    Thanks for the react asmon.
Just like to say that after thinking about this a bit more I think the biggest problem in this change and where asmon rightly brings up "you can't get your own partnerships" and how this is good because it allows you to get things at the click of a button. I think that is true, but also probably the bigger issue at play.
Realistically, for every 1 sponsor amazon brings on, that's potentially 1 less sponsor that would deal with you or an agent personally. If this was to become the norm for twitch partnerships, I can't see it ever being a good thing for the streamer. No guarantee, but I think by the time we saw the grand master plan it would be a little late to change things and we only have to look at how amazon has done similar things in other markets they dominate over time, such as how they treat their amazon basics. If amazon could subsidize and streamline sponsors for twitch, sure that would look cool short term if you don't want to do the leg work to get them or management yourself, but it would also potentially and imo most likely monopolize the market giving you little to no choice. We all know there's a handful of big games/products that you see everywhere online, it wouldn't take a ton of effort/adoption to make the pool of potential sponsors incredibly small for third party/off platform negotiation. It could actually be amazing for the short/medium term, but my issue is always going to be long term.
Not an immediate problem, but corporations don't usually think in terms of short term and if we do, then by the time we notice it's likely already too late. Not the biggest deal in the world, but worth thinking about for anyone who has too much time on their hands like me. And on top of that, in the long line of issues I think the worst part even ignoring the potential, it's the optics of doing this at a time that all news is bad and kick is banging at the door for the people this might even matter to.

Most of what you're saying here is based on speculation that Twitch are acting in bad faith. This could be the case but until we see this happen when this policy is put into practice, nothing really stands out as being shady at this time.

    • @Gainz__
      @Gainz__ Год назад +6

I can see that becoming an issue for streamers with an average views of 500+. Generally speaking, it doesn't make much sense currently for most companies to deal streamers who are smaller than that, and agencies wouldn't spend the time to rep them for companies.
However, the vast majority of twitch partners have no access to these resources and sources of secondary income. This change would immediately allow them to make significantly more money. Is 50% a lot? Sure, but 100% of 0 is 0.
There is still value to companies for larger creators with audiences who know, like, and trust them. They may even still get a higher ROI going with bespoke content. Also, there are many companies who may not have the funds to market to streamers with large audiences who may ask for upwards of six figures for a single stream. This seems like it would add more to the total market value of sponsorships than take away.
At the end of the day, Twitch faces 2 large problems: They don't make enough money as a business unit to remain profitable and their ads cannibalize their live content ecosystem which directly discourages viewers from finding new content sources. This may be something that helps Twitch remain competitive and become profitable, but only time will tell on that.

And now Twitch wants to take more and more from the very people that made their platform successful and popular and its the smaller creator's now that are getting shafted. Kick has one major issue going forward, sustainability. It's still in the red as far as cost, and will need to figure out how to get some type of revenue, wether it be Ad revenue, or not. It will end up the Twitch route unless they can figure out something better. People can say, oh they have Stake. But eventually loss leaders need to make revenue. I think a smaller streamer getting 50 or 100 gifted subs would be huge for audience retention. I would get less money now for more and longer viewership. I would also be more inclined to sub to a streamer who decided to take less money from sponsors so the viewers don't have to watch ads, but ultimately the money they made was more than adsense. This is definitely better for chatters and definitely better for up and comings to retain the audience.

I rather get 10% from 1 million deals versus 50% of 100k. But that takes time ofc. and current wave has to build for future. Only works with trust / time and selflessness. Offer the sponsor to pay you 8k for the sponsorship. You make more money and the sponsor pays less overall. Easy clap, everyone's happy.

The idea that bits/subs could be used in place of real money that could enter the streamer's pocket pretty quickly, that is then introduced into Twitch's system, potentially MORE money is taken via the 50/50 split, and on top of that, the streamer has to wait till "payday" from Twitch.
This sounds very much like a way for Twitch to make money, then have money for (bits, subs, etc) streamer's flow thru Twitch AGAIN, maybe giving the illusion of more money, potentially double, flowing thru the company, and people can look at these numbers and feel good at a director's meeting, then ask, "Now how can we chip away at that last 50%?"
Cause I'll never give a company, the government, or a drug dealer the benefit of the doubt. Ever. They are there to make money and potentially relationships that lead to more/more stable, money.

"Why would a viewer go to Kick?"
To avoid ads and censorship are probably the two biggest reasons, as Asmon said, but there is one more I would include.
Knowing you aren't giving $2.50 of your hard-earned money to Twitch just to give $2.50 to your favorite streamer.
It may shock some people who don't sub to anyone, but many people sub to people's Patreon/Twitch/RUclips, etc. for no other reason than to support their favorite content creators. More surprisingly, those that *do* sub for the badges/extra content/etc. *also* want to support the creators. If you can get the same bonus content for $5.00 on two different sites; one site gives $2.50 of that $5.00 to the creator you paid for it, but another site gives them $4.50 of that same $5.00; which one would you rather give your money to? If Kick gives you little logos next to your name for subbing like Twitch does, why not give the content creator more money at no additional cost to you?

I think Asmond said it himself when the new changes were announced. I think he's gonna look like an idiot for defending this stuff when it gets fully rolled out and implemented in such a way that streamers do in fact make less money than they would otherwise. Especially the smaller streamers. All twitch has done is provide sponsors a way to avoid paying streamers directly so that twitch gets a cut and the streamers get less overall.

The other thing about this whole shebang, after Twitch, your agent or rep company (if you have one) takes their cut, guess who is next! Uncle Sam!
So between all of this you're effectively having 70-85% of your income stripped from you depending on your income level.
Now, your agent, and twitch, are providing some service to you, but i think twitch's argument that they deserve half off the top is abjectly fucking absurd.

A lot of points he made seem to forget one major thing. The Viewer experience and retention. You can make money as a streamer, but how many people just leave during adds or add reads?

    • @Temperans

You need ads and ad reads to make the money, or go the VTuber route and effective become your own sponsor.
Saying "ads is bad" is also saying "streamers should not get paid".

People who don't like what twitch is doing have no business sense ' it's all pretty standard. Look at sports stars and look up their agents! They are just as rich as the people they represent because they will take 50 % of all of the money they get through sponsorships . Plus it helps smaller steamers get sponsored and get more recognition.

They were foolish to ever give these would-be-walmart-employees as big a cut as they did to begin with. They're no talents. They would have taken almost anything. This is just a case of no talent lightweights getting a little too big for their own britches and forgetting who runs this place. Think about how disposable all these c l o w n s are. They're ultimately nothing but wimpy ads for games and gambling. Dime a dozen. Millions of disposable people that can be replaced instantly.
