What a Chinese team. Liu Xuan full of grace and smiles. Great bars and wonderdul beam, 2 time Olympian. Ling Jie gave us a peak of modern UB routines and had an amazing beam. Huang Mandan beautiful on bars. Dong Fangxiao ahead of her time, had a DTY, round off layout full on bb and her tumbling is still strong to this day. Yang Yun the best All arounder of the team and one of the best of the games, her team final vault is one of the prettiest vaults I've ever seen, beautiful bars with always a stuck double layout at the end and a big smile; beautiful, original and difficult beam and her floor routine had so much style and grace. Kui Yuanyuan sadly re injured her knee in the prelims on vault but it's a world champion on floor, performed one of the most amazing beam routines in history and it's one of the few Chinese gymnasts to compete in 2 Olympic games. This team was so strong, elegant and talented!!
It's unfortunate that Dong Fangxiao was found to be underage, this team was so talented. I feel especially bad for Huang Mandan, she was so strong on bars, but was excluded from bar finals due to the 2 per country rule, and now she doesn't even have her Olympic medal. Kui Yuanyuan as well, such a shame about the injury
@@mht4908 yes and she was perfect in prelims, she must've felt so bad that even with her best it wasn't enough. Also Kui worked so hard just to get injured in that suspicious Sydney vault. Oh well... still just making the Olympics representing China is a HUGE accomplishment, medal or no medal, considering how deep their talent pool is. Hope these girls realized that then and now❤❤
22 years forward and China, together with Russia, still carrying on their backs the artistic part of the sport. I also think Netherlands is doing it's part too. Anyway, all of the routines shown here are beautiful! Even Dong Fangxiaos' that is using a very VERY V E R Y overused song, still presents and interesting choreography and expression. A delight to watch.
So here's the story: Chinese gymnast Dong Fangxiao competed in the 1999 World Championships and 2000 Sydney Olympics. After 1996 the minimum age to compete as a senior elite gymnast was raised to 16. Dong was registered in FIG records as having been born in 1983, however when she was working as a national technical officer during the Beijing 2008 Olympic games, her documents stated she was born in 1986, making her 14 in 2000. In 2010 the investigation concluded and it was found out she was underage and the Chinese team were stripped their medals away to be given to originally 4th place Team USA.
Yang Yun was 14 as well and she admitted it and said the coaches just handed her new credentials one day and told her "You're 15 now". Props to her for admitting it on TV and apologizing even though she didn't control the situation.
It is kind creepy, for me at least, to normalize that kids are competing on high standards perform sports like gymnastics and ice skating and diving. I am not criticizing, I just put myself as a dad and think I would be worried to see my children working so hard.
I swear...if Ling Jie ever learned to drive her arms and block up before twisting rather than just letting herself bounce back somewhere while pre-rotating her upper body...she could've ruled the world.
I love her gymnastics, but you have a point. Besides that failure I think she is so polished. I find it so chic when they place their arms like the divers do while twisting.
I really loved the direction team China took with FX during this cycle, each routine was interesting, artistic and memorable. I feel like it in recent years it's just all been recycled Adi Pop poses to random background music.
Where can I find all the floor routines from Sydney 2000 on qualifications? I want to see the Namibian gymnast gharde geldenhuys 4 routines from sydney
Those Russians came for business! Too bad they got beat by a tenth of a point. Had not Ekaterina Lobazyuk fell or Khorkina that gold medal was there’s!
It would have been moot because they were disqualified for underage violations. Too bad. Their FX round was like a journey--each routine was so different & beautifully choreographed by a professional with the Beijing Ballet (? - corrections welcome).
@@vannthybun2546 Yes they should not have been allowed to keep it. It's just a unfortunate situation especially for the girls, their coaches made the call to falsify Dong and possibly Yang's ages, and they had to face the scrutiny of being the "medal thieves" or "cheaters" when they had nothing to do with it. The coaches and Chinese officials are the ones to blame, not them. I especially feel bad for Huang Mandan and Kui Yuanyuan, both are serious medal threats in their respective events, yet one was barred due to the 2 per country rule, the other due to injury.
