Unless you really care about the camera. The overall experience of the iPhone feels the same. Moved up from iPhone 7 to try the 12 but I am just going to just return it and get a Xr. I am not a big camera of video buff so I rather save that $400+ and buy a refurb Xr. Sure the screen and the responsiveness is faster but overall for the price and what I get I am not overly impressed. Ever since Apple moved to 64 bit processing in the iPhone 5s. The overall UI experience isn’t much to complain about. I mean those milliseconds of app load times or internet speeds isn’t going to kill me.

But this time across the whole industry, so holding the phone wrong isn't an Apple exclusive feature anymore. Damn, the iPhone 4 was way ahead of its time!
Yea, I'm gonna stick with my X for another year. If they aren't gonna remove the notch any time soon, the least they could do is add a high refresh rate display next year.
I know people are really critiquing the battery life of the iPhone 12 but I ordered one on launch day and have been using it for almost 2 weeks now and I see no problems with the battery. I can get through the whole day with just under half of the battery left and according to a few tests performed on RUclips, the iPhone 12 is actually doing much better in terms of overall battery life tests compared to the 11 or XR

It’s funny that the stainless smudges and looks filthy, but in actuality has anti-microbial properties not present in aluminum making it ‘cleaner’ than the aluminum chassis on other phones.

I went for the 12 Pro and I'm not regretting it. I prefer the finish of the back glass (and colour) over the regular iPhone 12. Also while it only has an extra 2GB, it makes a huge difference with apps not closing in the background on me (which has to be the biggest gripe with iPhone for me, Android for 10 years doesn't close my apps in the background)
Hmm you missed a few big things. Like lidar improves focusing, the 3rd camera improves deep fusion, and Apple Raw is coming soon. This is why I got pro today after thinking about it for two weeks. I know you joked about getting a Sony a7 but that's a $5000 camera

I'm actually excited for the mini. I've been waiting for that model ever since the 6. I kinda got used to the 6 size but only because the screen was bigger... now, an iphone about the size of the 5 but that is ALL SCREEN? sign me up!
Nice and small, the 12 mini does look incredibly good. They should have made the base model start with 128GB of storage though - just means many people will be coughing up extra money. iCloud is good, but there is nothing quite like local storage on your phone.
Unbias and well-researched journalism is so spectacular to have nowadays, especially when it comes to tech. I see so many people just drool over any new apple product like they're willing to put up with anything.
I did the same thing when I looked at my stainless steel band and was like “the fingerprints aren’t...too bad....I made a good purchase right....RIGHT?!?!”
It’s just such an underwhelming update. I don’t get why people go crazy about the design changes when the front still looks the same. 5G came at such a great expense, i’d rather take a 11 Pro over the new 12 (pro) for battery life alone.
And that’s exactly what I did lol, I saved myself a ton of money and got the 11 pro for the significantly better battery life and I’ve been pretty happy with it
I do not get that argument as you can turn 5g off even if you do not use Apple's dynamic 5g. Battery life tests indicate the iPhone 12 is as good as the iPhone 11, and the Max has not been released yet which will be better than 90% of phones out there. The design changes are great, flat screen and classic look. Most people use a case so the fingerprints are not relevant. The front looks the same as does every Samsung phone for the last few years apart from them moving the pin-hole to middle or sides. Until under-display camera tech is available Apple will not change as they have features in the notch, front stereo speaker, infra-red, 3D mapping and camera.
@@andyH_England the battery size is physically smaller and as such various people have talked about how it lasts a shorter amount of time than the 11 pro. Also when you’re in a country like mine where the 12 pro costs like 1600 bucks it’s camera improvements look a whole lot less worth it lol. Also I don’t care about phone design as long as it’s not absolutely hideous which the 11 pro is by no means
I wish I could easily go for 11 pro instead of 12 pro, but in my country the 11 pro 256gb cost much more than 12 pro 128gb🤷🏻♂️ (not worth it at all to get 11 pro😢) Not forgetting that battery optimization is still kinda bad for 11 pro on iOS 14 based on the many online comments I read (not sure how true is that) Btw I’m still using a Xs and I do crave for more battery life😢
I opted for the 12 Pro. I know it’s trivial but going from my iPhone 8+ with two cameras to the 12 with two cameras seemed lame. Not to mention that LiDar sensor only helps when it comes to better photos and videos especially at night which I haven’t been able to take great pictures in with the 8+. So I’m looking forward to that.
I use to listen to all these reviews and considered their advice before buying. Nowadays, I listen to them and then do exactly the opposite of the advice. It tends to work for me lately., e.g. "Don't buy the iPhone 12 Pro!". Went ahead and ordered an iPhone 12 Pro LOL
I have a 7 Plus that I've had for the past 4 years. I'm upgrading this year to the 12 Pro Max. It will be a dramatic upgrade compared to what I have currently, and I would like to get the phone that has the reasons you listed for not getting the Pro - the third camera (I'm a photographer on the side so i take a ton of photos with my DSLR and appreciating having the telephoto on the phone plus the larger sensor), the additional RAM, the Lidar, the ability to edit RAW images later this year. So it's a no brainer for me - yes, it's expensive but I'll be keeping this one for a while. Now my only decision is which color! They all look great to me (if you haven't seen them in person I would recommend that - the pictures/videos don't do them justice). Anyway, just my two cents. I really enjoy your channel and content!
I used both and I am in love with the pro. Maybe mine was faulty but the 12 was over heating. Love the feel of the pro and the screen looked nicer. Battery seem better in the pro. For me the square edges is more comfortable to hold.
Wow he really made this whole incredible review for the most common decision people will be having to make, knowing that he's choosing the Mini either way.
I like hearing his opinions when it comes to practicality of devices but I’m noticing I tend to SUPER disagree with his aesthetic opinions. That blue looks awesome. Also on an Apple watch review I recall him saying the 44mm watch is too big and looks ugly on your wrist but, again I couldn’t disagree more when I tried it on.
I think you have missed a couple of things, Quinn. Firstly, the camera system is noticeably improved for a year over year upgrade. Both the ultra-wide and the front facing camera now support Deep Fusion and Night Mode, which makes a huge difference, at least in my experience. The Dolby Vision HDR video also looks more realistic and much more detailed but also kills the battery much quicker. I’ve seen some mentioning worse battery life than the 11 Pro on regular usage, and I haven’t noticed any coming from one. I’m still getting like 7+ hours of screen-on time, and I even play a couple of demanding games. I believe Apple did not implement higher refresh rate displays because of some supply chain issues, given the pandemic and they quite literally needing millions of the necessary hardware. Lastly, this iPhone feels so secure in my hand that it’s the first iPhone I’m using without a case since the 5S.✌🏼
I’ve been taking iPhone 12 Pro night mode pictures, and they are _astounding_ ; I love how much I can edit them and make them look phenomenal. I went from a 8 Plus, and the camera was the main reason for upgrading; I am not disappointed at all
I also love XsMax's shiny glossy back as well as 3d touch its faster than haptic touch.....Overall design of XsMax is my favourite out of all! Im very sad they discontinued the production of those (
@@fullfire0 The little perks that apple gets you with its ecosystem are nice, i still have my other phone as a 2nd one. Apple feels better to use though
Apple needs to figure out how to get a bigger battery in there before giving us 120hz. Honestly, I (and most humans) can do without 5G... drop that big bulky modem, no one cares about 5G, increase the battery size, give us the 120hz and keep the damn port!!!! Also, mag safe is fucking abysmal. Charges slow as shit compared to Apples 2m cable, destroys your beautiful leather cases making them look all homelessy and neglected, and isn't really a wireless charger cause you still have to pry the damn thing on and off.
I completely agree about everything you say! Thanks for sharing this. My two cents: They went with the wrong choices (necessary/possible or not). This phone should have had new looks (as is greatly done), 120 hertz screen and no notch. Then upgrade the phone next year with 5G, Mag-Safe and HDR. That would have been perfect! So after not upgrading last year, I still aint upgrading this year... Thumbs up for looks though. The 12 looks stunning! They went back to beauty, now get back to practical beside that and we can proudly call it a real Apple again. And please Apple... put the on/of button on another place, where there is no button on the other side! Why did they change it after the iPhone 5 in the first place? From the first use of my iPhone 6 through the iPhone X I'm using today, I'm dealing with screenshots every time I want to lock my screen. TERRIBLE! Am I the only person with this problem?
I was deliberating between the 12 mini and the 12 pro, and had preordered the 12 pro for the supposedly better camera. But this video convinced me to cancel the preorder and wait for the mini instead. Both seem like good upgrades from the XR (at least as far as the camera is concerned) and I’d much rather have a phone I can comfortably use in one hand again.
My iPhone 10 broke, and now I’m on an iPhone 7. After this video, it seems like it would be smarter to upgrade to an iPhone 11 Pro instead of any 12? Thanks!
Your reviews are always comprehensive and fair, but never boring. Once again, I don’t think anyone else does reviews as well as you do. Technical, but not overly so. Another great review!

Great video, but I disagree about the speakers. When I work I sometimes just chat on speaker mode. Speaker is definitely an important factor to me. I would’ve loved a comparison on that.
I feel a bit bad for all the people in the comments saying they just bought the 12 pro. All phones essentially do the same thing. If it makes you feel good then it's the right phone for you.
Please tell me is it worth the upgrade? I've been rocking my s9 plus since it came out and I really need an upgrade. Been thinking about getting the 12 pro since the base models are 128 gb. I really wanna know if people would recommend the 12 pro to me.
@@jaysquared2061 It depends on your preferences the s9 plus has a better display so if your used to that then idk maybe get a android but if you want good battery life I would suggest the 11pro although it's last gens iPhone the battery life on it is a beast and better then the 12 if you also just want to get a iPhone then just get the regular 12 its basically the same as the pro if you don't mind not having extra features which you most likely won't use but to answer your question would I recommend it if you have the money and just want a iPhone then yes go for it the only downside is the battery and the fact that since your moving to a lower resolution screen you will have to adjust to it but if you don't care which phone you get then just get a android like OnePlus or another Samsung

The HDR argument is quite poor to be honest. Apple has to start delivering HDR at some point in time in order to make it a reality for the future when the iPhone 12 Pro one day will be considered an older gen phone.
he isnt saying its a bad feature, he is saying it isnt a reason to buy the device yet. Essentially, its cool that its there (pretty sure most recent samsung S devices have HDR Displays too) but dont buy the phone because of it, because you likely wont use the feature outside of watching netflix, As for shooting HDR, its only useful if you have an HDR display you intend to watch it back on and makes it awful to watch on anything else (the rest of your families phones or tvs).
It’s a very poor argument indeed. You can also play the HDR videos on your HDR TV... it’s not just the iPhone. In fact as a family most videos I record we get to see them on the Apple TV.. also all family have iPhones which has HDR too so I share it with them they can also see it. Don’t care about sharing to social media. At least he should have commented on HDR 60fps (iPhone 12 pro) vs 30fps (iPhone 12), which is what that video was about anyway.
@@shadowtransfix except Dolby vision video will playback only on Dolby vision TV's, which are very expensive and they also require an update because iphones shoot in a new Dolby vision format
@@justffff it’s not Dolby vision that makes a TV expensive.. there are many factors like the panel type, brightness, size, etc.. I’m not professional photographer yet HDR recording feature is of great value to me and many others.. also his argument is bad because all the new iPhones come with Dolby Vision recording anyway.. so what’s the point to bring it up unless to compare 60fps to 30fps, which he didn’t..
Isn't that the case with _all_ phones with 120Hz displays? I mean, why would the iPhone be so different, if looking specifically at the 120Hz display, or the lack thereof?
@@slashtiger1 No, my friend has a Samsung Galaxy S20. It does 120Hz and it lasts him for the whole day. The difference though, is that Samsung increased the battery size. If Apple had included 120hz on the iPhone 12 line-up it would be a disaster. Between the smaller battery, a power hungry 5G chip and the 120Hz screen, you’d be lucky to squeak out 4-5 hours.
@@lenardz If they'd do it in the way they're doing it with iPad, that doesn't have to be the case. As you may know, on the iPad, the refresh rate is dynamically adjusted between 0Hz (when displaying a static image or a page of a book, for example) and the maximum of 120Hz when content demands it. If they'd apply the same technique on the iPhone, that wouldn't _have_ to imply such a drastic negative effect on battery life.

Can you talk about the problem, that only apple can repair these iPhone 12´s, because the phone only accepts it´s own parts for regular use? I use my iPhone 5s and love to see the same design this year. I drop it a lot, so I´m worried about the glas in the 12.
I can’t believe how many videos there are hating on the 12 Pro. I had an 11 and loved the size but I really wanted a telephoto lens so the 12 Pro is perfect for me. In an Otterbox Symmetry case the 12 Pro is physically smaller than the 11 with the same screen size which was a nice bonus.
Are you saying the 12 pro battery dont last a whole day ? Or is it because you use it a lot? I ordered the 12 pro max so hopefully the battery will be better and last a whole day for my needs.
I did a speed test today at my desk. Holding still I tested 5G speeds and got around 90mbps down. Switched it to LTE and got virtually the same speed. Switched it to “5G Auto” and got...wait for it...6mbps. 6. Not a typo. Something is wrong with 5G Auto.
I don’t think apple can really make the iPhone that ground-breaking anymore. I think the issue with 120Hz is that apple wanted it to be perfect before they released it. And I feel like the iPhone 12 is just the iPhone 11 but better (and still only slightly). I would still say the iPhone 11 series was one of the best upgrades in iPhone history.
I just got the 12 Pro (upgraded from the X), and I will say the cameras are the main reason I upgraded. They definitely don’t disappoint. As far as normal use and snappiness, it feels the same to me. just put it in this way, changes are always coming, better, or worse. To customer, it is definitely not ideal, but to Apple, and its stakeholder is a very good value move. i would say ripping off customer is indeed true if you are solely relying on Apple, but this is an open market, if you don't like it, you can choose a wide range of products. In the end, is a matter of choice. Apple is indeed very responsible to its stakeholder, employee, and the environment, and the price is not a big deal, is a reasonable move i would say. Market will punish Apple if this move really a big deal.
This is a great move for the environment. It would be great if move companies thought it this way but as equally important is for the customers to think more about how we can together create less waste.
Bars, my friend.

I get awesome battery life from my BLU G90
I thought so too. First I heard someone saying it was ugly.
Quinn has the worst taste ever existing on a human being
Especially the blue aluminum frame. They nailed it. The back though, not my favourite blue tonality, but absolutely not ugly for my taste.

My two cents: They went with the wrong choices (necessary/possible or not). This phone should have had new looks (as is greatly done), 120 hertz screen and no notch. Then upgrade the phone next year with 5G, Mag-Safe and HDR. That would have been perfect!

Weird, I'm seeing 300Mbps in Denver.
I don’t think apple can really make the iPhone that ground-breaking anymore. I think the issue with 120Hz is that apple wanted it to be perfect before they released it.
I like many people have collected a drawer full of cables and wires I no longer need. I applaud the move.
@@saufai74 corporations don't care about the environment. They did this so they can save money and sell their new wireless chargers separately.

Omg i need help pls read. So i am still using my iphone 6s with 16gb and 70% battery life. I have having my debut on May next year. And I want to upgrade my phone. What should i get? Iphone 12 pro, 12 pro max or should i just wait for the iphone 13 next year?? PLS SOMEONE ANSWER I JUST NEED HELP AND I DONT KNOW WHAT SHOULD I CONSIDER IN BUYING:(((
If you want one of the new iPhones, get the iPhone 12. If you want the Pro, get the Pro MAX because the regular one is not worth it and it's only $100 less than the MAX.
@@ChopperChad Then get the iPhone 12 not the 12 Pro. As much as I love small phones, I can't recommend the Mini because it lacks the battery life of the bigger models.
Check out the photography comparison between the iPhone models and Samsung 20 Ultra released today on another channel. Do the test yourselves and you'll see why it's not worth upgrading if your main reason is the camera.
At least I can measure the height of my child with the LiDAR sensor. Seriously though for me it’s about future proofing, and the extra ram on the pro Will be worth it three years later
isn't the RAM undisclosed? I heard all 12's have the same 6GB of RAM. If you can clarify for me (since I really don't know) I'd really appreciate it!
Normal people don't care about 5G but from knowing some normal people, they don't care about high refresh rate displays either. They barely notice that stuff in my experience. They just want their apps to load faster, charge to last longer, screen to be brighter and phone to be nice looking and durable.
i´ll wait for the 120Hz IPhone 13
Except that’s what everyone said about the iPhone 11 Pro... and the iPhone 12 Pro...
I wish I could, but my 8 is really starting to show its age.
@@phantom1100 cries in 7 32GB
@@dhruvakhera5011 I have the 6S 64GB. I need an upgrade. I wanted to upgrade to a "PRO" model but this iPhone 12 pro doesn't feel like a pro to me. Hopefully the 13 or 12S PRO would be a true Pro.
@@HiznardoDiaz yea actually the 12 pro max will give you more phone for the money than the 12 pro
Good content man. Small tip if you could squeeze all this information in under 8 minutes that would be awesome.
I've always bought the base storage and haven't ever really had a problem. My storage usage has grown slowly along with the base storage size. I had mid 20gb usage when i had 32gb and now im in the 30gig range with a 64gb XS. I wouldn't kick 128gb base storage out of bed but for someone who doesn't take millions of photos and streams their content 64 is pretty alright
116 Gb used of my 256 11 Pro Max here... have no idea, must be photos and videos..
The one thing that I really hope other manufacturers follow is the flat glass for the exact reason you said. Screen protectors will no longer just stick to the curved edges leaving an air gap. Were back to flat all sticky screen protectors that you can break 12 of them for before even messing up your own screen.
Honestly i don’t care, I appreciate your opinions and your helping lots of people I’m sure, but I really just want the Lidar scanner, better camera and premium design.
Yup
