Europeans are much more conservative using loans or credit cards. Its learning to live with less, or wait and its also cultural. We do have debt but its mainly on large purchases like houses and maybe a car (but its not always needed with our public transport). Americans get stuffed by the government and their idea of the American dream.

I’m a 60 year old American who had been told about the horrors of “socialist” universal healthcare in other countries for decades. Then I experienced it firsthand. I rolled my ankle on a cobblestone sidewalk and fell and broke my wrist and displaced two bones in my arm while on vacation in Ireland. We went to the ER of a local university hospital where I was charged $200 euros as a non -citizen. I was given immediate pain relief and had x-rays taken. As it was late night on a weekend and the ER was busy so there was a wait for the X-rays to be processed and read by a doctor. When they were returned, I was advised I would need surgery and had a very thorough discussion with the doctor about my options. In the end, I chose to top-cast my arm and wrist and have the surgery when I got home to the US. Because of my life long experience with American healthcare, I EXPECTED to be given prescriptions for pain killers, which I usually don’t even take but was cerrtain I would need to manage pain for our last few days in Ireland and the trip home. Imagine my horror and panic when they didn’t give me any. I was advised to alternate taking ibuprofen and acetaminophen, as needed. We traveled around Ireland for eight more days with my arm in a half cast and sling and did just fine without prescription painkillers. I got home and had surgery and had to pay a couple thousand dollars in deductibles despite having healthcare insurance. And yes…as I was being discharged, I was offered prescriptions for painkillers. I declined them. About a month later I received a letter in my mailbox from the hospital in Ireland. I was expecting to open it and see a bill for hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, for the treatment I received there. It was just a receipt for the 200 euros I paid that night as a non citizen. It was all a very eye opening experience. While the ER in the hospital in Ireland was a lot more dated looking than I’m used to as an American living in a big city, the healthcare I received was every bit as good. But two things really astonished me…. 1. That we, in the US, are MUCH, MUCH, MUCH MORE dependent (and addicted) to pharmaceuticals than people in other countries. 2. The locals we met and talked at great length in the ER that night were grateful for the healthcare they were receiving. They didn’t mind if they had to wait because they knew they weren’t going to possibly be facing n astronomical bill or worse, medical bankruptcy, because of an injury or illness.

You hardly ever see transphobia in Australia and when you do it’s from a minute number of people. It’s getting very worrying over there concerning the health, safety and well being of trans Americans, especially with the incoming administration.

Hey guys, enjoying your content, but I would consider something as you move forward: In your earlier videos, you weren't using a teleprompter and, as a result, the "tone" of your vids was much more personable, as well as personal-feeling. I get the idea of "streamlining" information/content, but I would suggest that you might want to choose your subject, make some notes and simply talk about it...THEN edit the vid to amalgamate your ideas. Writing and following a tele-prompted script might seem like you're more "prepared" but, in the long run, this may not actually be a time-saving effort, or produce a more personal result(or be as fun to do). I am reminded of Sir David Attenborough who, in all his many decades of broadcasting, has never used a teleprompter and that really does come across. Even if you have some point-form notes to which you refer, you can always pause, talk through it (while recording) and then cut that bit out. my2cents. Bonne Fete and Bonne Continuation du Canada!

If you live in America with their economic model most people are just viewed by their economic, financial elite as good responsible exploitable resources who are there to pay the bills for the greedy criminal few at the top. Unfortunately this economic model has been sold and sometimes imposed on the rest of us in the world. This version of capitalism is proving to be counterproductive for the people of the world because it's based on total greed for a elite few.

My husband is French & he & his sister will order a coffee in sidewalk cafés. I’m not a fan of what is served-an espresso with a sugar cube, so I order a café crème or a café au lait. He was probably looking for something like that, but he was an azz, so he didn’t bother to learn a few words of French to order what he wanted. I’ve tried explaining to Americans that they likely won’t find what they eat at home, for example “A ham sandwich with Swiss cheese, lettuce & tomato” & it’s unlikely that the café would have all of those ingredients, anyway. What part of you are in a foreign country which has its own unique food & drink culture don’t they understand? Why do they expect people in France to speak what is to them, a foreign language?

There is (at least in some hypermarchés like Carrefour) an area called "Parapharmacie" selling all kinds of pharmaceutical cosmetics, hygiene, food supplements, and health and medical products that don't need a prescription. Plus there's generally one or more actual pharmacies in the "galerie marchande", the mall enclosing the supermarket. Please note I'm talking about large supermarkets, not the small city ones.

The USA is so large and prosperous that Americans do have most biosystems, etc. and anything "marketed", like a county's culture, IS "brainwashing". That term seemed to fall out of favour when the iron curtain came down and people realized that their "beliefs" were as ingrained as other people's beliefs ... and then "brainwashing" became a "dirty word". Next time you go to see an MD listen and see how often they say, "We believe ... ", or some variation of the "we" grouping.

Fantastic. I’m a Brit who spent 20 years working for a US owned business - worked with plenty of Americans who either had or gained a more international mindset when they worked in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Visited over a dozen states in the US for work or on holiday, and have relatives in CA. There’s lots to love about the US, but your observation about ‘freedom to’ vs ‘freedom from’ really highlights the key difference for me. Sadly, the polarisation in US politics is seen elsewhere; I hope that politicians of all sides (and people) will see the value in understanding each other rather than talking past each other. We all deserve better politicians and leaders.

Meeting American for the first time in the early 80's, my mouth was open to the level of ignorance and lack of education they exhibit. The sad fact is, not much has changed in the past 40 years. Most Americans have an astounding little knowledge of the world around them. A great example is how little they know about this little country called Canada just next to them. And without knowing anything about French water I have no doubt it is much better in quality than ANY US municipality water.

Any guidance, or video on that issue? I also note that France, unlike Italy (except for luxury homes), has property taxes. If I understand your situation at this point, you rent, so I guess you aren't concerned with that.

This whole “America vs. Europe” thing is nonsensical. The USA is huge. To imply that the values prevalent in New England are the same as in Wyoming or Louisiana is beyond simplistic. Similarly, Spaniards living in Southern Spain have very different lifestyles than Germans in Hamburg. And then the gun cliche, again! Outside of crime infested inner cities the homicide rate in the USA is very low. Check the figures; they’re widely available online. Even overall, the USA does not have the highest homicide rate, or violent crime rate, in the world. The gun ownership statistic is thrown about with horrified gasps, but most of those 300-million guns are shotguns and hunting rifles. Yeah, you can use your gun to defend yourself, but I don’t know anybody who ever has had to. It’s not a daily gunfight at the OK Corral, at least nowhere where I have lived. I am a Brit who now lives in the USA. I have travelled the world extensively. The only two continents that I have not visited are Australasia and Antarctica. I have lived for extended time (over a year at a time) in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The only places that I have personally been the victim of a crime were Germany and Canada. Yet, I have been lectured to by citizens of those countries (some of the relatives of mine) about the crime and violence in the USA, smugly informing me how “safe” their countries are, and how “violent” the US is. I can agree that the US healthcare system is not ideal, but I can also tell you horror stories about the UK’s NHS (Universal Healthcare) that involved my father’s treatment and that of friends of his. One man that I knew was dying of Liver cancer that was diagnosed too late by the NHS doctors. In fact, it was not diagnosed by a doctor at all, but by a physical therapist that he had been referred to by the doctor for back pain. He was sent to hospital, but wanted to go home to die in his own home with his family. They could not get him out of the hospital because the lift (elevator) was broken down and would not be fixed for days. His story is anything but unique, sadly. America is undoubtedly flawed. But so is everywhere. The expat Americans who move to France, or Spain, or Portugal and “get religion” about how great Europe is and how the US sucks are just annoying, frankly.
