    I couldnt imagine drivin that thing all day....in and out of quarrys or job sites...pullin hills at 15mph if your lucky. No Ps or PB.....No creature comforts. We Drivers have it nice now days. Those old school Drivers are my Heros and they were tough as nails. I drive Tri Axle Dump and I wouldnt want to Drive that old thing all day for 12 to 14 hrs thats for sure. I drove one of those back in the 1980's for awhile. I didn't know about the nickname! The truck I drove was very similar to this one, except it had an electric starter, the driver's door window would only stay up by wedging a stick under it inside the door, and the dump body was not a Columbia brand.

    • @lcrr700

      @@7viewerlogic670 it was a single brake pedal that was shaped to clear the steering column shaft. Nothing special about it other than the shape. Yes, it could be used during hoisting the dump bed as you've described.

  • @roblal7101

    It’s not the injectors that make it run away, a run away is when it starts running on its own engine oil

    • @lcrr700
      @lcrr700 4 года назад

      The engine was shut off normally by pulling an Engine Stop handle on the cab, which pulled a cable that shut off the fuel to the injectors.
      But as Rob has pointed out, shutting off the fuel would not kill a runaway. For this purpose, DD's had an Emergency Stop handle that pulled a cable releasing a spring-loaded flap that blocked the blower's air intake, thus killing the engine.
      It didn't always work.
