Great job 💯 I'm a woman that loves DIY projects. I'm going to do this next. My husband doesn't like for me to try certain projects myself because he doesn't know what to expect but I always surprise him ☺️☺️💕💕
Good tutorial. I want to build one and I think I'm ready to do it. This helped give me confidence. I love seeing these where people make mistakes and have to fix them. Just like everyone else. Good stuff
I was thinking that the air pressure was too high for the pin nailer. That’s usually the case when the pin penetrates completely though. Should be about forty to sixty psi. A very nice job, I will be using the idea for my daughter’s build.💪👍
One of the best 'how to' video's I've seen. I've watched a few of these. (I'm going to be redesigning mine.) You video is the bestbove come across. Good work man
Thank you. I'm gonna build a faux fireplace and just use plywood to paint the backboard to give it a realistic look if possible. I live in a rental. So, the least the will be affected will nail holes.👍🏽
Looks great and will be doing something similar in my home. What is the adhesive that you used for the crown molding corners? Also what is that crown molded called?
Sorry for the late reply. The molding is called "cove." The adhesive is CA Glue or Cyano Acrylic Glue. You can find on Amazon. Hope your project went well!
It’s a type of thin nail. Some people refer to it as a wire nail. It leaves a small hole and is good for light stuff like trim/baseboard. It’s no good for framing heavier stuff tho.
Thanks for sharing. Have you worked on another video for the tile work inside that mental? The mental is simple and pretty. I have installed a fireplace but could not figure out what to do on the front.
I like the info and the content in this video but when the volume is at a level that I can hear you speak the music comes in and it is simply way too loud. Hopefully you will correct this in future videos. Thanks for posting.
Thank You, For Sharing Your Video, i really like the mantel you build, very clean and sharp lines. Is it possible for you to share the plans. I really would appreciate, i'am new to woodworking. And My Wife Would Like Me To Build Her A Mantel, Thank You Keoki.
Hi Keoki. Sorry I don't have plans. It is largely dependent on your particular fireplace and wall space available to work with. Good luck pleasing your wife!
So sorry for the late reply! It's all 1" by poplar wood. 3/4" thickness. I made it such that there is 12" spacing above and on the sides of the fireplace. I think that is per building code though I wasn't able to find the reference. The columns are 46" tall until they contact the lower mantel covering board. This board and everything above it can be whatever size you want. Just might want to make sure to keep the overhangs and reveals the same like I described in the video. I believe the cove is a 3.5" molding. The top board will be a function of this molding size (bigger molding means bigger top board so the reveal is right). That's about all I can give that will be useful as your fireplace and personal preference will govern your design.
@@adamguarino3507 Thank you so much for giving this detail info, I had the same question. I appreciate your generosity and creativity. I love this mantel , I watched this over and over, Hats off.
Great job. Can you post a sequel to this. I would like to see the completed result of your work and is this a switch or remote? Can you provide the link to this fireplace to purchase too. THANK YOU.
Thanks! The tile ended up being kind of a rush job before a baby shower that we were hosting so no video of that. Sorry. The way I did it was to install a temporary header board even with the top of the fireplace enclosure first. I tiled the top part from the header up so that the header could support that tile level while the mortar set. The next day, I did the two sides after removing the header. I suppose you could start from the floor and work up, but you'd need to find a good way to support that tile directly over the fireplace or else it will sag from its own weight. Just a tip. Good luck!
The Handy Life TV thank you!! will keep this in mind. we’re waiting on the new year to build our mantel - military family so hubby is gone quite a lot. didn’t want to venture the task without his help haha! thanks again and I’ll let you know how it all turns out!
Thank You So Much For Your Response, I Appreciate You. I Been Watching Your Video, And I Understand There's No Plans. But Could You Please At Least Share The Measurement, For Example The Column. The Shelf Board Attaching To The Column. The Mantel Box, The Top Shelf Board, The Cove Molding, The Top And Bottom Molding For The Column, And Measurements For The Base Molding. I Would Greatly Appreciate Any Help, You Willing To Share With Me. Thank You So Very Much, Keoki

The wall behind is the drywall from having our house repaired after flooding. I added the fireplace mantle and then added the tile. Check it out in my follow up video.

Great mantel! What was the description of your air sprayer?
Wagner Flexio 970
he should have put it in the description.
Love it! Make me one I’m only across the pond lol
Haha! We are now too. Sold this house and have since moved to South Korea!
This design is from Finish Carpentry TV “The Super Simple Mantle”.
How do you hang it on concrete walls let me know thanks

great job. I think you stopped yourself with the trim a the right time. Its too easy to keep adding trim and ruin the job. looks fantastic.

Also what was the height of the poplar trim around the base of the columns?
6 inches i believe!
Is that just normal drywall around the fireplace?
Yes. I came back and tiled. I added a video of that work. Sorry for the late response!
Where did you get the cove cronw molding??
So sorry for the late response. The crown molding is from Home Depot.
What size brads for the crown?
What was the overhang on the very top piece?
1/2 inch!
What kind of sprayer do you use?

I didn't replace the fireplace for this job. Just the mantel around it. And yes, I plan to post a sequel where I talk about the tiling work.

You make a really good looking fire surround then and real attention to detail but you leave that horrible painted wall paper on behind it lol
