I don't think I need one now that I just turned 80, but I found I can rent one for a day via Home Depot that I will use this spring to resurface my 300' driveway with a load of crusher run stone. I have a small grader for the finishing touch. Very informative video Mike. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Love the videos. Great info on the Chinese stuff. I’m a retired machinist and bought a Chinese lathe and mill. They’re not as strong as the equipment I used when I was working but they’ve worked good in my home shop.

Hey Mike are you gonna do a video on your land improvements? You have done a ton of improvement over the years and it would be interesting to see how you have implemented the changes to the grounds.
Mike, I've watched a lot of your videos and have always been impressed with the quality and content. Thanks a lot for covering interesting topics. And just so you know,I've been a mechanic for 50+ years and am still learning😅.
Thanks for all the videos. You give a lot of good info in your RUclips channel and I’m very appreciative to watch your channel it’s one my favorites on RUclips to watch.
Nice machine you got there! One thing I love with the full size one I use, is the triple flange idle wheels. When a track comes "off", it's nearly always just on one of the outer flanges. Just roll forward or back, and it pops right back in place. I can count on one hand the number of times I've actually had to loosen the track to get it back on.
Always good to get an honest review about stuff like this. Maybe not a "brand name" machine, and yea - it is Chinese build, but as you said, for the amount of work you do with it, it is affordable and very suited to your requirements.
something nice :) yeah I agree about the "used" stuff you have to work on it too. the new stuff is easier to work on - so it is a win :) Ive had a really old CAT dozer [1936 or(?)] it required some work, but it came with the property. I used it many years [with a few mods] ;) my next CAT dozer was new "er" [1978] electric start! Thanks Mike for a very informative video. I hope one day you get back to building something or heavily modifying a project. I really enjoy watching the your videos on that. Merry Christmas
That looks like a great addition to your small fleet of equipment.(pun intended). Merry Christmas Mike, and the Festiva family. I also with the fans over the World, a very Happy holiday, and a safe Happy New Year .
Enjoyed the video, thanx for sharing. Looking forwards to seeing more of this mini skid steer. I just got a mini excavator delivered and i get what you mean with the quality control, im going over it now changing grease fittings and so on. Some are those needle nose grease fittings and i want the normal kind all over + some of the normal kind was already busted from the factory and there was quite a few loose bolts.
Hey Mike! I just ordered a Rippa mini-excavator direct from the factory. The sales manager (Halcyon) is great! Good followup so far and prices seem very good. I chose this brand due to your in depth analysis of the "little details" that I found lacking on other brands (like marking each fitting that was tightened properly, grommets around wires going through metal, hoses routed inside the boom etc.) They said it would take a while but that's OK as it's winter here in Georgia and I wouldn't be using it anyway! Supposedly it will be delivered to our rural home. I told them we live in a remote area and an 18-wheeler couldn't get here so there's that. They said no problem so here we go! My accountant said I didn't have to pay sales tax. I was going to get a Harbor Freight tow-able backhoe (but would have to pay sales tax) , but this does so much more! Got the hydraulic thumb, expandable tracks, swing boom and a ripper and narrow bucket as extras to save shipping for less than 2K more than HF! Thanks again for your video! Hope this works!
Great video thanks ill no to get one with tires if i can afford to lol i would be using it at storage on gravel to move engines and stuff like that around!!!!!
Yes I can fine tune the flow of each valve, they aren’t just on/off, you can easily vary the flow to make smooth turns by slowing one track a little bit, the valves are fairly smooth. The bucket doesn’t self level, this model didn’t have that option, but there are many models available with that available.
Excellent little machine looks more capable than I would have thought, here in Australia, we only have imported machines, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones, Have a Merry Christmas
Within the next year: how to build a DIY skid steer. Joking aside, I actually wish there was such a thing as a micro skid steer. Basically a narrow, powered shovel that wouldn’t take up too much room and could get into any space.
Great video Mike. Thanks! Most half decent Chinese stuff is okay these days. They know how to manufacture good stuff. Often it’s just putting it together and QC that’s lacking. Always worth going through a new machine and checking everything before the get go. It’ll make for less issues down the line.
Please do a video on your cooler installation! I'm working on (well starting to work on) adding a cooler to my R319 and I need some info on the fitting sizes (having to work with multi-standard connectors is a chore, some fittings M, some 3/4 etc). Looks like it's the same cooler as well, AH0608T correct? Also if you could give a second opinion on that I'm attempting to install it connected to the filter (filter first) would be swell. Sounds logical but who knows.
I will try and post a short video on the cooler. I actually just got rid of the DIN style fittings and TIG welded on simple JIC fittings to adapt to JIC for the cooler. It made the cooler swap really easy to do 👍
If you had to pick one, would you go for the mini skid or the mini ex? Which one would get more use for typical land management, digging, moving dirt, logs, branches, etc?
Cool bit of kit , now all you need to make is a good size trailer to go behind your DIY dump truck , to fit your Digger and skid steer on and you got one hell of a good setup for your property.
Awesome video! I'm 52 years old. I'm moderately mechanically able! I want a mini skid steer from China There is a dealer near me that sells them like $4,700 with new fluids etc services I'm 100% sure the 1 cylinder 13.5 ish horsepower unit would be more than enough for me. My use would be around my yard/ house stuff
Man they are back savers! My back has been messed up since I was 13, so if I can have a machine do the lifting I definitely will. For that price especially with new oils installed, it’s really hard to beat. The 13.5 works great in this skid steer. Take care 😊
Ditch Witch SK series are nice, but very expensive. Used an SK750 at my last job as a landscaper. Something like this machine would be very helpful for small yards. Does this machine have a stanard mini skid steer attachment or an oddball size? One could find a small skid steer snowblower if the triple pump setup has the power to run it and use it for the winter.
Thanks for checking out my channel 👍 I think you will find a lot of interesting topics of videos I have made over the years. 😊 Have a great holiday season 🎅🏽🎄😊
Definitely, it’s pretty amazing just how much work you can get done with these little machines. I have a messed up back since I was a kid so cutting down on shovel work and lifting is really helpful for me. Happy Holidays 🎄🎅🏽👍
Nice machine, and with a little bit of mechanical sympathy it will give you years of service. Thanks for the review. Now you need to make a 4 in 1 bucket for spreading and grading that gravel!
Wassup Mike. I do like it, and honestly if I went back in time, I would have had an internal debate between one of these import wheeled mini skids as opposed to the MF scut I bought a number of years back. I love my GC 1710, but personally a lot of the backhoe work I do with it I could probably get by with a stump bucket anyways. As for loader work, that would be awesome standing instead of sitting...my stand-on mower convinced me it's way superior in both function and fun factor lol.
Thanks for the video. I bought one of these a couple months ago. You mentioned a grapple build video. I can't find it listed in your videos... I'd like to see how you built it and where you got the hydraulic cylinder. I saw a couple vevor cylinders that seem like they might work with my machine.
So far I haven’t needed anything for my Rippa mini excavator, I put 50 hours on it in a year. If I find any good parts websites I will post some info about it. Take care 👍😊
Wish they would set up the dual pump like the old Dingo's with a selector valve, which give you more speed and combiner valve where you take and put more to the auxiliary and less to drive motor to let you run trencher.
I have no idea about any of this stuff but it sorta looks like you have enough work to use a much bigger skid steer. Id be curious if you crossed shopped a bigger one with an enclosure.
I vary well could have used a bigger machine at times but honestly don’t have the budget to afford a bigger machine. I do however need something compact to work between tight trees and buildings. I also like the fact I can load it into my truck with zero problems. Bigger machine would also require a heavy duty trailer. Thanks for checking out my new video 👍😊
These machines are interesting and certainly have their place but if they cost much more I think in general a used compact utility tractor would make more sense. Travel speeds on these and the mini exs is awfully slow, almost painful.
That pump configuration seems bit stupid to me. I have similar (older) machine that is made in finland, it has dual pump, other pump is for both drives, and other for all loader controls, thats nice so when you drive and same time operate the loader, the machine wont turn, since part of the pump capasity would go to loader instead of track. Also the auxilary hydraulic is on the loaderpump.
Im a little leary about getting expensive stuff from the internet. My neighbor bought his 8 year old son a small trail bike. Problem after problem with it. Chain came off and the tighner bolt on one side had stripped threads. Front tire developed a bubble at 36 psi the size of a golf ball. Engine mount bolts I was able to turn with my fingers. I used to own a small engine repair business and helped him with it. Not everyone has a neighbor like that. This place in Texas, can one go there and buy a mini excavator, pick it up and drive home with it? If so, I might make a trip down there. Im not going to make a 6 or 7 thousand dollar purchase online. I have to see the product before I buy it and take it.
Mine has a quick attachment plate and it is the dingo style, it’s great 👍 I also have a set of forks and my log grapple that can be switched out in a minute or two 😊
Haha I ordered a yellow one and this showed up 🤣 definitely not a color scheme I would have picked but it’s what I ended up with. Thanks for checking out my new video.
i totally get you point mike why buy something used with 1000 hours when you can buy a cheap machine from china, i have been looking a lot at a slam smx 250 dirt bike. and am considering building it into a motorad/flat track with lights
