agreed, longer videos would be beautiful tho
There’s many factors that could be associated to your breakouts
- Being sensitive to dairy
- Not drinking enough water
- Not showering IMMEDIATELY after training
- Unbalanced diet
- Touching your face
- Limited sun/fresh air
- Not changing bed sheets
- Etc.
I’ve always suffered from large breakouts until I realized I was super sensitive to dairy products. Now, I always make my food and overly cautious of every ingredient I use. Drink 15+ cups of water a day, walk once/every other day to get some fresh air, and just find what works for your body. It’s a process, but trust me, you’ll thank yourself later!
I'm the exact same way, and thankfully I figured out how to get rid of it. I've cut out almost all dairy in my diet and it's definitely had a positive outcome for my face
Genetics is my problem I've literally done everything also using acne treatment for a year
Great list. Dairy, diet (sugar and dairy), and not changing bed sheets are especially key.
Can I shower 30 minutes after working out? Coz it's a 30 minute walk home for me, or shall I take the bullet and shower at the gym. Also, some people say to cool down for a bit before showering after a workout
@@Dogflamingo It doesn't NEED to be immediately, but I highly recommend washing your body as soon as you can to avoid having the sweat absorb
I think it's more of a correlation. If you're drinking protein shakes everyday you are probably going to the gym often which causes you to sweat, more breakouts etc. I thought protein shakes were the culprit for my bad acne too until I started putting a cleanser on my face after every workout. Cleared up real quick.
what about... a shower?
@@jacoubkh9665 that’s a given lad
yeah leaving sweat on your face from a workout causes a bunch of breakouts
@@jacoubkh9665 sometimes you cant shower right after a workout but can take a few mins to quickly wash your face
yeah cleansing will help for sure but whey protein is derived from milk which is pretty well known for being bad for acne, I take soy protein which definitely causes way less acne, its definitely a worse source of protein but you can't have it all
It especially sucks if you have bad acne genetics aswell, i had to cut back on my protein shakes to 1/2 a week just so i woudn't have bad breakouts, nice informational video joe
try to put crem or something to help with the acne
@@bigrunts9768Casein is also made of dairy
I'm taking 60g a day and usually have 2 or 3 spots
Switch to vegan protein powder, no whey, similar cost.
yep, my dermatologist told me to reduce whey protein usage so i bought vegan protein powder and it did make a positive difference
I used to get a ton of acne on my back and shoulders but after switching to a plant based protein shake I've noticed them clear up almost completely. Maybe you should try switching to vegan protein shakes for 30-50 days and see if it has any difference
Its the dairy, I get tons of Acne on my back on a regular basis but take anything dairy and it will double and even my face which gets only the occasional little pimples will start to break out if I eat/drink anything with dairy and wheat is not as bad but doesn't help either however I haven't cut that completely
Vegan protein shakes come with a lot more bs tho, they’re mainly soy protein which has a handful of harmful effects such as lowering testosterone, full of fillers etc. Dairy isn’t the best either but whey isolate protein has been shown to not contain as much lactose.
@@dylan6996 Same for me, any dairy and I get far more spots than without. I love Joe's content but this was an awful study to draw any real conclusions from. Such a tiny sample size.
I will add that my skin is very prone to spots. My brothers get no spots and whey protein has no negative effect on their skin.
I think the clear advise to anyone with spots is try cutting out dairy for 30 days and see if your skin improves. Personally If I eat dairy I can go from clear skin to 3-5 bad spots in a matter of days. I now only drink vegan shakes.
yeah i swapped from whey to soy protein powder and my skin also cleared up completely
Yea same but then I noticed I started to stink 🤦
Joe could have made this into a 20 minute video but he kept it short and informative. Respect.
I love how your videos are short, get to the point, and very informative
Joe you have inspired me to workout , I am forever grateful for coming across your videos , I starting watching your skinny kid bulking up series , I now am trying to gain weight. Thanks for everything and keep up the work ❤❤❤
Great video Joe. I always has a bit of a concern when it came to this topic, but this video really helped give me the information I've been needing. Thanks!👍
Dude thank ou for the amazing gym tips! Thanks to yu I finally started growing and event rying to film my workouts now because my dream is to become a fitness influencer! Your editing skills are the ones I look up to!

Love your vids so much Joe, it’s inspired me to make my own channel and start my own journey. Keep up the awesome work man🤜
I think it's worse when you already have acne to be honest.
Short - simple - enjoyable, as always. Thank you Joe.

Eating too much protein causes more CBUM 😲
I always told myself that I would rather be big with little acne rather than small with baby face hahaha
Very well made Joe. Keep it up man love these vids.
high quality video as always joe, keep it up
Thank you for all the gym specific tips joe, you’re an inspiration 💯
holy shit ur name is so polish
@@fuiii_ 😂😂😂
I’ve gotten some acne due to whey protein. Switched over to collagen and have seen significant improvements. Only problem is collagen is pretty expensive.
Great video lad
Appreciate the effort❤️🔥
I guess it is depending on your age. I am a 14 y.o teenager. I stopped drinking protein 3 month ago and my acne actually got much better (I was eating same food that I used to it).
Exactly, my skin has gotten much better in the last 2 years. I am now 26. It's a process.
If u want to take protein still, id reccomebd just drinking plenty of water, i drink about a gallon a day (3.8 litres) amd my skins cleared up much better compared to when i was only drinking 1-2 litres of water
If you are acne prone (like me) it just gets worse if you drink whey protein, I switched to vegan based protein and I stopped drinking milk, now I rarely have bad acne breakouts. I also went to my dermatologist who said that drinking whey and milk can cause acne, and besdies that I was told to eat free range chicken and eggs from chicken that are relatively mobile because they have a much different hormon pallete compared to chickens that are most of the time in their hens and don't move alot. All of that helped me to be honest and I hope it helps someone else too.
This video is not the best example if whey protein causes acne... because these guys were not as acne prone as some other individuals in the world and the chances are they've already drank protein and had no previous acne breakouts so it obviously didn't affect them as much before and after drinking 3 shakes/month. Besides that, the test group of 5-6 people is not big so this is a nice experiment but not something you should take for granted. Best thing to do is try to experiment with diet restructuring yourself to see what works for you and what doesn't work for you.
Hi Daniel! Do you have any recommendations of vegan based protein brand ?
awesome video its just an insane 4 min video everything you would need and you would like to see and expect from the title and thumbnail. Just perfection
i been watching bro since "skinny kid bulking up" days, crazy to see the improvements in physique and editing in videos.
Ive suffered with acne for years now, on my cut in last summer I was drinking 2 clear whey shakes a day. I thought the cut would help my acne because of cutting back on certain foods but it actually got worse. I never thought about whey protein as a contributor to acne until near the end of my cut, so I cut it out after some research as a result my acne got better. It’s tricky with this topic because all the research is not proven and it’s all a theory but what I would say is that if you already suffer with acne it can worsen the severity of it, if you have not already got acne whey will not magically cause it.
Go to a dermatologist and get yourself roaccutane prescribed bro, it literally eradicated any acne i had in like a month or two. You have to keep taking it for a year though so the acne never pops up again. The side effects can be annoying tho; dry eyes, dry skin and dry lips. So if you do decide to take those pills you gotta Moisturize your face, get one of those lip sticks to protect your lips, drink enough water and you’ll be fine. By the way it’s a very safe medicine (unless you are pregnant, but indont think that applies here) that has been tried and tested since the 60s, so dont be afraid of it!
@@marktheprussian you also can't go in sunlight and drink alcohol so fuck that
@@marktheprussian I’ve been on it twice first time when I was 15 and second time last year had to come off it cos it fucked with my head the second time
@@marktheprussian I’m on some different anti biotics that don’t usually get prescribed for acne atm cos I’ve honestly tried every acne medication. It’s got better over time naturally tbh I’m nearly 19 so hopefully clears up by the time my teen years are over
@@yannmcgowan ah I see, I hope it does for you! All the best man!
cutting out dairy, sugar and processed foods was the best thing for improving my acne. but the severity of your acne will be down to your genetics, and with time and a healthy life style, it will naturally go away. (and trust me, i have a lot more experience with this than most people, i had severe cystic acne for 5 years and still have the odd breakout here and there)
W JOE another great video
another banger vod 🔥🔥
So glad you made a video on this man. Every once in awhile I'll catch myself thinking that I shouldn't drink a protein shake if I want to look good (as in have less acne) but the protein shake itself is helping gain muscle which is also allowing me to look better. It's like a weird game of would you rather.
They do make dairy free protein powder now. Not hard to switch if you don't want acne from whey or casein.
sebum walked so cbum could run
Appriciate your videos fam! keep it going, you help me so much!
Great video as always Joe 👑
From my experience, my acne did get worse, but I think the whey wasn't the cause, it was just making it worse. If you don't have acne, whey wouldn't affect you that much. I stopped drinking whey, and it got better (currently taking BCAA instead).
Anyway, that's just my opinion
Been strugling with acne for all of my teenage years. It was my biggest insecurity and i started working out to make up for my appearance. When i finally went to a doctor she told me to stop using creatine and protein powder. Her reason was that my liver could not keep up. I went on acutane for 11 months and it helped alot. I have now been off acutane for 7 months and i do still not use creatine or protein powder. I am a firm believer that you can still make really good gains without protein powders or creatine. I really enjoyed the video Joe, keep up
To be fair it was probably 99% the accutane
@@CURTlS yeah but on top of protein and creatine your liver would be on the ropes
love your vid´s keep up the good work 💪🔥🔥🔥
like always a high quality video
To anyone suffering from acne: go to a dermatologist and get yourself roaccutane prescribed. After a couple months your acne will be nearly invisible! The side effect are a bit annoying though; dry eyes, dry skin and the most annoying one is dry lips. You just gotta moisturize, use one of those lip sticks to protect your lips and drink enough water and you’ll be okay. My dermatologist said it would take about a year to cure my acne, but it could take longer because you have to keep taking it daily so that your acne will never (yes, never) appear again.
in my opinion this should not be the first port of call, instead start to look at the root cause.
- Dairy is a massive cause in general
- Poor diet overall
- Not enough exposure to sunlight
- Poor quality shower water
- dirty bed sheets
- bad skin products
to name a few.
clean up your diet, make sure to sweat a lot and shower immediately after - saunas are great if used correctly, increase sunlight, stop using toxic skincare products and stay well hydrated would be a starting point.
Symptom management creams and prescriptions pills are not the answer, identify the root cause and you are on to a winner.
@@theodalloz615 yeah I agree, but as someone who has tried a bunch of different things to treat my acne (including the things you mentioned) the roaccutane was the only thing that worked.
Should be a last resort but really can be a miracle for bad acne. Talk to your doctor, do your own research, and try the basics first (no dairy, clean sheets, water, good cleanser).
Nah it definitely does (in my experience). I kept my training the exact same, started using whey, got crazy acne. Then swapped to plant protein, and it went away. Went back on whey protein to see if it were a coincidence, but no, after two days the acne came back.
For extra context i was drinking about 1-2 whey protein shakes a day, with milk. And I am not extremely acne prone, never really had any bad acne before this. And my age was 17 when I first used whey
which plant base protein you use?
Musashi, idk if it’s available in ur country, im from new zealand
What plant protein do you use ?
@@cfgg1841 musashi as well, plant tastes pretty shit tho ngl
this was great, well done Joe
AWESOME VID MANN
I definitely gained the experience that dairy products in general can cause acne or at least blemished skin.
For example, I’ve been eating oatmeal for the last ~20 years almost every morning. Once I came across the idea a couple years ago that milk might be the cause for my skin problems I gave it a try and switched to vegan (soy) milk. It had a HUGE effect. Basically all my pimples were gone in a few weeks.
Nowadays, I went back to „normal“ milk and in general I eat a lot of dairy products. My skin has definitely gotten worse again but not as bad as before, maybe also because I’m a couple years older now. But those „side effects“ are worth it for me because of the protein of these dairy products.
However, if you have serious or even not so serious skin problems. I definitely recommend to give it a try and erase all dairy products from your diet for a couple of weeks. I assume you will see improvements. If it’s worth it for you and you wanna switch, you have to decide in the end.
yeah u gotta pick your battles, dairy is the best source of protein for sure but soy is definitely decent if you get a lot of acne
Both dairy and soy have estrogen. Dairy is worse and will likely stay that way because estrogen in milk has risen a massive amount in recent years. Soy is bad because of how it is processed in pretty much anywhere that isn't Asia. I recommend getting protein from other sources while avoiding those two as much as possible. However, they are both in everything, so it is a difficult task to accomplish
@@SortableCrayon3 Estrogen in soy isn’t the same as in animal products as with many other nutrients having differences between the 2. You can search something like soy protein meta analysis there’s 2 I’ve come across that show no evidence of health issues for soy foods outside people who are allergic to it. Adds up with my experience anecdotally I’ve been drinking multiple glasses of soy milk for years now. Keep in mind I’m someone who pays attention to how different foods affect how I feel, I notice the difference between eating mostly whole plant foods daily (not vegan I just stay plant based most of the time) and then eating pizza, chips, meat, plant mock meat, etc. Even comparing say a plate of beans rice broccoli to plant protein powder that has tons of ingredients to make it taste better I notice a slight difference . Depends on how much and how often you eat but there’s definitely a food hierarchy
You can't really judge of five people some people are more likely to get acne than others and some not at all its to each person really. Whey could making you breakout like crazy and to another person not at all.
Agree, it's an awful study to draw any clear conclusions from. Extremely small sample size and none of them seem very susceptible to acne in the first place.
My advice to anyone watching is try cutting out dairy for yourself. It has a significant effect for me.
Nice video Joe keep going!!!
You work so hard on making your videos 💯💯
I started training again this year properly and drinking shakes, (clear whey)
I’ve had breakouts on my back. I’ve just started using Tee Tree body clean from the body shop, it’s clearing it up fast.
Worth looking into if you struggle with breakouts boys!
Joe, listen here: You have made it so far, you build a physique better than most of the population. You have gained so much respect from people world wide. KEEP GOING. Oh, one thing that you should start to try out is working out your trap muscles, that would make you look ten times bigger. Continue being the legend you are 👌
great video!

i love this man
This is actually a really good video
Love the 4 minute vid
thanks for this video
Fucking hell mate!the editing of the video, the shortness, the way u just get straight to the point😯....u were born to do youtube bro!Congratulations🙌🙌👏
Great vid! Would be interesting if you did this with regular whey protein as well. I used to drink whey protein and I've seen some improvement switching to vegan protein. Also I think whey isolate (which is what's used in the vid) has less lactose so it is is less of an acne trigger.
Great video as always. If you want Joe, would you mind making a video of your antropometric profile (especially wrist width or wrist circumference, knee width since these are contributing factors to the mesomorphic component)? I think it would be a great motivator for other "skinny guys" to see what is still possible even though they have bad genetics. Thanks.
I love your videos
Glad Hal made a return!
I LOVE YOU JOE #1
I love this guy’s voice
i had this question all while i got huge acne breakouts an idk the reason to y i had them in the 1st place. Thank u for these specific vid joe! :)
1st of all i want to say that your 4 minute videos feel like 10 minutes long because they are so well done with so much content
2nd, awesome idea not telling them why youre making them drink the protein shakes... that helps control for placebo effect! well done!
Thank you bro
good video mate, was wondering about protein bars as many of them have chocolate and sugary things in them. could do a video on this?
nice experiment 🔥🔥
Bro we need longer video please
Good Vid. Usual thing I’ve seen in people is balanced diet not right level between macros and micros. Have a look at breakdown in your diet if your getting acne, protein shakes are probably ok but I expect not getting another of those vitamins and through natural sources.
