This film affected my entire life , I have not lead a life of being trapped in a mindless job I seen the planet and have enjoyed more than most do for the total duration they are here. I have owned two successful companies and sold both of them I fought to get to the top to be free to be able to what I like. This film was why I saw this film when I was 12 it shaped my life and to this day the freedom this young man had was what I wanted out of living .. I got it and enjoyed it .Thank you
My Mum & I went to see this movie when I was about 11. It gave me a feeling of inspiration & desire to go out & see the world. Beautiful music & story. So much emotion & hope!
I was a 15 year old in the city of sails, Auckland New Zealand when this movie came out. Fabulous!! I dreamt of sailing, joined the services and completed an Around The World Yacht race, 12 Sydney to Hobart's and numerous other events and the inspiration was the romance and adventure of the book and this movie. What a wonderful world.
As a young teenager I went back to the cinema four times in one week to watch this film. Never managed to see it come out on video in the uk and would love it to be released on dvd. the film and the music were wonderful.
Unforgetable movie, have searched for many years to find it. Then b ought it on the internet last month......watched it about 10 times already. Beautiful piece of music. Some dreams do come true!
I lived in the Virgin Islands for years because of this movie,I also had a job delivering boats, lived on a 36',but the greatest thing the 1st time was a guy I met on the docks in St.Thomas,he said"do you want to see my boat I traded for a power generator",so we took the dingy over,I recognized it right away, except it was painted green,It was the "Dove",I found the owner,he said I could have it for 4,000,I left to stateside to gather the cash, when I returned ,it was lost when Hugo came through.
I love this movie too, although I haven't seen it for many years now. I lived on a yacht with my family for 2 years and we did a big sailing trip around the top part of Australia.
I read about this young man who sailed around the world on Dove a 24ft Lapworth sloop. It also became the seeds that took root and has forever changed my life. Four years ago I bought a sailboat and having spent this time getting this boat ready I shall leave next year for my own voyage. The story of The Dove was followed in National Geographic magazine in three different months. To date these issues were the highest sellers.
I was always told it was a Sparkman/Stephens design commonly known as a SS24, could well be wrong, we had one and I learnt to sail on it before t=it ecame a pokey boat and we got a 30footer Hereshoff (spelling)
I remember watching the film in 1974. Brings back great memories. Lovely song and beautifully sung. Thanks for posting. Please listen to " I want you to know the writers". Thank you.
Thank you for posting just the song, I watched the entire movie on RUclips last night, made a longer post about it, beautiful days of my youth indeed. RIP Deborah Raffin, she was such a beautiful person. ❤️🙏🏼
I've been looking for this movie and its main theme song for over 45 years,. Such a wonderful melody. Some of the scenes are filmed around Cape Town in South Africa which is where I have been living for 41+ years. Come visit us sometime.
Robin you got me into sailing in 72 and the US Navy. He started out with a Lark 24 ft. And then he meant a woman, then it changed..❤️⛵️that’s ok LOVE you two. Or is it 3 or 4👍🇺🇸❤️
producers made a lot of alterations in the movie. Some were designed to make the movie flow better but why they had Robin and Patti marry in the Galapagos when they actually married in South Africa is beyond me.
Tried to buy this but sadly unavailable I've only come across the orchestral version on The best of John Barry album which is very good but I do love Lynn singing it .
life was cheaper in '65 (when the real guy began is trip) and people had more choices to do great things like this. Today's life is very expensive. I wish to do the same even dough i lack in offshore investements
Not true at all, you can still sail the world very inexpensively. You just have to want to do it badly enough. And what have "offshore investments" got to do with this? lol Go chase your dream, you can make it happen.
The producers played a little fast and loose with the details. Most were merely to help the film but Robin and Patti married in South Africa and took their honeymoon on a beat up motorbike almost running into a rhino or some such animal. Not sure why they chose to have Robin and Patti marry in the Galapagos as Africa makes a better story. Read the book countless times, and had Robin sign my copy. They have a bed and breakfast in Montana.
I was only seven years old when i saw this movie in Queen street Akl New Zealand in 1974 - and I still think about it sometimes. Thanks, DJ.

I was newly married when we saw this film. How the world has changed.
This song was used as a filler on Australia's ABC TV in the mid-70s. It popped into my mind a few days ago. Thanks for posting!

As soon as i watched the film on the cinema i went straight out and bought the single. still got it now.

Film directed by Gregory Peck...
Nope. Gregory Peck was the producer, but Charles Jarrott was the director.
The producers played a little fast and loose with the details. Most were merely to help the film but Robin and Patti married in South Africa and took their honeymoon on a beat up motorbike almost running into a rhino or some such animal. I don't think he did. most of this video looks to be a much newer boat
