- Approximately 1m30s video of my friend firing up this air starter - equipped 8v71 engine on ex-San Francisco Muni 1969 GM fishbowl transit bus #3153 before a short exercise run. I filmed this earlier today in Marin County, CA (just north of San Francisco). June 6, 2020
I miss these classic busses.
I remember these old GMC city buses
Outstanding!
Thanks!
Gotta see that one day!
The cylinder head hangs out over the rear bumper. No realized that’s how they were designed. Someone rear ends that bus… Ughhhh
Looks to have taller valve covers. Does it have a Jakobs brake?
Yes, it does! Very observant of you!
@@L-Taraval I volunteer at a transit museum in Vancouver B.C. While none of our buses have an 8V71N, one of our members brought his PD-4108 in and it had an 8V71N with the same covers and a Jacobs.
Quantos HP? ?
About 300
I'd love to know the steps involved to start that bus. What are you doing to get it going? Thanks--.
Make sure batteries are connected. Check oil and water levels. Make sure injector rack is free. Click rear run switch down to "rear run." Hold rear start switch down to engage starting system (either air or electric). Vroom! :-)
I thought those old fishbowls used the 6v71, not the 8v71 ...
Quite a few cities ordered their fishbowls with the 8v71. Off the top of my head, really quickly, I know San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Atlanta ordered 8v71s. I know there were more.
