The entire video is off the charts. The vocals, the arrangement, and the visuals. The cinematography is entirely on a different level. The power of the visuals is incredible.
David is a producer so he was probably instrumental with the video. If you have not done so, watch the Conan Show performance video, it has something extra in it I think because he was backed by a 20-piece orchestra. Several things about the Conan performance; he was sick, the backstage crew came out to see what was going on, the audience gave a 10-minute standing ovation, and the performance was nominated for a Grammy.
the performance of this group shakes every cell of the body. I also grew up in the era of Simon and Garfunkel, but this band's performance is like a thunder storm, shaking body and soul. Not everyone can do it, but they did. The entire performance, masters of musical instruments and the incredible power of the singer's voice, power that shakes you to the core of your soul.
I cry so much listening to this song but not sad tears it's like I'm happy and excited for him to sing this great,or something, this isn't a song,IT'S A FEELING!!!
Many people prefer the live version on Conan but I prefer this one. And that is because of the video. To me the video is like another member of the band and it gives so much more depth and weight to the song. There's also an interview on RUclips that he did with loud wire where they just asked him questions about stuff that floating around about him on the internet. If you haven't listened to Pentatonix cover of Sound of Silence I highly recommend it. People usually describe the three as this, Simon and Garfunkel was a warning Disturbed is the anger in that we have not heeded the warning that we haven't listened and Pentatonix Falls right in the middle
I love this version the best. Could I suggest When I've Got You by Dimash for a great music video. It really is very cinematic. With your movie background you should really enjoy it. Such fun.
Glorious voice! From a 72 year old greatgrandmother. I remember the first version well. I fought against liking this version, but you can't not like it!! Listen with your eyes closed, it's epic!!
First time I heard this performance, (I am a 60 plus woman from Australia.... I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel) I was in tears. So powerful. So.... incredible ❤
It is going to be in the 2024 film Bonhoeffer - This song touches me like no other, his voice is stunning, the orchestration is sublime and the video says it all about humanities failure to communicate. Thank you Paul Simon a total genius poet!! ❤
I've watched a TON of reactions to this...and you are the only one I've seen even mention that acoustic bit near the end! (I always wait for somebody to comment on it, and you're the first. )😊
One. Billion. Views. Not surprised at all!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️He was so I’ll that night and still silenced the audience for the entire song! Then a five minute standing ovation after👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. Conan says it’s never been broken. My soul reacts viscerally to this song❤❤❤
I appreciate the respect you gave this, not talking all through it. Besides David's unbelievable voice , he is a wonderful human being. His band members are also good people.
Oh, and this song is already in a movie soundtrack. A very well-known (and at that time controversial) movie back in the day. "The Graduate" with Dustin Hoffman (1967). Simon & Garfunkel did the soundtrack to the movie.
EXACTLY!! the song is about how social media is destroying society, in my humble opinion. And then only music can save it and bring us together. Great reactions!

Each time I watch this video, the critic points out something I did not catch I have been watching for 3 days. I acustic guitar is somethiing others have pointed out but I didn't get it until this video. I am 75 and actually saw Simon and Garfunkle, in 1967 at MSU. The song is still even more beautiful 56 years later. Magic!
The build up is what gets me every time now! But yes I completely agree, those subtle changes of intensity in his facial movements...the eyes intensifying and then that explosion of Cinema sound!!! Gotta love it
It was about people not communicating with each other. At the end the instruments were going across in a boat to the people with the sheets of music notes on land. Beautiful ✌️
I have watched several videos of this song and every one of them has given me goosebumps on top of my goosebumps.. It has also made my eyes get leaky... I love Simon and Garfunkel, but this version by Disturbed has given this song more meaning...more feelings for me.. I am soon to be 65 years old ...I cant get enough of it.. Chilling..
Their production and acoustics on set on Conan Live add to an EXCEPTIONAL rendition of this song by David and his mates. Spoiler ... he had the flu and a high temperature, but he got through it SO WELL !!! ❤
Their interpretation of the song is epic! After originally watching it I watched many more videos by Disturbed and I’m a big fan now!) Another awesome artist with a video with well over 1billion views is Lost On You by LP Great reaction too!
As a child of the 60s, growing up near New York City, I have always loved this song. The "words of the prophets" really WERE written on the subway walls! Usually warnings along the lines of "Repent! Before it's too late." Not always readily noticeable amidst all the other crazy graffitti and gang tags, but definitely THERE in stark contrast. That is SSOOO New York City! This song first came out in 1964. The 60s was THE Counter Cultural Revolution. The decade that changed America forever, as we knew it. 200 years of a shared Christian/Judeo foundation shattered. The "Father Knows Best" generation vs "Sex, drugs, Rock n Roll!" Psychedelic drugs, "free love," Haight Ashbury and Woodstock and all that. JFK assassinated in 1963, Vietnam war protests, Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile crisis, threat of nuclear war, and by 1968, the death of Dr. Martin Luther King. King was the lone voice of UNITY, truth and brotherly love. And the one throw back to our previous shared Christian/Judeo foundation. Sadly, in many ways King's "Dream" died with him. So much rebellion, division, chaos and turmoil! And of course, in the early 60s, the Bible was removed from our schools. One of my earliest memories was .... Long ago, the day used to start the exact same way from coast to coast. Public school children across the entire country started the school day with a daily prayer. Then one day, the teacher informed us that we would be doing something different from now on. Instead of a daily prayer, we would observe a “moment of silence” instead. We could pray to ourselves. Or not. Whatever. Of course, to us children, this was confusing. I remember us shuffling our feet and kind of looking at one another. Well, THIS was awkward! All of a sudden, we were ALONE. Lost. The Shepard was no longer leading the flock. No more “E Pleuribus Unam.” No longer together as one family, under God. INDIVISABLE. Talk about the Sound of Silence! It was deafening. And oh, so sad. We were too young to understand this sadness and feeling of loss. But we knew that something profound had happened. We had lost something so very precious. It was THERE. And then it was gone. America as we knew it. My greatest sadness is that my children & grandchildren will NEVER know the America that I grew up in. All they will ever know is the *Sound of Silence.*
I liked Disturbed when I first heard their cover of "Land Of Confusion." Then on the radio I heard "Ten Thousand Fists." I liked it enough to buy an album, and I still love them. There's a story that at a party Paul Simon came up to Dave and told him that Sound of Silence was "his song now." Have you ever heard of the Acappella group, VoicePlay? They are the Theater Kids of the Acappella Trinity on RUclips, along with Home Free and Pentatonix. Voiceplay's bass, Geoff Castellucci, also does a cover of this song on his solo channel. I think you'd be blown away by both the group AND Geoff. I strongly recommend checking them out.💙
I'm a pretty hardcore Disturbed fan - so obviously I'm biased as all get out- but that aside I really enjoyed your take, not on the song, but the video (which to me is an art piece) - I know you're up to your ears in suggestions but if you want to run with Disturbed covers and feel like a little anime take a look at Land of Confusion
Check out David Draiman's interview with The Charismatic Voice (Elizabeth Zharoff). He is so articulate, intelligent, thoughtful.....can't help but like him. This cover has to be a Top5 cover ever!
Re-watched this reaction about 5 times now lol different family members and friends are just watching today so of course we were rolling when you started talking about your date night with your girlfriend 😂 we were all dying Jesse! I can't wait for more reactions ❤
Sounds of silence is beautiful by disturbed, you should check out their video of "Bad Man". In my opinion it is a cinematography work of art. The way all that movement and the many many scenes blend with the lyrics ... to me it's a work of art. Also check out the song "The light". The song is really good. The vid is good, but it's nothing like sounds of silence or Bad Man. Check the out. I'm 72 yrs old and people think it's weird that I like disturbed but... they're great!

Always nice to see a new video from you. Watched it straight away and liked it 😜 The nice thing is that your list is still full and this pleasure will come again and again in the near future.
This is so freaking amazing 👏. The beginning reminded me of a musical graveyard in silence. Then, the story begins. I was giggling like a little girl when I saw this reaction. Thank you Jesse, loved it ❤
In the series Blacklist, they actually used this cover, and how it was used + banking on the emotional investment a viewer has put into the show up to that point was brilliant IMO. 2000's feel of a generic crime American TV show aside, Its a decent binge if your itching for some shows with an emphasis on conspiracy theories.
I said that when I first heard it I hope you read my comment I heard it about 3 months ago I still hear it I still listen to it I said he should make a movie or video about it a movie would be the best he is the best singer I've ever heard in my life I love him I cherish him the voice I've never heard anybody sing this song like that even the original artist don't make it sound like this this is the best I've ever heard in my life and then he sells a part of the cancer will I have cancer that's what made me listen to it
The best way to dissect the words, is to go back to the album this song first came out on in 1964. It's called "Wednesday Morning 3 AM." It's a Gospel/Folk album, to get the context of the song. It is one of the darkest, saddest, most timeless songs ever written. If you listen to "Bleeker Street" and "Sounds of Silence," you will see that the same message of the inability to communicate, the inability to connect on a deeper, emotional level in both of them. Bleeker Street is kind of the prelude to Sound of Silence. But at the end of Bleeker Street, there is still hope. At the end of Sound of Silence, there is no hope. It's JUDGEMENT DAY. The writing is on the wall. If you don't understand the Biblical references, you will never fully understand this song. It's timeless, it really depicts the human condition that has existed from the dawn of man. "Hear my words that I might teach you, take my arms that I might reach you ..." "Jerusalem, O Jerusalem! How I have longed to gather your children into my arms as a mother hen gathers her chicks. But you would not." And Jesus wept. "And the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made!" People bowing to the Golden Calf of their own making. False idols. And the saying "The writing is on the wall" comes from the Biblical book of Daniel. "The words that it was forming .... the words of the prophets written on the subway walls ..." What did the words that were supernaturally forming on the wall tell the king? "You have been JUDGED and found wanting. Your kingdom is taken from you." And of course, by the next morning the king was dead and Babylon had fallen. How often is New York City likened to a modern-day Babylon? Time to WAKE UP people. History never lies. And repeats itself over and over and over ....
Same here! This is one of my go-to tracks when I'm going hiking/fishing... Or going on a night drive. This song just hits different than most and I love it!
He did this song to prove to all the haters that he can actually sing. I'm a metal head through and through, it's not for everyone but their voices speak to us in ways that your favorite music does.
Why would he have to prove he can sing? He did other more mellow songs like "Hold onto the Memories" and a "Reason to Fight." Clearly he's mad talented and has a beautiful voice. But I will say this, the Sound of Silence really brings out all aspects of his voice. His just CRAZY control! The transitions! And he goes from bass, to baritone, to tenor and even gets close to falsetto on a couple of words. To be able to jump up a complete octave between verses so naturally and effortlessly! This song challenges and highlights so many aspects of David's amazing voice. But even more important, it shows David's ability to emotionally connect. Not only with the song, but with his audience. He really cares. And that cannot be taught. It's just HIM. That's what I love about David Draiman the most.
The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel is sad resignation. A plea. The Sound of Silence by Disturbed is Dammit, LISTEN! *** The Warning *** "And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made." ~ Paul Simon "And the people bowed and prayed, to the golden calf they made." ~ Old Testament
The entire video is off the charts. The vocals, the arrangement, and the visuals. The cinematography is entirely on a different level. The power of the visuals is incredible.

Thank you Simon and Garfunkel for birthing the Sound of Silence.Kudos to Disturbed for bringing it life!
Rumor has it that after Paul Simon heard this version, he told David it was his song now.
I was honestly already thinking that the moment I first heard the song! They truly made it their own 🎬

Thank you for watching along 😊 I've got more Disturbed reactions coming up!
Always nice to see a new video from you. Watched it straight away and liked it 😜 The nice thing is that your list is still full and this pleasure will come again and again in the near future.
Thank you! As always I appreciate you tuning in 🎬
Yep no words, what a voice. Love your reaction! Luv from Australia ❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️
Thank you for watching ☺️
Much love from Texas
Now you definitely need to watch and listen to 'the sounds of starbucks' just for some fun😂
"the sounds of Starbucks"? 😂 What?
One of the best remakes ever! 😎
I am probably 1 quarter of the 1 billion views of this video. And probably not through, with watching or listening yet! 😂❤❤❤
Thanks!
Thank you!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 for Jesse’s intros
Thank you 😊
❤Loved your reaction!
This is so freaking amazing 👏. The beginning reminded me of a musical graveyard in silence. Then, the story begins. I was giggling like a little girl when I saw this reaction. Thank you Jesse, loved it ❤
Musical Graveyard! I like that idea 🎬
Thank you again for recommending 🙌
Of course the video starts with the sound of silence.
i LOVE Disturbed and this song but was also impressed by you SUB!! looking forward to seeing more videos
I love your entros. No other reactors can do this. You are awesome
TE REVIENTA Y TE TRANSFORMA, REMUEVE LA CONCIENCIA HUMANA... A UN MUNDO MEJOR
Omg i cant stop watching every day ❤
a very powerful song a little different than the original but still from the first note you get goose bumps
Shush….😂 it’s too beautiful to interrupt
😅
Es ist zum Niederknien! Danke, David!
I said that when I first heard it I hope you read my comment I heard it about 3 months ago I still hear it I still listen to it I said he should make a movie or video about it a movie would be the best he is the best singer I've ever heard in my life I love him I cherish him the voice I've never heard anybody sing this song like that even the original artist don't make it sound like this this is the best I've ever heard in my life and then he sells a part of the cancer will I have cancer that's what made me listen to it
I would listen 4 or 5 more times. I listen to this at least once a day.
Disrurbs videos are always a treat visually
Nice reaction to an absolutely amazing song. I can recommend Heilung video Anoana or Norupo for great cinematics as well. 😂
"Hear my words that I might teach you, take my arms that I might reach you ..."
"Jerusalem, O Jerusalem!
"The words that it was forming .... the words of the prophets written on the subway walls ..."
What did the words that were supernaturally forming on the wall tell the king? "You have been JUDGED and found wanting. Your kingdom is taken from you."
And of course, by the next morning the king was dead and Babylon had fallen.
How often is New York City likened to a modern-day Babylon?
Time to WAKE UP people. History never lies. And repeats itself over and over and over ....
😂 Used in the movie The Graduate. 🤘🖤 sorry, couldn't resist.
So good
The Blacklist - Season 5 Epsiode 8 "Tom's Death" is done to Disturbed - The Sound of Silence
Thank you for a reaction which is unique.
Thank you for watching! ☺️
Omg disturbed version has been my favorite song since 2015
Dude. Sabaton "Bismark" and "Christmas Truce". Both are cinematic masterpieces!
Dude, we have watched it at least 40 or more times, can't get enough of this song. Wife loves it and she is 69.
Same here! This is one of my go-to tracks when I'm going hiking/fishing... Or going on a night drive. This song just hits different than most and I love it!
There's a Sons of Anarchy tribute video using this song. That's where I heard this for the first time. It was so fitting.
I feel ya, bro.
Nice reaction.
I heard the song but i think the video brings it to life .
Absolutely agreed! There is so much soul in this reimagined version.
That 70s guy with the Disturbed voice over 🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂
I just keep coming back to this….. sound of silence reborn
The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel is sad resignation. A plea.
The Sound of Silence by Disturbed is Dammit, LISTEN!
