** Lyrics **
I don't mean to dwell
But I can't help myself
When I feel the vibe
And taste a memory
Of a time in life
When years seemed to stand still
I close my eyes
And sink within myself
Relive the gift of precious memories
In need of a fix called innocence
When did it begin?
The change to come was undetectable
The open wounds expose the importance of
Our innocence
A high that can never be bought or sold
[Chorus:]
Symbolic acts - so vivid
Yet at the same time
Were invisible
[Solo: Schuldiner / Solo: Koelble]
Savor what you feel and what you see
Things that may not seem important now
But may be tomorrow
Do you remember when
Things seemed so eternal?
Heroes were so real...
Their magic frozen in time
The only way to learn
Is be aware and hold on tight
I close my eyes
And sink within myself
Relive the gift of precious memories
In need of a fix called innocence
When did it begin?
The change to come was undetectable
The open wounds expose the importance of
Our innocence
A high that can never be bought or sold
[Repeat chorus]

RIP Chuck, you were a pearl in a sea of shit. Thank you for all the pleasure you gave me.
Do you wanna make me cry? :'(
Sorry mate ;-)
Pleasure; pain
We all need light in darkness...
Chuck was a gem aka pearl.
yeah man
Greatest metal band of all time.
Wow, never really read the lyrics before, so cool and decent - yet so BRUTALLY presented. RIP.
Deallll
with slayer
Great band, but never will be like MAIDEN!
dave murray hahahah nice joke xD
0:28
Chuck: "We're gonna play it extra fast to get as much out as we can"
Drummer: "No god please no"
The guy screaming "JUDAS PRIEST!" at the beginning lol
he soon realised he was at the right concert
They did a cover of Judas Priest Painkiller
@Maddog how so? cover was on the release...
Best concert. live in L.A
Love both bands tbh
For the ones who doesn't notice this, playing at that tempo with that quality is barely impossible for any other band. This is gorgeous
it kills me how he goes "we'll try play as fast as we can" ... i bet Richard went "oh dear" ... LOL
Wow
3:05 let me just scratch my nose while hammering on to my legendary solo at 1.2x speed...Goddamnit Chuck! God take me and bring him back!
Fuck yeah man it is mind blowing words don't bring it justice!
Even Max Phelps can't do that part properly. It's truly a hard part, at least the way chuck does it is insane.
A bunch of healthy talented dudes making amazing music in the 90s. I can only imagine where they would be today as a band had Chuck stayed with us.
good singers dying and bunch of stupid fucks creating creepy music
palonero Death Would have broken up, and Chuck would have continued with Control Denied.
Chuck Schuldiner wasn't really that healthy during this time.
Drug wise they were clean
@____ amen
3:04 during solo he touches his nose... damn only HE can do that!
Actually that was just good legato
that move looked pretty funny, i dont know why
@@oyc7946 instead of tryn Dad son stuff wich isnt working, you could just apreciate the moment.Peace \/
@@ugsdit5296 it was so spontaneous
Pretty sure anyone with hands could his touch his nose like that, it's not hard
As genius as Chuck's vocals and guitar are, can we take a moment to circle jerk how fucking insane Richard Christy's drumming is?
Damn this version is fast. Yet so much control! Talk about musicality......
This is the definitive version, big imo.
Lars: "nervously sweating"
i like how richard christy on the last album slipped out of time but everyone followed him though idk if their other albums used a click track either
absolutely insane how fast they played on this one, so much control, so accurate. nobody does this these days like chuck did. rest in peace my friend, you will never be forgotten.
DAT SOLO!!! DAT SHREDDING!!! Chuck was seriously skilled.
The guy could shred AND singing at the same time...
Hassan Ahmed but most importantly he knew perfectly when to go all the way in and when to play just the right stuff to serve the song. That's an even better skill
Dave Mustaine can too
Jari from wintersun couldn't do that, imagine the talent
@@mr.immortal1614 mustaine is skilled but he plays a lot of dead notes soo....
The lyrics to this song are absolutely amazing; they're extremely real, totally relevant to the human condition. They're not pretentious, or obscure philosophy that may or may not resonate or apply. No, these lyrics are relevant to each and every person to some degree or another. This is art plain and simple. The human race is impoverished at the loss of this man.
Damn you said that well
Aside from the absolute tonal masterpiece these guys created. The reason I really fell in love with this band as a young man is that the words chuck spoke rang true to all of the things that troubled me as a young man trying to find my way and find true friends. If it wasn't for death I don't think I'd have know what to look for in a real friend. I'm eternally grateful.
@@ntbbarrion there more than just a band which is what I love
Chuck is the William Blake of Metal. Fuckin visionary
@@ntbbarrionDeath's Symbolic helped me through the hardest times of my life. I never really got into Death until my 20s, despite being really into extreme metal. Then I lost a family member and went through a lot of mental bullshit, and the one thing that kept me going was Chuck's lyrics. I had the album on repeat, every single day. I'm convinced if it weren't for that, I wouldn't still be here.
Chuck wrote incredible music. Not just entertainment, but high art. I mean, all music is art to a certain degree, but Chuck was on another level. "Empty Words" so perfectly encapsulates the feeling of hopelessness and searching. It's when you're desperate for any way out, but all you find are empty words from friends, family, peers, and mentors. Even religious texts and philosophers seem like meaningless utterances that do nothing to improve your situation; "the answer can't be found in the writing of others". You gotta find that yourself. And that's true to everyone, regardless of their background.
The amazing thing about Death is that, arguably, it only got better with age. Most bands start off great, when they're young and have a lot to say, then go downhill as they age out. Death was the opposite. Chuck just kept getting better at songwriting. The Sound of Perseverance is arguably Death's best album, and it was the last thing he ever put out.
It is very sad the world has been robbed of potential art he would've created had he not died of cancer. But that's life; one great, big tragedy. At least we have the albums he did to creat to treasure and get us through the tough times. His music will always be relevant and will continue to help and inspire people as long as there will be human beings.
man Richard Christy is so damn good and very underrated, I love this version, super fucking fast but tight as fuck!!!I miss Chuck so much
Best drummer in Death imo
Those cymbals uhhhhhh
yes.
@@serhafiye7046 All drummers in Death was superb. Chuck knew very well who he invited to his project.
Did anyone else notice Chuck scratch his nose while he was playing a part around 3 minutes or so and still play the part. It was brief
I think it's pretty simple, he was using a hammering technique with his left hand that didn't require right hand picking for that riff. And that's my favorite part of the solo.
I just thought it was funny cause the flow of the music didnt stop. Which I am sure many have to itch while the solo is going on lol
Brandon Manczak
Actually, The live sound and playing is seemingly so good and I took notice when Chuck was adjusting his microphone while he was playing and there didn't seem to be any discontinuity in sound. I wondered if this live set has some post production enhancements or at least in those awkward moments the other guitarist may be emphasized in the the mix. If not then it's one hell of a performance from all.
NGC6144 That was an already fast song to begin with, and to be able to play it faster is so bad ass. Yes they will go down in history as one of the best metal bands, Plus I noticed the chorus had a lot more groove to it.
yes, while he s making solo with legatos with one hand xD
Richard nailed all Gene's drum part , thats great
The drummer is fucking incredible
Holy crap, they play some parts at nearly 2X the speed. Richard Christy was a machine back then. What a band. This album is always on rotation
If you ever sit down and listen to his lyrics or even just read them , they were very very thought out and had such a meaning and story mix that with a sound nobody can really touch and you have urself one of the most musical geniuses of an era
3:11 I love how fast he recovered and brought it back after that hiccup. dude was a master of his craft.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you: Richard Christy on drums
holy fuck that tempo is so fucking fast. Schuldiner was a beast, RIP God Chuck
As a thrash metal fan, I have never had the knack for death metal until I have discovered Death. God damn it! I have a playlist in Tidal named "Death" that has all their awesome songs so I can just listen to them as opposed mixing it with other artists tracks. RIP Chuck and thank you for such awesome riffs and lyrics. God bless!
All real thrash metal fans I've met loved death, the death metal community never appreciated chuck as they should...
Altho chuck never liked to be named as death metal, more like prog-thrash.
@@sepehr-9210 according to wikipedia he just said death was a "metal" band
@@sepehr-9210 The death metal community in general only likes 280 bpm songs, dissonant riffs, machine gun drums and braindead lyrics. They don't have the necessary mental refinement to understand a band like Death and a genius like Chuck.
and unlistenable vocals cough cannibal corpse cough @@al_zera
Richard killing the drums
All Death drummers are amazing but Christy is my favorite
3:05 ‘let me do these hammer-ons so I can wipe this sweat out of my eyes ‘ 😊 one of the all time greatest. RIP Chuck
Some really good legato going on there
judas priest??????
you have death right in front of you killin it
Jorgito Pacheco probably wanted them to play painkiller
That cover hadn't been yet released at the time that show took place.
True
Maybe they played live somewhere or people heard they would cover it.
0:04
Drummer absolutely kills it. And chuck of course. Happy birthday legend
These riffs are hypnotic...
Everytime i listen to DEATH, i feel so bad, this band had lot to offer to us fans, RIP CHUCK
Nikunj Bataju
I think the same thing
I try and be greatful for what chuck gave us on his time here on earth rip chuck
Don't be sad. This band ended before Chuck's death.
@@nose-bleedare you crazy??Death never had a bad album
@@marcotaproot that's not what I meant lol Chuck literally was done with death and went to a new project. Death's discography is complete! He wasn't going to release anything else
Holy shit richard is speeding this one up haha.
THANK YOU! FINALLY SOMEONE NOTICE THE FCKNG SPEED UP TEMPO
😂😂😂😂
He was sick with the flu, that's why he sped it up. He wanted to go back to the tour bus and vomit. It's insane to think of.
@@anish3183 playing a death set sick with the flu would be brutal
This guy Chuck was a real talented musician and this concert is a masterpiece.
They were a complete band at that point , completely in sync with eachother, and not to mention chucks insane solo right there
Incredible singing off meter to his prolific guitar skills- glad I caught Death playing, they literally saved my life. RIP Chuck
Chucks solo was killer
I don't mean to dwell
But I can't help myself
When I feel the vibe
And taste a memory
Of a time in life
When years seemed to stand still!Thanx! R.I.P, Schuldiner!!
Damn they play this fast as fuck, I dig it. Talented dudes.
Played faster at least 15-20% from the studio original. Masters. 🖤
These group of people are some of the most amazing musicians I've ever seen. The drummer really stands out in this song too, absolutely flawless. Also how the hell does he sing and play that type of riff at the same time?
very precise, without a doubt.
Dat tempo!!!, the drummer is totally out of this world, speed and precision together
Richard Christy is like Dave Lombardo on speed!
Chuck schuldiner amazing vocals. Simbolic masterpiece album
DEATH presented the standard specification of death metal definitely.
those first two opening riffs played fast sound so much cooler with the pinch harmonic
best death metal band ever
forever
MetalMonsta \m/ Definitely
Marcelo Romell Opeth is also *pretty* good, but yeah, Death is Death
- Kèlemavh - But Opeth aren't Death Metal.
Yep my favorite death metal band right along side morbid angel, deicide and cannibal corpse
I love the sound of the X2N in Chuck's Guitar
Keklord Megafag also the valvestate
Svilen Denchev big fan of the triple dippler myself
When he said they were going to play really fast he wasn't joking...holy shit!
This band has seen me through some tough times. Greatest metal band of all time
Holy shit dude they were hauling ass through this 😂 Chuck was like you better pick it up boys we only got 10 minutes left and we’re not cuttin’ the set 😂 They still nailed it though their musicianship is unreal
One of the most talented musicians to pick up a guitar.
Richard still does not get enough love. Easily one of the most Insane metal drummers of all time. Gene is a beast but Richard literally took genes shit that was already so technical and somehow made it even more technical
that drummer is murdering the show !

Good to be able to see the maestro in action \m/
Can we take a minute to notice how big of an intellectual lyrical genius Chuck was. Those lyrics are for rebels and revolutionaries...!!!
Chuck was intellectual Prophet!
I love this band with all my heart rip chuck 💙
Flawless!!! Chuck was such a genius. Sad that he left us too soon. I'm sure he had so much more music in him to give to us. On a side note, he's kinda ripped too lol
shit this song is so freacking awesome
I miss Chuck so much....
Am I the only one who think this song is beautiful?
Death can't be dead!
This is just pure perfection!!!
the drummer is insane tho
Kick ass show. It's a shame Chuck is gone. He was definitely one of the masterminds of metal.
Symbolic. Best album of Death 👍
I like it on 3:04, when Chuck scratches his nose :D
He was amazing, and though his band was "Death", he loved life. So sad he's gone.
Jesus. “ It is a memory, of a time in life when years seem to stand still” 🤘
MY fucking God- Christy and Schuldiner are in God-mode...
Один из лучших музыкантов, в мире!
This solo and insane speed while also singing proves this man was a legend. Absolutely shred-tastic.
I aspire to play like chuck, and i can hold my own on a FEW of his riffs, but i cannot sing while focusing that much on the fretboard. This man is legendary, very few can shred like he did and maintain controlled vocals at the same time.
OMG!!! still a great great moment when i watch this amazing band, RIP Chuck! I guess that we all miss Chuck!!!
This is simply amazing....a pure metal soul an mind ✨️🤘
God this is insane 🤯🧡❤️🤘
R.I.P metal god :-(
1 of the bands I never had the privilege to see live, and will unfortunately never will. Thanx DeathinHD for the excellent live footage, sounds great!
The drumming here is fucking incredible
Прекрасно, симболик для меня лучший концерт. Жаль, Чак Шульдинер рано покинул нас. Любим , скорбим. R.I.P. Покойся с миром, он был одним из немногих музыкантом от Бога...😢❤
Thanks for adding these in HD (: awesome track! one of my favourites from Death. Rest in Peace, chuck \,,/
I love this live version of chuck's solo.
The GOD OF DEATHMETAL R.I.P CHUCK SCHULDINER
a time in which what you have to say and play counted more than the show itself ...
This was my wedding song.
1:44 best riff in death metal EVER and FOREVER!
Chuck did it so effortlessly! Insane talent
I just love that, well I guess "chorus" riff so much
Amazing, Chuck is such an awesome dude. RIP my man. If it wasn't for you, I don't know where the best metal would be today. I don't think a band has ever, and will ever be able to compare to Death \m/
Death made metal what it is today, plain and simple
Jedan jedini i najveci Charles Michael Chuck Schuldiner \m/.... Keep the Metal Faith Alive....! R.I.P.
Nitko, ali bas nitko nece biti kao on.
Mustaine in the segurity xd
Bro I would say this is the best performance but all of their performances are fucking insane 😭 I’m convinced chuck wasn’t from this world
This is great! Respect from Russia!
My fucking God. I am blown away. Not by Death; I'm used to that. I heard the audio only of this. I fully assumed it was Hoglan. I was thinking to myself, "Damn Gene's better than ever on this!" I had NO CLUE it was Richard Christy nor that he's that good!
Christy is my favorite!!
Chuck is such a bad ass i wish i would have met his drummer
Such an underrated band
Today is 10 years when he left :(
R.I.P. Chuck.
You will be not forgotten!
earlier this week, it was 20 years. 😥💔🙏
Extreme quality of music.
i listen to death b4 i arive in the office and after business hours. it was an everyday routine, i never get tired of listening to it. RIP chuck.
Broo DEATH band is the beast band for year rest in peace chuck
Thanks for the upload!!! I've been looking for this concert in HD
Goosebumps every time.
