I have been using Reshade since the early days of Fallout 3.
So much so, that the moment I started playing Final Fantasy XIV back in Shadowbringers. I instinctually had to use reshade. It all felt so washed out.
I even made a guide and threw it on RUclips. However. Reshade has had a lot of updates, as well as the UI fix for Final Fantasy XIV. And do we even mention the Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail Update?! All of these things have changed how reshade works. So It's time to make an updated guide to keep everyone looking fantastic. My Last Guide was all the way back at the begining of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker. So now is a better time than any to update your reshade and avail of the 8.0 look.

Thanks! I was having the washed out problem. This is me showering you with praise. You're just wet with praise.
@TrentMenssen incredible image 😂 Glad I was help out kn some way!
If it's too dark for you then try changing Curves.fx mode from Luma to Chroma. Literally no clue why but this dramatically helps.
Edit (9/22/2024) I'm getting extra stuttering with one or more of these effects lately and I've personally had to stop using this preset.
It heavily depends on the monitor you are running, can effect the white and black levels, causing it to be brighter or darker. Swapping the format can improve on this
This helped. Chroma for the win.
@@DyingLegacy there's also a "Luma and Chroma" option, how might that work?
@@TheAzureGuardian It's in the value settings, just click it
Thank you so much! This is my first time using Reshade and it looks beautiful 🤗
@maretama very very glad I could help you out!
Something worth mentioning, if you use DLSS and have an MXAO shade setting on in reshade and experience player ghosting around your character, it’s due to the DLSS. You’ll need to disable one of the two to fix it.
@@JFuego it will happen with both rescale options! Just to add to this.
i think you can switch something on reshade to fix it
i remember having same problems with DLSS and FSR on PSO2NGS before i turn that one checkmark on in depth setting
but i forgot the name of
edit : ah right! it was "Use extended aspect ratio heuristics" back on reshade 5, so possibly on Reshade 6 it was on that aspect ratio heuristics dropdowns
Just in time I remember using the original guide and since my health is good and I can play again was looking for how to re-install it again 😊
Congratz on your health! And glad I could help out again!
thanks man, been looking for a guide for reshade since Dawntrail drop
@@CharonLure Happy to help!
Appreciate the updated guide! Though I will say this is not for weaker GPUs. Running a 3050 6GB in a Thin'n Light for work, and it tanked the FPS from 100 to 72 😁

@@DyingLegacy
The only thing I had to do differently from the video was editing global preprocessor definitions to change
RESHADE_DEPTH_INPUT_IS_REVERSED
from 0 to 1
cause the shaders relying on depth were wonky
@@braelockhart5747 That is actually for most mmos now. Mostly affects chroma screens and stuff, And weirdly it can be set differently per game. On Guild wars it's already set to 1. But needs to be 0 for instance.
@@DyingLegacy
That's weird but also good to know
@@braelockhart5747 It's handy information to know regardless of what you are doing :)

It's impossible. The difference is night and day 😂
Thx my guy I was wondering why my game looked so crappy compare to everyone else.
Glad I could help. We all had that feeling before hand!
Hey there! I was just wondering if I could get your preset, I really like the way how you have your reshade set up.
Discord server has it
As I did before, I'll take a look at your settings and maybe remix and match with my own. While I love mine, never hurts to see how best to optimize visually and for fps.
Gotta share yours sometime! So I can mix and match at times too!
@@DyingLegacy Will have to. :)
@@PeninaChan Set in stone now xD
my only issue is that the ui fix disables all the effects for some reason. If I delete it, it works but unfortunately my UI will look wierd.
@umomo1947 That's incredibly strange... Are you enabling any other addons?
@@DyingLegacy nope i did a fresh install just in case. the only thing i did after was install ipsushade preset. I tried using other presets but its the same issue.
@@umomo1947 If you are using keep ui, then that is the issue. That is from GShade not reshade. That's causing a conflict.
@@DyingLegacy I have keepui disabled and enabling it doesn't do anything noticeable anyways.
@@umomo1947 keep ui and restore ui are the gshade version of shader toggler. So you can't use them together. Is what I am saying. That's what was probably making it weird.
Hey thanks for the video, great simple guide and works well. Only issue I have is that my map is really bright, any suggestions on how to tone that down at all?
@@trenacvalvalion7016 The map is bright? What about the hud? The ini file and addon are supposed to bring that down. Otherwise lower your gamma a bit

see after you checked and unchecked all, i checked all and it jumped me straight into finished the installing... i'm not sure what happened it just happened but so far the graphic looks almost as good as yours so. im sorta happy... would love to know more tho of why it didnt give me the reshade option before finishing the installation like yours did.
@@lThellRockl Because you didn't choose reshade with addon support. You took the first option
@@DyingLegacy can i redo? whenever i go into a teleport all the writings and the chat box lit up like a 4th of July. its super blinding :(
@@DyingLegacy alos, it didnt allow me to choose ANY add-on. it just skipped and went straight into the installation.
@@lThellRockl I slnt know what's up with that. I'd say a full redownload. Maybe as that's really strange
@@lThellRockl That's down to not getting the addon. Boot up reshade. Uninstall from ff14. And then redownload reshade - with addkn support. And do it again
Anyone else not having REST show up even when you install the addon version + put REST in the correct folder?
Check REST's Read me file. otherwise try a clean install of reshade. So far I haven't heard of anyone saying that it never appears. Besides yourself.
Thank you for the tutorial! If you don't mind answering - How do I export the preset I created or save it? It restarts to normal when I relaunch the game. Thank you again in advance ^^
Set Final Fantasy XIV to run as Administrator!
Game looks great, thank you

Yeh, this didn't work to solve the HUD bloom. I tried reloading shaders and even going through everything step by step a second time.
Everything is super blooming at the HUD and dialogues
@@lukeparsons1187 The shader toggler is not installed properly then.
@@DyingLegacyHrmm yes, I don't see that option at the bottom like yours. I thought maybe it something to do with my version of reshade.
In any case I have found a preset now that works for me. I was mainly looking to add more HDR without it being too dark and I have managed to do it, somehow, and dialogues are much easier to read now.
@@lukeparsons1187 Glad to hear you found something! When your downloading reshade it gives you the option of downloading two. You download the one with addon support.
Hi, very good video, one question though why check the "Copy depth buffer" i didnt get it why ?
Because it needs to read the depth buffer to differentiate between the hud and landscape. reads it as a 3d space rather than 2d. otherwise it would apply the effects to your hud lighting it up like a Christmas tree.
@@DyingLegacy I see, thanks for the clarification
@thevalkeir5813 Glad I could help out!
Hello, your video was very easy to understand and helped me with installing reshade. I have one question at 4:12 , how do you get your dungeons and trials to look all dark like that?
My vision is kind of poor and then I do have a hard time seeing the telegraph markers or even some other boss mechanics. With how it looks at that point in the video, I can see everything pretty clearly without strain on my eyes. If you could answer that would be awesome. Keep up the good work.
That would be the preset I am using. It adds a bit more shadow and contrast. Plus it has added bloom. My ingame gamma is set to 50 aswell. Plus that's pvp so players attacks are gonna be a lot brighter as they aren't markers or mechanics.
@@DyingLegacy Thank you so much for your answer. I’ll try to figure out how to get my shadows like that, I’ll play with it a bit more
@AyooLink yeah at the end of the day it's best to make it your own! Make sure to try out the settings for each effect as well, as I showed mine during the video.
I did everything to a T, checked back to make sure I did everything correctly 2x, and reshade is NOT propping up upon open xiv. Could it be because I use XIVLauncher? Before my partner moved everything to an SSD, I had reshade installed-- with one issue, it wasn't me who installed it, and now i'm lost. :(
Make sure it's the right .exe file first of all. Then make sure there isn't any lingering files on another storage. Depending how ff14 was moved to the ssd, some files can be left over
Can i remove all shadows from characters/places using this?
is there a way to do this only using a normal addon from XIV launcher?
@@gustavotm123 You could go to the shadow settings in ff14 itself. As for the addon removing them completely. I don't know. But 14 itself may.
Having an issue where the text is too bright when transitioning between zones, like when its displaying the name.
@@lando_ch0n748 turn off the smaa and amd sharpening. They're doing it.
It's supposed to work with a Custom Launcher right ? I did everything step by step but I can't get the Reshade menu at the launch of FFXIV.
I use steam. I don't use a custom Launcher. I showed you the steps for that. You'd have to check your custom launchers forums unfortunately.
Thanks for this! I lowered the intensity of a lot of the values to my own personal taste, but I am noticing skin looks a bit too shiny for me, especially at night... like they've been oiled up a bit... can anyone point me to which setting amongst the ones in this video I could change that might make the skin less shiny? tia
@vegagalactic865 it might be the bloom effect, there is a value to dip bouncing light there I believe
thanks for this
Glad to be of service!
Thanks man
@@NightpireVideos Glad I could help!
Great video, btw. When I installed Reshade 6.1.1 a while back. I didn't select REST in the add-ons. Nore downloaded the reshade ff14 file from git hud. I had no idea it was a thing. But the ui in my game is fine. Haha. I never had a problem with the FF14 ui. Is that shader ff14 stuff necessary?
If you aren't using keep ui it can be necessary. As the shaders effect the ui otherwise. But that foes depend on the shaders you are using. Plus keep ui adds a weird box glitch to some of the job gauges. Otherwise it's only necessary if you deem it to be :)
@@DyingLegacy Thank you.

thank you i just followed your guide since i had the issue before the resahdeeffecttoggler but when i got it and install it in the right folder im still getting the same blurry bright pale screen when the shaders are off. Fixed it by turning off AUTO HDR
Ah yes the dreaded auto HDR! Glad you got it sorted!
My shaders only work in cutscenes for some reason? But when I toggle off the effect shader toggler group "UI" the shaders work, but it doesn't work with the HUD. I've tried finding resources for this online and I can't find anything :(
Are you using keep ui?
when I install ReShade it doesn't ask me what Add-Ons I'd like to install. It skips from shaders straight to finish installing
@Kusabiii you installed the basic version and not the version with addon support. Choose option two. Not the first one.
Heyas, thanks for the guide! I do have a problem. I followed your guide and Ipsusu guide to the letter, however, the shaders don't work, don't apply at all. I'm not using KeepUI (I actually deleted it to be sure) and I'm using REST. The shaders simply do not apply. I've tried changing the REST options to exclude effects, and when I click the UI menu in REST, they suddenly apply. I've tried to select there the effects in question, however they end up applying the colour and edge sharpening to the icons, letters and make the menus (like the character menu) transparent.
What am I doing wrong? Every guide just says to install REST and that's it, but it's just not working for me. I don't wanna use KeepUI because it needs FXAA and gives that weird boxes around the UI elements, but I'm tired of trying to get the shaders to work.
First off. Install rest from the reshade menu. The go and get the shader toggler from git hub and put that into your final fantasy folder. when you oprn final fantasy 14, you then have to go to the addons section of reshades ui. and enable shader toggler. At this point, you are better off completly uninstalling reshade and starting again. Just incase something went arry a long the way. Also make sure you are using reshade with addon support.
awesome video! I hope a +1 in the subs can help
I'll always appreciate a +1! Thank you
I have try for realistic life preset but is very dark and with a 4080 super in 4k fps are kinda meh along it give lot of red errors in the preset itself.
@Fheara_Nyakki What are the red errors? Some are covered in the comments, others are for not having the appropriate shaders downloaded. As for the performance. Shouldn't be much of an impact as I myself am using a 4080.
@@DyingLegacy Many actually, autoexposure.fx, aberration.fx, colorband.fx and more. And thats updating reshade plus following the guide both from realistic life and video although I feel realistic life preset is outdated or something because it say "Erase Reshade Preset config" but I dont have any .cfg files, only .ini (unless it meant to say ini). Procedure was, reinstal reshade, choose update both effects and reshade, api dx9/10/11, uncheck and check all and next select REST. Then went in game choosed the realistic life preset and all was very dark.
@@Fheara_Nyakki For the dark part, just go to the in game settings and change the gamma, there's a gamma bug that happens when it's set to 50 on the dot. The preset itself may have a readme. Use it if it does, as it may have many extra shaders you have to get yourself. But the gamma being set to 50 can make everything super super dark. Setting it to 51 or 49 can fix that. If it's the bug.
@@DyingLegacy Sadly the only readme from the preset is instructions and pointing at your guide at the end, but it doesnt say what else need. And same from the mod page. But I will check for the gamma. Although the effect make my amp extreme 4080 super having fans spinning as hell that it seem having a turbine under pc...
@Fheara_Nyakki I have literally just ddu-d my graphics driver a few minutes ago as its been doing that the past couple of days. I think that's actually a driver issue coupled with the new windows update. Still shouldn't have errors, though. I'd say reinstall reshade, and make sure to check every single shader box. And make sure the relevant addons are installed. Sometimes fresh is best.
When i click to change something it always pop up a message that says unable to save config make sure file permission are set to allow write
Try running ff14 with admin permission

Followed your guide but ther'es no menu popping up when I launch the game. Not sure why
@@CasualReaper wrong .exe file
My problem is during active quest and after completion the mini map doesn't have icons on where they are located half the time unless im missing something in the hud Editor i have to always press Y to open the block map and constantly open and close to get where im going .
The minimap really only shows the area of the map it's on. It doesn't point towards things. Most of us just use the block map
Mine still says that it has issues loading in some effects. Any Idea why? Mine is specifically the qUINT_ssr.fx and the RetroTV.fx effects.
It might be to do with reshades update. Some effects may need to be updated themselves. It's my only guess.
you probably have a previous installation of gshade shaders. or you downloaded the zip from the "gshade to reshade migration guide". delete the reshade-shaders folder from your game path and just follow this video to the letter.

Do you have any recommendations for getting rid of glare / bloom that is caused by the in game settings? Ever since the graphics update You cant fully turn it off in system settings anymore. All the Aetherytes and other things with light sources have no visible details due to the glare / bloom.
@@HaddaClu Check that it's not your ingame detail settings like dls or fsa causing blur first. As I show you xity aerherites in the video that are very detailed! With added bloom. Try putting fsa on 99 rather than 100, That seems to work for a lot of people

@ReaperofKings Turn off all the settings and check them one by one until you see it happen. So you know what settings causing it. And then don't use that setting.
@DyingLegacy yea, I found it pretty quick. Was the MXAO immerse.. disabled it, and no more shadows
@ReaperofKings After some testing I found using mxao immersive and fsr set to anything but 100% causes this to happen with it. Not sure why. Seems to work best with dlss set to 100%.
