I think as the series went on, we all didn't give two sh-ts about the CHUMPINGS (aka Royal f**kups) after all their blunderings, their horrible actions and their sanctimonious belief that they were somehow better than others (Regina, Maleficent, et al) and wished that Regina put US out of THEIR misery!

By the time they wrote that, they were just throwing out filler to finish up Season Six so they could get on to Season Seven and focus purely on Rumple and Regina. So we had Hook touring the realms and all the rest of it. We saw how season seven worked out.
