    I've been using the rear wheel method for decades but you have to make sure the rear wheel is firmly planted if it's gravel or dirt.
    It's not reliable when the object is something like a tree where the ground slopes away. The wheel just wants to slid away.

      Great point! If I have a situation like that I just lay it on the ground. Like I said if it's on the ground it can't fall 😊

    Ha ha.. my bike has a kickstand. No problem for me. ;) j/k. Well, one of my bikes has a kickstand, the others I lay down on the non drive side if I have to. I never have a curb or bench close by.. but will remember that if I should. Thanks for the tip.

    All good tips. As a "lefty," I'm guilty of leaning my bike up against something, on the derailleur side.
    I've had a few scares using the pedal/kerb method, especially if it's windy.
    These days my preference is to use the rear tyre method, which works fine on walls.
    For extra stability, I'll twist my bars a little until they're touching the concrete and the bar tape acts as a cushion.
    BTW: To keep my levers nice, shiny and protected, I ve slipped on about an inch of tacky rubber at the tips. MTB riders use that all the time for extra grip when its hot and wet!
    Cheers

    Yesterday, my pristine, fairly new Time bike fell over hitting the bike stand then the ground, scratching the top tube, Record derailleur and seat. I want a new bike now 😢. ❤

      Sorry to hear that!! Grrr 😡 this is why I prefer laying my bike down on the ground so it can’t fall. But depending where you are you won’t be able to do that safely. But you’re right it’s time for a new bike! Stat! 😂

    Good tips. Relying on the rear tire makes me nervous. If the wind or someone causes the front wheel to move, I'm worried my bike will end up on the ground

    I know you prefer to not stop, but any tips for when one has to go into a convenience store on a solo ride to prevent theft?
    I've used the first technique, helps if your bike is facing up a gradient. I'll have to try the tire rubber for smooth metal surfaces, generally they don't provide enough friction when resting the saddle or top tube against.
    Lastly, be considerate and don't block walkways or benches. Cyclists get enough of a bad rap already, and a rude passerby might bump and knock over your bike.

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  28 дней назад +1

      I posed your question to Jess. She says she’s brought the bike into convenient stores sometimes. I’ve taken mine in to big grocery stores when doing brevets and alone. I am usually self-sufficient as far as calories so all I need is water for my REV Energy powder or for hydration. I stop at parks, water fountains, and fast food places where I’m in and out very quickly. This is a tough thing to deal with riding alone. Great question!
      Great point about being considerate of others. As you can see from both videos there weren’t any other park users around. If solo I bring my bike into the stall with me though 😊 However, something has to have gone terribly wrong for me to use the bathroom on any ride shorter 6-8 hours. 😮

      @@SeeYouUpTheRoad yeah, I pretty much avoid having to stop when possible, and have considered bringing my bike in if and when I find myself doing rides long enough to need it. As long as there's room the rubber on our tires shouldn't be any dirtier than the rubber on one's shoes.
      Most of my rides are semi-rural, so water sources tend to be indoors, though I guess theft is less likely, too. I've leaned my bike against porta potty doors, but I'm about as likely to step into the woods in the odd occasion I need to.
      Thanks for sharing. Definitely wasn't accusing you of being inconsiderate, more general advice for the viewing community. Sadly, some of the disdain the general public has towards riders is earned by a few who are inconsiderate.

    George - I get nervous leaning my bike where the derailleur faces out because of the wind. If the wind blows my bike over, the bike will fall derailleur facing down and there is a greater change of bending the hanger. What are your thoughts?

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  Месяц назад +1

      I agree with you. Every situation requires a different bike parking technique 😂 hence why I lay my bike down on the ground almost always 😊

    Hello George, have you heard of the "Click Stand" lean stick?
    When you purchase a custom built, click stand, you get two elastic bands that you are placed on your handle bars near your brake levers.
    When you use the lean stand, these bands allow you to use your bicycles (one or both) brakes to actuate and hold the bike from rolling while using the lean stand.
    I find that I lean my bicycle on many items during the course of a day, I simply use one or both of the brake hold bands far more than the click stand itself.
    Get a couple for you and your Gal at Click stand today! 🥳
