    Nice rollers, good training method. Have you accidently stepped or kicked one of those turtles. They can be a tripping hazard.

      @TheHenriksenFamily  3 года назад +1

      Yes. They can really move, and they like to follow us around (wanting to be fed) so they can be a tripping hazard. Have to keep your head on a swivel.

    What size are your lofts or coops?

    • @TheHenriksenFamily
      @TheHenriksenFamily  2 года назад

      Lofts
      8 ft Wide x 3 1/2 ft Deep x 5 1/2 ft High
      20 Perches and 10 Nesting boxes
      (Prob would have gone a bit taller & deeper but wanted to fit into existing planter width and didn’t want it sticking up over block wall)
      Top Training Cage
      Main Part is 4ft x 2ft & 16 inches tall
      The front part that extends down to allow access to trap door is 20 inches wide x 12 inches deep and 3ft tall.

    how long should they be caged before I let them fly outside?

    • @TheHenriksenFamily

      (I am no expert) But I know it will depend on whether your birds were born and raised in your loft, or if they were purchased from another loft and brought to yours.
      Be sure you trap train them so they are very comfortable trapping back in. (not in this video, but I also CALL train them so I can call them back into the loft) Using the trap cage like I do will allow them to get on top of the loft and get to learn the surroundings so they can recognize home. I will put them up in the trap cage every day for about 2 weeks before letting them out free. Birds born in your lofts will see it as HOME, if they were bought from another loft, allow time to re-home them (6 months-year) and allowing them to raise some chicks in your loft will help. (but unfortunately, some birds will never re-home, and will always try to get back to their "home" loft whenever let out of yours.) Really will have to be a bit of Trial & Error.
      Be sure they are as Happy as Possible. Clean Loft, Not Over Crowded, etc. This will also help.
      Be sure they are hungry when you let them out the first time. They are not wild, so they rely on you for food and water. Try not to scare them at all, let them out and they will explore a bit and then you can feed and call them back in. (This is the scary part) Some may never come back in. If all goes well, and you have done your training and they are hungry and ready to eat, them most if not all WILL come right back in when fed and called.
      Hope That Kind Of Answers Your Question.
