Would this mic be good for recording woodwinds? I am looking for a mic gives me a dark sound that doesn't make the woodwind sound too harsh at most time...Thanks!
I can never have enough ribbon mics! Have you tried flipping the polarity when using the back side of the mic? Sure recommends doing this with their KSM313 mic, and it gives it a thick rich low end.
Hi Warren - love your channel! I'm wondering: what mic stand(s) would you recommend to enable placement of two mics on one speaker cone simultaneously as you did with the SM-57 and Royer R-10? Thanks in advance!!!
Both great, with very different! I would use the Coles specifically in overly bright situations, like live rooms with glass to tame the high end! The Royer R10 is an all purpose mic I would use everywhere! Particularly guitars! Check out this video I did with the Coles, Royer 121, AEA and Mesanovic! I wish I had the R10 then! ruclips.net/video/Zk7DBwJoIYM/видео.html
Paul Corben I would imagine so! Do you need for other things too? If so yes, get it! It wouldn’t be my first choice, it’s an amazing mic and will do many many things very well! I would just get something that’s it’s only job is to do voice overs.
@@Producelikeapro You put out great content . Much appreciated! My main focus is to do audio book narration and doing relaxation audios so what would be your first choice mic to get a great voice over sound?
Almost bought a pair of these last month. Great for drum overheads in addition to everything else mentioned. Ended up grabbing an M160 ribbon for a good price and an Lct 640ts actually. Wish me luck Warren, and thank you.
I used this to mic a guitar amp in a big band recording session- I didn't expect much being a $500 mic, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It wound up being one of the better sounding mics I used that day.
Gotta love ribbons! I love the Shure KSM313 blended 50/50 with an SM57 in a similar configuration to what you presented on electric guitar cabs. It's the closest representation of the "amp in the room" sound.
This would be a nice mic to win - I can but hope. I now have a small but reasonable selection of Dynamic & Condenser mics, but never imagined I'd even ever have a ribbon; at least anything worthy for the money. You gave one of these away, back in Sept 2018, so, assume this one, being yours, has been replaced by something better, or that you found yourself never using it?
Happy Boxing Day, Warren! Love the hair. I'd like to double mic a guitar cab with this and a 57. Not very imaginative, I know, but I've heard some really good sounding results with a 57 and an R-121.
This is the third giveaway that I joined. I hope I could win one of them. Excited much......It's really good to be one of the lifetime member of the Academy. whwowhwowhwwhow.
@@Producelikeapro Thanks Warren to you and to the wonderful PLAPA Academy with amazing members. There's so much to learn and I would say that that the Academy would help not only me but most of the musicians around the globe. Everything is pretty amazing! Lets rock.
Yes I’ve recorded violins and cellos in the R10. It does a great job especially when you use a small condenser mic with it to capture the extreme highs and lows. The best thing about the R 10 is that you can EQ it to your hearts content.
@Emi-Leigh Music I use a Neumann KM 184 but I also have used a Isk Little Gem ($50) that sounds great. For cello, place the SDC a foot away pointing right at an f hole. The R 10 should be further back pointing right above the bridge. Both SE Electronics and Sennheiser make good, less expensive than the Neumann, SDCs.
I have a pair of R-10s and have used them on vox and guitar, also on accordion, but as I also play cello I'm definitely going to try one next time I need to record my cello.

P.d. love your videos Warren, I would love to have that mic and check in first person the characteristic sound of a ribbon, that warmth and response to the transients.
What is the first thing you would record with this mic?
acoustic guitar and strings.
Hi Alexey Soloviev wonderful!!
Hi Frederik Groborsch thanks ever so much for sharing!
Produce Like A Pro 🎸 guitar and vocal
Hihat with the null pointing at whatever is nearby

Hi RC32 it is after all the season of giving!!
@@Producelikeapro Ahhh you know that is very true! Appreciative of the giving absolutely!
Merry Christmas to your and the whole PLAP Team. Thanks a lot for all the great contet throughout 2019 and helping me become the musician I am today!

Daily Drum Lesson Happy Christmas to you too! 🎄 🎄
Would this mic be good for recording woodwinds? I am looking for a mic gives me a dark sound that doesn't make the woodwind sound too harsh at most time...Thanks!
Which lapel mic are you using though?
Kshastra!!! I’ve used a lot of different types! Currently it’s the Sennheiser!
Thank you : ) I needed good noise cancellation lapel for events and wedding interviews that's why asked.
What are your thoughts on ribbon mics for vocals?
Hi CitizenofMelee I’ve had great results! Honestly this mic is insanely good for the price! It’s a great multi purpose mic!
Wow what a terrific mic! First thing I'd do is to record some acoustic guitar parts for a demo that I'm working on. Awesome! Thanks Warren!
Yes, it's amazing! I have two!
More giveaways!! Love how much you give back. Only wish there were a few more people in the world like this!
I can never have enough ribbon mics!
Have you tried flipping the polarity when using the back side of the mic? Sure recommends doing this with their KSM313 mic, and it gives it a thick rich low end.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing!
I think it would try it on mid vocals/or background chorus, the figure 8 is nice touch to get a decent live blend.
BopsStudios agreed 100%!
This is exciting! I'd want to test both sides on various vocal type shoot outs, and acoustics, and from different distances on the vocals.
Fantastic! Do it Audrey!

That little thing of yours is a thing of beauty at an affordable price point. Thanks again for that very generous offer!
Yes it is! Thanks ever so much my friend!!
OK, impressive, but compared to the Coles 4038? Your opinion, Warren?
Both great, with very different! I would use the Coles specifically in overly bright situations, like live rooms with glass to tame the high end! Fantastic! That's great to hear Rick!!
buying this for my Fender amp in the studio.. Thanks for this video Warren!
We have two R10s at the studio. Great for miking an amp with a 57 or a U87, plus vocals are great!
Hi Wandering Robot Studio yes! They are wonderful!

That mic sounds great Warren!!
Hi George Baader I agree 100%!
I'd like to see/hear the sE V7 compared with the 57 and also used with the Royer.
Yes, good combo! I have used all of those and the Royer wins for me! This new one, the R10 is a bargain!
Beautiful! Dark (but sweet) sounding Martin OM 000, with the “front side” ...
Todd McDermott that sounds like an amazing guitar!!
Produce Like A Pro once in a while ... I *stumble into a great instrument or piece of gear 😎

oh man thx, forgot about phantom 48+ power.
thats a trip, i've never used phantom power before .
