A lot of Lincoln's dialog in the movie came directly from the massive biography on Abraham Lincoln by John Nicolay and John Hay. Nicolay and Hay were long time private secretaries to Lincoln who had been with him for many years of Lincoln's career, even before his presidency. In the movie "Lincoln", Hay was played by Joseph Cross and Nicolay was played by Jeremy Strong. They do not have many speaking parts in the movie but in nearly every scene with Lincoln meeting with his cabinet they can be seen in the background, listening and observing. Yes, it is impossible to know precisely what Lincoln said word for word, but much of it was reconstructed based on that biography. And there were perhaps no two better people to write a bio on Lincoln than his longtime aides and secretaries John Hay and John Nicolay. In fact, just about every single biography ever written on Lincoln is pulling information from Nicolay and Hay's books.
There will be blood is for me the greatest acting I’ve ever seen. It felt like you saw the obsessive greed and need for more that drives some people. Some people are so far ahead of other people already at the top of their professions it’s incredible. Daniel Day Lewis is one of them.
i once read a biography about him and the way i understood it was that he left acting because it was extremely stressful to become his characters. it just took so much out of him. there isn't a movie of his i don't like. one of my fav actors of all time.
DDL is a badass. He now lives somewhere in Wicklow Ireland and goes about life like a normal person. Best actor in the history of cinema who was never in a bad film and always gave tremendous performances.

Devin Michael Roberts I have to agree. Schindler's List was Slow, overhyped, inaccurate and Liam Neeson is a fair actor but totally miscast. And he's certainly nowhere near DDL. Neeson is a slightly cheesy "movie star." DD Lewis is an actor and a creator of characters in his own mind.
@@marcuswilson3485 Oh what rubbish. Schindler’s List is a near perfect film and Neeson’s performance was fantastic, critically praised and Oscar nominated. I hate people saying it was slow. Not all films are action movies and it’s good to have slow pacing to build, scenarios, characters and atmosphere. You don’t have to rush the plot all the the time.
I think the film is great due to the fact that that was really going on in what today is China town in NYC. I remember walking down a road and there was an intersection and my friend was like "this is the historic five points" I went full nerd mode.
You actually believe he's completely disabled in My Left Foot. A true story too. That was the 1st Day Lewis movie I saw and I still think it's the best acting I've ever seen from an actor. Just utterly stellar.
Daniel Day doesn't stay in character all the time during filming, he keeps the voice and mannerisms but mentally he switches in and out of the character like a professional actor. People who do method acting can take it too far being a jerk on set (Dustin Hoffman) but real method actors commit to the part without abusing/confusing people and holding up production. But seriously, get Daniel Day on the show. He'd probably be very amused by talking someone drastically different than him like Joe.
Amazing Daniel Day, Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Al Pachino those guys who still use method acting are the most dedicated to the craft and in my opinion give the most amazing performances but Daniel Day cant be out matched
@@Blackhawk211 the most underrated movie that I really enjoyed that barley gets any recognition The Machinist and American Psycho both both roles he physically changed and gave some of the most haunting performances
I read that Daniel Day Lewis when playing the role of a paralysed man in My left foot, he method acted being paralysed throughout the production and that he had to be moved around in a wheelchair, lifted over things and even fed by the crew. Sounds like a pain if you ask me.
He did it once, forced people to carry him in a wheel chair. But there was a reason, he wanted to feel the shame of people hating to carry him around, and used that emotion on screen.
Daniel Day Lewis is definitely one of the best actors in recent history. Most of the really good ones seem to be British. Anthony Hopkins is probably my favorite, although he's getting pretty old. But I can't think of any actor currently working that is better. He can do such a wide variety of character types and that shows the true talent he possesses.
Daniel Day-Lewis and Gary Oldman... man... two of the precious few people who fit into that Brando bracket. I don't think it's a stretch to say that he's the greatest living actor of the last 35 years! "There will be blood" has the greatest performance by an actor of any movie I've seen that was MADE in my lifetime.

“Stay alive no matter what it takes” “I will find you” Remember when he hugged his son in there will be blood....everything is just so natural with that guy
Joe! My granddad was a part of the movie the boxer. They used his gym in Dublin, he was truly impressed by how perfect he was at boxing and the way he trained was so close to being a pro
DDL outshines everyone in almost all his films. I think one co-star that closes on matching his performance is Sally Field in Lincoln. But Sally is also a method actor. She was great in that movie. Another good one is Winona in the Crucible considering how young she was, her performance was really impressive.

Daniel Day- Lewis is one of the best actors ever.
Joe “Jamie turn that up; Oh we have to turn it down because RUclips?” Rogan
Dylan Wright 😂😂😂
There will be blood is for me the greatest acting I’ve ever seen.
It felt like you saw the obsessive greed and need for more that drives some people.
Some people are so far ahead of other people already at the top of their professions it’s incredible.
Daniel Day Lewis is one of them.
This is the first time in many months that this joke format has actually made me laugh 👍
lmao he does that every single time
i once read a biography about him and the way i understood it was that he left acting because it was extremely stressful to become his characters. it just took so much out of him. there isn't a movie of his i don't like. one of my fav actors of all time.
“I wonder if he makes shoes for people?” - Joe Rogan
I believe he works exclusively with ducks and llamas
He means that if DDL makes shoes not only for himself
Cool to have a pair of shoes made by one of the greatest actors of all time, maybe the greatest
It’s joe “I wonder if he makes shoes for people” rogan
@@AlejandroGomez-rp9vp the greatest actor of all time

DDL is a badass. He now lives somewhere in Wicklow Ireland and goes about life like a normal person. Best actor in the history of cinema who was never in a bad film and always gave tremendous performances.
Last of the Mohicans is one of my all time favourite movies and I still cry like a baby when I watch it,.
The one reason DDL doesn’t do media or cultivate attention: he doesn’t need to. You can interpret this a million ways, they’re all correct.
His P.T Anderson collaborations were just sublime pieces of film, just pure artistry in the acting, direction and cinematography.
He’s a method actor. He dives right in, he becomes the character. He’s truly mastered his craft. He’s absolutely incredible at his craft.
The man that trained Daniel Day-Lewis for The Boxer was none other than Barry McGuigan, one of Ireland’s most successful boxers.
He said that Daniel was good enough to turn professional.

Kwenz Landah except If you ask anyone who knows movies they’ll tell you he’s the greatest of all time so
Lincoln wasn't slow.. it was amazing. .I've watched it 10 times and it never gets old.
Even by Spielberg standards, it was slow. I could sit through Schindler's List. Munich was good. War Horse was okay.
@@stevewilson5402 Saying "i could sit through Schindler's List" is proof of a bad taste in films. Clearly you could have picked his crap films like Jurassic park or his big budget sell out films but you chose schindlers list . Dude ughk,, it sucks sharing a country with shallow morons
Devin Michael Roberts Jurassic Park is iconic
Probably greatest actor I've seen in my lifetime and you don't even know it's Daniel when he in character because he that good
I didn’t care much for Gangs of New York as a movie, but Day-Lewis as Bill the Butcher was so amazing to watch.
I've watched it about 30 times and I'd tend to agree with you. DDL is the reason I watch it, not because of the film itself.
I think the film is great due to the fact that that was really going on in what today is China town in NYC. I remember walking down a road and there was an intersection and my friend was like "this is the historic five points" I went full nerd mode.
Harvey Weinstein slighty "butchered" the film with his handsy approach. I really wish Scorsese could make his true cut.
It hurts my heart to know he has retired. I'm really hoping someone will show him a script good enough to have him grace our screens again.
@@horror_fam0847 Christian Bale is seriously underrated. People think Batman and not the prestige etc
Loved how Joe still refers to Mark Wahlberg as "Marky Mark"
Day-Lewis’s acting range is incredibly broad, one of the most versatile actors in history.
Best actor of all time.
@Stefan Kovacevic so you not knowing who he is discredits his entire career huh
Easily the best of our time.
Keyboard Drunken Boxer mos def one of them

Daniel Day Lewis is definitely one of the best actors in recent history. Most of the really good ones seem to be British. Anthony Hopkins is probably my favorite, although he's getting pretty old. But I can't think of any actor currently working that is better. He can do such a wide variety of character types and that shows the true talent he possesses.
also christian bale and gary oldman
Leo?

Weak , Christy had two feet .
Mr. Lewis has been my favorite actor since the first time i saw his craft. The word "Actor", isn't enough.
Gangs of New York was incredible! Daniel Day Lewis Outshone Leo big time.
Leo was just playing another variation of Leo. Daniel is astounding different in every role.
Leo drops his accent so many times in that movie and only brings it back when he has a scene with DDL.
Daniel Day Lewis would easily be the best podcast of all time. I doubt he’d do it but man that’d be amazing.
DDL is the greatest Actor of all time.. Dozens of amazing Actors and a lot of them are the best in their own unique way. But DDL is just the best Actor hands down. I don't think a lot of people have seen his film "My Left Foot" his performance is just next level.
@@Lyons_T-BAGI couldn’t agree more. He’s by far the greatest actor of all time.

Daniel Day Lewis is a treasure just one of the greatest actors and artists ever
during the last of the mohicans he actually trained to be able to shoot from a long distance for real. In the movie "the crucible" he made his own shack and lived in it so he could be immersed in that world. he is just on another level.

DDL outshines everyone in almost all his films. I think one co-star that closes on matching his performance is Sally Field in Lincoln. But Sally is also a method actor. She was great in that movie. Another good one is Winona in the Crucible considering how young she was, her performance was really impressive.
