Anthony Hopkins. Frances McDormand. But wow, DDL is extraordinary.
I love this man and his work. Yet I feel Oprah massively cheapens this interview by making it all about her. An interviewer should be heard, yes, but very briefly and only to ask a question. Elaboration is not necessary. You're never going to get that with Oprah. " me me me" Winfrey
I have to say, he did an amazing job that made me watch the movie so many times. The movie wouldn’t have been that thrilling with out him playing the role of Lincoln. Thanks Danny, this piece was not just a movie, it is something to keep for generation to learn from it - both acting and the substance of it
Daniel Day Lewis is a beautiful, exquisite, undeniable talented man. With heart and wisdom within every word he says that is lept from the script, and into his mind of how the character should reflect.
He's both English and Irish, his father was born in Ireland, however Daniel was born in England...he has dual citizenships....but in the end what does it matter...we share him with the world with his perfection in acting!!
@@joebryant8500 He has an English mother, was born in England, and his father moved to England when he was only two years of age. His father was Cecil Day Lewis who became British Poet Laureate and was a product of the English public school system and Oxbridge. DDL is also a product of the English public school system and is now Sir Daniel day Lewis i.e. A Knight of the British Empire. Aside from his father being born in Ireland it is hard to imagine how he could be any more English. But being Irish to some is a bit like being black. The slightest hint of being Irish or indeed black eg a grandparent and you're Irish or black.
@Your Dad I agree. You only have to look at Peter O'Toole. Born in England with an Irish father and Scottish mother. He always claimed to be Irish, even fabricating the fact that he was born in Ireland when there is documentary proof of being born in Leeds infirmary. He also claimed to have only come to Ireland during the war when in reality the nearest he ever came to Ireland was the occasional holiday. All a bit pathetic but there seems to be this romantic underdog obsession with Ireland among "arty" types that draws them to Ireland. John Hurt once appeared on "Who do you think you are" convinced he had a spiritual attachment to Ireland without any proof to that effect. He was unbelievably disappointed when he was mistaken.
John Miller he is Irish. He may have been born in England. But his soul is Irish and he has said you cant help where you are born.but you can correct it.
aine71 Fair enough. If he wants to be Irish, who am I to say otherwise. I must say though, what Irish person wants to be a knight? Just tickles me. (Genuinely not trying to be a dick head.)
DDl is English, not Irish. we need to stop lying to ourselves that he's Irish. These stars live in Ireland because we allow them to live tax-free, not because of some hokey nonsense about it being their "spiritual" home: they all say that. We should be too well educated to fall for that PR paddywhackery, regardless of how sentimental it sounds. Oh, and...a wonderful actor.
Daniel Day Lewis is an amazing method actor, he embodies the character as if he is that person, total genius at what and how he prepares himself for the role he's taking on......ever since the Last Of The Mohicans movie, what he did to prepare himself for that role of Hawkeye was breath-taking months of becoming the character....he took on the essence of Hawkeye in everyway. Amazing actor...
An astounding portrayal. This illustrates the intense preparation he undertakes . I think it also points to the quality of the writing . The other actors in the film all seemed to rise to the script. I didn't see a bad performance. Like the movie Lawrence of Arabia, when I think of Lincoln's time, now, in my mind I see the faces and images from this movie.
is it not somewhat ironic that here we have at Brit from London, portraying one of the great US presidents…he does such a realistic portrayal that we now call him an Oscar winner…brilliant job DDL.
Yeah, I remember. The Obama speech in Chicago, and everyone adoring him for the Lincoln connection. His ad rep got a best advertising campaign of the year for his work on him. And Obama himself thanked him publicly saying how he, himself, was Daniel-Day Lewis.
He almost cried and thanked HER for describing the process of acting better than he ever could, what are you, in denial and delusional? Cuz she's fat and black or something?
It's like DDL channeled from Lincoln's spirit in the otherworld, all his quirks, characteristics, ideals, powers & his voice, in such an amazingly uncanny fashion, with a mastery that was nothing less than magically spellbinding. Captivating. Transcendent. Totally & wonderfully par for DDL's course. He virtually resurrected that iconic, complex, ultra nationalistic, mid 19th Century NYC lunatic Bill The Butcher, in the process giving one of the greatest cinematic performances of all time, for the ages, & one as unforgettably chilling as it was downright entertaining (his portrayal of Gerry Conlon in The Name of The Father was equally powerhouse caliber, astonishing & praise worthy, one of the best & most riveting of the 1990s!). Every screen character brought to life by that peerless thespian is powerfully compelling, & often electrifying, in an indelibly searing manner. Always brilliant & super dedicated to his craft, DDL is truly one of a kind, a British National Treasure, & a shining Star brighter & more celestial than any in the modern day acting firmament. Just incredibly immersive & passionate, fiery & transformative, mesmerizing & chameleonic, & if not the all time acting Goat than he is close enough to being justified that designation (he'd probably have Lincoln's vote as the finest ever!). Daniel Day Lewis is also a humble class act, an all round real good person. God Bless Him!
He is able to audio imagine Lincolns voice , from the richness of the Scripted dialogues... I've never heard an Actor say that ... Daniel have not improved nor loose any acting abilities, since " My Left Foot " its if he arrived fully formed. , like some mythical Irsh Bard , that shape shifts with the telling of every story ...... .....
He has decided to retire from acting..so sad May be he will change his mind....some actors like Sean Conner continue to his death but as the comments say Daniel is one of the kind he reach for perfection I saw an interview about The Last of the Mohicans he did a lot of running in the movie so he runned a lot for months he also made his own canoe He was 32 and Eric Sweigh 22 they both did a lot of running but 10 years+ he had to run as fast as Eric
Very annoying to watch Daniel Day Lewis, a man who notoriously gives very few interviews, getting constantly interrupted by Oprah who loves the sound of her own voice too much.
The Entire Movie set revolved around Daniel...Even Spielberg admits it and all the Actors...This was a SMART Move by Director and Cast...Daniel absolutely CRUSHED the role as Lincoln
Wasn't it rude of Oprah at 4:02 in his middle of speaking? Daniel Day-Lewis is so great that his words must be listened carefully when he is talking not to fool around.
"Well Oprah I became the president of the USA to get a better understanding of how they think, then I tried many voices on the people and found out which one commanded more respect"
This guy only makes a movie every 10 years because it's such a drain on his soul. He has to recover mentally. Decoupling these personalities that you deeply put in your head sounds a little rough.
If Daniel Day Lewis is cast as surgeon, he'll probably go through med school for preparing.

I love this man and his work. Yet I feel Oprah massively cheapens this interview by making it all about her. An interviewer should be heard, yes, but very briefly and only to ask a question. Elaboration is not necessary. You're never going to get that with Oprah. " me me me" Winfrey
Only 56k views!! This should have way more this man is a genius actor.
The masses have virtually no clue of what any of this is about. Of course millions watched the STUPOR Bowl tonight, which is NOTHING.
Richard Lawson the masses hurr urr
He's the Jimmy Hendrix of acting...
Seán Tripp just less heroin..
At least, that we know of..
soldierside365 thank god he never did requiem for a dream
I don't know about Hendrix. Day Lewis is incredible but Hendrix' s talent is other worldly.
Seán Tripp who the hell is Jimmy Hendrix?
Luke Skywalker see if you can figure out why I'm not?
Daniel Day-Lewis is the greatest actor to ever exist
Reading 100's of books to study a character?? This man really loves what he do.👍
His last performance, Phantom Thread, was an extraordinary work. I adored him in that. It was a delicious surprise.
Daniel Day is a great Actor 🎥🎬❤ and the Movie Lincoln one and only 🎉👍🎊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏.
Love the way he speaks. So eloquently and precise. His diction is amazing.
Tom Reedy With an obviously English accent? Yeah right.
His father was a poet 😊 Yes, so eloquent!
He should speak well his father was a poet laurete
There has never been a more amazing human being to listen and watch. He is one of the greatest actors of our generation.
You gotta love Daniel! He looks so different now! He's aged well.
I wish Oprah would let him talk; she’s such a bad interviewer.
Actually, she let him talk a lot. This was a good interview.
I have to say, he did an amazing job that made me watch the movie so many times. The movie wouldn’t have been that thrilling with out him playing the role of Lincoln. Thanks Danny, this piece was not just a movie, it is something to keep for generation to learn from it - both acting and the substance of it
God, he is beautiful... He's surely an INFJ, yes?
If nothing else he's most certainly a HSP
Ryan Gillis Completely agree. :)
What's an IFNJ?
Mary Mulroy Sorry, it's a personality type.
+Mary Mulroy Introversion, i(N)tuition, Feeling, Judgement
I love how DDLewis smiles and laughs he is so adorable and yet so badass with tatoos and earings
Oh my god !! This interview says it all...his sincerity and dedication towards making a movie is remarkable...kudos to Sir Daniel day Lewis...
He's British! All these years (since Last of the Mohicans) and I never knew......
John Miller he is Irish. He may have been born in England. But his soul is Irish and he has said you cant help where you are born.but you can correct it.
No such thing as a soul sweetheart. Kind of pathetic on your part, wanting and needing him to be Irish.
Brown Egg well sweetheart i dont doubt your unaware of yours. But the point been i dont want him to be Irish. He wants to be.
aine71 Fair enough.
Oprah needs to let him speak! I want to hear from Daniel!
I saw Gangs of New York when I was 14 and fell in love with him, god he's gorgeous
Did you see him in last of the mohicans? DAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMM
An astounding portrayal. This illustrates the intense preparation he undertakes . I think it also points to the quality of the writing . The other actors in the film all seemed to rise to the script. I didn't see a bad performance. Like the movie Lawrence of Arabia, when I think of Lincoln's time, now, in my mind I see the faces and images from this movie.
yo wassup kylo ren 3:06
I really hope one day Quentin Tarantino makes another western starring Daniel Day Lewis, Christoph Waltz & Benecio Del Toro !
He needs to play Jordan Peterson in a movie
Daniel Day Lewis will star in "The Jordan Peterson Story".
didn't get it,could you explain
@@RahulKumar-ng2gh The resemblance between Daniel Day Lewis and Jordan Peterson is strikingly similar.
@@AndresGarcia-yn2nq yup
I wish
Absolutely love him and everything he has ever done! A spectacular actor!

Uh, yes, Daniel. We do have an inner ear. It's used for balance.
He seems so genuine, sweet and a smart man! If only we had more people like him.
is it not somewhat ironic that here we have at Brit from London, portraying one of the great US presidents…he does such a realistic portrayal that we now call him an Oscar winner…brilliant job DDL.
why is this man so attractive
Ametaf Johora He' Irish♡
@@ximenavelasquez1550 he's English
He's actually both Irish and English. Born in England but of Irish decent on his father's side and holds a citizenship to both countries.
@@leilanilee6678 he is an Englishman, and states its many times in interviews
Seeing him in "The Age of Innocence"....I was mesmerized.
Nice of Oprah to listen to people's soul. Jimmy Kimmel just invites them to annoy people.
The happiest he’s ever looked in an interview!
Because it's a fellow actor interviewing him.
Yeah, I remember. The Obama speech in Chicago, and everyone adoring him for the Lincoln connection. His ad rep got a best advertising campaign of the year for his work on him. And Obama himself thanked him publicly saying how he, himself, was Daniel-Day Lewis.
Oprah is like my cousin who goes out of his way to use words he has zero knowledge of just to sound more intelligent.
" They killed my Da"
The Passion for the art and with such a humility of Daniel day Lewis is so inspiring.
Oprah wanted to be on Lewis level lol c'mon aint nobody on his level XD
He almost cried and thanked HER for describing the process of acting better than he ever could, what are you, in denial and delusional? Cuz she's fat and black or something?
Typical racist
It does not get any better than this, people. The greatest actor, not just of a generation, but of all time. Hands down.
Oh... So he went with an inner voice, he wasn't "possessed?" Good to hear an actor talking seriously about his craft!
I've been in love with Daniel since I was 14, now I'm 27. I love his movies . He so beautiful and amazing. How can you not love him.
2:17 Subconsciously jumping to the 'Lincoln' voice? :o :D
Oprah is so out-classed here it's not even funny. Best to stay with cheering stay-at-home moms and celebrity gossip.
Daniel have not improved nor loose any acting abilities, since " My Left Foot " its if he arrived fully formed. , like some mythical Irsh Bard , that shape shifts with the telling of every story ...... .....
DDL, my fellow INFJ personality. Such respect for this man!
He has decided to retire from acting..so sad
May be he will change his mind....some actors like Sean Conner continue to his death but as the comments say Daniel is one of the kind he reach for perfection
I saw an interview about The Last of the Mohicans he did a lot of running in the movie so he runned a lot for months he also made his own canoe
He was 32 and Eric Sweigh 22 they both did a lot of running but 10 years+ he had to run as fast as Eric
Long live Daniel day lewis...hes the best actor of all time ❤❤❤
Very annoying to watch Daniel Day Lewis, a man who notoriously gives very few interviews, getting constantly interrupted by Oprah who loves the sound of her own voice too much.
This man is incredibly well spoken. The voice is the fingerprint of the soul, just as we have an inner eye we have an inner ear. Deep stuff.
The Entire Movie set revolved around Daniel...Even Spielberg admits it and all the Actors...This was a SMART Move by Director and Cast...Daniel absolutely CRUSHED the role as Lincoln
'Fingerprint of the soul', Mr. Lewis just made me lost, and Winfrey appreciated it at the right moment. It's a collaboration!
Wasn't it rude of Oprah at 4:02 in his middle of speaking? Daniel Day-Lewis is so great that his words must be listened carefully when he is talking not to fool around.
Just like Steve jobs was to APPLE - DDL is to acting. They don’t come around too often.
"Well Oprah I became the president of the USA to get a better understanding of how they think, then I tried many voices on the people and found out which one commanded more respect"
As an foreigner, his portrayal was THE Abraham Lincoln for me.
What an artist!
This guy only makes a movie every 10 years because it's such a drain on his soul. He has to recover mentally. Decoupling these personalities that you deeply put in your head sounds a little rough.
