Another option for keeping the tweeter protected while using an active crossover, is adding a capacitor between the tweeter and the amp. So any low frequency that could come through, be it power on thump or a DSP failure, it'd have protection. Plus the capacitor will also help block any DC power caused by clipping.
I've bought some 100uF and 50uF capacitors to use for the protection for my Dayton Audio ND25TA-4 tweeters I'll be using in my car audio project, since I'm going to be using AudioControl's DSP based amplifiers for a full DIY 3-way configuration in my CR-V. :)
The sale of the AudioControl amps on Crutchfield helped me pull the trigger on the D-6.1200 and the D-4.800, the only thing that disappointed me, which is not the fault of Crutchfield at all, is the fact no one makes any bypass harnesses for the factory amp in the 2012 ~ 2016 Honda CR-V. Oh well, I'm working on making my own harness using a used factory amp for the connectors, customizing a PCB for those connectors, and going to run the differential-balanced signals from the headunit straight into the AudioControl amps! Utilizing the amp turn on and amp mute signals will be easy with a couple of solid state relays. A Normally Open and a Normally Closed relay should do the trick nicely there. I'll likely document my work as I keep going.
Thank you for all the inspirations you've been providing, Mark. Despite me primarily being heavily into DIY on my home theater system, you've still provided great tips and how to guides I feel are beneficial for future DIY projects within the home along with the car. :)

Man I'd love to put a DSP in my car. I'm using the head unit's crossover and EQ and it's better than expected, but still not the fine grain control I want. Although for what I paid, my car sounds awesome.

    • @JoshM7
      @JoshM7 5 лет назад

Emmanuel Umukoro I mean sure, but pre determined values that I can only select. On my other amp in the house that has dsp, I can select any frequency I want for the crossover, and the order, 1st to I think 8th. And not just a Lowpass, but both. (Car can only Highpass speakers, and Lowpass Sub) For the EQ side I can pick my frequency's to tweak and choose how wide I want to tweak it.
      Basically more freedom.

JL audio is the best speakers and amps going right now. I can tell you I have been listening and putting together systems in both home and car and vans and back in the 80's it was ADS and Concord head units, then smoother came and went, but right now, the cleanest power and the most accurate speakers are being made by JL audio.
Try to by the best speakers they make and match up the power with the amp that can also power the subwoofer also by JL audio. It sounds so good to have everything matched up from that one company. Chose whatever head unit you like, I prefer the Pioneer but that can change from year to year, the JL audio will not be changing. I am very said at the moment because I am stepping into a Lexus that comes with Mark Levinson sound system and it is not nearly as nice as the JL audio I'm leaving behind in my old Honda.

Crutchfield will tell you nothing good will fit in your car. You must go to a professional installer that can tell you what you can actually fit. Crutchfield has told me that the last 2 receivers I had installed would not fit but they fit fine. They also told me the last 2 components wouldn't fit but with the help of spacers they fit fine. When it comes to car audio you want the deepest depth speaker you can fit in that space, do not let crutchfield sell something a half inch shallower because they really don't know. Achieved very decent results and saw no need to go further. There's an 80/20 rule when it comes to results. You can achieve 80% of the result by putting in 20% of the work and money. You'd need 80% of the work and money to achieve that remaining 20%. I'm sure the end result is worth it but dang.. you must have some high brow clientele for your installs. This diagram specifies which speakers run from the head unit or the amp, and the layout of the amplifiers (some people have more than one amp) and other equipment (e.g. capacitors/ dedicated main battery, etc.).

what is the best coax you ever heard? and what is the best 3 way with small midrange and best midrange? im hesitating between dynaudio, morel, focal, hertz, audison, polk & others( like infinity midrange).. but its very very hard to choose... i want best from 60-70hz and up.. i need perfect tone.. (note im not counting crossover just the drivers)

I personally think if your gonna use a component speakers you should just use a mid range driver and some real tweets using a 4 channel amp to it's true abilitys. If you just wanna swap speakers you a coaxial.

So he said something I'm thinking about. I have a 02 deville with a bose factory amplifier. There's an total of 8 speakers running the speakers. 4 door speakers fronts 6.5 and rear doors 5.25, 1 8" subwoofer back dashboard, 2 tweeters in the front door pillars, and 1 small speaker in the center front dashboard. Can I run the component set through the factory amplifier? I already have 2 15" P2s on a prime 750.1 birth sheet says 879rms.

Outside of being able to mount the tweeter in a different location how do these compare to coaxial speaker that also come with crossovers? Alpine type R for example

      @jaydavidson4592 3 года назад +1

Late reply, I know, but I have the Alpine R components and the solid woofer cone is usually the vast difference over the coaxial hollow cone. Had a pair of pioneer coaxials once, and the mids are just not there.

Happy new year Mark, as usual another great knowledge added.
I’m still trying to find 18mm MDF material for my box at EGYPT 🇪🇬 lol 😂
anyway this video came at the right time as I need some help with my setup
What I have so far for my system is below
    Pioneer head unit AppRadio 4
2 sets front and rear components 6 3/4” Rockford fosgate T-1 power series.
One subwoofer as you know 15” alpine type R with your stunning subwoofer box blue print design I’ve purchased from you (so far the best part at my sound system)
4 Rockford fosgate amps matched RMS ( 4ch for mid bass - 4ch for TWT - 1ch mono for sub - 2ch for 2 mid range speakers)
    Rockford fosgate 3sixty.3 DSP
tons of Rockford fosgate accessories 10 farad capacitor and wires, amp kits and beakers bla bla bla, Odyssey battery PC680 with specs that I’m afraid it’s small 170CCA, 280MCA, 350HCA and 520 cranking amps for 5 seconds, and trying to upgrade my amp from 80 to 250 amps, RTA mic and SMD DD1 also almost all tools you have mentioned at your videos
The 2 speakers for mid range are 4” Focal Access 1 165 A3 and it came without cross over as a replacement for a component set, the problem is I don’t know how to set the 8 channels on DSP and is the focal speakers will match with my component Rockford sets? Should I run it all active or passive for Rockford sets?
I’m really confused and I believe I made a mistake with my purchase
What is your Input in my setup?
This is a link for my 4” focal midrange set without cross overs

    Great video.
Could you help me. I have a MB W205, I have added twetters, Hifonics vx 6.2t.
Now I have also replaced the standard speakers, only the front ones, they were horrible. I have put these. Crunch dsx42. Sounds good, but a little canned sound.
Is it possible that having tweeter and coaxial together is not too good? Or maybe you should put in a crossover to remove the low frequencies from the coax. THANKS!!!

Do I have to use the woofer inputs on my 3 way crossovers even if I don't have woofers to connect because all I'm using is mids and tweets so the question still is do I have to use the woofer inputs...?!

I actually have two sets of 6.5” Focal components in my car. Pricy but sound phenomenal. Bought them in 2011 and are still going strong. From 2011-2018 they were installed using the regular passive setup and sounded great. Recently had everything installed in a 2018 Accord and they did the active setup. It’s a world of difference in sound. Especially with high-end speakers like Focal it is very worth getting the most out of them. It’s like going from a regular exhaust to a free-flow dual exhaust.

Yep, usually more power means more money 💰. I usually go with coaxial speakers but rely on quality components, materials, installation, and tuning. It's not cheap but it isn't crazy expensive either. 2-3 grand give or take not including labor, time, and effort.

Small note; In your example you were measuring the DC resistance of the speaker, not the impedance. The nominal impedance will always be higher than the Re.

Need help. I have the focal expert component set. I’m using a 4-channel amp to power the 2 component sets in the front and 2 -2way speakers in the rear doors. I removed the “bi-amp” tab that is in the focal crossover and ran a total of 4 wires from the amp using 2 of the channels to the crossover and 2wires from the crossover to the tweeter and mid. Basically I’m using all 8 terminals on the focal crossover. Issue: sounds like garbage .... can’t hear hardly anything from the tweeter and the mid sounds muffled. I have sound deadening in the doors . The gain only seams to make the speakers sound worse. Please help me with what I’m doing wrong. I’m using the precision power 4400 80watts rms clean per channel . Any help would be appreciated

  • @RandoManFPV

    Why component and tweeter?
    Why not loudspeaker and tweeter?
Like with skar, you can get spx component set with tweeters for like 150$ish or you can get two fsx loudspeakers and a set of their high compression 3.5 tweeters for like the same price but this set would handle more power which I assume means they probably louder too?
    Component get lower generally?

Your typical car is one of the worst audio environments you could possibly have. You have treble absorbing seats right next to highly reflective windows with rattling trim everywhere. Each person is sitting offset from center with no good placement for midrange or tweeters without being totally obnoxious about it. Add to that the bumpy ride, terribly dirty electrical source, dust, heat, cold, humidity, and incredibly destructive sunlight.

Please help! I have Alpine CDE-163BT Advanced Bluetooth CD Receiver with Alpine SPS-610 Coax in the soundbar of my Jeep and SPS-610C in the front with the tweeters mounted facing me. I added an Alpine S-A32F amp with channels 1&2 for the front speakers and Channel 3&4 for the rear speakers. But now the tweeters are HELL to listen to even with the FREQ selector for Channel 1&2 turned down or up. The shrill is unbearable. And the treble on the radio is at "0". How can I turn them down? Do I need a digital signal processor or passive crossovers even though they came with their own in-line crossovers? I'm about to rip my ears out or rip everything out of my Jeep!
