You can have a visual scale of intensity. Yellow=2 TNT Orange=5 TNT Red=8 TNT (or whatever) That way, you can use a few different types of HollyPops in a map
Couldn't you use paintings with these? And wouldn't it take fewer fired arrows? Limits the directionality, but could use two paintings to change that. ;)

Also - I was impressed with your advice to map makers on consisrency. That is a core part of my map ratings as well, and I think you would make amazing maps (adventure or other)!

That last one, room with low roof. Lava in room above too. Explodes, lava falls all over the room too, would look pretty nice. Better yet, wooden building, stone roof, lava falls down and ignites the building. Could be used as a sort of "time before you die" timer. Admittedly it would be once only, so you could place really good things in there that aren't vital, just really helpful.
This is sort of unrelated but how about this: Have a trap trigger via spawning a mob on to a pressure plate when the player gets close enough; it triggers a dispenser to shoot arrows rapid fire style into every side of a TNT block, then when the player enters, place pressure plates or something and have it detonate the TNT. That would be awesome!

Now rig a big one of these up in the middle of a large room, make a ton of dispensers with arrows pointed at it, and force someone to systemattically destroy the dispensers in order to disable the thing without blowing up whatever treasure in in the middle. It would not be too different from a regular redstone tnt blast, but would be more spectacular.
They would be great in an adventure / survival map but you should colour code the different types of explosions and list them in the forum post when you put the map up for download. Similarly you can make a similar thing without the boat using a fishing rod or snowballs + paintings. Or ice bowling with any other item, in case you want to switch it up.
These could be used to make doors which open only if you shoot the target, or would also be used as a shooting range. You could be very adventurous and add a counter where further targets increment the score multiple times :) Only reset would be adding the boats again
use them, but change their power, don't keep them all the same (necessarily) on the adventure maps. That way the player has to take a risk when using one. If you're trying to make maps as hard or harder than Vechs' add elements of risk to your map by making hollypops unpredictable.
I got an idea: minecart on top of a detector rail on a floating block with red torches on all sides, 1 redstone underneath each torch and tnt in the corners, next to the redstone. It will be better because there wont be blocks in the corner blocking. Forgive me if someone else thought of it first.
I'm wondering if you might be able to get some use out of a painting instead of a boat. It means one less hole the player could shoot through, but I'm pretty sure paintings only need one shot, whereas the boat seems to need multiple. (Though I haven't tested it with a 1.8 chargeshot)
Hey etho, a long time ago, i came up wth this idea, but then using paintings, wich drop onto presure plates, but since the way they pop of the wall is random, it didn't always landed on your pressure plate, so you needed multiple of them. But thisxis also cool and compact :)
for an adventure map make green and black 1 tnt yellow and black is the one u showed it the beginning of the episode then orange will be bigger (the one u start at 6:15) then red will be even bigger and maybe even an all black one
EthosLab: Do you know AdventureCraft? It's perfect for custom maps. (Cryect2 made it, he's on youtube. Please look him up!) Its basically a different game using the minecraft engine. Does not require modding minecraft itsself. I hope you read this :)

Now that 1.8 is out, you really should create a new map for episode 101 instead of going far out on your old one.
Also when 1.8 comes out you won't need to shoot it twice to destroy the boat I don't think, just a charged shot.
