Why You Need To CHANGE YOUR FACTORY CAR SPEAKERS IMMEDIATELY!!

  • In this video I show why I think you should change your factory car speakers immediately! If you're like me, an audiophile of sorts, then you've probably noticed how dreadful your car, truck or SUV's factory speakers are. The process to change them out is relatively similar for most vehicles and can sometimes even be easy. In this video I work with my 2005 GMC Envoy (same as Trailblazer) and swap out the front component factory speakers for a brand new Infinity Reference REF-6522EX set that sound incredible.

      Some of the Monsoon stuff is ok-ish though. Doesn't look fancy, but plenty loud and clear enough for a stock setup. However some of the speakers use dual coils that are trickier to find drop-in replacements for. (Basically leaving you to re-do the whole system including the head unit and amp if you decide to go for something else.)
      In my case I stuck with the stock style system, but using a set of revised replacement speakers. The early stock speakers were prone to separation where the cones attached to the basket. That was the only problem and time I had significant distortion on it. No problems since changing it though.

    Being an open back speaker with no dedicated box, the door is it's box, so:
    - removing the tweeter creates a new hole and that is a bad idea;
    - as others already said, the foam around the speakers HAD a purpose (manufacturers HATE spending a single cent if not necessary);
    - seen as you have no idea what size box the new speaker needs (mentioned in tech spec as "Vas" if I'm not mistaken), sound deadening, as mentioned also by others, should have been installed as it successfully compensates for volume too big or too little (to some extent) and sound deadening is a good idea anyway;
    Also, so that you know: thin paper makes the membrane of some of the most exclusive speakers in the world and is sometimes preferred to high tech materials, the fact that is also the choice of cheap speaker manufacturers is just a coincidence.

    I would have used the infinity component speakers better. You could have used the woofer with the stock tweeter or done what you did in your 95 Suburban. In essence it was a slight downgrade in spatial music property.

      Well he should've still not mounted it in that factory location if he was using components. He should've mounted them in the a-pillar for to bring them up to the height of his ears. Having the tweeter in the door like that is just stupid.

    I thought my HU was bad because 3 of my 4 speakers stopped working but on occasion they would work for a few seconds. I had some tell me it was the HU but I watched vids like this one and decided to change a speaker to see if the HU was the issue. Much to my surprise, The speakers are the problem. SO, if you have a situation that looks like a HU problem, do yourself a favor and check one speaker first. You may get away with just replacing speakers instead of an expensive HU.

    What i think is most important is, that if you have bad speakers you always have to put the volume up. If you have a proper speaker and dampening you can drive with less volume which is also better for your ears.
    Bose in my opinion is better than the usual ones but at all. Not The best.

    • @tomlindo2863
      @tomlindo2863 5 лет назад

      My guess based on the impressions in the foam and past experiences, it isolated the door panel from the speaker bracket. Now he could get rattle sounds from the door panel hitting the speaker housing. He wouldn't have been able to reuse the old foam as it's one time use sticky foam but you could buy something from local auto or hardware store.

      I learned my lesson with my 2001 Chevy Silverado truck I put new foam around the speaker. It's better too stick as close too factory work as you can making the speakers and radio look like they stock. I'll tell you a secret does not matter what kind of door speaker you get they all sound the same best way too get better sound get some 6x9 speaker boxes sit those bad boys under the hack seat now you'll hear acoustic sounds metal doors cannot offer

    GM uses the cheapest crap that chinese market can offer... With European car factories is similar.. If you don't have a sign Dynaudio,Bose or Harman Kardon, take that Sh*t right out of your car and buy better speakers... I've been repairing and servicing car audio for the last 15 years and from I can tell, VW and AUDI used to mount PIONEER speakers that were awesome... Nowdays they mount some cheap crap that sounds awful,distortion in sound and bass sounds like a fart... Nice work man ;)

      GM Delco radios in the 80's and early 90's would knock your socks off!!! Those were great systems! My 06 Monte Carlo has the bose option and it sounds great! I've had several 05 - 06 GMT 800 trucks with BOSE and they sound great also. My new 2018 Sierra has the BOSE with Navigation and it sounds great; I'm also 45 years old so I don't listen to my music very loud. Looking more for clarity!
