Very good job, great idea. I think with the jam nuts you could back then off a little and put some blue Loctite on the threads and then tighten them up again, this would hold them in place and they wouldn't work free over time. Great idea, thanks for posting.
@@BrenoAutoGarage I have a new 2022, I wound up ordering the lowered kickstand and even had to cut and weld that after I lowered it quite a bit front and back. Wish I had thought about what you did first, would have been easier and more adjustable. Thanks for the video.

Awesome video im about to do this mod. Thanks! Just fyi, you could have made that tap work. Need to tighten the vise as much as possible (maybe put a pipe on the handle for more leverage) than use a ton of crc cutting oil and leverage on the tap (with a tap wrench). Sometimes you can only go 1/2 turn at a time than you reverse to break the chips free and occasionally back the tap out all the way to clear more chips. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the comment, I think you are right on both fronts. I was trying to drive the tap too far each time with the wrong oil. But a better tap would have handled the abuse better without dulling so fast (possibly giving me time to correct my technique before dying). That small vice would have been a problem regardless though, it is a cheap hand me down with dull teeth. I have a pipe vice now which would have been much better (I got it because of this experience, but I’ve yet to need it). Good luck on your kickstand, mine has been great ever since, good height and has not loosened over time.
It was the stock standard length kickstand that came with the DR650. You could also modify an OEM DR650 short kickstand to be longer, just don’t cut out as much in the middle. If you wanted to buy one already made I would search “adjustable length kickstands” for your model.
Sounds like a challenge, let me know how it goes. Drilling a straight hole in each end would be a challenge, but once the hole is made I bet it would tap easily compared to steel.

I'm trying to do this on a Yamaha yz250! Problem is that my kickstand is solid aluminum, and not round.

So I need to buy a chopsaw and blades? I can buy an adjustable side stand already made on eBay for £16..that was a waste of 10 mins of my life
Not really, I think Soupy's adjustable stand is over $200 on Amazon.
