The fact that he plays pretty much two separate characters and does them both so brilliantly is mind blowing. I fell in love with both Mr.Gold and Rumpel from the beginning. Robert Carlyle is SERIOUSLY underrated.
Robert Carlyle deserves more credit but the whole entire cast did amazing. They all became my favorite versions of the characters. If they ever saw this comment you all did amazing. I seriously wish there was more and more I really enjoyed it very much.
I love the earlier season's Rumple. He wasn't physically intimidating being small and scrawny, but he was probably the strongest character in the story.
The way Mr. Gold talks to Henry is kinda adorable and sad after we know that he's lost his own son. He probably still has fatherly instincts, especially toward the boy. And henry's all like "Dude, you creep me out keep away"
(anyone who don't know.... spoilers below) Henry is prophesized to be his undoing, and at this point in time has full intentions of being rid of him one way or another when he gets the chance. Season 3 explains it in full.

Agreed. I just started watching, still need to catch up on season 1, but I'm looking forward to it, and this guy is why. I was kind of underwhelmed by the show and characters, nothing bad per say, just nothing managed to spark my interest. Then he showed up and I was instantly like drawn to him. So charismatic, yet has this sinister side, like you know he's up to something. He has this remarkable allure about him, a real joy to watch on screen. Great character, amazing actor, and one sexy dude.

of course he's boyfriendly but the only person he can tolerate is Belle. He would happily kill all of them the only reason he doesn't is because of Belle. He wouldn't mind flinging all of them hurting all of them the only person he would never harm is Belle. I'm pretty sure the only reason he would flirt with anyone is because he believed Belle died.

@Philip Tucker I believe the directors have weighed in on this, and said that Rumple was affected by the Dark Curse, the same as anyone else, however, in his specific case, it was broken on him when he heard Emma's name.

That would of be too easy. Belle and Rumplestiklin are more complecting because we didn't know that Rumplestiklin was as the beast and It came us guessing. But Regina and Rumplestiklin have the cutest scenes togther.
I like the three stages of Rumpel. We've got: Stage 1. Coward and pitiful man. Stage 2. Powerful and humourous man, who's still a little cowardly on the inside. And then finally, the fan favorite, Stage 3. Powerful and serious man who gets when he wants when he wants it, but is still a coward without his power and his cane. 😂
@99whatever99 Because in the fairytale land Regina's ( the evil queen) father was named Henry.To cast her spell she had to kill the person she loved the most who happened to be her father,Henry.So we can assume that she named her "son" after him. We can't be sure how much Mr.Gold knows about their past lives,but he aparently knows more that anyone else(except Regina of course).Hope this helps:)
