Oh wow. Thanks for the educational tutorial on cleaning pools. It was useful for me. I'm glad I watched your video till the end. It was awesome, now I know how to clean pools. Thank you very much. Love from Fiji. Bye.
THank you. After watching a few videos, I found yours, which has the best instructions for me, since my pool equipment is close the one on the video. Awesome.
overall, nice video but it would have been nice to see how the vacuum is set up with the actual vacuum and vacuum hose. Also helpful on the backfill as I need to do this and I don't know how to do it.
Just bought a house with a in ground pool and have no idea what I’m doing. This was a great start to learning how everything functions. I guess my first question among many is when you’re turning the handle on the 3 way valve I’m assuming the handle is the arrow or what I’m wanting to switch to. Just seems like the other way around. Thanks
I have no backwash bib. Only way to drain pool to lower level in case of lots of rain would be to remove the cap on back of filter… that’ll kill the surrounding grass around the equipment.
Sounds like when you attach your vacuum to skimmer 1 your pump starts sucking off skimmer 2 because it's less resistance without your 30 plus foot vacuum hose on it. The cure is to shut the valve going to it in the pump room or if there is no valve you will have to plug one of your skimmers with a 1 1/2 inch or 2inch plug.
@@Poolelementary I stuck a tennis ball in skimmer 2. I just can’t tell if the vac is sucking or just moving dead algae around. My backwash viewer is clear. Maybe I’ll drain the pool and let kids use it as a skatepark for $10 a day. L
hi, Good day, i try to clean my pump busket i turn my 2 ways bulb into off position, but then the water is flowing upon opening the pump, can you help me please thank you
If you have a sand filter with a Multiport valve you can put that on the closed position eliminating water coming back through the filter from the return lines. If no multiport valve and there's no other valves to turn off you will have to install new valves on both the suction and return side of your pump or cap off your return jets and skimmer with winter plugs while you clean your pump basket
Anytime you have to stop and clean your pump basket or prime your pool pump the air that was in your pump and lines gets pushed into your filter and gets trapped in the top portion. Normally there is a air bleeding valve either on the assembly piece that the pressure gauge is attached to or across from the pressure gauge on the top of the filter. note not all filters have a bleeding valve such as some top mount sand filters where the multi-port valve handle is on the top of the filter and also some of your smaller cartridge filters. I normally bleed the air out of them when i am all finished vacuuming and done opening up my pump. with an air bleeding valve you will open it until the air stops hissing and you get a steady stream of water squirting out.
I would've thought you'd sweep the walls and steps down before you vacuum the bottom? Seems like you'd be throwing dirt down, after you vacuumed the floor clean? Just asking.
Thank you! Finally someone with some sense and who gets me. You wont believe how much crap i get from customers and employees like im going to stir up the whole pool. Im simply gently brushing the dirt off the high spots like steps and benches without stirring it up too much. By the time you get your vacuum stuff put together the dirt will settle to the bottom. Im basically trying to just get the dirt to the floor so vacuuming is alot easier.
I'm curious when I can use my dolphin oasis pool cleaner for the first time..I just bought it and haven't used it. I hired a pool company for green to clean and after 6 visits 90% of the debris is gone..but still a lot of algae piles..do I have to vacuum to waste all of it out before putting the dolphin in for the first time? This is the first year I'm using a robot to clean pool I fought it the year before with manual vacuum and just didn't have the time to maintain. Thank you for the help and the great videos you have provided
The pump should be ok unless we're talking about alot of sand. If we're talking like 20 pounds or a half a bucket of sand it could start wearing down the impeller. I've only seen that much sand if there was problems with a sand filter. In that situation we netted out about 50 pounds of sand and touched up the rest with the manual vacuum with no effects to the pump.
If the pool is super dirty and in the process of recirculation the skimmer filled up and lifted such that dirt was going right through even to the pump basket, what do you suggest I do first. I noticed less suction when I turned in the pump so I think there's debris clogging things somewhere. The water is also green with algae
I would definitely get the pump to run properly first thing to help with debris in the line. Make sure pump basket and skimmer basket are cleaned. Then I would backwash filter or spray off your cartridge filter. Fire up the pump and see if you can get your normal flow back. If not you might have something stuck in the line. If so I have used a shop vac and sucked back through the skimmer or they make a drain clog balloon that screws onto a garden hose and put it in the suction side of the pump housing and forced water back to the skimmer unclogging it. For the algae the answer is as always chlorine. I don't recommend vacuuming the pool until you can see what your vacuuming off the bottom.
Hello, new to vacuuming the pool how does the vacuum hose connect to the skimmer? bought one but doesnt really stay connected to the skimmer, if you leave it alone it floats up does the vacuum pressure keep it connected. seems the skimmer port is larger then the 1 1/2" vacuum hose.
Hi! I'm new to owning a pool that was inherited. I just replaced the old pump with a Game Sandpro, but it doesn't have a waste option on the valve. Can I vacuum the floor of my Intex above ground pool on any other settings? This pump has Filtration, Backwash, Rinse, Closed, and Winterize/Drain as its options. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Usually the drain setting is the same as waste. They both bypass the filter and are used to drain or vacuum the pool. Thanks for watching pool elementary and good luck with your pool ti352!
Thank you for this. i removed the plate that attached to the hose and goes over the skimmer and hooked the hose directly. This increased the suction with at least 2x the power as before.
I would first check to make sure the skimmer and pump baskets are clean then I would clean the filter or backwash the sand filter. If the pressure Guage still says zero and the pump and flow of water coming out of the return jet in the pool seem to be flowing good all thats left is changing the pressure Guage out.
Great video! Im still having issues with my pool , it seems like a never ending process when it comes about suctioning the debris from the bottom of my pool. I have done it many times and still debris in the bottom of the pool. By the way i cant tell which one is the skimmer or main drain since there is no name on the piping. Help?
If you have a sand filter on your pool you might try vacuuming to waste to bypass the filter and send that junk on the bottom of your pool straight out the backwash line. if you do have a sand filter and need direction check out my other video ( How to vacuum a pool to waste with a sand filter. when I can't tell which line is the skimmer and the main drain coming into the pump I just shut one valve and then go check to see if my skimmer is still pulling water. If it is you just shut the valve to the maindrain or vice versa. The battle of getting the pool clean can seem like an eternity but keep at it and you will tackle it soon enough!
It will but you will have to empty the pump basket constantly if there's more than a few handfuls of leaves in the pool. A leaf net or a vacuum with a leaf bag works best on big leaf removal jobs.
My pool vacuum keeps getting stuck on the bottom of the pool as I manually vacuum. Also, I am having trouble picking up the fine sediment on the bottom of the pool.
There is links in the description box to this video for Amazon and you will have to search for the telescopic pool pole. Local pool stores will also have a variety of these also.
Most of the pool Vacuums attachment hooks to a 1-1/4 inch to a 1-1/2 inch hose which hooks to your skimmer line. Now if your vacuuming leaves they do make a vacuum that attaches to a garden hose that creates suction when the garden hose pushes water to the vacuum. The reason most Vacuums don't come with hoses is all pools require a different length hose and the longer the more expensive they are.
@@Poolelementary yeah because when I turn it on it pops off and the dirt goes right through the net back into the pool making it foggy and just pushes dirt around instead of collecting it
Hello Justin. I recently acquired my parents’ home that has a pool and spa. I am a total rookie when it comes to pool knowledge. I have a valve system that I need help identifying. If I send you pictures of my valve setup, would you be able to help me identify the valves and their function? If yes, I suppose I would have to communicate w you via email in order to show you the pictures. Would sure appreciate the help if you can. Thanks! Mike El Paso, Texas.
If you know where the filter position is then normally waste is one notch to the right and backwash is 180 degrees or the opposite side of filter position. You want to check out the brand of filter you have and Google it to see of you cab find a pic of that multiport valve to make sure. Good luck and thanks for watching Jeremy!
So a better way to prime your hose is to attach it to the vacuum head, put it in the pool and feed your hose into the pool until you get to the end and water actually comes out of the end of the hose in your hand. You can then put the end of the hose in your skimmer or attach to your vacuum and start to clean.

The filter just exploded! I need a Dallas, TX pool professional.
I would say yes some one should definitely see what you got going on there in person 😉

Do you shut off the main line when vacuuming algae straight to waste like in the other video?
Yes you would shut the main drain line and leave only the skimmer line open when vacuuming
Will not using a skimmer plate clog the skimmer eventually?
