Loved these two vids mate.Often thought about doing something like this after watching the Diesel Creeks of You Tube but luckily haven't.My skill set is way less than yours so would be doomed to fail.I admire that you have documented all this.
    Cheers

As a mechanic I feel your pain, I hate when I think I have a good way to solve a problem and it ends up leading to more work! Keep up the good work!

Hey Brad, really enjoy these videos. Just a tip, if you are replacing the hose anyway, you can slice down the end of the hose you’re trying to slide off with a razor blade and it will come off a lot easier. Pulling on it kind of creates a Chinese fingertrap situation, so if you’re not replacing it, it’s easiest to pry it off with a big screwdriver or set of pliers or something similar.

Well, if there is any positive, you learned something about yourself that you didn't know, and I really enjoyed the video, I watched the whole thing.
This is similar to what happened to me over a year or so. I always thought I wanted to be a driver for a living. So I took classes this year to get my CDL. Got my CDL, started applying, and ended up with a job that would get me home every weekend. I had to go to a 2-week orientation and a week on the road with the trainer. Once that time was up, I knew immediately I did NOT want to be a truck driver. Time away from family wasn't worth it, the amount of hours you work and the load of other DOT BS you have to jump through.
But you don't know what you don't know, and I learned something about myself, so it wasn't a total loss, but experience gained.
I look forward to your videos, really enjoy the trash ones, excited to see you one day when you buy a trash truck!!! Take care Brad.

You were overthinking the cable to the frame. Just cut it off and abandon it. Run a new ground cable to an easier spot to get to.
This is a great lesson in the difference in tinkering vs rebuilding. And knowing your limits. It’s why I do my best to buy equipment that’s running and operating but just needs a few small repairs. I went through the same stuff with a 70s bobcat. Now I have a 90s new holland that’s been a tank.

Weve all been there on a project and bit off more than we can chew , you did the smsrt thing and cut your losses i watch those same channels as you and you really got to be setup for it like diesel creek is and even he fails . I always get frustrated working on my own stuff lol

On those big hoses, grip them with some channel locks and spin them in place. on smaller hoses, I got a set of hose pliers at Harbor Freight to do the same. they come in handy. If you are worried about damaging the end of the hose, put a rag between it and the pliers.

If you have a stuck bolt, you can strike the top with a hammer. This shocks the rust and gives you a chance to move the bolt further.

"I don't enjoy fixing up old machines, I just enjoy watching people do it on RUclips." Very well said sir! I am a small engine mechanic by trade, I mad a conscious choice to not work on diesel machines that are over 20-years old, because they always tend to just be like this, a complete PITA. And often times more then not, you can't get replacement parts for an outdated machine, especially if its made overseas. You did a good job filming it though, as I spotted multiple problems with this machine, the milky hydraulic oil was among many in the list. You did the right thing to cut your losses. Just buy a new but lightly used skidsteer, and you will enjoy life more, only having to do basic maintenance on it, not full restorations.

Yup...think I like watching more than frustrating myself too....made my own skid steer starting with white hydraulic motors (used from tip shop)...for the motors I've replaced bearings, seals, rotor, surface ground and lapped commutator surfaces (no spares for motor ,too old) back and forth for weeks...just should have bought new ones...easier to watch others,I think.

Man that hydraulic oil looks a little milky. Your best bet would probably be draining the hydraulic system and fill it with fresh oil.

I flip trailers on the side, but i don't record,
Their has been 2 trailers I said F it sell it for what ever
you also could have put it through action but could have sold for less then that so its OK to take a loss, its just don't take a huge loss

If you ever do a project like that again make sure runs and operates first only spend $ to get running first and if cost prohibited stop at that point as the saying goes live and learn trust me we have all been there unless you like huge payment's every month like most kids do these days

Lessons learned: don't buy real old equipment unless you have a bottomless bank account and don't purchase equipment you don't really need to run your business properly.

Well, I watch diesel Creek too and he does make things look a lot easier than they really are in real life, but you have to remember that he is a full-time mechanic. This is what he does. He works on heavy equipment so it kind of comes as second nature to him to get these things done so don’t feel too bad and beat up yourself too bad on it. At least you tried to make every effort to make it work, maybe get you another project of something else maybe not as big of a deal and do that and tinker with it. We always have to have something to pass her Time away in my business with what I do I’m a LOCKSMITH by trade. I mess with a little small tedious parts all the time and this kind of job is not for somebody that has nerves that are on in all the time because everything doesn’t work perfect you just have to be patient And this is a very patient type job so I’m saying is don’t let it beat you down. Keep your chin up and try again with something else that you enjoy. 😊

I watched a random video that popped up in my feed the other day about a guy starting a garbage business. Thought of you. The guy bought a used garbage truck with a retractable claw kinda of what your after I think. It was used by a city and well maintained. Think it ran him $35000.00 I think he took out a personal loan to buy it. Anyway just a suggestion.
