After the 96 Olympics, I didn't watch again until 2008. That being said, I had no idea Cheng Fei is a 2x Olympian. Her floor exercise here is captivating, dazzling and stunning. She's amazing!
I feel so bad for Wang Tiantian. She started out really strong with a beautiful DLO but after the 2nd tumbling pass, you could see each tumbling pass becoming more labored and her spending more time in each corner preparing for her tumbling. I can imagine Wang's fall causing some mental issues for Zhang because she fell on her first tumbling pass whereas Wang fell on her first. At any rate, I salute these athletes. Gymnastics is hard and becoming an Olympian is no easy feat. I can't imagine how tired their bodies are training their whole lives for 1 or 2 Olympic Games, the jet lag for travel, qualifying, event finals, etc. Salute to all these ladies!
Yeah, unfortunately after Fan Ye’s frightening fall on the UB dismount, the team just began collapsing. It was followed by Li Ya’s 2 falls on beam before ending with this. I do salute these women because gymnastics is just such an intense sport. I was happy they redeemed themselves in Beijing. Cheng Fe deserved Olympic medals and I’m happy she got them.
Such a shame what happened to them that year. They had such great potential - in fact, if you took their best individual scores from throughout the meet they could have easily challenged Romania for the Gold. Despite the falls in this rotation they actually had a very strong lineup of floor workers here. Their tumbling was certainly a lot stronger than what we've seen from China in recent years.
17 years later, team China also crumbled in Tokyo's team finals. The only person who held it together was Zhang Jin, it's too bad that it wasn't enough because all her teammates had at least 1 fall
@@mht4908 Very frustrating, with the system China has in place for pipelining talent it's disappointing for them to at least not medal as a team. They never seem to learn, but they adapt well to each COP I feel like, and still...
That was fantastic from Cheng Fei.. a shame about the prior falls from others.. Zhang never stopped pulling in on her full in and Wang looked exhausted and probably should have just done a double twist and taken the SV hit as she was nowhere near around on the triple twist..

I had no idea that Cheng Fei had to go up last with so much pressure after the first two fell. Makes the performance even more incredible imo.
