I was raised with Simon and Garfunkel.. But I have kids that love the alternative music. I'm 67 years old and I'll tell you. The 1st time I heard Disturb do this, I had tears running down my face. I have listen to their other CD's so I knew what they were. And I really like them. But this took them to a whole new level. I glad you played this for yourself.. It is AMAZING!!
yep. me too. I liked S&G's version but i never really got it. With this, it just blew me away. And now I get what I think Paul Simon was after, and it's so much more exciting. Yep, tears every time. (78)
The first time I listened to this cover I cried I am 79 years old I felt so sad for humanity we have got so much so wrong. The passion this man found within himself to sing like this touched my soul.

Does anyone else listen to this every time they see it on RUclips. I’m a 69 yr old man and not ashamed that I do and every time it brings tears to my eyes.. like the original band said, disturbed owns this song now.
I must hear this song every day to get my day going. Every time I watch it , it’s like getting a punch of concentrated emotions….punched in the guts. Powerful and a genius cover. I’m so happy I found it.
David’s voice is phenomenal. I’m 80 years old and I can’t stop listening to this song! With this rendition the truth is delivered in a most poignant way! The message is Clear. We need to listen, change and be open and honest with our hearts and souls. God Bless YOU David. THANK YOU FOR THIS! ❤🎉😊
The emotions are vast in this version. Suffering from depression from losing 3 friends to mental illness, this song releases all the torment ....it's helping me to recover 😊. Thanks.
It helps me release all the sufferings due to the same... my dear husband passed away... mental illness as well. I cry out with Disturbed along with the man.
If you get a chance, see them live. They are doing a US tour this year to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Their performance is one of the most awesome things I've ever seen. Practically a religious experience. They do a whole section of their set that includes this, an original and amazing song of theirs called "The Light" (YOU *MUST* LISTEN TO THIS), and David then makes a personal connection with the audience that is so raw and pure that I ended up in a long, sobbing embrace with a massive, shirtless, sweaty, tattoo-covered Samoan who could have launched me into orbit without much effort. It was like that all over the venue. 35000 rough looking metal heads with tears in their eyes, existing almost as one entity. I cannot possibly recommend it enough. I swear David was sent by God himself to heal people and lessen their burdens.
I'm 74 and was amazed the first time I heard it. I can get enough of this song. It's so profound, the meaning of the song is amazing. We lack true compassion and communication. My feeling of the meaning the neon god they made makes me think of how kids and even adults are so involved in phones and computers, etc; that no one communicates with each other. I feel that it is ruining our kids, they just sit around on their gadgets. Unlike when we were children, we were outside a lot, creating our own fun. Obesity in our children is outrageous. It's sad to see it. It's like so many of the children are like zombies, with no social skills or comunication.
@@christinestanton5531I’m 62 with adult sons in their early 20’s. My oldest didn’t talk to me for almost a year while we lived in the same house. I could only communicate by sending him messages on his phone. We now talk almost daily. He phones me in his way home, sometimes a few times if he has to stop somewhere. Because he lives an hour away, he knows that I worry that he gets home. This song means so many different things to different people. To Disturbed people have said it’s about music. To others it’s about mental health. Part of that I agree but others is how so many people use their phones, computers, tablets to anonymously be foul. Write nasty things (Silent words, spoken but not heard) and get away with it. At least with ‘the Karen’s’ out in the open, you can face your nemesis and tell them off or walk away. But the trolls get away with it. I heard David Draiman sing this a few years ago, probably on the radio or maybe in a business. I only saw the video on Sunday and I’ve listened and cried every time. I wish my parents were still alive to hear this version. I hope they would approve.
Thank God❤. I thought I was alone in that feeling. Every time I hear it. It gives me goosebumps and tears❤. EVERY SINGLE TIME! It pierces my soul!!! I believe that song was waiting for David❤❤❤
I never heard of Disturbed but was scrolling threw RUclips and saw the title of the video, I'm 70 so I know this song well, let me tell you, by the end of Disturbs version I was hooked, I watch this video quite often and have the song on my phone, I also went back and listened to Simon and Garfunkels original version and ohmy what a difference, Disturbed knew what they were doing with this rendition l, Bravo!! ❤
My uncle is a grammy award winning producer & paul Simon is my cousins godfather. So believe me when I say, this rendition is 100% Paul Simon approved! He was floored
Ty. Rumors are flying. Ty for sharing that. I had heard David sent a copy to Paul before he released. So much respect from Metal head! Actually respect for both group that released this
Listened to this hundreds of times. I am a 70 year old woman and It affects me every time. Love the power of this man's voice. I was only 15 when I first heard the original but wow, this version is absolutely the best
Listening to disturb singing this is completely what we heard from Simon and Garfunkel...we knew ....we understood their message....I love this version also...but it's sad ...it's an urgent appeal to humanity ❤
My favourite interpretation is that the original version by Simon & Garfunkel is a warning, while the Disturbed version is a bitter lament that the original warning went unheeded. It's amazing how the same lyrics can take on such different meanings to people based entirely on how they're performed.
@@PatR2243 Yeah, but he's not just plain out "screaming". He's actually singing with anger in the voice. For those who aren't aware, he actually took Opera Lessons to train his voice and vocal chords just so that he wouldn't ruin them. He's a world class musician! And his voice is something else.
Like a million things man has created other men have improved. I'll allways credit Simon and Garfunkel for the music without the original this version couldn't exist but Disturbed version is the greatest testament to the original. In a world where everything is copywrited and protected were shooting ourselves in the foot.
The first time I heard it I listened to it all night! I just couldn’t stop, now I don’t dare start to listen at ight for fear I’ll do that again! I am 84, an old lady needs her rest. 😉
This is a fantastic rendition of this song. I'm a 70 yr old Granma and grew up with the original. I thought it could not been done better. I much prefer this
It is absolutely worth mentioning that this is _not_ typical of Disturbed. They really went out on a limb, stretched their own style to places it had never been before, and it worked. Because they're so talented, the original song's lyrics and composition are so incredible, and they spent so much effort on it, it worked. I think David (the singer) said that this song took him like 3 hours in the recording booth to get right, trying different ways to sing each and every verse, not sure which ones would work. When the producer showed David the final mix, he said he was terrified that David didn't like it because there was complete silence coming from where David was standing behind him--but when he turned around he saw that David had just a couple tears running down his face because it was so beautiful, and he hadn't fully comprehended that beauty himself when he'd sang it earlier in the booth.
@@carolmayhardie I really liked Uninvited Guest! I do have all their albums, because apparently I'm a weirdo who still buys albums instead of just adding the singles to a Spotify playlist. There's also a slower song entitled _Don't Tell Me_ on their latest album, _Divisive,_ from November of last year.
In hindsight, it was always there, just under the surface. As early as the "Believe" album. He has classical training as a cantor, and his melodic breadth could be readily heard in songs like "Remember" and, most notably, "Darkness." Both of those have comparably less harsh vocals than a lot of their more popular songs. Listen to both of those back to back, and suddenly "The Sound of Silence" seems like an obvious next step.
I always Listen to Music from the 70's and 80's and 90's but always Listen to Disturbed and when this Song comes on I Cried now I'm 52 year's old I still listen to this Music
the performance of this group shakes every cell of the body. I also grew up in the era of Simon and Garfunkel, but this band's performance is like a thunder storm, shaking body and soul. Not everyone can do it, but they did. The entire performance, masters of musical instruments and the incredible power of the singer's voice, power that shakes you to the core of your soul.
I am gobsmacked every time I hear that version. David, the lead singer for Disturbed, is a classically trained singer, so not only can he scream music, he can sing it with all the pathos this song needs. Check out the live version from when they were on Jimmy Kimmel. It is also very powerful. I also read that Paul Simon put this video on his webpage, which he never has done before. He called David and told him that the song belonged to him. I get goosebumps every time.
I’m a 75 years young musician with constant hope for for a reawakening of meaningful lyrics perfectly aligned with soul searching voice and orchestration. I’m grateful to the universe when all falls into place and I can play and listen to a creation that even Paul friggin Simon admits is now David and Disturbs !
His voice is made for this song. Paul Simon praised him for this interpretation. David's voice really make you REALLY hear the lyrics and actually LISTEN. Thank you for reacting to this!
A cover that is beyond great, Sarah Bereilles cover of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is another that has to be mentioned, Elton John gave her high praise for her version. ruclips.net/video/Ozd2ja7mAgM/видео.html
David was trained as a cantor, and has great control over his voice, so that he can do that heavy metal growl without damaging his vocal cords. And this is a brilliant rendition of a great song.
I came across this song one night after my husband of 50 yrs passed away. I played it so much whenever i couldnt take another step, he made me feel like his arms were wrapped around me and i wasnt afraid to try to face another day. I shiver each time i here his voice!
Beautiful to hear his voice provided comfort ❤️ So sorry for your loss, dear. May the comfort of your reunion with your husband under the God of your understanding provide comfort.
I was in College in Detroit in 64, went to Nam in 66 for 2 tours. Came back to live in Monterey, CA. Saw Monterey Pop, Janis Joplin, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, on and on, all live. Later Heavy Metal, but this song is my favorite of all time. Just listen to it, Really Listen. Awesome.
We live in a time where people bow over the neon god (cell phone) so they can talk without speaking (constant texting.) The song was prophetic. Disturbed's version makes you realize that.
Am I i the only person hearing this that feels the urge to get out of bed and go look for people to talk to. To listen too. To share encouragement with. I don’t think I’ve ever hear a song with a stronger message.
Same for me. I love watching the reactions and never get tired of hearing it. I get goosbumps and tears every time. I may have gotten goosebumps when S & G sang it, but did not get the meaning of the words like I do when David Draiman ... I can't say "sings it" it is much more than singing or even preforming.... ❤❤
All I can say is the first time I listened to this,I am hooked for life. I love David and his voice is so awesome. He did a great job on this song....all his songs
David ROCKED this song... The first time I heard it every hair on my arms were up and I was mezmorized by the end of the song. Without a shadow of a doubt THE VERY BEST MAKEOVER OF A SONG IN HISTORY! Never before have I seen so much emotion in a song... And if you like the song go hear him in concert.... worth every penny that ticket cost you.... even if just for this song. He is a MUSICAL GENIUS. This is without a doubt my very favorite song ever..... and I was a DJ for 18 years.
Paul Simon was totally impressed, posted it on his media page, said the song was now David's. David brought out the true feelings that Paul Simon meant when writing it. His words. I only heard this about 6 weeks ago, now a total fan of the band, and I'm a 70 y o grandma. They have so many amazing songs...The Light, A Reason to Fight, but even the heavy metal songs are fabulous.
@@Boulevard1800gonna have to respectfully disagree. Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt originally by Trent Reznor Nine Inch Nails is far and away the best cover ever.
Isn’t it just the most amazing performance? David Draiman’s voice is absolute perfection. It is so clear, sacred at moments, and powerful to the core. This song as he sings it engulfs my entire being. It strikes a chord in the deepest parts of my soul.
Pure talent. The danger of a song being iconic is that the words are so familiar that we forget their meanings, unless someone brilliant presents it to us in a new way. So glad you covered Disturbed's version. Thanks Nick.
Yeah, especially on the "Silence like a cancer grows." line and "The people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made." David puts so much emotion into it that it recontexualizes the whole song...especially with that epic instrumental backing...
Thank you for doing this video. I've watched a lot of these videos around Disturbed's version of this fantastic song. I grew up with this original playing on the radio, so I'm old. Lol I've never been a metal fan, until this song my adult kids played for me a year or so ago. I've since read an article where David supposedly said this version is his answer to the warning in the original song we all ignored. Think about it. It makes perfect sense that the same song could have such different meanings all in the way it's presented to the audience. I love both versions and am now a big Disturbed fan.
I'm 68 and though I always loved the Simon and Garfunkel original version when I first heard Disturbed sing it I swear it moved me more than any song I've ever heard. I'm alone in this world so this song strikes a chord with me.
"Holy Shit" is the correct, perfect, appropriate, response to this song the entire way through. I have listened to this version more than the original at this point (and I'm an old). It NEVER fails to hit me and make me feel. Physically, emotionally, mentally. It is timeless. David Draiman is a generational talent. His resonance, range, and pure magic hits every single nerve in me. I love it so much.
Over 50 here, and long-time Simon and Garrfunkel fan... The first time I heard this I was driving home from work, and literally became lightheaded enough from the chills it gave me that I had to pull off the side of the highway. Then I got home and listened to it non-stop for the next 8 hours or so. THIS is one of the examples I pull out whenever someone insists the original version of any song is always better.
I read that Paul Simon reached out to him and told him he was very impressed with his version and even directed people to it on his social media accounts.
I will be 80 in October and have fallen down the Disturbed well. I have enjoyed most kinds of music over the years including metal, but kind of got away from catching the new stuff...this cover brought me to Disturbed and it has been love at first listen. I'll be attending my first rock concert to celebrate becoming an octogenarian.
After Disturbed blew my mind with this version of Sound of Silence, my mind was blown AGAIN when I discovered that Paul Simon, who I imagine you know Wrote this song, listened to the live Conan version, then Emailed Disturbed and told them that, in short, this song is theirs now. That's how much HE loves their take on his song.
That actually did not happen, although Simon approved of their version. You are thinking of Trent Reznor's reaction after seeing Johnny Cash's video for "Hurt"
@@hectorsmommy1717It actually did happen, but what Paul Simon actually said is that he put their version on his playlist and that he wanted to sing the song more like David Draiman did, but he was told no by the record company because he was a folk singer. He never said that it was now Disturbeds song
The first time I heard him it was undiscribable so awesome he does another version and it goes a little faster and man that was the first one I heard and just absolutely fabulous. Amazing dude and the singing. 🤭😮 🎹🎹🎹 🤭🤭 🙉🙉🙊🙊
Goose bumps...every time. I always say Paul wrote this as a warning and David delivers the rebuke for not listening to the warning. David's lifelong vocal training really shines here.
@@cosette999 Yeah, the late 70's and 80's "ME" generation really did a number on my generation. There still a lot of us that still believe in equality for all, support for the vulnerable members of society, support for the things that upraise humanity (the arts, the environment, education). It's just our voices aren't loud enough anymore to rise above those who don't.
O.M.G. I’ve never been more moved by a remake of a song more than this. Disturbed CRUSHED it completely. His voice, the buildup, the peak…. Full body goosebumps. Their version is HAUNTINGLY perfect. ❤❤❤
Wow, Disturbed really captured the Essence of this song, it grabbed my heart, whereas the original version, did not have the same reaction. The power of his voice" The Neon God they Made" that was Supernatural, I felt " The Creator of the Universe" blast through his Voice, Amazing!
What voice he has, gives me goosebumps. I can’t stop listening to it, it’s so moving. This is the best I’ve heard, fantastic. Thank you Nick, great review, you explain it just like I would. 🎉😊.
This may be a bit controversial, but I think this version might actually be better than the original. So powerful. Starts softs and builds to an incredible crescendo Then back to soft at the end. Pure genius, absolute perfection! Loved watching your reaction!
It made me cry when I fist heard this. His voice, the words, are impeccably moving. It was so powerful. Simon & Garfunkel's song was a warning we didn't heed. Disturbed's beautiful rendering is a condemnation of our blithe ignorance of what we could become. It is what we are now. There is too much technology that separates us.
I graduated from high school in 1964, the year Simon and Garfunkel wrote and produced this song. It was my very favorite in 1964, and it is still my favorite today. I LOVE this version!
I was a teenager in the 60's when S and G released this song. I loved it,and then a few years ago,my brother sent me this version..bloody hell!! I cried!! It is now the song I play over and over in my car,as I sing loudly and badly. This song was written for HIS voice, love it.
David Draiman has an amazing voice, he really puts passion into the song, they also did Land of Confusion by Genesism the song Sound of Silence was written by Paul Simon on his own
I'll be 72 in 1 month. I've been listening to this amazing song since S&G recorded it in the '60's. I've heard many great covers of it,including Puddles Pity Party. Another great voice! But I've NEVER heard a version that brings me to tears, when I hear it,until I listen to Disturbed's version! His voice,it brings so much depth & emotion to it! I can't imagine another's voice, ever affecting me the way David's does!
This is the best and the most beautiful version of Sound of Silence I have ever heard. David and Disturbed put their heart and soul into this version. I get extremely emotional when l hear it. I can't imagine anyone else but David singing it. He has the perfect voice. God bless Disturbed.
I was hesitant to hear this version until recently thinking nothing can compare with the original. Man was I wrong. This breathes new profound meaning in today's society.
I love this song in general both the original as well as Disturbed's version. There is however another. You might want to check out Pentatonix's version of this song, it's equally as impressive.
@@josequintana9617 You're welcome, it's definitely worth checking out! Their version may not be as impactful as Disturbed's yet the quality of their voice and performance is just as good. The historical, emotional and personal vibe of the song coming from the original artists Simon & Garfunkel is a hard song for another band to cover while doing the song justice and so far Disturbed has owned it, and Pentatonix is a worthy contender.
Nothing like it. I'm a 78 yr old Grammy. Keep repeating the song. Incredible. Love the grit. It's the background on a lot of military online short videos. Especially the ones with the dogs.
Absolutely No one can Beat David Draiman He was the First to do this and I’ve Heard others But David is the N01 of this Song no one will Ever Forget this Song it was Amazing ❤️❤️❤️👍
This guy is not just another 'First Time Hearing/Seeing' You Tuber who tries to give a convincing talk about their feelings on what they are showing. You can actually see his reaction to this song not only on his face but by the fact the hair raised on his arms while he was listening. This is a channel I'll watch again.
@@nickforell1 I have seen it said that people describe Simon and Garfunkel's version as the warning and this version as the anger that the warning was ignored. Glad I got to watch you react to it now I'm going to watch your reaction to the live version and then the Pentatonix version after that.
Layers upon layers of chills and goosebumps in this version. The first few times I listened to it, I caught myself forgetting to breathe. Best cover ever? Quite possible.
It's so powerful! The first time I heard it I had to pull the car over because I was crying. Then I hit replay about 9 times in a row. And now I'm a weirdo who stalks every reaction video, because I love sharing their moment of discovery as if it was my first. Disturbed doesn't have more than a few songs in this style, they're generally pretty heavy. Their videos are always beautifully produced and artistic. More in this vein would be: Hold Onto Memories; The Light; A Reason To Fight; If I Ever Lose My Faith In You (cover of Sting's song). But David's vocals are glorious even under the distortion and you can usually understand most of the words. Heavier music to check out first ... one of my favorites is "Are You Ready?" Or one of their newer ones, "Divisive." A fairly undiscovered gem on their newest album is a duet with Ann Wilson from Heart. The goddess of rock is still slaying it in her early 70s. Actually ... you liked the build up in this song, so you might enjoy Heart doing a tribute to Led Zeppelin at the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors - "Stairway To Heaven." With their original late drummer's son playing drums as a surprise. Sorry, I took a path off into the weeds, but something to think about!
Until I heard this version I would have never given metal music a chance, I'm 66 and now love all of their music....favorites are 'Stricken', 'Stupify' and 'Hold on to Memories'. Hope you'll cover more Disturbed....great reaction!
I'm 60, have been a hard rock fan for years but Disturbed is on a whole different level! My favorite is Hold On To Memories. I want it played at my funeral. They have a true message.
When i first heard Disturbed Sound of Silence i could not believe i could love this song more than the original , i was so wrong best cover ever ! ❤❤❤ Peace everyone
I was very young when this song originally came out yet somehow I remember it. David does this song so much justice. His amazing voice puts such feeling into each verse. Just amazing.
I grew up with the original of this song in the 60s & loved it then, but this, this takes it to another level entirely & even Paul Simon said its the best he's ever heard & boy is he right. Davids voice is incedible, he could sing anything from heavy metal to opera & do a fantastic job. This is a joy to listen to no matter what kind of music you like.😂😊
I've been a Disturbed fan for a long time, but even I was a bit apprehensive when they announced this cover. The first time I heard it (no video), I just melted into it. I thought, "this is what this song was always meant to be".
I just heard this version for the first time on 2/1/25 and then your reaction video came up. I had to subscribe to your channel because your reaction was the best from the others I saw. You didn't stop it too much and I love the cussing. I was only familiar with Simon and Garfunkel and Pantatonix versions. I was in the car when I heard this version and I was screaming like a fool while my husband drove. I had goosebumps and then tears. I'll go binge watch some more of your videos.

Who wouldn't be? But I'm delighted that this rendition got Paul Simon's blessing.
WOW! What an honor!!!❤ I took love Simon and Garfunkel but this cover is amazing
As the warnings continue for the sleeping
Ty. Rumors are flying. Ty for sharing that. I had heard David sent a copy to Paul before he released. So much respect from Metal head! Actually respect for both group that released this
This was a compliment of the highest order to Simon
Listened to this hundreds of times. I am a 70 year old woman and It affects me every time. Love the power of this man's voice. I was only 15 when I first heard the original but wow, this version is absolutely the best
I'm 75 and I couldn't agree more. I, of course, loved the original but this is absolutely incredible!
Listening to disturb singing this is completely what we heard from Simon and Garfunkel...we knew ....we understood their message....I love this version also...but it's sad ...it's an urgent appeal to humanity ❤
I'm 75 and like you have watched this 100's of times, crying every single time
I'm 75 and agree with you 100%! Makes me cry everytime
Man this man can sing that song
My favourite interpretation is that the original version by Simon & Garfunkel is a warning, while the Disturbed version is a bitter lament that the original warning went unheeded.
It's amazing how the same lyrics can take on such different meanings to people based entirely on how they're performed.
Love that interpretation
Their original video (which this is NOT) was supposed to have been described by Paul Simon as The rage that the warning was not heeded.
And there's the 3rd version by Jonathan Young, which takes things even further
@@PavelBarbanegra Oh yeah, Jonathan can express rage like very few are capable of.
Paul Simon said that Disturbed owns this song now and I’ve seen it live and it gives you goosebumps every time.
That's nice. It's good to see artists that understand and support other artists.
Like a million things man has created other men have improved. I'll allways credit Simon and Garfunkel for the music without the original this version couldn't exist but Disturbed version is the greatest testament to the original. In a world where everything is copywrited and protected were shooting ourselves in the foot.
I am 80 and cried when I heard it first - at night I listen to it before going to bed - all I can say is his voice is phenomenal ❤
I much prefer this
The live on Conan version is even better. I consider it one of the best live music performances of all time.
Oh, didn't realize there were two! Need to check that out
@@nickforell1 Definitely, it's breathtaking. And Dave was very sick that day!
@@nickforell1💯live on conan. He did it when he was sick as a dog too
agree :)
❤
Recently they've broken the usual in Evolution. There are some great slow songs inside. I particularly like "Already Gone "
@@carolmayhardie I really liked Uninvited Guest! I do have all their albums, because apparently I'm a weirdo who still buys albums instead of just adding the singles to a Spotify playlist. There's also a slower song entitled _Don't Tell Me_ on their latest album, _Divisive,_ from November of last year.
just beautiful!!
Classy Paul move
The live version was on Conan...
@ exactly!
I'm 62 years old. I heard the original by Simon & Garfunkel a million times growing up. This version never fails to reduce me to tears.
Me too!
The first time I heard this version it left me an emotional wreck. David Drayman's voice is beyond amazing!
I’m a “ Reardon” too 👍💕
Wär toll, wenn das dumme Gesicht des Moderators nicht da wär!!
Sorry to hear about your loss. May I suggest to listen to Disturbed's "Hold on to Memories" and "A Reason to fight"? God bless you.
😢🙏❤
❤🥰😘
Beautiful to hear his voice provided comfort ❤️ So sorry for your loss, dear. May the comfort of your reunion with your husband under the God of your understanding provide comfort.
I was in College in Detroit in 64, went to Nam in 66 for 2 tours. Came back to live in Monterey, CA. Saw Monterey Pop, Janis Joplin, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, on and on, all live. Later Heavy Metal, but this song is my favorite of all time. Just listen to it, Really Listen. Awesome.
They captured the MESSAGE SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL.
Not better just different.
We live in a time where people bow over the neon god (cell phone) so they can talk without speaking (constant texting.) The song was prophetic. Disturbed's version makes you realize that.
Amen! People don't talk any more but on their phones!
The neon god in Paul Simon's version is the television.
True, true true. Damn what voice
Am I i the only person hearing this that feels the urge to get out of bed and go look for people to talk to. To listen too. To share encouragement with. I don’t think I’ve ever hear a song with a stronger message.
I have total different take on this song and yes it’s political
I love watching people experience this gift of a performance. I get goosebumps every single time. ❤
Me too.
Same here on the goosebumps
Same for me. I love watching the reactions and never get tired of hearing it. I get goosbumps and tears every time. I may have gotten goosebumps when S & G sang it, but did not get the meaning of the words like I do when David Draiman ... I can't say "sings it" it is much more than singing or even preforming.... ❤❤
@@jaxinevolner8003I think, given the depths of David's expressive passion here, emoting would be an appropriate and accurate fit. 😉
100 agree❤
Paul Simon was totally impressed, posted it on his media page, said the song was now David's. David brought out the true feelings that Paul Simon meant when writing it. His words. I only heard this about 6 weeks ago, now a total fan of the band, and I'm a 70 y o grandma. They have so many amazing songs...The Light, A Reason to Fight, but even the heavy metal songs are fabulous.
Right?!?! This is one of the most amazing versions of songs I’ve ever heard. Goosebumps and tears every time
I’m so so impressed
most covers of this song stops here! but there are one cover that is almost as good.. that will be pudles the clown.. he sings it with pasion!
Henk Poort on Beste Zangers does it better
@@Boulevard1800gonna have to respectfully disagree. Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt originally by Trent Reznor Nine Inch Nails is far and away the best cover ever.
I love Paul Simon, especially for acknowledging that the Disturbed version is superior.
This is truly my favorite version of this song...Disturbed did an amazing job on this song.
Best version EVER is Distubed's live version with the sublime Myles Kennedy.
Yes mama, it’s a prime example of nodding along with the music and not interpreting the lyrics. I had done that my whole life with this song!
I love both versions and am now a big Disturbed fan.
now you need to listen to Pentatonix doing this song
Very relevant point. Once we hear a song over & over like you say , sometimes the meaning dissolves. My favourite cover hands down 🔥
I'm 61 and I absolutely love this version. It's incredible, really!!
Best reaction ever! I too had chills all over the entire song!
Phenomenal magical voice!
I'm 68 and though I always loved the Simon and Garfunkel original version when I first heard Disturbed sing it I swear it moved me more than any song I've ever heard. I'm alone in this world so this song strikes a chord with me.
This song makes me cry it says everything about what’s going on in my world today.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I agree with ALL you say. (another "old" person here)
Over 50 here, and long-time Simon and Garrfunkel fan...
Yep
I will be 80 in October and have fallen down the Disturbed well. I have enjoyed most kinds of music over the years including metal, but kind of got away from catching the new stuff...this cover brought me to Disturbed and it has been love at first listen. I'll be attending my first rock concert to celebrate becoming an octogenarian.
Very emotional rendering of this song. His voice is magnetizing!
Today, on things that never happened.
@@hectorsmommy1717It actually did happen, but what Paul Simon actually said is that he put their version on his playlist and that he wanted to sing the song more like David Draiman did, but he was told no by the record company because he was a folk singer.
He never said that it was now Disturbeds song
😢 Wow!
he did not said that man.
Goosebumps every time
The first time I heard him it was undiscribable so awesome he does another version and it goes a little faster and man that was the first one I heard and just absolutely fabulous.
Spot on.
It’s ironic that the side that warned about the silence is now the one that demands it.
@@cosette999 ???
@@cosette999 Yeah, the late 70's and 80's "ME" generation really did a number on my generation. There still a lot of us that still believe in equality for all, support for the vulnerable members of society, support for the things that upraise humanity (the arts, the environment, education). It's just our voices aren't loud enough anymore to rise above those who don't.
Yeah, i've seen this same post by others on the multitude of reaction videos out there. Nice try though.
Right
I’ve seen and heard this cover a 100 times or more and I get teary eyed every single time. Beautiful, powerful voice .
Could be the best cover ever in my humble opinion. 😢
Yes, to me the original is like cotton candy, no substance. This version, you hear and feel the words.
didnt Simon of Simon & Garfunkel not say it was better than theirs?
I agree! This is the best cover ever done! So much better than the original. Even Paul Simon loved it!
I totally agree best cover I’ve ever heard n I love Simon n Garfunkel this old song sounds so fresh with the rock voice side to it well done disturbed
@@weybye91Paul Simon definitely did not say it was better.
So true ❤❤❤
My reaction was like yours...goosebumps, tears, complete resonance with the interpretation, message and delivery of the song. A spiritual experience
Hauntingly Beautiful. Tears and chills. Your reactions and expressions mimic mine exactly at the same words…. So moving!!
The lead singer is a former Cantor in a Synagogue. That’s why his voice hits deep into your heart. (IMO)
Best To Watch the Entire VIDEO Created by @DisTurbed ~Sound of Silence~ ❤
David Draiman has an amazing voice, he really puts passion into the song, they also did Land of Confusion by Genesism the song Sound of Silence was written by Paul Simon on his own
I'm 76 years old, and every time I hear this version of the song, I get emotional. It is very powerful. A former drummer.
It really is a magnificent reimagining of the song. The video visuals are superb, but David Dremman's voice - never fails to move me
David Draiman......
The conan live version is one of the best versions of any song I've ever heard. It is quickly becoming one of my favorites of all time.
It's wa a great and he was sick during that performance.
If you want to get a real appreciation for how strong his voice is watch the Live version on the Conan show. Great job. Keep it up
Breathtaking
Aw man you got it just like I did! Wow! X
I have always loved Simon and Garfunkel sing this, but THIS cover? Goosebumps. Love David Draiman’s version. Disturbed rocks!
This song will never be the same after you listen to this version...💯❤️
I’ve always loved Disturbs version and I’m a fan of Simon and Garfunkel. But this version gives me goosebumps!
Thanks!
Thank you so much 😊
Every time I listen I cry it's amazing.i can listen over and over his voice is just unbelievable I love it ❤😢😊
This is the best and the most beautiful version of Sound of Silence I have ever heard.
@@skilz8098 I enjoy Pentatonix. Did not realize they did a version. Will definitely check it out. Thanks.
I am 76 , i loved this song, and yes i cried. It was beautiful, that voice is amazing. Thank you
Nothing like it.
Brilliant absolutely loved this version
This guy is not just another 'First Time Hearing/Seeing' You Tuber who tries to give a convincing talk about their feelings on what they are showing. You can actually see his reaction to this song not only on his face but by the fact the hair raised on his arms while he was listening. This is a channel I'll watch again.
Thank you Connie!
@@nickforell1 I have seen it said that people describe Simon and Garfunkel's version as the warning and this version as the anger that the warning was ignored. Glad I got to watch you react to it now I'm going to watch your reaction to the live version and then the Pentatonix version after that.
Your reaction was priceless and on point!!
I saw someone somewhere say that Simon and Garfunkels song, was a warning, and Disturbeds rendition is the anger of that warning not heeded.
I always get goosebumps when I listen to Disturbed sing this song! ❤
Like you I get goosebumps hearing this and I’ve heard this all of my 65 years. ❤❤
LOVE ❤

Until I heard this version I would have never given metal music a chance, I'm 66 and now love all of their music....favorites are 'Stricken', 'Stupify' and 'Hold on to Memories'. Hope you'll cover more Disturbed....great reaction!
I'm 60, have been a hard rock fan for years but Disturbed is on a whole different level! My favorite is Hold On To Memories. I want it played at my funeral. They have a true message.
Hold on to memories ❤❤❤

Same here! I'm a huge Disturbed fan now!!
I watch this every time it hits my feed. Such a powerful song.
LOVE The Band @Disturbed Lead Singer DAVID Is Awesome ❤
This rendition gave me chills and tears. An amazing interpretation of the song and so powerful. Love his voice.
I completely agree. Such a great cover
Loved this, you were sure that you wasn't going to like it then when I seen you're face changed expressions and I loved it,GREATEST REACTION OF ALL TIME!!!
