Watching this in 2023 I am struck by how articulate he is but also how articulate he is in comparison to actors today who basically just keep saying "amazing...amazing... the director was amazing... this person was amazing... it was all amazing." It says if there's only one descriptive today and it's "amazing"! It is so disturbing today how even actors who should be able to articulate don't articulate well at all in natural conversation, let's say in an interview as Mark is doing here, again, very articulately!
+Jacob W Rossi Hamill has done a lot more than just voice overs. He was pretty much typecast as Luke Skywalker and was actually turned down for roles by directors because of the public perception of him as Luke. He had a successful career on and off Broadway for years.
is it me, or when he was young, during an interviews he was trying to sound as soft, calm and pretty as he can, like angel sorta style? because it`s so weird and funny, because now it seems like he`s trying to do exact opposite thing, like sound as loud, low and crazy? like joker kinda style? because i love it and it`s awesome! such a cool guy.
+charlie highwalker I don't think he was trying when he was younger. The man is 64 now. How many 64 year olds sound "angelic?" Also, he's probably gotten so used to The Joker that the voice has gotten into him normally a bit.
He did, but he also lost his babyface and that made it more noticeable really. When I watched ESB for the first time I though he just aged, the same with ROTJ
He did look a bit different, mainly because his nose wasn't perfectly centred and symmetrical anymore. But I've seen people claim that they felt it like was an entirely different actor, which is quite exaggerated.
And because of what the other guy commenting said. He just aged aswell, it was three years between the movies and he was 28 or so by the time they filmed ESB
He is underrated. Hollywood wrote him off as a 'hero', but he's actually a serious character actor who when he takes on a role will go ALL the way with it.
That’s what people say about most things today, makes them feel like the ultimate fan who knows more than others. Films, music, sport, everyone’s underrated
100% underrated. Compare his career to Harrison Ford, man. The Joker thing is the big exception, but animation isn't 'Hollywood'. Even Carrie Fisher had a bigger career than him, with writing, and acting.
I was one of the kids whose question was asked - although it's not shown in this clip. I still have my Ask Aspel Badge and I bought a DVD of the programme from the Archives nearly two years ago and had it signed by Mark Hamill this year.
Mark Hamill is my childhood crush when I was just a 12 yr old closeted gaykid back in 1977 when I saw Star Wars: A New Hope. I still remember that year wishing him to be my boyfriend not realizing that it's impossible cause he's straight and he's like a decade older than me 😭 Seeing this really made me cry reminding me again of my gay crush fantasy of him back in 1977 that resulted to a huge heartbreak when I finally realized 6 years later that it's impossible for me and him to be together because of our big age gap. 😔 💔
"Mentally retarded children" LOL if that interview was done today they'd edit Luke Skywalker out of all Star Wars movies like he never existed in the first place
To be fair that term is still used medically even if you have an autistic/down syndrome child. It will still say developed mentally retarded on the pieces of paper even today in 2022. I remember my cousin showing me in 2015 or so
+starwarsrebel2006 The music and animation title screens of 70's stuff was creepy. Very bleak and cold. Watch the animated movie "Heavy Metal" which has a similar eerie feel and tone.
alex ojideagu Yeah, I've seen that movie, "Heavy Metal." I'm 48 so my childhood was in the 70's. Since I grew up with that kind of stuff I guess I was just used to it and didn't find it creepy.
Maybe it’s because there’s no many polite, calm and intelligent interviews now like there were back then. Back in the 70s there were no obnoxious audience members and interview/ actor was professional
Mark Hamill's awesome! He's so nice in interviews, but I keep wondering how he knows so much about Britain being an American - like how he know's what Michael's talking about when he mentions Coronation Street as if he watches it and how he appeared on Blue Peter a couple of times and said that he watches it all the time.
His acting experience before Star Wars included Shakespeare, which is very English and also requires considerable ability and understanding of what a role requires.
(SARCASM abt Mark downplaying his accident disfigurement & people wondering if Luke would be recast) I know yeah it was such a 'not a big deal thing' 'not obvious' Mark's accident and face nose damaged it was pure accident they wrote Luke getting attacked and his face slashed by a Snow Creature and in a Bacta tank and fake scars used
@@Blizofoz45 It is said that he shattered his left cheekbone, which is quite visible, hence the change. Somehow I don't think he'd go for a crooked nose, upper lip scar and shattered cheekbone if he wanted to reinvent himself. 🙄 He is still very handsome though!
Seriously, every time I see Dane DeHaan, I think he resembles Mark at this point in time...I know he knows it as he's said people have said it before (And it's hinted in "Chronicle" when Andrew is playing with a toy lightsaber) and both have been active in theater and played the hero of sci-fi movies ("Valerian", the French comic that accidentally predicted "Star Wars"...) and "Spider-Man" villains...
+Barry O'Donohoe No he is not! Like anyone he had surgery to repair the damage after the crash while in hospital. He was advised to have further plastic surgery, but did not!

It's a crime he is not as big a star that Harrison Ford has become.
+Writer Director No he isn't, Hamill has done mostly voiceovers he isn't a big Hollywood star like Ford.
Apologies about my grammar. I meant what you meant.

It’s called getting old and cynical. You know, going through shit!
He just gets old that's all. It happens to people..

He broke his nose in 77 after the first movie was made. That’s why he looked different in Empire.
