- You asked and I'm answering! In today's video I'm sharing why and how I made the big leap and moved to Paris. Moving to Paris was a dream of mine and it all happened quite quickly and unexpectedly (and in the midst of a pandemic). While my journey was definitely unique, deciding to move to Paris was definitely the right decision for me.

Adriel, Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful testimony. I laughed and cried because it resonated with me so much. At the age of 61, I have decided to fulfill my dream by moving to Paris to get my master's degree. I have had quite a bit of trauma dealing with the loss of my mom and brother and recently I have been laid off so no job. It is scary but I am relieved because they did not value me. Like you, I have been crying and praying and God had me find this video because of your incredible faith, you encouraged and inspired me to believe harder and take the leap that our Father will catch me. What a powerful story! I too have had two times in my life when everything lined up so easily for me and it was clear that God had made it happen. I love hearing other people’s stories like this. One day, I too plan on moving to Paris. Not sure when yet but I know it will happen.
Yeah it’s really powerful when it happens. I was the same way - I knew my move to Paris would happen and one day it did. So just trust in that. And let me know how I might help.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I just came across your channel looking up ‘living in Paris. Now I have to watch your older videos to still get an idea. I have adult family that live there so it’s was easy for when I visit, but for fall 2024. I had planned a scouting trip in Aug 2023 and fell unexpectedly sick at end of July and was in unresponsive for 4 days and being in the hospital for 2wks. Took a few months to recover and not allowed to travel long distance. Now I’m treating myself on that scouting trip. I am binging on all channels that encourage people taking leaps and chances on alternative life. We don’t really know what the future holds. God will keep you where ever you are.
Oh I’m sorry you fell sick but I’m glad that you will be able to pick it back up this year. Things happen for a reason, even if it doesn’t always make sense; maybe something about this timing will be better.
I LOVE IT! I love your story and have been there. I understand your experiences in corporate America. Things fell into place for you and just love that it happened like this for you. I've been there! Being the only African American woman librarian in my department in higher education was not fun.
I was so grateful my husband supported my decision to go back to being a children's librarian.
I laugh and smile every day. My students & my children bring me more joy❤

I used to work with a woman who was in higher education before becoming a lawyer. The stories she told me were just crazy. I’m glad that you’re happier now as a children’s librarian. I can tell you that some of my strongest & best memories are the afternoons we spent at the library after school. My mom would bring us there and let us read for as long as we wanted. We looked up to our librarians so much.
That makes my heart smile ❤ Thank you for taking the time to share that with me. I spent 7 years as an academic librarian & I'm grateful I made the switch.
I can recall my mom taking me to the library as a little girl as well. My students say they love reading & look forward to me reading to them & that means everything to me.

OH MY GOSH - I'm sure! I refuse to ever experience a Chicago or Michigan winter again. Haha.
Quite a story to tell your children. But I was thinking back to when I returned to DC after studying abroad to a country where women could not get a credit card without their husband or father’s signature, where women had secretarial jobs no matter their education and BTW routine sexual harassment was par for the course. I worked in a snake pit of an office on Connecticut Avenue and had to use all my ingenuity and strength to survive. It’s a long story but it took all I had and survive. I did by not letting others to define my role. Professional women in the workforce in 1970s had no choice but work twice as hard and put up with pretty intolerable circumstances because men didn’t really want them around. You could not change your circumstances but had to figure out how to outsmart them and beat them at their own game. Being underpaid was a matter of course. It all turned out well in the end because we made sure it did in spite of the circumstances. I am glad you are where you want to be today. I wonder where you are working now?
I now work for myself. I do business & legal consulting and I’m writing a book. Life keeps getting more and more interesting. And, I’m sure the snake pit in the 70s (especially in DC) was awful -
particularly since I wouldn’t say it’s much better now, which is sad. I’ve found though that I’m better able to advocate for people without being in the muck myself because it was too much for me.

Oh so cool that you lived in Paris and studied fashion. I used to live in DC (that’s where I was living before I moved to Paris). While I enjoyed DC, I’m happy to be where I am. And it’s not too late for us to cross paths - I think it’s time for another trip to Paris :)

Adriel, what a great real life story ! You are wise, resilient and adventurous. Life is absurd according to Albert Camus or impermanent according to Buddhism. You need to revolt and not allow absurdity or impermanence destroy you. To be happy or not ultimately comes from you - your thoughts and actions. Congratulations for overcoming hardship and having a fun, meaningful and positive life now. I love Paris myself. Thank you for sharing.

One more thing. Impermanence can also be positive according to Bouddhisme. Thanks to impermanence, we can grow up, overcome hardship, transform misfortune to joy..... Voila, life is like a rolling wheel, it's up and down..... and It's up to us to choose our paths towards happiness. I quote Confucius : "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."
I found your channel just now. Loved your story. I first went to Paris in 2000 and returned every year. I was actually there in March 2020 and had to return home after only two nights. I cried the entire flight back to California. Thank you for the info on the visa requirement. I have quite a bit of money saved so that when I retire in 2 1/2 years I can stay there for a few months. In the meantime I will return every year for a short visit. Since the pandemic, I will make my first trip back in September or October of this year. I am a new subscriber to your channel and Instragram!
Thank you. Its so unfortunate you had to return after only 2 nights. That whole time period was so rough. Yes, they also have a retirement visa which may be of interest to you. I did a whole video series on how to move to Paris and in video 1, I talk about visas. I’m happy you’ll finally be able to return again this year. A lot of businesses didn’t survive Covid but many did so hopefully your old haunts are still around.

Adriel: I can totally relate after 7 yrs in field of law. Really suffocating. Makes a difference if you work in a field of law thats interesting perhaps fashion, beauty, travel, etc. question: what are you going to do when you run out of money in Paris?
The field of law is so rough. The goal is to find my new career and passion before that happens. So fingers crossed.

Why did you decide Paris at the very beginning? Did you travel a lot there before? How was this city an evidence for you? Sorry for my poor English, I am better in French 😉
The first time I visited Paris I felt like it was home. And after that I just had to be here and I knew one day it would be my home!
@@adrielfelise donc tout s’explique… vous saviez qu’un jour vous vivriez à Paris, c’était une évidence, mais pour sauter le pas il a fallu de l’inconscience et un grain de folie et vous l’avez eu! Si on réfléchit trop dans ce genre de situation pour prendre une décision en général on évalue trop les risques, et il est fort probable qu’on ne saute pas le pas… mais avec de la détermination quand c’est une évidence, on fait fi des obstacles potentiels et on fonce, c’est ce que vous avez fait et c’est formidable 👏🏻
J’ai ressenti la même évidence pour HK lors d’un voyage, j’ai dit à mon mari qu’il fallait qu’on s’installe ici, je me souviens nous faisions la traversée sur le ferry. Et je me suis dit que j’aimais tellement cette ville, qu’elle m’appelait je ne sais pas comment l’expliquer. Bref voilà, depuis 9 ans c’est chez moi ici, je suis contente de rentrer à Paris l’été pour voir la famille et les amis mais je suis aussi très heureuse de rentrer chez moi à HK quand les vacances sont finies. Il est tard ici, je voulais vous répondre rapidement avec les mots juste donc j’ai écrit en français, j’ai cru comprendre que vous le lisiez parfaitement 😉 Mais je ferai l’effort d’écrire en anglais la prochaine fois
Love that for you. I went back to the U.S. last year for the first time since moving to France and I was SOO happy to return HOME to France. I had been hoping and praying that i would return to Paris and it would actually be my home and voila, now it is!

Great story! Would you mind sharing what it cost to ship your belongings?
I believe it was around $5000 to ship my 1 bedroom from DC. In retrospect, I wouldn’t have shipped ANY furniture except one pink fluffy stool and instead would’ve kept just the clothes, kitchen stuff, books, arts/crafts & the few decor items from my travels that I loved.
What visa did you get?
My initial visa was a visitor visa.
May I ask your age? I am 52 and would like the encouragement to remove this as a boundary/block.
My aunt is currently looking to move out of the US and she's in her 50s. My other aunt (her sister) doesn't want her to go. I'll tell you the same thing I told my aunt - you only get one darn life. Who cares what anyone thinks. Just plan it, and make it happen. And, don't share these dreams and desires with people who will not understand. Not everyone will understand another person's desire to move away from home, start their own business, or make a big leap. So, safeguard your hopes, dreams, and wishes from anyone who isn't going to root for you 100%; it doesn't mean that they don't love you, it just means they're happy on a certain path but that path may not be right for you. Age doesn't matter, just do it.
