In this video I compare the results of the application of two different roof cleaning chemicals: hydrogen peroxide and "Wet and Forget" (outdoor concentrate).
Many pros in my industry would dismiss the idea of using either of these "weak" chemicals to clean an asphalt roof, opting instead for the traditional (and far stronger) chlorine bleach or the (damaging) pressure washer. But as I explain in this video, there are reasons consider these weaker chemicals.
Let's see how these chemicals do on my shed roof.

It's nice to see the results after time. I've seen many videos where the reviewer has trashed the product without giving it the time to do it's job. Has there been any improvement with the roof since it''s been over 18 months... thanks

Great video. I'm about to clean my roof (Advanced DIYer). Was that 7% Hydrogen Peroxide undiluted? Meaning sprayed on directly at 'full 7%' strength? Also was the tool to spray it on? It looks like it is coming from a garden hose as opposed to a pump sprayer.

How convenient ! I purchased a 4 gallon pail of 35% hydrogen peroxide to bleach out some whale bones I found on the beach. Looking at the cost of Wet And Forget, and the other cleaners I am ahead of the game even after paying $153 for the concentrated peroxide. I only used 1/2 a gallon for the bones so I have plenty to put on my 2,500 Sq Ft home, 38X45 shop and the 1,200 Sq Ft garage out back. 7% sounds like a good solution. Thank You !

I found some 7% HP and want to cut it down to 3% with purified water from my window washing RODI system to double the batch. That would give me 10 gallons to play with. It looks like you coated that side of the roof with very little HP. Great info on safer cleaning of roofs.

Up to you but if it were me I'd go with the 7%. Just wear goggles and gloves etc! Safety first.

@@OutsideCleaners I figured if that roof was cleaned with ordinary 3% I would cut it. I have a Gardiner backpack sprayer and it can put down a nice even spray pattern so a little might go a long way. Thoughts?

Huh I’m impressed, curious if we will still all be using sh in the future or switch to something easier that doesn’t kill plants and corrode things

Change will be slow in coming but it’s worth taking the time to educate homeowners on the pros and cons of all their roof maintenance options.

@@OutsideCleaners I'm considering adding roof washing to my window cleaning business. Based on this test could I get away with using peroxide only, no SH? And are you using sodium percarbonate mixed in water to make peroxide?

Steve, I think you're confusing this comparison video with a "how to" video. It's not a "how to" video. This is about the chemicals' performance on a roof, not about how the chemicals got there.
For those wondering how to squirt a chemical onto a roof, here's another video about pumps I've used. ruclips.net/video/dSF740tX9yg/видео.html

Cool experiment. But the best way to prevent moss is to install a 24 gauge copper strip at the pitch vent. You can do a 12” (6” per side) or two 4” strips just under the vent. 3” copper strip is barely noticeable. Kinda looks cool too. Every time it rains the run off from the copper kills and prevents moss and algae. They come in 10 foot strips.
