Awesome! Great explanation of how to treat the wood. I'm stoked to get one of these. Thanks for the info today in the conversation as well. -Doug
U bet Doug. We will keep adding sizes at Home Depot this week.
Will this wood stay looking like the color at 2:34? Love the grain of this wood and the live edges but I’d want to go for a darker more espresso finish (using it for a studio desk)
same here, been looking for a lighter color finish
Can you like the Hardwood Reflections butcher block satin top coat - Satin. I can only find the Old Mahogany
These aren’t in stock at home depot. Any way I can directly purchase it from the manufacturer ?
Just ordered one of these and can't wait to use it for my island with an overhang. I was wondering if the gel stain in the video is food safe or non toxic since I have small kids. I also was curious if the top coat requires mineral oil or other type of treatment after the initial top coat? Final question.....pilot holes with the 1 inch wood screws or does it not matter? I am guessing pilot holes. Thanks!
Scott! We're also excited for your project! The gel stain is not FDA approved as food safe, so if you're going to be using your island as a cutting board we would not recommend the satin top coat. We have a great tutorial on our website for food safe options. Your DIY project is up to you, but a pilot hole won't do you wrong!
Jake?!? Is that you! Ok good info, but one more thing.... Do I need to do anything after the top coat? Mineral oil frequently? Butcher block conditioner? I'm going with the satin top coat for sure so it is going to look awesome.
@@scotth950 Scott-Its Jake. Just do the top coat and nothing else. I like to do one coat on the top and 3 to 4 on the sides and the top. In a few years if you have some dings and scratches lightly sand and apply another coat.
Ok jake so I got my butcher block and it’s amazing. Do I sand first? How long between coats of the gel stain top coat? How long until it can attach to my island?
Hello. I'm also trying to find your satin gel top coat and can't find it anywhere. I won't ve using it for food, so it's fine if it isn't FDA approved. I also wrote an email at your website. Hopefully someone can get back at me. Thank you
How much time should I wait between coats?
Hey this product looks fantastic. I just ordered a 5ft cut for a desk I’m building in my office. Had a couple of questions I’d love thoughts on.
What is your recommended type of finish for this for something like a desk (oil, water, shellac-based)?
You mentioned in the video that Saman and Acacia are the same. I’m trying to figure out if this is monkey pod/rain tree wood or something else.
You're going to enjoy this beautiful desktop for years! First question is if you got our UV prefinished desktop or if it's indeed the unfinished product.
If it's unfinished, go with polyurethane or we recommend our Satin Top Coat finish too. At this level, we know that this is in the saman wood species family and it's beautiful!
@@HardwoodReflections Would you say it would be hard for someone with no experience to purchase an unfinished version? I see the unfinished on Home Depot but I am hesitant to purchase since I have no experience. Will I need to sand it, or just apply the coats? I would like to use it as an office desk. Thanks.
I'm having trouble finding the Acacia 8 foot by 25 inch options with 1 live edge. Both this and the 6 foot seem unavailable. While they be back in stock soon?
These should be back in stock around Feb 26th.
We should have this back in stock the first week of March.
@@HardwoodReflections patiently waiting. :( :)
