1985 Jeep CJ7 Restoration by Miller Brothers Auto Repair

  • See more Jeeps at www.millerbrothersautorepair.com. This is a 1985 Jeep CJ7 that Miller Brothers Auto Repair in Somerset, WI performed in 2017 for one of our customers. The Jeep features a MOPAR fuel injected 4.2L engine with the T-5 transmission and Dana 300 transfer case. 2.5" BDS YJ conversion lift kit, 32x11.50R15 Mickey Thompson tires and wheels, Warn winch, air conditioning, GenRight Off Road TIG welded roll cage, heated Corbeau seats, powder coated chassis and roll cage, Borla stainless exhaust, RCV front axles, 1 piece rear axles, 4.10 gears, stainless fuel and brake lines, stainless attaching hardware.     40 year retired wrench here, and I have to say you guys do stunning and thorough work. If I was 20 younger would love to spend a summer working with you guys and see what I could pick up around there especially sourcing old parts. Great job guys, seriously!

    I just brought my 85 CJ7 Renegade from Connecticut to Florida. It needs a lot of work. I'm looking to restore it but it will take some time. Thank you for sharing love the video.

      jalend venn Thank you!! The cage was a kit from GenRight Off Road that we TIG welded, powder coated, and ran all the speaker wires inside the tubes.

    That looks awesome what kind of floor liner did you put back in there cuz I'm doing one now in 1984 CJ7 of course not as near as technical as yours I don't have the deep pockets but doing the best I can with what I got lol

      I agree, but this was a build for a customer and we had to find a nice base to start the project in the first place.

      @@aaronmiller3215 Yep, that looked to be a really rust free solid platform. I took a rust free 85 Laredo cj7 in Dark Night Blue to this level, only thing I added different were the Laredo graphics decals. These '85's have a ton more wiring than earlier units.

    A buddy of mine built one of these from the ground up for me with brand new parts and the defrost on the windshield doesn’t seem to be powerful enough. Any suggestions?

      Upgrade the blower motor to a 1972 Blazer blower motor, you'll have to enlarge the firewall hole but the results are worth it.

      It was offered through Genright Off Road to go with their full roll cage kit. I just went on their website, and I don't see it anymore.

    Is that a 2 in lift on 33’s? I’m trying to figure out what I want to do to mine and like a good reference. You had a sweet build. Did you do any performance mods to the engine. Stroke it out or anything.

      It's a BDS 2.5" YJ conversion lift with 32x11.50 tires. The engine is stock with MOPAR fuel injection.

      Hi Elias. This Jeep build cost $57,000 including the purchase of the original red Jeep. Every single nut and bolt was either media blasted and powder coated or replaced with stainless steel.

    What do you typically charge ?......I'm interested in an 85 CJ but want the new Cummins crate motor 2.8 and done like this blue one but I like a maroon color

      $57k including the purchase of the original red Jeep. Your results may vary. We have recently decided to discontinue restoring Jeeps as it is not a good use of our shop space at our auto repair facility. A restoration like this takes hundreds and hundreds of hours and in the end is not a profitable endeavor for us.

      We work with Somerset Collision for the paint and body work. I don't know the brand of paint, however the color is Ford Blue Flame Metallic, the same color they use on a 2015 F150.

      It was built for our client's teenage daughter. An LS swap would have been way too much power, not to mention the T-5 transmission would not survive.

      How is that any of your business? We were hired to build it for one of our clients to their specifications. When you get to the income level of the clients that have hired us to build them a complete custom CJ like no other one on the road, they want something that no one else has and that is exactly what we built.

      Ron, we weren’t restoring it for you. We built it for a particular client and we built it to their specifications. We too have restored many Jeep CJ’s and each one is built for different clients with different tastes.
