Yes… you guys are the most authentic people doing what you guys do, and your experiences and willing to share with all, whom are interested to move out of this hell hole created by the next leader of the free world, and 34 counts of criminal changes, and by the United States citizen. It has make this great country to hateful behavior toward different races. The world is small based on what we can do for each other and to the world …. Started with kindnesses.
I love this video. Several months ago, we began talking about a move to France. We are about 4 years from retirement, and just like you mentioned about yourselves, we also are in a very good and comfortable place in our lives. There's just something about this internal desire that we both feel to live out our remaining years in France. So... we, too, have started investing in ways that will help us to meet our goals. Ours is a 3-year plan to buy a home or apartment --southwest France, Tours or Dijon are top picks. Then we'll start the long-term visa process. Thank you so much for your channel! We've really loved watching your videos and learning all about your journey!
Great video, I never knew there was so much planning that had to go into moving. I came to france in around 2004, 24 and no family, with just a backpack, slept on public benches, ate at resto du coeur, and worked my way up from there. Getting a job and everything. I also had dual citizenship so that helped a ton with paperwork. Anyway great video and very informative. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, having dual citizenship is a great gift. But what you did still required a lot of that last magic ingredient...courage! But yes, I think this stuff gets a lot more complicated once you have a house, kid, career, etc rooted in one country or the other and you don't have a corporate job or the military to move you abroad. So glad you went for it. Thanks for sharing your story and watching!
Really enjoying the content. But still have some logistics questions: 1. Did you sell the rental to provide the funding for the move, or is that still producing cash flow for you and being a landlord from another country? (If the latter, the *how* to be landlord from another country would be great future video content.) 2. How did you figure out the comfort #$ of being able to say we have X amount in retirement that can grow 'til we come back'. From the FIRE camp, itd be about 25x annual expenses to "retire", but since this is an earlier effort, can you provide guidnance on finding that comfort #$ 3. I know R has mentioned her job being able to travel, has your hushand been able to expand his previous experiecne to pivot to something local or is it more a digital nomad employment? Thanks again for the content. - Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Nice, thanks for the video and info. I like getting into planning, mindset, finances, etc. As someone possibly in a similar situation wanting to move to Europe and having a young daughter. BTW, as I'm sure you know, France is the S tier, gold standard for US retirement accounts and tax treaties in Europe... They recognize Roth contributions, among others. (I'm not a tax expert) I'm rambling here, but the problem with France for my family and I is that pesky language! We have English & Spanish fluency with some German skills. Oh well, we'll figure it out :)
Hey ! If you have Spanish fluency, don't worry about French : they are both Latin languages, you won't be lost 😉 The tricky thing, I must confess as a Frenchman, is the pronounciation. A bit like English for strangers : lots of silent vowels or consonnes.
Satanée langue 😢 Vous est il arrivé d’être arrivé dans un pays où le policier vous reproche de ne pas parler la langue du pays ? 😢 Moi oui et ! Tout policier qu’il fut, il a compris C q’est un français en colère ! Alors svp cool jeune 😂 CHUT
In this video you recommend a financial youtube channel, I thought you said Financial Chartist or perhaps Artist, either way, I can't seem to find it and I don't see it referenced in your show notes. Can you clarify what that channel was? I love your channel and getting ready to take my own leap to France later this year.
Great video! From this video and prior videos, I have the impression that your daughter was open to (if not excited about) your move to France. I have a 10 and 7 year old and whenever I have floated the idea of moving to France (or any other country for that matter), my kids communicate a strong disinterest in the idea. I - as a 40 year old corporate lawyer - would welcome and appreciate a break - but my kids don’t share that perspective of wanting a break from anything here in the U.S. I assume you would have still have pursued the move to France even if your daughter was strongly opposed?
This is a great question but not an easy one. I think for kids, the whole world is the one you know and if it's pretty great, why leave it??? Juliana had traveled a bit before and thought it was fun. We had some friends (we interviewed them on the channel) who had already done it she could talk to, and she had some curiousity about learning another language. Ultimately, yes, I think we would have gone even if she was more resistant. I spoke to as many adults as I could who lived abroad for some amount of time as kids and every one talked about how much they appreciated the experience. Some as it was happening, some as they got older. So i think we figured that just like other decisions we made because we thought it would develop her as a person, this was one more. Thanks for watching. 🙂
Thank you for the thoughtful reply! Great points. There are all sorts of decisions that we parents make, which our kids may or may not appreciate at the time. I’ll stay tuned to your channel!
Thank you for all the info! I have been watching a lot of your videos. You may have answered this already but regarding remote work/business ownership, did you get a particular visa to be able to do that? I know there are several types of visas but I would want to continue working (I am a remote business owner) Thanks again for your informative videos!
You're in a great position! Assuming you're not in a "regulated profession" in france like something medical, legal etc, you can likely qualify for the "entrepreneur Professions libéral" visa. Checkout our video with Valerie from startabusinessinfrance.com for more.

Excellent1 I agree, sometimes you just have jump into the unknown. We did the same, the best 3.5 years of our family's life.
I think you two are one of the most authentic and helpful people on RUclips! Thank you so much.

I knew some of this, but had no idea it was a SIX year plan. So admire y’all’s courage and this adventure you’re on!

Courage est le mot clef. Chapeau !
Thank you so much for the word of encouragement ❤
The journey starts with single step, or a six year plan. ✨😊✨ Your videos have been so helpful, thank you for paving the path.
Could you please make an episode on the schools in France? How did you choose the city to live in?

Maybe the French border with Spain??? 😉 You'll find the right place. Having any sort of second language skills is huge!! Good luck!

Sure! It's Financial Tortoise: ruclips.net/user/taekimfinancialtortoise
Thanks for watching and good luck with your move! 😊
can you be a bit more specific about a "nest egg" amount? So we. have some idea of what you planned to get you thru a year? 5 years? How much money?
