Man alive, how things change! I remember the Big Texas Steak house but it certainly wasn't so big or had all that extra 'stuff' around it. Back during a time when I was a police officer for the Amarillo PD my 'beat' was on Amarillo Blvd. (Highway 66) I had several jobs there...1st job was a Country Western DJ for a little station located off Hwy. 66; 2. a police officer; 3. Greyhound bus driver. That reminds of the two times I've heard you mispronounce a New Mexico town called Tucumcari, NM. Anyway, the natives pronounce the town "Two-Come-Carry. I always announced the arrival of my bus entering this berg with a story about how the town was named. It appears you really enjoyed your trip through the Long Star state. I enjoyed your video showing my old stompin' ground.
This challenge was 25 dollars back in the early 70's. As a kid I thought I could accomplish it. My parents paid the 25 bucks and off I went trying to defeat it. I finished off the salad, shrimp coctail and I believe the rolls, then I had my eyes set on that steak, medium well with a taste that melted in my mouth. cut and eat, cut and eat, cut and eat. I was going to finish this challenge and had visions of the local TV stations interviewing me and then thought maybe the President would invite me to the White House and be presented with a medal of valor for finishing this task. I kept cutting and eating and watching the steak get smaller with every bite, I was just a few bites away from that grand prize, when I decided to unfold the steak and realized I had only eaten a quarter of the steak. My visions of victory went away in an instant and I was reduced to just another sucker who was lured into trying this challenge.
"when I decided to unfold the steak?" What a load of BS. The steak has never been "folded". Your a liar....
How does one unfold a steak? What does that even mean?
Good story telling, but fiction, or non fiction?😁🤷♂👍😎✌🗽
With inflation, it probably is $150 dollar steak.
@@TOM-C. It is true
Coggins is a blood test cert that says your horse if free of Equine Anemia.
Horses can get it from blood sucking insects like mosquitoes. You can't put the infected horse in any paddock or barn with any other horses. BTW there is no cure for this virus!
The 72 ounce steak, brings back memories of the movie, The Great Outdoors and the old "96'er".
That's what I said!
Great movie
Wow! 24 minutes and 48 seconds flashed by in the blink of an eye. That's true testament to Sarah Jane's wonderful storytelling. Thank you.
It's not just you. I said "Michael Jackson" same time you did. LOLOL
Ditto

That did look like Michael jackson . I thought that before you said anything. I know a hay freaknwhen i see one !
I said Micheal as soon as you showed the picture before you mentioned it
My gosh girl….what HAVE’NT you done?????? You are AMAZING!!!! Stay single…. NO ONE could keep up with you! You have all of us!!!!
Molly Schuyler, a competitive eater, made headlines in 2014 when she devoured a 72-ounce steak at the Big Texan Steak Ranch in just under five minutes. She ate 3 -72-ounce challenges in under 20 min in 2015. Needless to say, she is the record holder.
13 pounds of steak😂
We would drive by this place almost every year on the way to see our grandparents in Texas. My mom would never stop no matter how much me and my sister begged. I finally got to see the inside because of your video.
Drove by the Big Texan several times in my life and never stopped. Now I don't need to!
Thanks Wonderhussy!😊
You Vegan
Am a Natural Born Texan and have eaten there many times. IT IS WELL WORTH STOPPING BY. The steaks are great!
Natural Born Texan? Meaning?
So my question is then what would be an unnaturally born Texan?
@@haulingproduce173 born the regular way, through the hooha , not a cesarean? IDK
I guessed he was conceived through normal missionary position and not artificial insemination. 🤔
That long time viewer who was so odd was HATE watching you! I had a guy do a similar thing where he followed me around telling me what was wrong with me but also wanted to go somewhere with me. Nothing could prepare you meeting that. You’re a hard working, no nonsense ball of fire! You are an inspiration to a lot of us chickens 🐓
Wonderhussy can even make a visit to a steakhouse into an adventure! Yeehaw! :-)
I stayed and ate here in '92 or '93 when I was 20. Me and two of my friends were driving from Virginia to Las Vegas to see a Grateful Dead concert, we stopped here and got a room and with the room we got three vouchers that were for like a 5 dollar steak dinner. I remember the big floor show and music and stuff. It was like the first big road trip of my life. trip
Wonderhussy is a riot. Watching her is the most fun you can have on youtube.
8 ounce Rib-Eye, house salad, baked potatoe, mushrooms, and tea. Can’t go wrong with that.
Well golly Wonderhussy....great to see out there deep in the heart ❤️ of "Texas!" Well howdy 🤠 partner! Glad you enjoyed your stay at the Texan Ranch. Interesting place... that's a bucket list item for me. 👍 I'll also would pass on eating the 72oz. steak 🥩 but there seems to be quite a selection of other options one can chow down on! Looks like a real fun place to go and kick up your heels or boots 👢 and have a good time!! I hope you picked up something for yourself at the gift shop? Another cool video Sarah. 👍👏 Thanks for stopping by the Lone Star State! 🇺🇲🇨🇱 Off to your next destination! Happy trails to you! 🤠🥩🐴🐂👍
Driven past this place several times over the years, but never had time to stop in. Superb mini tour/experience!
Another great Wonderhussy video! I really do appreciate all of your videos and your personality! Don't ever stop being you!
Been there many times, and still haven't tried the rattlesnake.
The 72oz steak dinner used to be $1.00 per ounce, if not finished in an hour. The absolute record holder is a lady named Molly, about Sarah's size, and she's done 3 of them in less than 3 hours (think it was more like 2 1/2)!
EDIT!
Boy, was I wrong!
120 lb. Molly Schuyler finished three 72 oz. steak dinners IN TWENTY MINUTES!!!
Don't believe me? Look her up, and you'll even find video proof.
Oh - and The Big Texan is NOT a tourist trap, they really do have good food at decent prices. Once in a while their bakery has a deal: buy 1 lb. of fudge, and they give you another lb. for free.
Dang
The fudge,you say.
@@WarrenhFrye 🤣
@@Britcarjunkie My dad was a long haul truck driver and we stopped there in the 80's , and 10 year old me actually ate the rattlesnake! It was actually pretty bland...lol
If I remember right? This is what this women does for a living. She has her list of events around the country -- I think this contest got her 5 grand.
Right there at the end of the video she fought the gag reflex.. Wow She ate 3 /72 oz. That women really is liking her meat 😜I heard a story of 3 Johnsons. Humm..
Great video. Very well done. The Big Texan is a a tourist destination no doubt about it. Been there several times. Steaks are great and everyone should make it a bucket list item. I drive a truck and the limos are not for high rollers, they will come to the truck stops and pick you up, great service they offer. Every time we visit the place it is crowded with foreign tourist. Great place and lotsa fun. Sorry you had to dine alone. It is best experienced with friends.
I waited 22 minutes for you to get to that delicious steak! Well worth it. Keep the great videos coming.
Love your vids WH! Watched your post about the dude you spoke with on the phone.... don't ever change! Way too many people dig you! I love your knowledge & whimsy.
Tried that once with a co worker in the 90's. I couldn't get it done but my co worker did. He beat the clock with less than a minute to go. You have more fixins that have to be ate too so it is not just a big chunk of meat. I've ate rattlesnake there too, taste like chicken.
another great ad for the TX steak ranch, $$77 sounds like a bargain, not to mention under $$3.00 for gas!! GOD BLESS AMERICA
Would enjoy seeing you narrate one of your blogs in a busy restaurant.😊 Big salute to Texas for still having the Gideon’s in their hotel rooms.
Hey Sarah that was great. No one can present a roadside attraction as well as you. So much fun. Thanks
Micheal Jackson was my first thought also.🤣🤣😂
Mine too.
Same here.
Where I live there's a pub with a sign outside saying " Free Beer Tomorrow " , "but that tomorrow" never comes .
Bartender says yeah that’s right- you go back the next day and he points to the sign, “ oh no, that’s tomorrow”!
There’s a seafood restaurant that has a similar joke here. On the wall, it says free beer on Monday. They happen to be closed on Monday.
I did joke with my server one time about that when I went there on Tuesday.
I said that I came by for free beer Monday and noticed they were closed so could they honor the special that day.
It got a great laugh out of her.
Now I'm hungry. Thanks Wonderhussy.
This is one hell of an incredible place Sarah. That gift shop was an experience to behold. $170 for real Texas longhorns.
Bargain priced. Hope you got a pair of those pink six shooters with holsters for your cowgirl outfit. ;) Great ending!
That was so much fun going on the steak dinner trip with you ! One of your best videos of all!!!!
That was one of the funniest most colorful enjoyable videos I've seen about a restaurant. What a steak ranch and you sure made those rolls, steak and the old fashioned look mmm mmm mmm delicious🔥☺️
Great video Sarah!
Looks like you had a good time there!
I hope to stop by there one day.
Thanks for bringing us along.
My next door neighbor in Concord, Massachusetts had a 1959 Studebaker. 4-door, 3 speed manual shift on the column.
He was in the CIA.
My next door neighbor in CO had a Studebaker station wagon...
Great place to eat and I LOVE Texas
NEVER book ANY hotels on 3rd party sites because you will ALWAYS get the crappiest rooms with NO chance of upgrade because the hotel has to pay the 3rd party website a fee. On top of that EVERY "Mom and Pop" Route 66 type motel HATES it when folks do not book direct with them. And this place is that type of motel.
Have eaten there twice on road trips....it's a must do, and their food is great too. Never have tried the 72oz challenge, and never will because I like being alive. Thanks for featuring it!
We stayed in a front room when we drove Route 66. Every Texas stereotype seemed to be represented somewhere in the room.
Just thinking the same, although i've never actually been to any of the 50 states, so the stereotype lurks large in the imagination, 2294. I'm peckish now !!
Steak.. and a show!! Thanks Sarah Jane'!!!!
The 72oz steak cost $72 if you don't eat the entire meal in 1 hr.
+ Tip
Worth it!
I can eat on the leftovers for 2 days 😂😂😂
What’s the cut of meat they give you.?
Thanks for the info, I was wondering about that, too. $72 seems like a great price for what you get.
@AbleHammer I don't know. I was only answering Sara's question on how much the meal cost. Found the info on their website.
Remember the movie," the Great Outdoors"?
What a flipping fun place!!! My parents were always taking a road trip somewhere and this place reminds me of those fun times. 😊
We were there a couple weeks ago on our way back to Olympia Wa from our great eclipse road trip,we rode in that limo!
We stayed at the Big Texan RV Ranch a few miles away which had the free Limo Shuttle that had Longhorns to the Resteraunt!
They ran every hour till 9pm
No to the 72oz, I got the Sirloin as you did
Great experience!
You people know how to live, sounds fun 😊
Thank you so much for profiling this super fun place! Wish you had stuck around the restaurant long enough for us to see if the Ukrainian fellow made it through the 72 oz steak and got it for free! Would have loved to see how he felt with that much beef in his belly…😊
I was really hoping she would, too.
that Old Fashion ice cube really had you Ballin
Greetings from Flagstaff on Route 66. My Dad and I went to and stayed at The Big Texan on a Route 66 Roadtrip with my Dad in 1994. Skipped the 72 oz steak for an 8 oz Petit Filet (before I became a vegetarian in 2000). My favorite things were the Texas/shaped swimming pool at the motel and the Texas-shaped waffles for breakfast in the morning
I lived in Amarillo from 74 to 1990 when my dad past away to Iowa now Minnesota sister still lives there she was born in Los Angeles I was born here in Minneapolis love you videos and your so pretty
And now my sister thinks your family she was in memorial hospital. L.a. you were right
Born I mean
Contestants dip the buns in water and squeeze out the water before eating. The idea is it helps it slide down their throat.
We appreciate your content and think you're a great person. If you ever get down, you turn that frown upside down. Don't worry, be happy 😁
I the early 90s, my former wife and I had just moved back to the US from a tour in Europe.
Our 1st weekend, I drove us 100 miles from Clovis NM, to Amarillo just to have a steak at the Big Texan.
Does she order a steak?????
NOPE!!!! She gets the chicken...
In March I was making my way back to San Antonio from Wyoming and a good halfway stop is Amarillo. Got a room at the BTSR. Under $100 the room well appointed. My room was at the end of the false fronts, right next to the 1st Limo.
The BTSR has a lot of good memories for me. My Dad stopped there in Christmas of 81 on our way to Boulder City, NV.
You are an absolute top notch entertainer. I love your videos and your sense of humor. You always take my troubles away and make me belly laugh. Thanks for all your hard work in producing great content. You are one of a kind. You have made me a fan of your channel. Right on.
Sarah, the Peacemaker was a revolver made by Colt Firearms. Wyatt Earp carried one.
The Limos will come pick you up for free and take you back as well. I'm a trucker and they come pick me up at the truck stop all the time. I love that place
Do you know the cut for the 72oz challenge?
@@AbleHammer I have no idea. I usually sit at the bar and eat steak tacos
I was hoping you'd go there, when I watched your Cadillac Ranch video. I went there in May 2018 as part of my last road trip that used all hotels and AirBNBs. Since then, my road trips have been primarily car camping, except for visiting people, or having family fly in somewhere to join me. Recently made my 2nd trip to the A-12 crash site, which started out as a cool, challenging place to find and visit due to my interests. But it has turned into an area I treasure for how isolated it is, how I've never seen anyone even pass by the area when I'm there, even way less visited than anything around Rachel or Tikaboo Peak. Which is another area whose attraction started out being the Area 51 proximity, and ended up being that there is such a variety of great places to be within that otherwise randomly selected area on a map that I'd have never have gone to if not for the initial reason that ended up not mattering much.
At BTSR, I had the 18oz "Dallas" version of the steak dinner, and it was excellent. I didn't rush, but still easily finished it on pace to finish the challenge dinner in an hour. But I noticed that people doing the challenge did not maintain a linear pace. They went gangbusters, then "hit the wall" sitting with their head in their hands trying not to puke. I recall that my waitress was named Mariah, a fine, hard-working young lady who I hope did well like your own waitress.
At the time, I think it was $72 if you didn't finish it. I debate whether I'll ever make the attempt, and whether it would in some be an evil waste of food, a medical risk, a sign of vanity, all of the above, or just something everyone should try once.
Many of your videos have me thinking I'd be happy to be on a particular adventure with you. Of those, most seem like they'd be a fun adventure, chance to share stories, compare interests, and gain perspective on each other's unique lives. Not many make me feel like it would be at all date-like, but this one did. You're usually a bit hyper and focused, but this time seemed like you were really relaxed and ready to put your head on someone's shoulder or vice versa. Reminded me of a first date a decade or so ago, where a woman who seemed very trusting yet a bit wary of leading a guy on, said "I'd like to relax in my hammock with you, if you're able to not read too much into that."
I was a big fan of Takeru Kobayashi. He revolutionized the hot dog contest. The professional eaters now, have much less individuality, they are like maybe 3 different classes of eating robots, following an algorithm.
Good job on both videos about Texas - Cadillac Ranch & the Big Texan Steak Ranch. As a fellow Texan, I was very pleased with how you treated us. Thanks Wonderhussy!
Driver by this place for decades but not been in since 1970s or so. Great job as always you are a great story maker/teller.
This was one of the funniest videos you've ever produced.
Thank you for what you do you are a true sweetheart
Thank you I thought you were going to try it 😂😂😂 however fitting in jeans got me rolling 😂😅
Adda gal.. Traved from San Diego to Wisconsin racing cars and stopped there a few time.. Cheers love from Spain.
👍👍👍👍👍😃, Your meal looked amazing............and another fun visit to an interesting place. I'll be moving shortly back to north east Texas and will have to visit that place.
To spend the week with you would be a dream come true. Thank you for taking us through your adventures throughout the years they are so entertaining adventurous and fun.
I have been there. That place is really good. It’s not just the tourist trap gimmick. It really is good quality food. I love it.
Hope you took the trip to Palo Duro Canyon & Goodnight as you leave Amarillo, Texas. That is come great history and a incredible place. Charles Goodnight was a real life hero in the panhandle. My grandfather actually worked for him between 1911 and 1918. Enjoy your travels.
Tried to get in there in March 2023, when we were driving cross country from Massachusetts to California. It was standing room only, even in the late afternoon, so we had to eat elsewhere.
Fun video. Liking your road trip. Thanks for sharing.
lol "That'll put hair on yer chest"
I've never been as hungry for a Texas Steak as when Sarah was eating one.
Great experience in my home state.
Thx Sarah.
They’ve upgraded their limousine. My wife and I stayed in Amarillo in 2015 at a super dodgy hotel and they were dropping someone off. Their limo at the time was a stretched Chevy celebrity with long horns on it.
You can get a Longhorn set in Jackson, Wyoming in a store that sells a lot of taxidermy. I forgot the name, but the have a set at least since last fall. If your still looking.
15:18 - You got it! Parties of 6 or more get FREE limo to The Big Texan!
Huel Houswer would be proud, even without any interviews. I am not looking forward to smell-o-vision, considering some of the beat down places this woman goes.
Somehow, this makes me feel that all's well in the world.
Been there 3 times traveling across Texas. Steaks are not impressive. "Meh" is the best I would give their steaks. Their 72 ounce steak challenge is their fame and draws lots of people and tourists but the quality of meat isn't much to brag about.
I even drove east of Amarillo to McLeana atexas to see thr Barbed Wire Museum. Barbed wire is also called "thr devil's rope." Very interesting as barbed wire was what tamed thr vast open lands and develooed it for farmers and ranchers. So i saw 100s of different types of barbed wire and how they are used and how ranchers used them. Fascinating museum.
Wonderhussy Adventures are the best, and this is one of the best of the best!
Looked like that first limo has been sitting unused for a long time. Very glad I live in the real far west where Bibles are rare.
man I love that place! we used to stop by there every 6 weeks on our runs from Humboldt to Memphis.. It's been yrs.. Back when the green was more profitable...
Will you listen to New York New York in the hot dog eating contest back in 2008
As regular marketing back in the day and I'm not as old as you think I was in my mid-twenties
Hey Wonderhussy! First, thank you for this video. I'm still trying to catch up on some of your other vids and there's alot of them! 😂 Any-E-ways I've noticed how positive, energetic and "tell it like it is" narrative! I'm sure that all of us viewers aren't all men either! Lol Love your editing and sound effects! It makes me laugh 😂 just a piece of advice on steaks....a bnls prime ribeye steak you can't go wrong....being a retired meat cutter for 34 years!! 😂
Great video. Last summer my wife and I drove cross country from Reno, Nevada to Green Bay, Wisconsin and back. We found some very interesting sites such as Wall Drugs and the Corn Palace in South Dakota, the Field of Dreams in Iowa, US Grants home in Illinois, the Madison Zoo in Madison Wisconsin and much more. Our fantastic country is full of amazing locations. This place looks like one of those that you do not want to miss if you are nearby.
That is really awesome. My dad used to like to go to the dirt track races in Amarillo and I loved it because every time we went, we got to stay in the motel and eat at the restaurant as a kid. It was fun. seeing all the rooms that were different western themes, and I don’t know if they still do but used to when you walked in on your right hand side. You could take a look at the size of the 72 ounce steak wrapped in saran wrap and placed on the ice with all the green garnish around it.
Thank you for taking us along for the road trip to experience Texas! That motel, and restaurant, was amazing. Your drink paired well with the steak you dined on! I look forward to your next adventure this Friday! Best wishes and hopes! 😀
oh Sara thanks for the "wonder " code for the 12 volt rouge rv cooler.....It saved me 40 dollars which is great and the cooler is great too.....
An Indian, a Mexican and a red neck walk into a bar. I have never ever heard the "higher the hair the closer to god" joke. but I have read the Bible! thank you ALL stay safe!
This reminds me, I had a dream not long ago that I was visiting Big Texan with my navy squadron (got out of the navy 27 yrs ago lol). But we arrived too early and they weren’t serving lunch yet. So to kill time I went walking behind the building and got lost in a run-down Amarillo neighborhood and couldn’t find my way back!
Well it looks like another great video done by Wonder hussein. Some day I'll get her to respond to my comment because she fills the need. Lol
That was a fun watch girl!

Love you Sarah! In case you didn’t know, they require you to eat all the fixins (salad, potato, and bread) in addition to the steak! 🥩
the limousine would go to the truckstops and pickup drivers
so they would have some parking for the tourists to get fleeced🤠🤠🤠
went there once that was enough$$$😬😬😬
did you find buckles😎😎😎??
We blasted past that place on our way to Atlanta back in the pre-interstate days, before WH was a twinkle in her mama's eye, so I can verify that it's been there at least that long. We didn't stop, though - wasn't in our newlywed budget. Fun to see now what it has become over the years.
When was the last time I saw a Studebaker? Hmmm... About five minutes ago. I got a 1942 Champion in my garage and it will be going to Texas next month!
I don't know what your travel plans include WoHu, but the second largest canyon system in the U.S. (second to the Grand Canyon) is just a short drive Southeast of Amarillo. Palo Duro Canyon is now a well-established State Park where I and my siblings spent many weekends. Safe Travels.
Great video today thanks 👍👍👍👍👍
I was there just last week on my way home from Houston. For the ultimate Texas experience try the chicken-fried steak. I had mine with creamed corn and fried okra.
Have you herd the chatter that the city of Albuquerque is planning to repair and clean up all the neon along old 66 for the 100 year anniversary? FUN FUN FUN Definitely have plans to check it out!
Girl, if I could punch another thumbs up I would!!! You done good this episode!😂
Texas the best state in the country. ❤
Texas is the best country LOL
Also known as the Republic of Texas.
The Texas chopstick-critter is NOT an armadillo... The Studebaker is a 1955 President.
Was there a year ago. Driven by it may times going from OKC to New Mexico.
