    I like that you speak on the entry level wages because most people talk about seasoned wages which most likely dont apply to anyone looking up these videos.

      Thanks for watching and for commenting. Absolutely - there is no sense lying to prospective people that’ll just turn them away. We need to be open and honest so people know what they’re getting into. Also, it IS a great way to make a living and enjoy what you’re doing but you need to put a little time in first. Thanks again and take care out there!

      Non union, mostly underground utility work. As for equipment, pretty much everything you can think of for dirt work. Pretty big excavators, dozers, backhoes, minis, skid steers. Ext

    I live in Indiana and work a non union job. I started at $19/ hr but that could be because I came from driving a tri-axle. I have been operating for 4 years and am currently at $25/hr. I’m not positive of what the high end is, but I believe it’s about $35/ hr. Good operators are hard to find. If you are willing to put in the work, the sky is the limit.

    Nice video man ! Thank you for the information ! I live in alberta too and i have always been interested in heavy equipment, ive been researching on indeed and found almost all jobs operating heavy equipment start at 30$ and can reach 50$ specially in the northern alberta region, are those the 2024 wages ?
    Also I have found a school called IHE in edmonton that offers courses to operate heavy equipment , they have a course that is learning to operate an excavator, grader, dozer, articulated rock truck, loader, rubber tire backhoe in 12 weeks (455 course hours), would you encourage me to enroll in it and will it make it easy to find a job once once i finish the courses ?
    I also want to operate heavy equipment for a few years, save a few bucks and buy my own excavator or dozer, i would like to know how much money can i make operating my own machine ? Is it hard to find work contracts or a company that is willing to sign me as an owner operator ?
    My goal is to start with one machine and then buying more and having my own company!
    Lastly, i have some back pain and issues (im 26 years old), not too serious but i cant do labour work or carry heavy stuff, i would like to know if operating heavy equipment requires to do heavy labour work as part of the job ? before getting my self into it because certainly cant do any labour work!
    Sorry for the long comment but i really like your videos and would love some information from you !

      Thanks for watching and thanks for the awesome questions.
      The wages you're seeing on Indeed should be current wages. The further North you go and more isolated, the better the wages. You do sacrifice however time away from home and family.
      Yes, we would recommend taking the courses. Nowadays it's getting extremely difficult to find an employer willing to take a chance on a "green" operator. They want some sort of certification showing they've at least learned the basics. The reasons of course come down to saftey and cost. The more inexperienced the operator, the better the chances of something going sideways.
      Love the idea of once you have experience, getting your own excavator and going out on your own. There will always be work out there for independent contractors. You can even work under larger ones a lot of the time so you don't have to have CORE and safety things like that which are quite expensive.
      As for your back - that's a tough one. Operating heavy equipment is hard on your body. The machines are rough, extremely hot/cold sometimes, and climbing up and down off of them can get challenging too. If you can get surgery or help with your back, we would highly recommend it. Being in a machine all day every day is demanding.
      We wish you the best and thank you again for the great questions. Keep us posted on your progress too. We always love to hear success stories. Take care out there!

      @@SoGoWoWo thanks alot for the info, well im a single guy so i dont mind going up north !
      Well i cant seem to do surgery and i guess ill have to live with it ! sitting all day is a problem but i think it becomes easy as long as i can turn off tye machine and have a 10 min walk every 2 3 hours of work ? Also is there a part of the job where i should leave the machine and do physical labor ?

    • @SoGoWoWo
      @SoGoWoWo  15 дней назад +1

      You should easily be able to get off every couple of hours and walk/stretch if you need. There may be times when physical labour is necessary but you can usually find the jobs that don't require it.

      @SoGoWoWo  9 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for watching and for commenting. That seems reasonable as a start with little experience and the fact you got a raise after a couple of months. Keep doing what you’re doing and your wage will keep going up right along with your experience. It’s the experience they’ll pay you for later - and it’s quite valuable. Thanks for watching and for commenting. To answer honestly - most likely not. You would most likely start in the mid to high $20’s. That said there are some union jobs with a very high starting wage. If you were able to get into a union you may very well start around there. Good luck out there.

    You know of any company hiring in Minnesota I have my letter eligibility for the local 49 that’s our heavy equipment operator union…I just can’t seem to get nobody to hire me. Yeah I’ll be an apprentice as well…but I’m willing to learn and this if definitely something I’ve always wanted to do and now I got the chance too!

    • @SoGoWoWo

      Hi Summer
      Great Question. There are definitely some different schools out there to help you learn to operate equipment. I will be doing a video on these in the near future. My best advice, stay away from schools that tell you it can be done in a couple of weeks. Like any trade, it takes time to learn the skills needed so watch out for the ones who promise you results in 2 to 3 weeks.
      Thanks for the question and keep watching for more info on this topic.

    Minimum wage in NY is $15 an hour and based off the national average for operator pay NY is one of the highest paid states to operate in. Most entry level operating positions start at 20-25 and hour with experienced operators making closer to 50 or more. Whatever source you used had to be outdated.

      Thanks for watching and for your questions. The things I recommend: on your resume, make sure all your spelling is correct. If/when given an opportunity - don’t lie about your abilities. Tell them your limitations but also tell them you’re willing to learn - which I’m sure you are. And finally work hard - don’t just do the bare minimum. Hard work will get a lot more than anything else.
      Things to not do: don’t let them mistreat you. Most places are very good to work for but there are a small percentage that aren’t. If you find yourself at one that isn’t, don’t stay there. Don’t be late - show up on time. Don’t complain about working. If you want to be an operator, you need to be able to work longer hours than most.
      I hope this helps and good luck out there!
