Apple announced the new iPhone 12 models on October 13, 2020 in a livestreamed Apple Event keynote. The new HomePod mini was announced along with the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. There's a lot to cover-from 5G mmWave to the cameras, to the new design, to the new MagSafe charging and accessories (cases, magnetic wallets, car mounts, etc), and a whole lot more! Let's get into it in this iPhone 12 First Look.

I don't think so. Apple uses far softer glass and far more scratch resistant coatings on the back because there is no display quality to protect, and it doesn't need to be as hard as the front. I keep my phone in CarPlay in such a way that it rubs off against sharp edges al over it's back. No scratches visible in 2.5 years.

Yeah I imagine they’re expecting this to be used as a charge-and-sync cable on their MacBooks and iMacs, rather than using a dedicated power brick. Personally I’m fine with that except that I don’t want to devote one of my two USB-C ports to just my iPhone (especially since I usually charge via Qi and sync via Wi-Fi). So I’ll probably just keep using my existing plethora of USB-A cables, and only use the C-to-lightning cable when I travel... if that’s ever a thing again.

I know with older iPhones, the XS for example, the iPhone would sometimes _default_ to the wide-angle lens at 2x instead of using the true telephoto lens because the wider aperture on the wide-angle lens performed better in low light. As a result, the wide-angle lens cropped at 2x would be sharper than the telephoto lens.

It's just a puck that has magnets like a wireless charger that just clips on the back of the phone.
The onlt reason Apple will remove the port is to improve security (by just not having any external access point at all) and improve water resistance

    • @johnatkinson1111
      @johnatkinson1111 4 года назад

@@Γιάννης-ξ8μ the iPhone also have magnets inside but you don’t need thick magnets to create a strong magnetic connection especially at neodymium level, lightning is likely going to stay even if it gets relegated to a hidden port like on the Apple Watch as they need a diagnostics port if there is serious os failure. The external lightning port likely won’t be removed until they have some feature they can implement that they could advertise as worth removing the port. Thank you for speaking some sense to the 120Hz ordeal. This is my thought exactly. People may not even realise how screens work, what refresh rate is etc. But people feel it, they naturally gravitate towards apple devices because they feel "smoother". I hear this all the time. This is due to apples excessive motion blur and great frame pacing in their GUI. A 120Hz screen will absolutely be the simplest, most effective way to improve that experience. It is something that EVERYONE will be able to appreciate instantly. It doesn't matter if you're tech savvy or not, you will notice it, it is extremely noticeable and hugely beneficial. I'd take it over 5G, dolby vision, a third camera, stainless steel frames etc. Saying that regular people don't care is just wrong.

Therefore, I was wondering if you know if I could purchase the phone in full from apple and just put in my Verizon sim card from my current iPhone without having to pay for 5G? Which would probably improve the battery life without the process of the phone going back and forth between 4G and 5G. If you don't currently know, please try and let me know once you receive the phones.

Apple is giving a USB-C to lightning cable with the new phones. Most people, including Android users, don’t have an adapter for that because, barring iPhone 11 Pro, none of the previous Apple devices came with a USB-C adapter...ever. So if you want to use the cable, you will have to buy a new adapter. And if you decide to charge with older adapter, it will be slow charging and you will be left with one useless cable (wow, such environment). Basically, they are forcing younto buy a new adapter one way or the other without passing on the benefits to customers.
And giving environmental reasons is straight up scummy by a company who is so much anti-repair. This is a SCAM and it needs to be called out.
Having said that, the iPhone 12 Mini was the best launch yesterday.

USB-A chargers can't handle the charging speeds that USB-C can. USB-C has also been on iPad and Macbook for over a year now, and both came with chargers. Not to mention tons of non-Apple devices use USB-C, and the iPhone is supposed to move to USB-C next year. It's a bit of a rip-off not getting one in the box, but the switch is way overdue.

@@Studio23Media You clearly didn’t get my point. I didn’t say USB-C is bad. Also, USB-A can handle charging fine. There are $200 android phones that come with 65w chargers with USB-A on the adapter. Also, most adapters come with USB-A so people are most likely going to have to buy them. And the iPhone doesn’t have a USB-C, it’s still lightning.

    • @Studio23Media

@@sush2142 No, USB-A can only handle up to 15w. Anything over that needs USB-C. You can get chargers that can put out 65w and have a USB-A port, but that USB-A port is not rated at 65w. And there are only a few phones that can handle 65w charging, definitely not a $200 phone. 😂

We all knew the absence of the power brick was coming, but it was rich that their justification for doing so was basically "Everyone has a power brick already" only to then announce the USB-C cable and all those "billions of power bricks out in the world" that they were bragging about just became useless

    • @sush2142

@@Studio23Media Clearly shows how ignorant people are. 65w chargers are normal in developing markets now. And those adapters have USB-A.

Love the new designs. Glad they are back to all metal and glass. But disappointed to not see a faster refresh rate

This is the same argument I have been making to the 5G evangelists. Since when do you need that much bandwidth on your phone? I never download "files" to my mobiles devices just stream content. Anymore than 15mbs is enough to watch RUclips and Netflix in the highest res for a phone.

I'm buying an iPhone pro 128G. I'm expecting Dolby Vision and 10-bit color and eventually raw images to make a huge difference in my everyday life. I'm not a pro working with photography or videography but I looked those concepts up and they look like game-changers.

I just want a big fast phone with an LCD screen... so I guess I have to get the iPhone 11, with the crappy resolution and no telephoto. This launch sucks for us who get sick by OLED flicker. Any hope for an SE Plus?

Hi Quinn. I think another difference between the standard iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are that the default storage is 64gb vs 128gb. Is that accurate?

Either you’re upgrading from an iPhone 5 or later and you already have a wall wart and compatible cable -no need to use the cable in the box,
Or you’re upgrading from an android phone (Galaxy S8 and later) and you already have a USB-C wall wart - then you just need something to connect it to the Lightning port.
Every RUclipsr thinks this is confusing, but I can’t see who is missing out.

Love your videos. Your personality is fun. I have upgraded iPhones every year since the 4s but this may be the year i end that tradition. Honestly having an 11 pro is the maximum size I’m comfortable with using. The 11 pro max was just too big. So, as you can imagine, the 6.1 or 6.7 inch choices are a bit... massive lol. Also making the 12 pro trash in comparison to the max and not worth the update from a regular 12 it’s making me re-evaluate tomorrows preorder decision. Maybe’ll say screw it this year and not get one. Thoughts?
