There is no new knitting technology. You will find cashmere sweaters with straight lines from the 80s. It's just knitting choice. And honestly, not everything look right with slouchy sweaters. They certainly do not give you more freedom of movement. Its not an improvement, just a new style.
It's funny because I feel like the trends are so varied that you watch 5 stylists channels and get 5 different opinions about what is trending. Especially for pants/jeans. I've seen so many opinions about cropped vs long. I've decided that as long as you're styling the jeans in a modern way, any jean can be cool- even skinnies. Skinnies under some cool boots with some other trending pieces can feel fresh and modern.
You have to dress for your body shape. Like the knitware in the beginning of the video. It looks great on someone tall, with strong shoulders and no boobs. I think it has to be more fitted for a petite.
Skinny jeans are a staple and will never be out of style as long as they’re combined stylishly . I sometimes think style gurus are paid to make us ditch our favourite clothes in order to encourage sales of new ones ? Don’t be influenced by stylists too much - you’ve got to feel comfy and I’ll never feel comfy or stylish in wide legged jeans and clumpy loafers - it looks terrible on me .
I agree with your statement about skinny jeans. If you have a pair of knee high boots you need skinny jeans underneath. The other ones are too bulky to tuck into them!
Yes! We should all change our clothing styles and throw out our “outdated” clothes every single season so we can keep up with people who have more money than sense. Our landfills are hungry and we must do our part to keep them fed.
No one is suggesting that. Certainly not her. But at some point things do change. If you want less people to pollute, then stand up against immigration.
I sold all of my skinny jeans three seasons ago (only because I was tired of them on me), but I feel that cropped, straight-leg, or tapered jeans do nothing for my body. I'm a tall hourglass, so I love my bootcut and flare jeans that hit the floor because they balance out my hips and look really feminine. Here in Los Angeles people still wear every kind of silhouette. You still see skinnies everywhere, so don't feel bad, ladies. I understand the point of the "what's in, what's out" videos, but always loved your channel because you don't usually do them. I find them alienating and designed to make people feel 'less than'. Who feels good about themself after watching one of these? Fashion is supposed to be fun and personal. I love how most of your videos are about how we can add pieces to our wardrobes, not take away what we love that's no longer good enough.
Don't ditch anything. It will be back in style in another year or two. One of the ways clothing manufacturers make loads of money. You are willing to buy New clothes time and time again because someone says so No thank you
Almost all the sezane knitwear I purchased last year gas the puffy sleeve. These sweaters were not inexpensive . Niw I am supposed to discard them!? Thats ridiculous. They are lovely and I will be wearing them!
I have an inverted triangle body shape & the sweater silhouette of a drop shoulder with wide sleeves & cuffs makes me look like a tank…😢 I’ve tried many brands but none of them flatter my shape. The silhouettes Elenna says to ditch are the ones that do look best on me. So, I’ll not be trendy but will still be wearing old items that flatter my body. I’m good with that 😎
I know, right?! I kept pausing the video to look at the cost of these sweaters:$285, $250... I'd be broke and in credit card debt up the wazoo. Thrift for me. Duplicate the look for (at this rate) thousands less expensive
@@likeargamanflaming940 Mine weren't as pricey as that. About half. I intend to keep them forever, and the quality is excellent, so I am willing to spend more.
You don't have to dispose of these sweaters. I cut off the tight knitted cuffs and hems and hand sewed a small hem in place of the knitted ones. On some pullovers I even put slits on the sides.
I take all your advices into account, they are very useful and make sense. Thank you for that. 👍However I can't get rid of the skinny jeans. I still have not found a modern jeans option suitable for me.
@Eli-23567 I totally agree with you about classic & timeless modern styles for your wardrobe items. Plus there’s no style of jeans that suits me apart from skinny jeans, all the other styles make me look frumpy & dumpy! I will rebel & carry on wearing my skinny jeans.
You have such an excellent eye for the small details that make such a big difference! Often I will put aside one garment in favor of another without quite knowing why-not sure why one looks outdated and the other current-and then you specify what I noticed but couldn’t articulate! Thank you.
These tips are fine if all you care about is being "in style." If you actually want to look GOOD, you have to pay much more attention to how a silhouette fits on your particular body, as well as how the piece works with your lifestyle and wardrobe. A well-cut, flattering garment made out of quality fabric in the right color - that's what to look for.
You are really an inspiration! Not only do you help with clothing choices but you help with understanding the need for a fresh mindset! Thank you so much Ellena -
I would disagree with the sweaters. I am quite busty with a small waist but curvy hips. If I wear straight knitwear I look 10kg heavier 😅 or just really frumpy and my work requires me to use my hands so cuffs are the way to go. I think you can always find clean and modern looking knitwear in different silhouettes ❤
Skinny jeans are the only ones I wear, paired with pumps and fitted blouses or sweaters, with or without fitted blazers, the only way not to hide my slim and tall figure.😊
I'm not loving the boxy loose sweater look. When you are in your 60s and still have a waist, you don't just want to ignore it with a loose sweater.🙂 IMO
I agree with you. Boxy sweaters and tee shirts are only ok for very young very slim and almost flat chested women. On more mature and bustier women they are just plain unflattering
I love a knit dress, especially in all-natural fibers. I wear my wool or cashmere ones so much in winter, over a silk, long-sleeved shirt or undershirt. With long, warm socks or tights (even leggings at home), this is the most comfy cold-weather outfit for me. To go out, I just add tall boots and a wool blazer or long wool coat, depending on the temperature (or an insulated trench coat if it’s wet, in addition to cold). I’m always looking for good knit (jersey) dresses, midi or mini (best for autumn and spring with tights and tall boots). I think dresses are so much more comfortable than trousers.
I love how your clips help me to look differently at what I wear! Like moving the furniture around that I already own, and realising those floral cushions have to go 😂❤
I've been following you for a long time, I really like it. It's so good that I found your content in English. Very good practice when learning English. Thank you for such an idea.
I love wide leg and straight leg jeans and this is what I usually wear, but I do still have one pair of skinny jeans because when I wear my knee boots these are the only jeans that fit inside them. I much prefer knee boots with a slim fitting jean because I am not a leggings girl. I do wear my knee boots with dresses and skirts but when I want to wear jeans I have the skinnies.
Thank you! I’ve never understood the concept of long introductions. If you’ve already clicked on the video, it means you're interested, so why spend time convincing you that the topic is important? I’d rather dive straight in and make the most of your time! 😄
Please subscribe and keep Ellena's great content coming. It is free for you and so important for our favorite fashion content creators, especially a proven stylist like Ellenna.
Thanks so much! That really means a lot. I’m super grateful for all the support, and it definitely keeps me excited to create more high-quality content for you guys!
I like the boxy sweaters on other people, but they don’t work on me. I think it’s the dropped shoulders that seem to make my sloping shoulders and pear shape look worse. I also think they suit very small hipped and slim frames with broader shoulders because the boxiness counteracts that. Plus, the A line skirt examples you show have a slimmer fit jumper which works much better as it gives contrast in shape.
I can’t appreciate the long denim skirts because they make me think of the girls in strict religious families who aren’t allowed to wear pants or short skirts. Long denim skirts are the closest they can get to jeans so they wear them constantly. Whenever I try one on I’m like “Oh no it looks like I joined a cult!”
I say wear whatever flatters you, because style is so personal and varies so much according to body type. Skinny jeans were never my thing because I always felt they made my size 10/11 feet look huge! They also squeeze my calf muscles too much. I prefer straight leg “boot cut” jeans.
I totally agree with you. People should wear whatever they want to wear, and shouldn't allow anyone to bully them into wearing things, just because they are on trend.
Another great video. You are helping me decide what to keep. I have lots of clothes and shoes and think I can be modern with your help. I love the intention of your videos and the variety.
Another excellent video, although I am a little gutted about the ribbed sweaters :) I appreciate how you offer chic, modern alternatives to beloved styles that are out of fashion.
I rather wear my skinny jeans with riding boots than the silly balloon leg jeans Influencer stylists are pushing. Bermuda shorts look super mumsy. Everything else isn't in my wardrobe 😊
Love watching you and very thankful for ALL your honesty with input and tips!! My MAJOR problem I have is I’m petite 4’11” and shrinking with age 54. Any input I would LOVE to know. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
You don't want advice from me but if you are so petite I really wouldn't go for the shortened trouser / jeans length. Rather wear full length and preferably with a colour matching shoe / boot to elongate your leg length and silhouette. Also don't overwhelm your petite frame by wearing voluminously wide trousers. Keep shapes in harmony with your small frame
You’re the best. I love the look of the burgundy sweater and skirt. I want to wear my sweater off the shoulder like that, say at the restaurant table, but I’m not sure if it will look funny on me at 64. Do you wear it like that for posing or for walking around too?
The liquid leather skirts are 👍👍. Suede skirts I can't get behind, at least not yet. A suede purse is okay. The Country Chic fashion which is all the rage right now, all show skinny jeans tucked into riding boots. So which other type of jeans will look good tucked into boots?
I'm happy I don't own most of those clothes. I have some floor length flared jeans that I truly love so I'm not ditching them. And I'm super happy you have an a-line denim skirt because I'm struggling to style mine. It gives me cowgirl vibbes that I don't want to project!! I hope for one of your mini master-class so I figure out how to wear it!
“Aim to look stylish not young”, as a lady in her 70s do I take that statement to heart. Nothing worse than an older person trying to regain their glory days. Just makes us look foolish and not at all classy. Thanks for your thoughtful words.
So, "class"' is in the clothes? I thought that people are supposed to be ethical (always) and wiser with age. I can think of some things that can be worse than this. So many stupid people. Scary.
If we have some shirring elastic and a large needle we can use sweaters we have had for years saving lots of money. Lovely to be able to use favourite sweaters for even longer. I love my old wardrobe, what comes around, comes around.
Bellissimala combo bordò e fucsia !! Non avrei mai pensato potessero stare così bene assieme. Grazie per l'idea. Il mio outfit oggi: Gonna lunga leo satinata, maglia fucsia e giacchina corta bordò, stivali marroni scuri.
recently i purchased from hm a dark denim mini skirt with a hem {not raw edge}. i pair it with a dark denim belted blazer from the gap ... it's a modern suit that looks great. i'm petite with an {almost} year round tan and cute legs lol. i live in a laid back coastal beach town in florida where it is warm year round. that being said ... i'm not sure anything is a "wardrobe staple" because styles / trends / fads come and go ALL the time. imho a "wardrobe staple" is a lovely beautifully fitting and comfy white lace bra. ;) love your quote "aim to look modern".
Thanks for an idea. I also just got that short dark blue denim skirt and live in a coastal area with summer year around - surely everybody here who can - wear mini all the time pairing it with tan on legs 😄
I wait that cropped trousers get out of trend. Since I have very long legs, they are far too short for me and for years it has been difficult to get long trousers. It is getting easier these days, which is great.
From modern to matronly,no thank you ! Don’t get drawn into an ugly style trend just because influencers feel that they must encourage us to spend money !
The one thing you need skinny jeans for is when you're oure wearing knee high boots. Any other jean has too much bulky material to tuck them into the boot!
There are things I have trouble forgetting. I am immigrant (actually I had two immigrations). In the early 90s, after 5 difficult years (I came without English), I decided to go for my first vacation in Bermuda. I needed a new swimsuit, so I went to Loehmann. When I tried one in the common room, an older woman (78) was looking at me with her disapproval. I asked for her opinion. "It's nice" she said "But this is last year fashion" I finally threw out this swimsuit (yes, I bought it) together with another one just several years ago. Nothing wrong was with their fashion, just physical deterioration. dr anna
I never liked puffed sleeves and mostly avoided them. But, I did buy one cashmere dress, that I otherwise love, that has them. I don’t think this detail looks very modern, I prefer both a standard shoulder seam and straight, standard cuff than the puffed or gathered ones. I don’t follow trends that much, and wouldn’t get rid of a trendy piece just because the trend got stale-looking, if I loved the item. But, I’m very careful about adopting such trendy details, classic styles are far more enduring. I’m not a fan of the huge, long sweaters we’re seeing this season and I find those flared sleeves very impractical. They’re always much too long and won’t stay up if I need to eat, wash my hands, etc. and they let a lot of cold in. I end up wearing elastic bands on them all day, neither comfy, nor stylish. I also don’t like short-sleeved warm sweaters, my arms get cold first thing. If it’s cold enough to wear wool or cashmere, my arms have to be covered, too.
I live in a quiet UK country town and as much as I love clothes and fashion much of what you have to say is inappropriate. I do my best but there are limits and nobody wishes to stand out from the crowd. It is a dilemma, I want to keep up but I don’t want to look ridiculous. What is the answer?
Why would keeping up to date make you look ridiculous? Plenty of people are happy to stand out from the crowd (I’m not brave enough to be one of them) but you can still wear pieces that are current without being a total slave to fashion. Wear what you like that suits you and enjoy making your own style. I also live in a small town by the way.
Try adding in one piece at a time with the rest of the outfit being something you're comfortable with? Once you get used to a small change you start gaining confidence to try other things. And you may inspire someone else to join you 😊
Totally disagree about the knitwear. They're just shapeless, only suitable for tall, (generally) slim women. The big, straight jumpers would swamp my curvy 5' nothing frame. It doesn't matter what the trend is if the clothes don't look good on you.
I don’t like the baggy wrists on sweaters…I am petite and sleeves tend to be too long, therefore I can’t wear these types of sweater because I look like I’m wearing a sweater in the wrong size.
I would never ditch the skinnies. Winter is all about skinnies with knee high boots. Pair them with a chunky pullover and you look always stylish. Style is not about following trends but rather knowing how to incorporate what you have in your wardrobe. If you want to be trendy invest in accessories: belts, casquettes, glasses, trendy faux bijoux etc. Unexpected color combos make for very trendy looks. Example wear a light blue cashmere knit with a green/khaki belt and a dark blue or grey jean. Add a suede casquette and you are good to go. Never ditch a good cashmere or wool pullover just because the sleeves are no longer trendy. That is nonsense. Trends come and go, cashmere stays. ;) If you are over 40 like me you know fashion rotates. They are not reinventing the wheel. Now we are reliving the 80s oversized blazers with massive sleeves. Nothing new. Soon we will redo 90s and so on. Keep your good pieces in your wardrobe and pull them out when the trend is back. Save your money. Cheers!
Ellena, several of my friends don’t subscribe because they believe their information is somehow compromised. If you maybe could reassure viewers their information is safe, it might change things.
@@valeriecoopet9897 I can’t speak for Elena but here’s my take on it - she’s not I.T. Support 🤷🏻♀️ If your friends info is compromised online it’s nothing to do with any particular site - but likely due to them having very weak passwords everywhere.
Hello Ellena! Thank you for the new video! You are absolutely right! These items have to go. They are not aesthetically pleasing, anyway. My objection is to cropped pants. If you are 1.60 m like I am, you look short. If you are tall, you look as if you' ve borrowed someone else's pants. You look ridiculous...

😂😂this is why classic is the way to go so I am never out of style -aka Ralph Lauren😊
My fave jeans are a pair of skinny jeans and i love them.
Don't ditch anything. It will be back in style in another year or two. One of the ways clothing manufacturers make loads of money. You are willing to buy New clothes time and time again because someone says so No thank you
Exactly! Let's have some common sense and don't get into their games!
Do you have guidance on how to style these sweaters for larger busts?
Almost all the sezane knitwear I purchased last year gas the puffy sleeve. These sweaters were not inexpensive . Niw I am supposed to discard them!? Thats ridiculous. They are lovely and I will be wearing them!
I like ballon sleeves too.
@@michelebrotman5345 That's sounds excellent. Good quality, that one knows she'll keep at less expense. Win win! 👏
Wise words, don’t be fashionable, be yourself!!!!
You don't have to dispose of these sweaters. I cut off the tight knitted cuffs and hems and hand sewed a small hem in place of the knitted ones. On some pullovers I even put slits on the sides.
Great idea! Thank you for the advice - I’m sure it will inspire many others to give it a try! ❤
That would ruin perfectly good sweater. Just leave them alone until they are back in style. Everything always comes back.
And just when I got into bell jeans she's telling me they're already out of style...
@@ZosiaSamosiaOo😵💫
@@ZosiaSamosiaOo Be a rebel, and just wear whatever you want.
"Slim" are close, but not so skinny.
You have such an excellent eye for the small details that make such a big difference! Often I will put aside one garment in favor of another without quite knowing why-not sure why one looks outdated and the other current-and then you specify what I noticed but couldn’t articulate! Thank you.
It means you’ve got great fashion intuition! Trust your inner fashion voice - it’s leading you in the right direction!
I just brought a midi dark blue denim skirt from a local thrift shop not fully knowing if I will ever use it in my wardrobe. You gave me some ideas!
You have an amazing way of putting jewellry together with outfits. I would love a jewelry video!
Why does knitwear have so many dropped shoulder seams?
It’s not that important, here’s an example of the same modern design with a regular shoulder seam: bit.ly/3Ybd7Tr
Exactly, I hate that
@@marilyn6168you should wear what makes you happy but honestly the dropped seam does look more in style right now.
I dislike the dropped should. It looks weird on me and does not fit under jackets.
Dropped shoulder is a no for busty or top heavy bodied types… and it’s everywhere…. just like high necklines!!! I can’t buy anything recently 😢
Thank you so much Ellena -
you are so welcome! Thank you for your kind words ❤
This is a tough season for sweaters for we busty types! Everything is cropped.
I’m still not ready to lose my skinny jeans 😬
Same! They are perfect with boots 👢 I say at least keep one pair of skinnies.
Don't give up wearing skinny jeans, if you like them. Style is about wearing what suits you, not what's on trend.
Skinny jeans are the only ones I wear, paired with pumps and fitted blouses or sweaters, with or without fitted blazers, the only way not to hide my slim and tall figure.😊
I dont normally like them, but they are great with tall boots, so Im keeping them.
I'm not loving the boxy loose sweater look. When you are in your 60s and still have a waist, you don't just want to ignore it with a loose sweater.🙂 IMO
You can tuck them in at the front. I like cropped sweaters myself.
Your videos, your advice, your creativity are all appreciated 💙
Thank you so Much!!!! ❤
I love how your clips help me to look differently at what I wear! Like moving the furniture around that I already own, and realising those floral cushions have to go 😂❤
"Dressing like a highlighter" 😅 love your work! ❤
The new sweater look seems frumpy to me.
I think what ever you style, always looks great on you.
I don't know. Why would straight cuffs look frumpy as opposed to balloon cuffs? Honestly, most sweaters have straight cuffs, even vintage ones.
Always the best fashion advice and I love how you get to the point without a lot of intro❤️❤️
Thank you! I’ve never understood the concept of long introductions. If you’ve already clicked on the video, it means you're interested, so why spend time convincing you that the topic is important? I’d rather dive straight in and make the most of your time! 😄

Thank you Ellena. So helpful about jeans, shoes, knits. Appreciated.
¡Gracias!
Thank you for your video! You are one of the best fashion bloggers in the world 👍
I can’t appreciate the long denim skirts because they make me think of the girls in strict religious families who aren’t allowed to wear pants or short skirts. Long denim skirts are the closest they can get to jeans so they wear them constantly.
Whenever I try one on I’m like “Oh no it looks like I joined a cult!”
LOL, I agree
Kind of a bizarre way to look at denim skirts. I think they are very cute and stylish, depending upon how the outfit is put together.
I feel the same way, is a trend that is not going to last.
Also, denim.does not drape properly. Ugly, inelegant fabric.
I agree, whenever I wear long skirts, and I do have some in my rotation, Im always putting something sexy on top so I dont look accidentally amish.
I love that you are so fashion forward. It really helps me stay current!
Best fashion Queen! Thank you for your amazing videos ❤
Where do I find the outfit at the beginning of g of your video? I love it.
Ready to be educated and informed
Thank you Ellena ♥️
thank you for this comment!!! I hope you'll like it!!!
Another great video. You are helping me decide what to keep. I have lots of clothes and shoes and think I can be modern with your help. I love the intention of your videos and the variety.
If I ditched all my dated pieces I would have no clothes. And yet vintage is trendy? How can that be!
Another excellent video, although I am a little gutted about the ribbed sweaters :) I appreciate how you offer chic, modern alternatives to beloved styles that are out of fashion.
I am from Kazakhstan, love love love❤❤❤ your work, style!! Я груша, за 40 уже и прям в сердце, не прпускаю не одно видео❤❤
Do you live in Astana?
@sallyadams3981 yep 👍
I rather wear my skinny jeans with riding boots than the silly balloon leg jeans Influencer stylists are pushing. Bermuda shorts look super mumsy. Everything else isn't in my wardrobe 😊
Love seeing your mum!! ❤
Ellena=gorgeous in everything!❤
Can you please send me a link to the earrings you are wearing in this video?
So useful, thank you very much ❤
I love straight, wide-legged, and tapered jeans. Skinny jeans were never my jam unless they were tucked into boots. However, I like slim jeans.😊
Thank you, good advice 👍🏻
Like your style. Baggy sweaters make me look frumpy.
recently i purchased from hm a dark denim mini skirt with a hem {not raw edge}. i pair it with a dark denim belted blazer from the gap ... it's a modern suit that looks great. i'm petite with an {almost} year round tan and cute legs lol. i live in a laid back coastal beach town in florida where it is warm year round. that being said ... i'm not sure anything is a "wardrobe staple" because styles / trends / fads come and go ALL the time. imho a "wardrobe staple" is a lovely beautifully fitting and comfy white lace bra. ;) love your quote "aim to look modern".
Thanks for an idea. I also just got that short dark blue denim skirt and live in a coastal area with summer year around - surely everybody here who can - wear mini all the time pairing it with tan on legs 😄
Couldn't agree more 😀🙌

I like them. They look excellent on me. And I wear them too.

I wait that cropped trousers get out of trend. Since I have very long legs, they are far too short for me and for years it has been difficult to get long trousers. It is getting easier these days, which is great.
Look like Quince! ❤
Get your Mom on with you! Showing fashions for the older ladies!
Your Mom so cute 🤣❤️
I am petite and wasted money on things from COS. They are for talll flat chested Scandinavians.
"It's nice" she said "But this is last year fashion"
I finally threw out this swimsuit (yes, I bought it) together with another one just several years ago. Nothing wrong was with their fashion, just physical deterioration.

What is the difference between tapered and skinny? Tightness? 🤨
Nooo! Not my skinny jeans! Luckily that hasn't caught on where I live - see skinny jeans everywhere.
I would like to meet with a video say the masculine look went out of the style! 😁
I never knew tapered sweaters were in. I don't wear any of these dated pieces although I don't follow fashion.
I have been waiting for *yutulu* forever.thank you!!!!
Bell bottom jeans are the best
It might be “modern knitwear, but it is more masculine too.
Not for me unless it is extra long as to the knuckles and bells out, very gently.
The models are all tall and slim, what about style for the short gals

Cheers!
10:40 Ripped jeans are always a no-no, specially when trying to have a elegant but relaxed look. Frayed hem might be trendy but looks cheap!

Yup skinny jeans look really dated. I'm finding it hard to find a cut I like on me. I do like those h and m straight legged ones.
