Nurgles plans for mortarion were too well planted for that to ever work though.
Gotta love Perturabo that he is just the most 'sane' person dealt with a horribly bad hand. While Angron is tragic, he is just dead now as daemon primarch. While Pert just wanted to be appreciated. Perhaps also be treated with a bit of kindness. It is always sad just that in blinded bitterness his foster sister, his only tether to his humanity, was killed by his own hand. It is ironic since I think I remember that Perturabo is supposed to be the name of one the Emp's closest friends.
He also murdered random artists out of spite before even meeting the Emperor! And immediately killed 10% of his Legion when he joined them. He's a cool character but I wouldn't call him sane 😁
He just wanted to build public infrastructure, but was forced to build weapons of war and glimpse at the eye of terror. He is the combination of Guilliman and Dorne that went full petty. If the Emperor had not gotten rid of it's compassion and told him, just once, that he was sent to shitholes because he was the only one capable enough to deal with them, Petty Perty would have done what he did best, being bitter while grumpily doing the impossible.

@@im2randomghgh Very true, I definitely didnt forget that that. But look at the alternative for the traitors. One's a snake now, a zealot hiding from the big bad crow, a moth daemon, and a rage monster. Not even Magnus gets a pass no matter how tragic by nature of how he was led into becoming traitor by Horus as he couldnt stop thinking that he knew best instead of actually listening to the warnings.
Perturabo was the one who gave himself the bad hand because he actually thought that quietly doing the suicidal tasks that nobody else wanted to do and not seeking praise would get result in him getting praise heaped upon him by the Emperor. This led to a self-fulfilling prophecy where Perturabo would quietly do the tasks that nobody else wanted to do with seemingly no thought for praise and then getting pissy for getting the praise he thought he deserved. This willingness to do the suicidal tasks also lead to Olympia's rebellion because the Iron Warriors losses were basically wiping out entire generations of children to refill the ranks.
Almost makes you think what would have happened if Dorn had of asked Peturabo to help him to build the palace, saying that I need someone I can trust to help me build the palace.
I feel if dorn asked him for help it would have made pertys day and i could see them building a truly impenetrable imperial palace and perty wouldnt have joined chaos.
In an ideal world, Perty would have accepted Dorn's offer...however, I do not think Perty would have seen it as a sign of friendship at that point. Pert probably would have seen it as an insult, and turned Dorn away, only to let the wound fester and his hate/bitterness grow. At the end of the day, Perty's greatest enemy was himself, and his outlook on things.
@@ChaoticHarmony431 I really feel like this is the story of Perty. He’s his own worst enemy. His attitude and outlook on things just led him to be maladjusted (aside from the eye of terror mad dogging u 24/7) and I kind of like that about him. I used to be that way. Always self sabotaging or not setting myself up for success. Changed a lot. Makes me hope Perty is redeemed by waging war against the 4 gods for what they did to his brothers. But we all know they won’t write that because it’ll be too good 😂
My head canon is that Perturabo did not ascend to Daemon Princehood, he allowed his armour to become a Daemon Engine Prince and hides inside doing blueprints for Chaos Aqueducts or something.
You get a glimpse of what Perturabo might have ben able to achieve in Angel Exteriminatus, it's somewhere around the point when he's half dying and Fulgrim has a peek into his mind and saw what kind of city he dreamt of building. I doubt the traitor legions would have smashed the Emp's palace so bad without him, and the info from Alpharius.
@@synergy8879 Yeah, I couldn't remember that section fully, just the bit where Fulgrim is trying to sell him on staying in there while he robs his soul.
The best theory of his "ascension" I have heard is that his armour/life support has grown and grown so much in the eye of terror over the milennia that he is slowly becoming it- like a fucking huge obloterator.
@@mattiaslime8926 I'm pretty sure you're talking about the Daemonculaba, but the garrisons in control of enslaved civilians on resource worlds probably also count, which to my knowledge was conceived by Honsou to use up the gene seed he captured from Hydra Cordatus before they expired in the warp's atmosphere. Considering what happened afterwords as a result of the failed batches the other Iron Warriors Warsmiths might not want to try it.
Hey! Magnus appreciated Perty! Probably didn't help that Magnus got "axed" pretty early on in the Heresy and then was the only other primarch actually doing shit during the siege, so didn't have much time with Perty then, but there was at least one person - and a primarch no less - that truly appreciated him.
Personally, I wonder what would have happened if Perturabo and Konrad got to hang out more, and maybe got a working relationship going on between their legions. Storywise, the primarchs have fairly similar backgrounds and grievances in terms of how they were looked down on for their tactics and personalities. If there were more Iron Warrior/Night Lord team ups in the current setting, we could get variety from the usual chaos shenanigans by having scenarios where the Boys in Midnight Clad swoop down to cause discord and panic in the enemy lines while the Metalheads come and fortify positions in a far more danger-close manner than they'd normally attempt on their own, choking off logistics, bombarding settlements with artillery and other siege engines and allowing fall back positions for either further Night Lord raids or even opening the way for hordes of renegade guardsmen to attack in hordes, picking off the planet's hive cities one by one. Also, imagine the dark humor we could get during the HH or even afterwards if first Konrad and Perturabo, then their captains, served as mutual snark machines for each other and their "allies."
Tbh I always liked Peturabo a lot more than the other chaos primarchs, even fantasised about a potential scenario where he leaves the eye of terror and conquers the second Terra and the surrounding stars as his own empire to launch attacks against the empire on the other side of the imperium where shit is getting fucked. Then he will be smug by announcing that he will build a better Terra than Dorn can lmao
I would love to see him leave the eye of terror as soon as his soul leak is fixed and ally himself with Commander Farsight to create a joint human-tau empire to rival the Imperium Sanctus
@@geeljire9247 There was a Star Trek-esque scenario encountered by Horus's crusade fleet where a planet... thought they were Earth. They even had an Emperor of Mankind upon a Golden Throne. It was basically foreshadowing, Horus is going to kill the real Emperor like he killed this fake Emperor.
Honestly, gotta love the meta perception of Perturabo. Much like many IN universe, people tend to overlook and downplay his achievements and capabilities, when in all reality, he is actually quite the skilled and interesting character. Sure, he is a bit of a sook, but that doesn't change what he has actually accomplish.
I hadn't ever heard the theory that Perturabo isn't really a Demon Prince. That would be the best plot twist in 40K history. Especially if he saves Guilliman or other Loyalist forces.
As long as the idea that Alpharius is still alive and doing whatever it takes for the Imperium, as he was instructed by Malcador, than the idea that Perty is just a renegade is doable. Almost any idea, no matter how screwy, if it holds some weight that Alpharius could have done it for the better of the Imperium in the long run, than it is possible.
Perturabo would never go back to the Imperium, he is driven entirely by spitefulness against the Imperium. Perturabo hated how the Imperium overlooked his intelligence and talent. He proved himself the superior strategist and tactician to Dorn at the Iron Cage, where Perturabo completely outplayed him and would have killed him if Dorn was not saved by Guilliman. The Imperium would have to give him some kind of formal apology, which would never happen.
@@blankeon6613 I can see Perturabo making his own superpower faction by virtue of being one of the only characters actually competent enough for that to even be a possibility. Spiteful against literally everyone, imperia, chaos, and xeno, but competent enough to stand firm and carve out his own, petulantly pissed off path.
Imagine if Perty become a Daemon Primarch, but not one dedicated to any of the four gods or undivided. Instead he's a Daemon Primarch and the Lord of the Forge of Souls itself. He'd be the master of the Daemon Engines with no god to rule him.
I've always thought that Malal would be a good fit for him. Also, Medrengard's aesthetics (a world with a pure white sky and a black sun) fit malice's coloration perfectly. Just my thoughts....
I'd love for the Majorkill theory to be true, I can almost see the scenario write itself. One last call to arms, an Iron Crusade, devastion wreaked on both the Imperial and the chaotic brotherhoods that betrayed him, entire planets being consumed by the technovirus and becoming giant daemonic engines...We need this.
What's really cool about the Iron Cage, that I hope the authors play into when writing it, is essentially how even Perturabo and Dorn's mindsets are flipped. Dorn is in more than one sense in Perturabo's shoes, both situationally and emotionally, and vice-versa. In fact, you could probably argue that Perturabo became a better primarch as the heresy unfolded.
Leman Russ would have been the most interesting choice to return first because it would force him to become the leader the Imperium needs instead of hiding behind the persona of a barbarian king and the fear of having to do this might have been the reason he want into the Eye if Terra. Or at least that's my theory because I'm pretty sure he was the last loyalist Primarch standing when he left.
The more I read about him, the more respect and understanding I have for him as a character and hope he returns as just this massive flex on chaos for there failings
Pert is a perfect example of why gratitude is important (and on the flip side, the importance of also speaking up instead of allowing bitterness to fester)
So glad to hear someone voice a similar head cannon to Perturabo as daemon primarch. He's supposed to be a technological genius and hates chaos, it would be pretty sick if his life support dreadnought was consuming daemons as the power source.
Perturabo trolled Rogal Dorn into going inside the Iron Cage which took down a lot of Imperial Fists and use their stolen gene-seeds as offering to the Chaos Gods for his ascension into Chaos Undivided Daemon Prince.
9:47 wile I understand your option it has been confirmed in a short story that a ultra marine see his face on the warp and see an abomination of metal and flesh. fused together with a skull of the iron warriors before noticing him and forcing his astrol progection into real space
Interesting theory. I prefer to think he would never become a daemon Primarch though. The Eye of Terror *haunting* him his whole life, tormenting his every moment all for him to willingly join up? The Lord of Spite and Iron allied with and submitting to something he has detested since his first sentient moment? He would never
I don't know that he would have willingly become one, it could be another Angron type deal where someone else did it to save him, but I just can't see the man turning to what he loathed to save himself.
I think him going full metal to stay “alive” in place of having a soul would be very interesting. But does beg the question… why wouldn’t he challenge fulgrim to get the pieces of his soul back? Maybe a “I didn’t need one any ways” sort of situation?
That is probaly what happenned, because perty is a pratical guy. If he sees that the chaos and the warp is a tool that he can use without loosing his mind he probaly would.
Slight correction, the suicide mission of the Mournaval was before Horus was going to replace him. And was a gambit worth deploying. Also Abbadon's great idea.

Perterabo is a great anti-hero. I can also sympathize with how he mentally snapped, and in a moment of weakness and confusion, picked the wrong side. I also hope he is not a demon prince, that would undermine his character like you said. Personally, I’d like for him to go through a redemption arc and end up being the very thing that wrecks chaos - like have the emperor work with Peterabo to fight fire with fire, sort of like the Legion of the Damned. Perty + Legion of the Damned team up against chaos would be legendary. I love my damaged characters that turn into anti heroes. They are fascinating and really run sci fi, like boba fett in Empire Strikes back and The Hound in Game of Thrones.
Perturabo is one of the reasons why the iron warriors are my favorite chaos legion lore wise, he and the iron warriors are absolute badasses, and many of them are actually very intelligent
Pertruabo is my favorite. Yes such an interesting and sad backstory compared to a lot of his brothers I can definitely agree I’d like to see something else than just a demon prince
Yeah. Him becoming a demon prince of chaos undivided just doesn't make sense. Lorgar, yes--he made the whole heresy possible, etc...the other four fell to one the four chaos gods...and then Perty's left being like "Oh yeah and he became a prince of chaos undivided, too. Offscreen." Way cooler if he's just a neurotic traitor with no demon stuffs to him.
I friggin love Perturabo. He's a great character. They've managed to really capture the essence of the psycho genius archetype and he just crushes it in every piece of lore he appears in. Some fans are like "ew, he's bad, I don't like him". And Emperor's great golden balls, I think they are missing the fucking point. Perturabo is amazing because he's so incredibly bad. He also retains a core of twisted honor. That's the guy *I* wanna play in this story! You self righteous Imperials can all go kick rocks, the 41st millennium is a hell hole. Rebel and Rampage!
Would be interesting that since he seems to be suffering a slow death similar to the Dark Eldar. That him and Vect have been working behind the scenes to achieve each others goals. The Dark Eldar can create a fix for his soul leaking and in return Perturabo could eventually create a permanent fix for both their problem.
Missed a huge chunk of lore regarding him and Dorn. The reason Dorn lay seige to him in the method he chose was partially to 'cleanse his legion' as he knew they wouldn't submit willingly to being broken into chapters based on the codex astartes.
@@thecommentguy9380 If the primarchs acted like their supposed character's even half the time, I think only a couple would have fell to chaos. Nothing gets in the way of the writers.
That, and the IF were fighting so well during the Iron Cage that destroying them would have required the "Ultimate sacrifice" for the traitors. Dorn's intention may have been mutual annihilation, because then there's be no one left with the expertise required to threaten the palace again
@@thecommentguy9380 While I agree it was that or another civil war and complete end of the Imperium. Personally, Dorne got fudged post Seige of Terra. I mean, realistically what did Guilliman and crew do? they waited it out, started the imperium 2.0, then realized fuck, Dorne is holding on, hurry we can still do something.
Step 1: Build massive demon engine Step 2: inscribe commands such that the possessing demon has full control over said engine Step 3: become demon prince Step 4: possess demon engine
He's my favorite traitor primarch, his actions make sense when you know the whole story and unless GW fucked it up, he would also be the only non-demon traitor primarch as well. Don't get me wrong, he was still a bit of a man child, but when you see all the shit he went through it's the kind of shit that would make you quit your job too. Edit: Thinking about it, in theory what Pert could do is copy necron tech and do a consciousness transfer to a fully robotic body, and he might be able to do it if his ability to understand tech by looking at it extends to xeno tech as well.
I like to imagine Perturabo is just happily building infrastructure and technologies and stuff in the eye of terror, since he's not taking order from anyone anymore.
If this guy suddenly turns face it would be sooo fucking good. Just imagine Perturabo suddenly being one of the catalysts of the Emperor's return just before he succumbs, his death arriving before the "good guys" deal the winning blow. They really need to mae a 40k movie. A good one.
Ok theory time. What if perturabo is in a similar situation to the dark elder. His soul is leaking away, but to where? Probably slaanesh, since his soul was being used by fulgrim as a sacrifice to slaanesh. Slaanesh is already doing something similar to the dark elder. If that’s the case, he may be using suffering to keep himself alive, just like the dark elder. Also, though it’s a stretch, maybe he made some sort of machine that can generate warp energy that has the same signature as pain. This could explain the bulk on his newer armor.
As a person who started their journey into war hammer lore by watching major kill the best analogy to describe it is like building a log cabin using wood already on fire but somehow it gets built, ork WAAHG levels of warp fuckery
Except the part where the iron warriors created the daemunculaba.... ? Am I the only one that remembers the giant hentai rape/ abomination vagina monster?
@@alfieingrouille1528 Guiliman takes that simply by recognizing where every faction in the Imperium stands and how to navigate the politics of the decaying government.
My theory is the Emperor KNEW that half of his sons were pledged to chaos, it was a deal he made with the Chaos Gods, a deal he attempted to weasel him self out of a few times but couldn't. So as a precaution he hand picked the ones he wanted to stay loyal and those he would have seen better to betray him, it explains everything, on how he treated Angron, to his chastising of Lorgar to even his detachment towards Perturabo, id go as far as to say he thought that Perturabo would be the one to lead the rebellion for some reason. Why he had him grinding his legion in to dust to lower his impact when the fateful moment came.
My only problem is Perturabo's freaky ass legion makes him look like a decent person in comparison. And the Emperor's children like a normal rock band.
I believe the forces of chaos know that if they were to succeed in wiping out all other factions in they galaxy they'd cease to exist and that's why the chaos leadership is usually so bad at their job. And why all the chaos characters who are good at their job are unsupported secondary characters. Chaos's goal isn't victory, it's self preservation. If order win's chaos dies, if chaos wins chaos dies. The only way for chaos to continue is to fly like Icarus.
A few months ago, I came across the Heresy era model of Perturabo and absolutely fell in love with the guy. I'm not big on chaos but, it seems, neither is Perty. He seemed like the most level headed of all the traitors(not without his own failings, of course), and embodied the Emperor's devotion to technology and science above all things. I really hope we see him make a return to 40k alongside his loyalist brothers.
Really wish they'd kept him as the only non-demonic traitor primarch - would've been more inkeeping with his style and would've added a lot more potential story fluff for good books around him and conflicts with the other traitors
The lesson here is that you should always appreciate those who achieve things for you. I'm not saying they should be lavished with praise constantly, but some appreciation is in order. This guy for example; out of all the superhuman badasses the Emperor created as his primarchs, Perturabo is the only one with the common sense to wear a fucking helmet 2:32
Technically no . The traitors fled when Horus was obliterated and with his death almost all daemons vanished. It would have taken roughly two weeks to break the final defenses according to horus and lion, leman and guilliman were barely a day away . If the traitors pushed even after horus death the other three legions would have mowed them down from behind. The chaos gods who were the ones bankrolling the whole heresy weren't invested in the destruction of the imperium per se but the death of the emperor and they just pissed off after Horus failed . So it would likely have been Perty and Morty only sandwiched by the loyalists
@@licensed_beheader Well, accounting his efforts before horus died, I'm pretty sure they would've won the siege even before the emperor and horus fought
@@takebacktheholyland9306 Not exactly. Despite how it's portrayed, perty wasn't stream rolling the loyalists prior to his rage quitting, quite the opposite infact. A majority of his initial assaults were repelled with brutal efficiency by Rogal. Remember the lions gate failure at the start. Its the reason he withdrew and let Horus, Magnus and Zardu layak and his wretched sorcerer buddies together with the ritual genocide of the terran civilians weaken the psychic wards. Even with his meat grinder war attitude and the numerical superiority of traitor astartes to loyalists defenders he knew even breaking down one gate without the disposable daemons would have been too costly for his side. The emperor also confronted Horus at the end when it looked like the loyalists were doomed because he knew with Horus' defeat the heresy was more or less won for the loyalist even though traitor elements would still exist in great numbers(which happened). Perty wasn't the backbone of the siege it was Horus, it was by the will of the gods that the traitors even got to terra(Horus would have been obliterated by a imperial knight super laser if not for the gods literally shielding him all the assassins sent were stopped because Erebus was being warned by the gods, the warp storms preventing loyalists from moving freely was being surfed by the traitors because of daemons e.t.c). Horus being the avatar of the gods only his death would halt the heresy. It's probably why all was lost from the start. He sacrificed his innate strength at the alter of his hubris at the behest of deranged parasitic gods.
This only makes sense, thanks to very new information. My Theory is that after the Iron Cage incident, Vashtorr the Arkifane recognized Perturabo and gave him a way to not only survive the damage that Fulgrim had dealt him, but also offered Perturabo to become one of his most trusted advisers, offering Perturabo the recognition of one of the most important players and the credit he was due. Perturabo thus did not fall to Chaos as we knew it, but he became a willing and important asset in the horrible demonic forge of souls. THis also explains how his hole legion has the knowledge to create demon engines as they willingly followed Perturabo to be one of Vashtorr's most powerful assets and gain the knowledge of one of the great players, but on their own terms.
6:48 even before he goes and picks up Angron the Iron Warriors are shown to be giving the Ultramarjnes and all other loyalist forces hell throughout the galaxy. Perty had his troops thinned out to basically take everyone on at once while the other legions waffled about. They were hard carrying even before the siege.
Him, Alpharius and Gorrillaman, power of logistics, three most powerful primarchs by a long way. Magnus firing mindbullets or the lion being good in a duel isn't on the same level....

It would be awesome if he re-appeared, still as a traitor, but not a demon primarch... just the same old pissed-off guy, 10,000 years later.
Hey! Magnus appreciated Perty! Probably didn't help that Magnus got "axed" pretty early on in the Heresy and then was the only other primarch actually doing shit during the siege, so didn't have much time with Perty then, but there was at least one person - and a primarch no less - that truly appreciated him.
Can't be coincidence that they're the most "reasonable" of the Traitors.
Also hard for him to do much when 90% of his legion got wiped out before even turning traitor.

Interesting. Would that make Iron Warriors more “Renegade” than “Traitor”
He would never do that tho.

Video idea: How would each Primarch react and rule the imperium, if they were the one to return first instead of Guilliman

I'm really hopeful that with the introduction of the Dark Mech faction that seems to be on the horizon we'll learn more about Perty.
Perturabo is one of the reasons why the iron warriors are my favorite chaos legion lore wise, he and the iron warriors are absolute badasses, and many of them are actually very intelligent
Perturabo only truly loved his sister and still tries to bring her back to him.
The ending lore theory (Perty not being a demonic prince) is now canon to me
Pertruabo is my favorite.
Offscreen."
Way cooler if he's just a neurotic traitor with no demon stuffs to him.

Perty needs his own novel trilogy set during the dark imperium

Not wrong. If he would have stuck around during the Siege of Terra, traitors would have won.
@@takebacktheholyland9306 Sorry for all the paragraphs.
I know you’ve covered them a bit in the past but would you do a dedicated video on the enslavers? I just think they are cool
He really is! I’m glad people are recognising his awesomeness
Iron Within
6:48 even before he goes and picks up Angron the Iron Warriors are shown to be giving the Ultramarjnes and all other loyalist forces hell throughout the galaxy. Perty had his troops thinned out to basically take everyone on at once while the other legions waffled about. They were hard carrying even before the siege.
Hell fucking yeah! Iron within, Iron Without.
Yay!! Giant hentai demon vagina rape monster daemunculaba. ....oh wait.... yeh ... iron warriors did that....
Gotta say, I didn't think much of Perturabo until reading the Siege of Terra series. He goes straight OG on Horus. Mad respect for him now.
Him, Alpharius and Gorrillaman, power of logistics, three most powerful primarchs by a long way. Magnus firing mindbullets or the lion being good in a duel isn't on the same level....
The death of Urda. I will not stop asking Majorkill.
Perty and Mortarion basically hard carried the heresy
FINALLY we've got some spotlight for my iron boi, the most tragic primarch and with the most criminally untouched potential (imho). Good vid, mate🤙
The problem with the traitors is that Magnus and Konrad don't wanted to destroy the Imperium like Perturabo and others.
Implying you know wtf the Alpha Legion even want but yea
@@Freedmoon44 not even Alpha Legion know that they want.
Honestly. put that barbell on his shoulder and started taking steps, like, "Pirty, chill."
