Great series guys, you did an excellent job on the build, I especially admired your willingness to fab what you needed to keep rolling with the build.... lol you guys have single handedly "restored" my faith in your generation (pun intended) lol
Just a heads up the jeeps that came with wide trac axles have a different shock mount. Previously they used one welded to the frame, and one on the u bolt plate. In 82 they went to the wide trac. They did away with the shock mount to one welded to the axle and a bolt on on the frame like the wagoneers. They also notched out the inerfender to accommodate. My dads 77 and my 81 has the old style. My 82 and my dads 85 have the wide trac and the updated shock mount. Those are oem
Ive heard those are sketchy from what i have heard. Ive never driven one myself so i cant say. All 4 of our cjs have the stock configuration. Mine has lift shackles and a spring lift
Although this is a late comment compared to when you posted this, and as per Miohunter noted, it seems I always had better luck shifting into 4WD while shifting from the Reverse gear. BTW I also went to a Jesuit H.S. in Omaha, Creighton Prep, too bad we didn't have shop class :)
Mine doesnt do that. What trans did you have? 3 or 4 speed. Was it a t18, t150 , t4, t5, t176? T150 and t18 used the dana 20 t case the rest uses the dana 300. Judgeing by the dhifters he has the dana 300 with twin stick converson
@@kelumrupasinghe4051 unless he is talking about torque wind up? Somtimes going from snow to dry pavement i have to put the passenger side im the gravel or dirt on the side of the road to get the wheels to slip so it comes out of 4x4. Its from the 4x4 on dry pavement causes the axles to fight eachother when a turn is taken from the outside wheels turning faster than the inside wheels. Causes a strain on the axlea and t case so she dont shift
I know this is very old, BUT do not put lift shackles on the front! They take out all the caster in the steering and will make the Jeep dart from side to side on the road!
I noticed your Jesuit Sweat shirt ; are you in Dallas? I grew up in Arlington Texas and it looks like the area in your videos ! Nice job by the way ; you have skills and good work ethic ; have to to pull off a nice job like that!
Great vid!!!! Thank your parents for the Jesuit education that you are getting.. You will be asked about it the rest of your lives... I and a previous generation uncle of mine are alumni at Brebeuf Jesuit Prep in Indiana.. God Bless!!!!
My dad has a 66 cj5, 4 banger, 3 speed with 2 speed over drive. Been in the family since 71, my gramps drove it, totaled it, it sat im ths yard for years my dad dragged it out had the frame straightened drove it for many more years as his first car, parked it in a feild for like 10 or 15 years them my gramps got her running again gave it to my dad again he fixed it up again cause it got rusty again, then drove it a lil and parked it. Brakes and water pump went bad and sat for another 10 years. A new fuel pump, water pump, charge and turn of the key she fired on the decade old fuel, and idled rough but idled. I learned stick on that car but the brakes sucked so we added on a remlte vac booster from Australia and now the brakes are comparable to my 81 cj7 with power brakes. Not the best but at least you wont die!
I mean, I have to ask. When I was your age, I was learning by working on my $400.00, 20 year old VW Bug, with shoestrings and bubble gum. As I sit here and watch you drop[ a brand new engine and tranny in a Jeep, slap all brand new parts all over it, paint it and all of this...I mean...somebody has to ask it: Are you selling weed, son?
With Hard workanyone can make legal $$$. Im im 17 ive built a high end pc, put a new tranny and v8 in my cj, rebuilt dirtbikes ect. Ive though about making a yt channel but i cant edit for shit. Also my cj is mechanicaly new but looks is another. Shes pretty rusty
billy nelson Ok yeah, pretty sure it’s just how the selector ring is perfectly made to fit over the gears, so you just have to grind it till you find it haha.
Build Break Repeat gravels fine just things like concrete and stuff with no give when driving is bad everything but dry roads shouldnt do any damage. Turning is where the damage occures going straight is fine in 4h and 4l
You should never lock a 4 x into 4 low on solid surfaces . Especially with diff lockers. Your just asking to break something exspensive. That popping you heard was your locker popping over because something has to give and those lunchbox style lockers are the first part to give in . There has to be some slippage between the front axle and rear in 4 low and they cant find it on a hard surface.

Nice rig! Dig the color of your CJ

They should have responded to you......
ok guys I do remember this jeep build. I would like to see you rebuild and old 4x4 truck. and as usuall great work
I love to watch a craftsman work , I guess we can all learn something , don't think I would hammer on my own tools or use an adjustable wrench.
That is teflon between the springs. Its a must

Great build. super cool looking CJ
I would recommend doing a reverse shackle kit, best money I’ve ever spent on my cj5
Ive heard those are sketchy from what i have heard. Ive never driven one myself so i cant say. All 4 of our cjs have the stock configuration. Mine has lift shackles and a spring lift
chickensfloat_ on_dirtbikes mine is also a designated trail rig that gets trailered to and from so my experience would probably not reflect yours
@@jacobwhitt4151 ah ok. Good to know
Love the cj good job
you have to double take every shift manaveure, should be smooth and easy operation.
Love your jeep. What is the colour/paint you used for your jeep?
You should do spring over with stock leaves
Good job guys
Big like
Nice work
My transfer case acts the same way. Dana300
Even my other trucks are “difficult “
You could use the stick shackles on the rear and do an axle flip it'll level out
Although this is a late comment compared to when you posted this, and as per Miohunter noted, it seems I always had better luck shifting into 4WD while shifting from the Reverse gear. BTW I also went to a Jesuit H.S. in Omaha, Creighton Prep, too bad we didn't have shop class :)
She's got a nice lunchbox locker...
You deserve more views, but you will get there
In the Go Kart you should put steering at the back and acceleration would be at the front.
With that V8 engine in there you guys have to take out the transfer case what size transmission that you guys used to put with the V8 engine?
Help me out. What was your total bill on this? You guys did a fantastic job.
My old CJ you had to go in reverse to pop it out of 4wd
Lol same here

I have the dana 300 with t176 4 speed , amc 360 with a baby cam
May be your vehicle 's front axle and rear axel are not matching. I mean the wheels in the differential drive .

good job
How did it behave on the road after you did all this?
Awesome! Love this jeep!
My 84 is really easy to shift the transfer case, goes in and out of low pretty easily

Do you not have to have a front tag in Texas; seems I did when I lived there ; it's been 20+ years ago !
What will happen if you lock only one side of free wheel hub and other not.
For what are the two small levers could you explain it greetings from Panama
you got 4" lift from stock springs and 2" rear shackle?
What seats are those ?
Dry pavement, and 4 lo with a locker in the front is an awful idea haha. It can break a lot of stuff!
It's a lunchbox locker so it's not bad at all.
Stop and back up a little will help getting it into gear.

very nice jeep!!!! i really enjoy your channel:)
What year is she?
come to Austin and lets go offroad. my 77 CJ5.
So where are you or where do you ride mostly
Is that a Jesuit Dallas hoodie?
i gota get my 65 cj runnning still has the 4 banger in it??
Oh it wont take much ti run. Those dont like to die

Does the rear diff have 4.10 gears too?
Dan Hambrick Yep, she’s ready to rock now.
Gotta engage rear first then front will follow
Ideally, you shouldn't have to move to shift your transfer case. Mine ain't in great condition, but I can shift sometimes with no movement
what bullbar/bumper is this
Is this jeep your every day driver
correct me if I'm wrong don't you half to have the same ratio front and rear
I mean, I have to ask.

Yt add revenue

Very cool
Are you in Houston
A quick fix to get the front lower than the back is.............
Deflate the tires
My 83 is really hard getting in 4 wheel drive
billy nelson Ok yeah, pretty sure it’s just how the selector ring is perfectly made to fit over the gears, so you just have to grind it till you find it haha.
I have an 86 and I gota drive back and forth to get it in you'll find your sweet spot
Driving on dry pavement in 4wd it really bad for the transfer case
Street N Jeep snot really if you aren't turning everywhere. Especially 4hi is fine
Street N Jeep I didn’t know this was a thing....so Is like a gravel road ok for the t-case?
Build Break Repeat gravels fine just things like concrete and stuff with no give when driving is bad everything but dry roads shouldnt do any damage. Turning is where the damage occures going straight is fine in 4h and 4l

Just installed a performance kit on a 212 and instantly destroyed the CVT belt I’m in the process of uploading it
Mike812 Dang, was it an eBay torque converter? The belts on those things are time bombs lol.
Oh, Man. That $25 Husky jack needs to go...
First thing I noticed
If the rear gear in the jeep is 272 aswel the locker would be kinda useless cause the tcase will blow up win 4wd
You should test it on a trail. Not a parking lot
I wouldn't put any time or money into those Dana 30/35's. Just upgrade them to 44's or better.
I don't think you're supposed to use the lockers on asphalt
You have to be stopped to but in 4wd. Its not like newer 4wds.
Glad your getting a stronger axle and a locker. Dana 30s are garbage.
😍😍🔥
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🚙
congrats jeep looks like garbage now
