Shortly after Daniel won his first Oscar for My left foot, I was at my mother's house when she asked me if I remembered him. I wondered what she was talking about, and she told me how when I was a small child, the Day - Lewis family had rented a flat from my grandparents in Sussex, right next door to their own house. I think we are so used to having access that we forget they're people too. He might still be eccentric if he was a mechanic or worked in an office. He can just afford to be an isolated eccentric.
I don't find Marlon Brando that great, though. I find Daniel Day-Lewis and Gary Oldman as brilliant actors. They can transform themselves just like Meryl Streep. They are not afraid to look the part as well.
When other actors imitate what you do, you are definitely great. Look at Warren Beatty and James Dean's early work. They were imitating him as did others.
I went to drama school in London to become an actor. The methodologies we get taught signify the monumental dedication Daniel Day-Lewis applied to his craft with every role which takes a lot of time, effort and concentration. He is what I would call “a master of his craft” in the world of acting
Daniel Day-Lewis comes from a very distinguish Family closer to the Queen of United Kingdom. Also I believe he was already born with that natural talent. The result = 3 Oscars as a Leading Role Actor, which is so hard to achieve. So yeah! He is a Genius!!!
You can tell by just one look that this gentleman is nothing short of a genius. And I don't think strange is the right adjective. Rather self-directed, individualistic, creative and assertive. Which is indeed rare in this day and age, but not strange.
Cool that he lives anonymously with his family, in a modest home on an otherwise expansive lot. Seems fitting. About all I wished to find out about him, other than what's on film & behind-the-scenes.

Danny was a year above me at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. When he finished the education he's first acting role was as a walk on in a play, the last act, last scene. All his fellow students occupied the front row in the audience to see him on the opening night. I can't remember the play. It was insignificant - we just waited to see Danny. His only line was "Madam, your carriage is waiting". Finally he entered the stage and said: "Carriage, your madam is waiting". No one breathed for the longest time. I remember thinking "This must be the best omen, ever!" I knew him as soft spoken, gentle, very avantgarde and extremely handsome. He had such a strong poetic air around him.

9. Robert DeNiro

I really enjoyed him in the ballad of jack and rose 🙂
Oh yes! That was an awesome movie!
Crazy genius and one the greatest actors to ever grace this earth.
I fell in love with him with a classic movie "The Age of the Innocence"1993. Lately "Phantom Thread" /Netflex
Gary Oldman and Daniel Day Lewis...in A class by themselves...Very Annointed Artist.
We're not going to use the word "Crazy", around this dignified man. Please.
That kind of careless, snide insinuation is likely part of what makes him value his privacy so highly.
@@JCPJCPJCP Absolutely, thank you. If I, here in my corner of South Africa, can respect his work, then so can his own people.

Greetings and all the best from southeastern New England, USA, where it's 1:34 a.m.
Edit: He's not only a great actor, often called the greatest in the English-speaking world, but he also seems to be an exemplary human being.
Thank you.
@@JCPJCPJCP ... that entire family. Thank you for stopping to say hello.
I think we are so used to having access that we forget they're people too. He might still be eccentric if he was a mechanic or worked in an office. He can just afford to be an isolated eccentric.
When I watched his movies it’s never Daniel it’s the role he played consumes you and you believed it. Bloody amazing acting, the best ever. 😊
To have success, you need sacrifice. We have one life. And he use it.
I don't find Marlon Brando that great, though. I find Daniel Day-Lewis and Gary Oldman as brilliant actors. They can transform themselves just like Meryl Streep. They are not afraid to look the part as well.
Very true. I agree. Marlob is monotonous except for Godfather he does strike the chord.
When other actors imitate what you do, you are definitely great. Look at Warren Beatty and James Dean's early work. They were imitating him as did others.
@@rockhero2274 yes many hollywood actors and other global actors r irrirating but u just need to tolerate them.
@@rockhero2274 Paul Newman as well imitated Marlon Brando
I’d add cate Blanchett to this list
Somewhere I read that, he used to cover up his one eye and look through another to prepare for the role of Bill the butcher in Gangs if New York.
I went to drama school in London to become an actor. The methodologies we get taught signify the monumental dedication Daniel Day-Lewis applied to his craft with every role which takes a lot of time, effort and concentration. He is what I would call “a master of his craft” in the world of acting
A truly great actor ! I have always enjoyed his work and I wish him all the best .
He's the best. He has a different personality and looks for His movies....he never looks the same... not monotonous at all.
You forgot his role in The Boxer on how he was so great in boxing that he could've fought pro.
The 1 and only.
An artist in every sense of the word.
Daniel is hands down the best actor of all time and people, and it's not even close.
So tired of media labeling people. Leave him alone.
Last of the Mohicans was one of my favorite movies of all time till this day
G.O.A.T.
Well, his a serious actor!!! Highly appreciated for making any movie he has acted in real!!💯💙 Quit!?Hope NOT!!
Cool that he lives anonymously with his family, in a modest home on an otherwise expansive lot. Seems fitting. About all I wished to find out about him, other than what's on film & behind-the-scenes.
Let's all hope he returns to acting at some point. Nobody better than old Danny
DDL is one of the best actors of our time.
Staying as far away from HW is how he keeps some semblance of normalcy & sanity!
Permanent retirement?
Never! Imo.
I loved him in the last of the Mohicans such a good movie wow very sexy very talented actor I love that movie over and over and over
Fantastic movie.
Daniel Day Lewis, Gary Oldman and Bryan Cranston, top 3 actors of all time, pound for pound. (In no specific order.)
I dont think hes considered one of the best actors of his generation i think hes actually the greatest actor of alltime easily the gold standard when it comes to versatility and depth with each and every character he plays being different than his other characters
What about him making shoes in italy ?
He's a Legend, after I saw Lincoln I watched all of his movies
The best of the best. Superb.
I remember thinking "This must be the best omen, ever!"
I knew him as soft spoken, gentle, very avantgarde and extremely handsome. He had such a strong poetic air around him.
both a genius and crazy! They go together
