    I think Onana always goes long because ten hag learned the hard way that he didn’t have players at the back capable of playing out from the back other than Martinez ( and now mainoo). At first he would play it short but united conceded loads of goals as a result because they only have 2 or 3 players truly comfortable on the ball

  • @tombrady5587

    This is probably the first "Sensible Transfers" video I've seen that isn't actually very sensible. All of the players mentioned bar Raphina (and Kante lol) have been reliably linked to United already and some of them profile wise doesn't necessarily make much sense (Neves alongside Mainoo). I reckon United are actually behaving more sensibly than JJ!

    • @garydownes2111
      @garydownes2111 Месяц назад +27

      This. is it just me or is this a product of dare I say it.. laziness?
      Ralphina is the wrong age & wage profile while frankly not being that good. Kante was good but honestly probably hasn’t go the legs to play for a team that stretches play in the premier league. More importantly the data sets for both players last season was poor or doesn’t exist as in Saudi league.. so not data based then, just eyeball & vibes I guess?
      I can’t stand the facade of data based analysis when actually it’s just dressed up click bait really..

      @@garydownes2111 I think it's nowhere near as researched as ones I've seen in the past. Usually I look forward to these videos to be linked to players I've barely heard before.
      You're also right on Raphinha, good player but he turns 28 in a few months and is on big wages.
      Kante is a bit of a bizarre one as he's still a very decent player (as we saw at the Euros), but he's 33 and would be on massive wages. Surely, there's younger profiles of players who they can find with high number of defensive duels and defensive success rate?

      @@vestnivdrom6311 I don't know about that haha! Last season by virtually every statistical metric was worse. Not only was the underlying numbers almost relegation form worthy, but we finished in a lower position and with lower points.
      Ole also never finished that season and only managed a few months before Rangnick took over (assuming you're referring to 21/22, as his other seasons had United finished 6th after taking over from Jose, 3rd and then 2nd).

      Thanks Dave and you're right! The money problem is fully considered though, which is why I tried to explain (might have been cut out) that some of this is 'an ideal situation' rather than 'they should simply spend £300million'. The idea is that the sensible pick is De Ligt because Bastoni/Colwill plus the 100 other possible defenders they could buy would cost too much, and you never know with Benfica and Neves what could happen if things go the way United want. Neves is more an example of what I think United should be looking for long term, and a rare example of a top tier future player who is still available to a supposedly top tier club.

    The gap in midfield you’re describing is due to the slow defenders at Erik ten Hag's disposal, which forces him to play a lower defensive line (instead of a high defensive line that he preferes) and that creates a ‘gap’ when the team presses high. I suggest you study Ten Hag's style and philosophy a bit more, especially his time at Ajax, before making analysis and claims about him.

  • @Shappy86
    @Shappy86 Месяц назад +6

    This feels a little rushed and not really deeply considered. MdL is a good player, but not really a perfect fit, heavily plays at RCB where United have just signed Yoro, definitely can't cover LB as suggested. Branthwaite would make more sense if we are going more on the side of fantasy (due to cost).
    Maybe a more sensible option would be Arthur Theate who is a similar player in profile to Martinez (the player he'd essentially be covering) while has played at LB so could cover there as well. Or possibly Murrilo from Forest if you want an EPL proven option.
    Manuel Ugarte probably is the best option in midfield, if you're looking for a similar profiled alternative who might be a little cheaper you have Morten Frendrup from Genoa.
    While LB is an issue due to injury, it is likely AWB will leave this summer leaving Dalot as the only option at RB. Therefore a RB would make sense. Micheal Kayode would be an interesting understudy to Dalot with huge potential. Or maybe look at Ferdi Kadioglu as a versatile squad option capable of covering both fullback positions and even as a winger if needed.
    Raphinha does make sense, especially with a very inexperienced forward line (Rashford at 26 is the oldest and most experienced forward). If United wanted a younger possibly slightly cheaper option (Fees might be similar but wages would be much lower) they should look at Johan Bakayoko from PSV. However, given his experience (especially EPL), his close bond with Bruno, and being fairly achievable, Raphinha does make a lot of sense.
    Maybe something like Theate, Kadioglu, Ugarte and Raphinha being the ideal signings to add to Yoro and Zirkzee.

    United do have Harry Amass at left back and Toby Collyer for defensive midfield, both of whom will likely be at least squad players.
    Neves would be a dream signing though I think he's probably out of reach as he's likely to go to PSG for An Lot, which is why Ugarte is available.
    I think Amad might be first choice on the right wing too.
    Last season was so disrupted by injuries that it's hard to judge where United are, but I'm pretty sure that Amass, Amad and in particular Collyer in central midfield are intended to play big roles this season.
    Yoro and Zirkzee both seem likely to be significant upgrades on the players they replace, Mount, Shaw, Martinez and Malacia are all close to full fitness and the youth integrated last season are now in the squad for this.
    If Neves were possible then absolutely go get him, if he isn't.. you know, I'm not even sure they should push for Ugarte.
    Shift Lindelof or Maguire to bring in De Ligt and I'd say that's a really strong window.

Zubimendi/Pepelu/Tchouameni would be the dream but probably wont happen for obvious reasons. So if we cannot get any of them i think its better to wait till next summer to sort out the 6 and maybe give Collyer some gametime. I'd rather not go for a LB so that Amass still has a pathway into the first team. De Ligt, Kadioglu/Mazraoui (to replace AWB) and Johan Bakayoko might be the perfect ending to the window if at all possible.

    Forget Rafinha and attack. Get Joao Neves and defenders. Need a base to build attacks from. And he and Mainoo are young enough to keep stability in the squad for several seasons (I know PSG will probably get him.)
