Looking into building something like this. Looks great! Is it not a fire hazard to have something that puts off heat in something made of wood like that? Is there any type of treatment to make it safe/r?
Hi Ryan, That's a good question. It's not a fire hazard at all. The lighting is from LED bulbs and while there is a setting to put out heat, it's not a lot. There are lots of commercial fireplaces with wood surrounds and electric inserts on the market. The problem with those is they look so fake and aren't scaled to look full size.
OMG! That is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! My husband and I are looking for an electric fireplace for our central Florida home, where we DO get some really chilly winter weather. That is very lovely, and I'm sure it didn't cost you what I saw on Amazon!
Thank you for sharing and being very thorough and explaining step by step your process I can appreciate that for those of us who are not as professional as the others, continue doing great things and I'll keep watching your channel this is my first time but I'm very impressed so maybe next time the next one will be better and the next one even better just keep doing what you're doing hats off to you hun😊
I think for this project the 2x4’s are a bit of over kill! It’s a great looking piece and i think it could be done with 2x3’s or even 2x2’s as it is not structure just a cosmetic piece! But it’s great looking! Think I’ll build one also
You are probably right on the 2x4s since it really isn’t holding any weight. Glad you like it and it really looks fabulous in a room! Hope you make it.
Dodge Ram 01 ..... I like your idea of doing it with 2x2’s. Although do you think those will suffice for holding the the electric heater? If so I may go that route.
That's a good question. I did cut the baseboard out where the fireplace would be. But, you can ]notch out the back of the fireplace instead if that's and issue.
Thank you for sharing, simple instructions and very useful tips, I'm definitely going to use your fireplace framing and design idea and make a nice built in TV stand.... Thanks and keep sharing please - great job!!!
Can you please give me the measurement of the plywood cause I'm will be building the same one, I just love your fireplace. How many plywood would I to buy? Thank you
h2obungalow.com/how-to-build-a-diy-fireplace-with-electric-insert/ Please consult the tutorial again for all the details. So glad you liked it, we love it!
Wow! So happy I found this on my RUclips suggestions! I am going to make a surround for my electric fireplace insert but am scared to get started 🤣👀. Now maybe I have more bravery! Thank you for sharing all your creativity!
Hi Robin! I'm so glad you found my how to build a faux fireplace with an electric insert tutorial useful! If you have an questions. heck out the post for more information and feel free to send me a note through the blog post. Have fun with your new fireplace!
I have don’t the math on how many boards etc for the frame and base. However, I see you listed half in ply. Do you have a number of how many sheets you bought or what would be the mathematical equation that I would need to solve how many sheets Ineed
So glad you like my fireplace! I've just added a chimney and am about to share that video too! The nail gun is a Ryobi Airstrike brad nailer. I use mine all the time!
I agree, it would look better with the plywood being cut a little higher so the trim piece went completely across top of fireplace. I have ocd as well & the fireplace itself doesn’t look level🤷🏼♀️
This is perfect! My husband and I were looking for something like this for our home. I'm subscribing because I see a few other projects of yours that interest me! 😊😊😊

This is just awesome; so simple, yet elegant and timeliness! I’ve been wanting to upgrade my fireplace; it’s gas, it has tile around it, but the worse part is the fact that it’s that the wall does above the fireplace does not cover the entire fireplace; I’d love to get your ideas on how to fix it. I don’t want to spend much, as I’m selling the place. I just want to upgrade it for the next owner. I can send you photos if you provide me with an email (not sure how to do it from here).
h2obungalow.com/how-to-build-a-diy-fireplace-with-electric-insert/ I've done a lot of upgrades since the last post, take a look and it should be very helpful. Good luck and thanks for watching.
WOW! That fireplace looks absolutely amazing! I came on YT to search for diy projects for building electric fireplaces. I chose to watch your video first, and I'm glad I did. After viewing your video, I definately plan to build my own electric fireplace. I also plan to build my very own upholstered tufted winged headboard. Thank you very kindly for sharing such a beautiful project.
What a Fantastic Job! I have a fire place but I want it a little taller and now I'm trying to figure out how to make it. I have I 50 inch tv on it and it as wide as the fireplace. I really like the frame you made, so I will try and make it. Thanks for sharing.
Hi, so glad you like my fireplace! This was the best addition to this room! If you look on my blog, it will share the supplies I used h2obungalow.com/how-to-build-a-diy-fireplace-with-electric-insert/ thanks for watching my video!
i had to come back...the easiest one for me thank you once again. i live in apartment and i cant remove the base board how would i get it to be flush with the wall
Thank you. This one is attached to the wall. It's heavy so it wouldn't be easy to move. That said, it doesn't have to be attached. So you could make it moveable. Thanks for watching!
Very nice! This was very useful. I have been looking to install an electric fireplace (because of the obvious cost savings) but am concerned about the final look. Some look so fake. This one looks really good. Great job!
Thank you so much! I know what you mean about most look fake. I just added a faux stone chimney on this one - a post and video. You can see it here h2obungalow.com/diy-faux-stone-fireplace-chimney/. Good luck on your project!
Very nice!👌 This is a great project for me next fall. I saw a movie where the location of the actual fire floor/base was raised a few feet higher than usual, that would be my preference. Your video also has me considering encasing my TV and/or an aquarium, perhaps. Thank you for sharing & inspiring!
Thanks so much! It's actually a faux fireplace with an electric insert. It's all one unit and just fit into the wood mantle and surround I built. Thanks for watching!
@Alan fry Thank you very much! It's rewarding building things for the house and having friends and family come in and compliment it. We are enjoying the fireplace!
The wires are plugged in on the inside. The back is open and I had a plug installed on the wall where the fireplace sits. If you go to my website you'll get more information. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much. You've got good eyes! I put shims under it to raise it a little and then didn't like how it looked and removed only 1 side instead of both. I got distracted and forgot the other side. I saw that too thought, UGH!
H2OBungalow Home Decor & Home Improvement I don’t think it matters. I hope I didn’t hurt your feelings at all... that wasn’t intended. I’ve only recently started wearing reading glasses and couldn’t decide if it was my eyesight, the new glasses or a slight quirk. Either way, you did a marvellous job and it looks amazeballs! I wish I had the skills to do this for myself but I’m notoriously bad at DIY and an amputee to boot so can’t spare any fingers messing with saws, power tools etc... great work. just a lil crooked
Very beautiful I love you D Y I fireplace thank you for you inspiration ideas😂
Is it me, or is your fireplace ( the electric box) crooked... Leaning down on the bottom left?
Lol it does look crooked
The fireplace inserts is crooked, needs a shim. But, I really like the simplicity of the design. And, it looks great.
This is stunning, you do such a great job of walking us through your projects.
Thank you so much! There was a lot of information to share on this one :)
Thank you so much Sarah! I loved this project and it's been so much fun to share with other people!
OMG I've literally been dreaming about building something like this. This is incredibly helpful, thank you!!!!!! Turned out amazing!!!!
Thank you so much! This is one of my favorite DIY projects. I hope you make one too!
Great work! And I want to know… what leg workout do you do? Legit question from a gal in her 50’s who’s legs need a good routine 😃
This is truly amazing, Love the design, you make this very simple to build.
Awesome!! And girlfriend you are in such bomb shape!!
LOL!! Thank you on BOTH counts!
Great job. Looks awesome.
Now you can come build mine! Lol I’m struggling!!
Oh no! Take it a step at a time. You can do it!

Hi Jenny and thank you! Watch for my next video, I'm adding a faux stone chimney to the fireplace this week!
OMG! That is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! My husband and I are looking for an electric fireplace for our central Florida home, where we DO get some really chilly winter weather. That is very lovely, and I'm sure it didn't cost you what I saw on Amazon!
Hi! Nope, it didn't cost as much (only the insert did). Plus, the overall piece is far prettier and better made than something pre-made from Amazon!
That's what I'm talking about, Girl you did that! Beautiful👍
Thank you!
Doris Bibbins I agree with you completely!
Thank you for watching!
WOW! Just beautiful!
H2OBungalow Home Decor & Home Improvement, Sis.! You did that; the fireplace looks Amazing! New Subbie! God Bless!

@@thecosplaynoobj3872 Just something to consider is to make each side of the wooden parts next to the heater for storage .
Cld have cut out that top part an place a TV in there? If sooooooooo can i order two.. Colors: Emrald Green & Stone
English isn't my first language. Now only I know the visual displayer is called an insert. Thank you! 😁
No worries!
How did you cut the baseboard piece? Did you have to remove the entire baseboard
Glad it was helpful!
Is it just me or does it look a little crooked, like the right size a little higher than the left?
It's not crooked but I did add shims to raise it and forgot to take one side out before I filmed. Good eye!
Definitely not crocked
Looks like about $16k worth of wood in 2021 prices
That's funny! Hopefully wood prices will go down again soon!
The fireplace is not level. You should leveled the base first before finishing it.
You’ve got a good eye the base is level actually. I was fiddling with shims to raise the insert unit and forgot to take one out. 😊
Can you please give me the measurement of the plywood cause I'm will be building the same one, I just love your fireplace. How many plywood would I to buy? Thank you
I am considering building this too. And, I had the same question. Don't see the plywood measurements in any of the descriptions.

So glad you liked it, we love it!
All that caulking at 6:24 😂
Maybe scribe the wood next time. It’s very easy to do.
Wow! So happy I found this on my RUclips suggestions! I am going to make a surround for my electric fireplace insert but am scared to get started 🤣👀. Now maybe I have more bravery! Thank you for sharing all your creativity!

U did a great job. I just didn’t like that it’s too high. But. Thank u for doing and showing
Is there a risk that the fireplace will make the wood too hot and it will catch on fire?
Hi Sara, - It's an electric insert, with LED lights that make it look like real flames. So, no there's no risk of fire. :)
It came out so beautiful, I am in process of building one currently, your video is very helpful..xoxo
Hi and thank you so much! How exciting! I love our fireplace and I'm sure you will love yours too! I'm so glad my video was helpful!
You are hot woman all my respect
Very outstanding
I have don’t the math on how many boards etc for the frame and base. However, I see you listed half in ply. Do you have a number of how many sheets you bought or what would be the mathematical equation that I would need to solve how many sheets Ineed
And my kids call me Mom the builder....lol. Great job!
That's hilarious! My kids call me that too! Thank you so much, we love the new fireplace!
Great job. This is my next project...thanks for the inspiration
You’re welcome! So glad you liked my fireplace project!
Amazing!!!! Where is that nail gun from?
So glad you like my fireplace! I've just added a chimney and am about to share that video too! The nail gun is a Ryobi Airstrike brad nailer. I use mine all the time!
Easy to setup and install regardless of the type of gas used (natural gas or propane). I highly recommend this product.
Thanks alot i was thinking to build one for my wife as Christmas gift 😍
I'm sure she'd love it! It's changed our living area!
This turned out Great!! and u made it from scratch!!! The wood panels were a pleasant surprise 💕
Hi Cass and thank you! We are loving it!
What an awesome idea! Thanks for all of the tips and tricks.
It looks amazing.
Hi Meegan! Thank you so much! I'm glad you found the tips helpful. To me, those are the most helpful when I'm researching a new project!
I learned something new 😁
That's awesome! Thanks for watching!
Did the piece of wood u put above insert ,to hide the seam , keep the unit from being flush at top?
The wood at the top covers the seam
I agree, it would look better with the plywood being cut a little higher so the trim piece went completely across top of fireplace. I have ocd as well & the fireplace itself doesn’t look level🤷🏼♀️
Is the wood safe next to the fireplace heater?
Yes, it's just a little heat that comes out, not like a real fireplace.
Very beautiful I love this fire place you are amazing and so very talented with the right tools you can build almost anything
Yes, it's amazing what you can accomplish with the right power tools.
Great job 👍🏻
This is perfect! My husband and I were looking for something like this for our home. I'm subscribing because I see a few other projects of yours that interest me! 😊😊😊
Thanks so much! We love ours. I've added a faux stone chimney on too. There's a video for it too! Have fun with your project!
I used this video as a template to build my on fireplace and it turned out great. Thank you much
That's awesome!
from now on i am going to use your method of writing the measurement on my pieces :)
Such a simple thing has saved me tons of time and mistakes! So glad it will be useful for you too!
Looks like little bit crooked
Not really, I'd shimmed it to get the panel higher and forgot to take out one side when I didn't like it. Good eyes though!
Amazing!!!
Thank you for being so detailed 😊
Thank you so much! I’m glad it was helpful!
Since it’s electric, it doesn’t need to vent?
Yes, that is correct

I would suggest cutting out the back of the fireplace, if you can't remove the
baseboard.Good luck, I know you can do it!
Thanks so much. I am just about to finish mine by looking at your video which serves as a guide.
Awesome! Glad it was helpful!
Wow this is just amazing! This video helped me understand how this is done. Thank you so much for sharing! By the way you did an amazing job!
You are so welcome!
Amazing Genius Lady !
Thank you so much!
Hello congrats and beautiful.. had one question can you move it around since is plug in electric fireplace?
Thank you. This one is attached to the wall. It's heavy so it wouldn't be easy to move. That said, it doesn't have to be attached. So you could make it moveable. Thanks for watching!
Wow this is amazing I have a diy fire place on my channel as well keep up the great work 🔥❤️

Any advice on where to buy the electric insert?
You can get them on Amazon! That's where I got mine. Cannot wait to do this tomorrow.
Yes, find it here Electric Fireplace - amzn.to/31rQPMY
Very nice!👌 This is a great project for me next fall. I saw a movie where the location of the actual fire floor/base was raised a few feet higher than usual, that would be my preference. Love your videos you make the easy and pleasant to watch...can you give me the model of that nail gun..thanks
Hi and thank you! I'm using a Ryobi 18v nail gun. here's a link amzn.to/3RMcDh4 from my Article on best tools to have.
What type of wood did you use for the fireplace? It looks amazing by the way!
Thanks so much! It's actually a faux fireplace with an electric insert. It's all one unit and just fit into the wood mantle and surround I built. Thanks for watching!
Great job!!!
Thank you!!
Where did you get your fire insert
I have 8-foot ceilings how do you figure out how high you can make the fireplace so that it looks nice in the space that it's in?
My ceilings are 8 feet. I'd use that for a gauge and then tape a fireplace outline on the wall to see if you like the scale.
Ver y nice, grettings from Chihuahua México
Thank you!’
My carpenter’s eye noticed your fire place doesn’t looks plum but great job!
Thanks! Yes, I know but it isn't crooked. I used shims to raise it and forgot to take one side out after I decided not to use the shims.
The insert is crooked lol
Good eyes! It's not really crooked, I had a shim under it to raise the front and decided it looked better without it and forgot to take one side out.
@Alan fry Thank you very much! It's rewarding building things for the house and having friends and family come in and compliment it. We are enjoying the fireplace!
@Alan fry Thank you again! :)
Very Nice Done ... Looks Great !!! Thank You for Sharing
Thank you so much! I'm adding a new video next week that shows how to build a stone faux chimney to the fireplace. Please come back and watch it!
Looks like the right side is slightly higher than the left on the insert after it’s finished.
Good eyes, I forgot to take the shim out. Thanks for watching.
Didn’t see where she plugged it in, are the wires behind it OR coming in from side ?
The wires are plugged in on the inside. The back is open and I had a plug installed on the wall where the fireplace sits. If you go to my website you'll get more information. Thanks for watching!
Waaaay too much talking!!!!!
2chisquared many of us like that she explains as she goes along. Sorry we aren’t all as handy as you. Move along and complain else where.
Omg you did such a wonderful job, I love it 👍👍👍👍
Thanks so much! We use our fireplace almost every day and still love it!

Great job.. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Did not see how you installed the device great work
Hi! That's the easy part, it just slips into the opening. Nothing is mounted. Thank you for watching!
Great job, good video, thank you. I wanna buid my own too
Thank you so much! Do it! You'll be happy with how adding a fireplace makes a room much more welcoming.
A hotwife that can build with her hands. That’s awesome
Hubby likes it too 😁!
can i know the paint color on your wall as i would like to match it with my fireplace mantel..
Hi! We used Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter.
Love it. Great idea and execution. One minor niggle, is one side on a slight squint or are my eyes? Lol.
Thank you so much. You've got good eyes! I put shims under it to raise it a little and then didn't like how it looked and removed only 1 side instead of both. I got distracted and forgot the other side. I saw that too thought, UGH!
