Hey Louis, I brought my dog home (to Ireland) from Canada via the US. You can’t legally fly a dog into the UK or Ireland in the cabin, they need to go in the hold. I wasn’t comfortable with this as my dog is so small and it’s quite unknown. Not only that but it’s EXPENSIVE. I was able to fly into Amsterdam with him in a pet carrier bag under my plane seat in the cabin, then took a train to the hook of Holland, a ferry to Essex and trains across the UK to a ferry from Holyhead to Dublin. It was a bit nuts but absolutely worth it - he was able to stay with me for 100% of the trip, never left my sight AND it cost me a fraction of what it would have cost with a pet travel company. Definitely look into it if you can! And it would be significantly less arduous from the US to UK via France or NL. Happy travels 😊
@@robertl5754 I’m not sure, each airline has different rules. You’ll find their pet policy on their website! As far as I remember, the airline I flew with had a size requirement for the carrier bag so as long as the dog fits comfortably in the bag then it’s fine
Yes definitely research this, please don’t put poor Cali in the hold! Look at ways to keep her safe with you. Putting animals under the plane should be illegal, it’s so cruel and uncomfortable for them! 😱
@@victoriamahon3765 It depends on the size of the dog and the airline rules about pet travel. I can see your point about putting animals in the hold of a plane as cruel and uncomfortable. It also depends on how well trained they are.
Was thinking this too, we just drove our van through freezing Belgium and France and our range is so much less than we're used to! And the charges take much longer too, although we mostly notice it when fast (rapid) charging and I think Louis is only able to do a slower, AC charge where it's less noticeable.
Jax, what a small world. I started way back watching JaxAustin b/c of you years ago when he got the small school bus, but then he disappeared something with his health. I'm so happy to see him alive and well. What an interesting episode and twisted ending.
I’m really enjoying watching this trip. The added jeopardy of watching the battery symbol going down on the screen adds to the excitement though I do keep willing you to pull off the road somewhere safe before you get to 0% and totally lose power! 😅 Or look for somewhere to charge when you’re on around 20% maybe. My prediction is that you’ll start getting the hang of when to drive and when and where to stop and charge a few days before reaching your destination. 😂 Very watchable as a viewer and I think the frequent uploads makes that as it feels like we’re doing the daily drive with you.
I love this journey you're taking, but I have a recommendation. 0:34 please don't go that route. Going through the mountains like that gives you A LOT of hills. Even though it's shorter, you'll lose time from all the need to recharge. Keep to the 10 to Florida route. It's extra driving, but flatter. Plus you'll get to see more of the US and there's some really beautiful scenes along the coast (like sunrises over the water), so win win.
Just an FYI! Some states ban the use of the steering wheel ball on regular vehicles and only allow certain classes of vehicles to use them. Good luck on your journey!
JAAAAAX!!! OMG! I haven't seen or hear from him in a while! Total legend indeed!!! I followed him until he just "disappeared"... Glad to see he is doing ok!
I'm telling you that dog is the brains of the outfit, she knows who to make friends with and when to find the warmest spot in the van ie before Louis gets there. The star of the show 😊
If you are running out of time to make it home for Christmas and near Mebane NC you could park the van at our home and fly home to Raya, then fly back and go the rest of the way. We love watching your adventure and get so nervous watching the battery drain! Good luck
I'm really happy about this mini series. It's the best advertising why not to have a BEV. And it clearly shows: The most needed things for BEV drivers - are friends with powerful Diesel Pick Ups :]
@@elysewinter9597 as someone who was financially struggling quite a few years ago, I can tell you driving 400km to visit family when cashflow means you’ve only got enough fuel for a 350km, so as a last resort you add 100km of fuel near the end of the trip using supermarket rewards you’d forgotten you accumulated. Range anxiety is real... even in petrol vehicles.
Wholefoods are everywhere and there are charging stations everywhere. Now every hospital also has charging stations and most can be used 24/7. Also panera bread is a great place to get wifi.
My tip: A.B.C. - always be charging! If you park - the car charges. Try to find restaurants with chargers. You need a rest - your car don't. It can charge while you eat. This would have saved you from running out. (OK, depends on the region if there are enough place - they seem to be sparse over there.)

Epic! Jax, Jason and his turtles!? So many different people helping you along the way. Keeping the faith that you really will make it after all! The great holiday adventure!
So like, I know it makes it more exciting if you try to drive a full battery each time, but I can't help but think it might be worth it to try and aim for half a charge each time. It seems like it would be slower, but because you're charging for less time, it actually works out about the same, minus the overhead of finding places to charge, which if you had more power reserves, wouldn't be as stressful.
Also, the charge time from 80% to 100% is slower (well at least it is in my EV) so he's likely better to stop charging at 80% (unless it's overnight and he's sleeping anyways). We operate between 20% and 80% but then again we have the option of a Level 3 charger which he doesn't.
after seeing many video about EV journey, you know what's come in my mind? why not add solar panel unit + converter to normal RV park voltage to recharge extra battery pack while driving (with just switch like Set A & Set B battery pack that can run continuosly). just my opinion.. 😅
