellent.
Great filming! Looks great in the snow!
@@GreatBritishRailways1 certainly not but you know the great British weather! You did a great job though
Wonderful scenes there, John. Well done for taking advantage of the conditions and producing a great video. Keith.
"chapeau" for braving the elements and posting this special video for our pleasure. Many thanks.

Great video John. Well done braving the arctic conditions. Regards Jake.
Super, Super video, John. Beautifully composed and framed, great locations and the snow gives a great atmosphere - TOP stuff.

Lovely snowy footage in this video. Blue BR K.E.2 looking great, it would be nice if K.E.2 visited my local Kent and East Sussex Railway.
Great sound John, and the pictures are none too shabby either :-) Thanks for braving the cold - I went Friday, but to travel, not film. Regards, Rob
Excellent coverage in the snow John!
I was there on Friday & it was much like a Spring Day.
As you've said what a contrast in the weather!
Well done, Geraint
Didn't we just! Geraint
John that was brilliant you captured the atmosphere spot on, wish I'd gone. Regards Mike.

Good footage John, hope you have warmed up now
Cracking stuff John , lovely spring weather but being serious snow and steam are a recipe for success.
It's was an really good day in the snow, the railway really handled it well, and in the end we got some great pictures!
Very much appreciated for lovely video too!
Great snowy video :)
Stunning footage John, you certainly had the best conditions over the weekend...Regards...Bob
I hope to get there John, if you're going we may finally meet!...Regards...Bob
An excellent collection of shots, you must have frozen. Regards Chris
