Everyone is nostalgic for the shows they loved as a kid, but this one scarred me for life when I was five. That's hilarious now because this show was super campy and I can't help but laugh at it, but back then I thought this particular episode was the height of cinematic horror. Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction was a ridiculous show, but it's peak 90s/early 2000s tv so if you're interested in throwback shows of that time I highly recommend you check out more episodes for yourself because its comedy gold. After you watch this video, of course...I promise that it's moderately funny. This is a commentary video on season three, episode nine and I'd love to know what you guys think. It includes the short stories For the Record, Halloween, Precious, Get Your Kicks at Motel 66 and Phantom Drifter. Yes, those are the real names, I wish I was funny enough to have made those up. Don't mind me, just binge-watching all of your Fact or Fiction-Videos. I loved that show as a child, even though it was so weirdly censored in Germany at times (the Halloween episode you discussed here got downright butchered to a point it makes little sense).
But can we please appreciate the dad in the cat-story for saying "teens are supposed to act eccentric"? Given how the stereotype for dads in 90s/00s series usually was more a "Go to your room young lady!"-guy, this is pretty sweet.
Oh, phew! I was worried the first story was going to end with them turning out to be twins.
That would have been much worse indeed. 😂

I recall this show. The one that freaked me and was said to be true; some dad sleepwalks and turns into a doll inside his daughter's doll house.
Oh dear God, I remember that episode! It terrified me!
yah I thought that one was fake... yes you can sleepwalk, yes some dolls are spirited, but just sleepwalking into it is impossible unless he died and he decided to go stay in that doll but even then it wouldn't look like him unless she already had a doll that looked like him

Trust me Mr Frakes you dont want to know. Just make sure you dont use a black light, some mysteries are best left unsolved.
I was watching the show with my folks when the show first aired, and when they came to the end, I pointed out how unlikely any of those stories were. My dad pointed out that it wasn't a matter of fact or fiction, but existing urban legend or show writers fabrication. I never watched Star Trek the Next Generation, but I can say that Geordie taught me that reading opens up a World of Magic, and Riker taught me that everyone is lying always. I really like your humor in these reviews. I hope the RUclips algorithms are kind.

Actually, it was not a matter of urban legend vs. fiction writing. You were supposed to believe that these stories were based on true events because of the “research” of author Robert Tralins…
Some of the stories marked “fake” were urban legends in fact. How credible the research was or the author who did the research is extremely questionable though, I find the whole thing hilarious, and I love this show so much.

It's funny how the ones that the ones where you think "No way that could ever happen" turn out to be real, while the ones where you think 'Yeah, I can see how that can happen" turn out to be fake.
I wish this show still came on. I miss it. I also like Tales from the Darkside.
Fun fact: The old legend about the hitchhiker who disappeared in the car was also the inspiration for Disney's The Haunted Mansion ride.

The show is super popular in Germany, for over 20 years the episodes are shown repeatedly whole Sunday morning. In 2012 they surprisingly discovered that it’s to creepy for children, and only then started to censor some episodes.
they even produced 2 new episodes hosted by Jonathan Frakes last year

The ghost cat 🐈 one being FACT was incredible shocking. Wish my cat would've come back.
The one we were really shocked that was FACT was the Blood Bank one.

It was always so creepy when one (or more) of the stories that scared me ended up being fact.
What's annoying is that they didn't explain the stories behind the fact ones. Like I'm just supposed to take it as "trust me"

OMG, I REMEMBER some of these segments! The Grim Reaper terrified me lol. And I remember the ghost cat. Wait, was there an episode of this show where there was a little girl hiding in a secret room/cellar of a family's house who didn't want to come out, and then when they checked on her they found a pile of her bones because [GASP] she was a ghost? I think it was from this show. Also, I remember an episode with a sleepwalker turning into a doll or something.
The sleepwalker doll was in another episode that I covered! And I feel like I vaguely remember the girl in the cellar one. I'll cover it if I can track it down.

I´ve got 3 right and 2 wrong. But I have to say, that I´ve cheated on the ghost-cat story, cause I remembered this story when I watched the show on television, that it was fact..... so yeah. Maybe I should say: 2-2, cause the ghost-cat story doesn´t really count because of that.

i loved this show growing up. The one I remember is the kid who would see a monster with the red eyes. When the parents try to invistigate they "find out" it was just the red lights from the thermostat (alarm or something). But as they pull away, they show the families nanny, and her eyes turn red.

Avery, have you ever watched Miracles and Other Wonders? They use a lot of stories from Robert Tralins also, and all the stories are supposedly true. A few of the stories from Beyond Belief are on there too (I remember the one where all the church choir members are later to practice and miss the church exploding and the one where the husband passes away and their small son ends up writing down information on where the bank security box is). They use the actual people who witnessed the stories also.

Thanks for the video, i think i would get a heartattack aswell, if i see the man with the mask at night. I sadly remember not the episodes that terryfied me the most. There is one episode with a mirror and a sludge woman that appears. Of course there where many others too that were scary but thats the one that i kept in my memoria. I dont understand why my parents were fine with me watching the series with 5ish years and other shows that were way less terryfing, i wasnt allowed to watch. Crazy that i get soon 22. (so long ago)

I think it was 98 and I was 10 at the time and the first episode I saw was the boy in the closet where the kid went into the closet in front of his brother sister and friends and just magically went missing. To this day I don’t fuck with closets.

How did the hitchhiker change their lives? He showed up, fixed their flat, spouted out some fortune cookie nonsense and just vanished. I mean other then scarring them when he vanished mid-drive. Outside of a weird anecdote, I dont see how their lives were changed in the slightest.

I loved this show as a kid
This was a show that genuinely creeped me out more than any other horror movies I've watched when I was younger LOL...This came out when I was about 9, and even though I knew the host's "dad" jokes were in itself beyond belief, many of the stories themselves and I think the music contributed to my scarring
I totally relate to that. I feel like part of why Jonathan frakes and also James brolin were there was to counteract the creepiness with dad humor. 😅

I liked the episodes about the jerk radio DJ who's son has an... interesting interpretation of "bring your kid to work day"... And the episode about the hateful grave digger who gets haunted by an old woman.

I remember nearly getting all right once.
It was a James Brolin episode. I had gotten the first 4 right but missed the last one.
It was the Wheezer and old man dying in the hospital ones I had guessed false on, but guessed true on the first other three.
I was so distraught.
Oh I hate that! I think there's one of the videos where I get four put of five right and I'm just so sad that I couldn't get them all. 😂

I totally forgot the story about the cat, that shit scared me so much as a kid. There were some more scary stories in the other episodes and I can't believe my parents let me and my brother watch this when we were like 10 and 6.

And it's pretty obvious to me why she thought of using the camera... and yes, they're sticking around or coming back sometimes, I've had cats and others my whole life almost, and some of mine stuck around for a little while or came to visit shortly after dying. (: so yes, very real.

Looking back I think all most all of those stories must be fake or changed so much for the purpose of entertainment that it lost their actual stories. For example there was a story about an old man bringing milk to a family every week and one day the milk metal canister acted crazy and the father took that canister and wanted to ask the old man why this thing acted crazy, when he found him having a heart attack and he was at the right time to save him. So the canister signals the family that the old man was in danger. But I think it was a case of earthquake. Having experienced an actuall earthquake I know that things shakes and acts crazy when an earthquake happens and I think for the sake of entertainment value the story was changed a little. For example maybe the canister shock a little and the family noticed it but it wasn't like in the episode shacking that much. That episode was from season 2 episode 1 I think.
This is why I think all most all of those stories can be considered as fiction because they are not fully to the content of truth but changed for the purpose of entertainment.
to be fair, it could be real, but it's still pushing it a little too... but they do seem to change stuff too
