I have been to countless live shows of every genre in my life…I truly feel that Local Natives may be the best I’ve ever seen. It’s ridiculous how good they are.
Saw them this week. Can confirm.
That's interesting... I've always wanted to see them but haven't gotten the chance. The best live performance I've ever seen was Kings of Leon at ACL, but I'm open to being proven wrong. I feel like it's a win/win for me.
I'm little 9 years late to the party.
vizavi kintso me tooo!!!
me too bro
But you arrived
I’m 11 years late 😭
I’m must be 11 years
Wish they recorded an acoustic album of all their songs. Their live versions always sound incredible.
their itunes session has some acoustic tracks
there's an itunes session and a spotify sessions album
Alex Rizzutto We need MTV Unplugged back from the nineties! I still watch STP's, Nirvana's and Pearl Jam's unplugged shows regularly, and there are so many bands today that could do great things with acoustic instruments. This video is just one among many!
@@rockmusic111 that would be such a welcomed return!
Crazy how big they are now....still one of my favorite tiny desks!
is anybody else disappointed they didnt do World News for the NPR
HAHAHA ,,, THERE ARE SOME MANY SONGS THE DIDN'T PLAY
I already liked Local Natives but seeing this video made me love them even more.
Yess fellow black girl
it just looks like everyone in the band should be named "Travis".
A mustache like that, how could you not?
I love you.
tru im hard
It’s magnificent
Ikr!

i couldn't tell which guy was sing high and which was singing low until the last song
The first guy
Yeah! They delegate their vocals so well!
They're singing many parts in octaves and I can tell you this is one of the hardest things in music because both parts Intonation needs to be absolutely on point. And these guys did it just perfect!!
They should've played World News, there's a lyric about NPR in it haha
I literally just found these guys about about hour ago and I honestly have never loved a band as much as I love these guys.
Glad you found them! They truly are a gem. Such a beautiful band in every way possible.
If you like Local Natives youll love Avindale very underground but they're stuff is gold :D don't confuse them with Avondale though lol
+Hasan Hejazi hey they're a local band here in my hometown! my friend is actually cousins with the drummer :)
tiffany rodriguez nice yeah I'm also from el paso haha but Avindale isn't the same anymore and they're new stuff is gonna be more electronic indie :(
Yes please. I live in Avondale. Over the past number of years we have frequent visits from Avindale music fans looking for their band members. Please leave us alone, we are running out of avocado toast due to these ppl.
killer stache killer music
good. but on their Take Away Show, they were amazing. Idk how that channel always has the best sound when filming in weird locations
How can you dislike this video. Rare to find a band like this. With naturally good voices. Look at their other stuff
they look hella tired. sound good though. I've seen some live performances of theirs where they just aren't on, slightly off with harmonies and what not. but despite how exhausted they look for this performance they're sounding frickin awesome.
Nick Stephens theyre just stoned
lol I was about to say tired?
Cards and Quarters sounded perfect. That's the way to do it.
Where's the comment about "the guy in the back making sandwiches in case they get hungry..."? =)
justforever96 Didn't the top used to be about him making sushi? O.o
I made the original comment years ago about the sandwich and it disappeared when the RUclips format changed. A lot of people copied it with sushi and other stuff.
Cards and Quarters is such a masterpiece. The drumming is so tactful and subtly brilliant. And, my God, the harmonies...
I agree 100%
I've listened to this Tiny Desk over 20 times just for that song.
The harmonies
Sends chills all throughout my body
THAT FREAKIN BASS! No one cares about bass but it makes the music.
Out of all the amazing live recordings of 'Airplanes', this is their best performance. Flawless. All 3 songs are expertly done.
Hearing these guys live at Osheaga this year was a true privilege. They are incredibly hard working and to say they sound amazing is an understatement. Local Natives are band everybody needs to see live to believe that they're one of the most outstanding and yet underrated bands in North America right now. You'd be kicking yourself if you decided to skip their set at any festival.
Just saw them live in SD last Thursday. Before it, they already had a special spot in my heart, with their vocals feeling a little melancholy to me, and the beautiful & novel arrangement of their songs (esp dat percussion ;D). Seeing them live though.. man, I have to say it was a once in a lifetime, absolutely amazing show. I already can't wait for the next time I'll see them~
I was also there. I travelled all the way from Mexico City to San Diego just to see them. One of the best shows I've ever been on.
More like Local Muses, holy shit.
I don't think I'll ever find another acoustic set I love more than this.
+Brandon Grimmett their sets with La Blogtheque are equally as beautiful.
Check out the tenamentTV one with them in it! Equally as dreamy ❤️
Nirvana unplugged
Check out pinegroves tiny desk
Wide Eyes = no words can describe this songs beauty. oh to see it with my own eyes.
They are so genuinely passionate about the music, it makes it so real and beautiful. Absolutely love them.
.."could it ever be on Earth as it is in Heaven?"
Came from a opening band 10 years ago to now in 2020 making it big. Patience is key
This version of Wide Eyes sounds very similar to Tesselate by Alt-J
I was thinking the same thing!! O.o
This is so f**cking relaxing
Is that Darwin Deez on bass?? lol jk
It’s good to revisit this every once in a while
Wide eyes got me Wide eyed thanks for the trip
I was actually waiting for "oooohWOOOOAHH-WOOOOAHHH" thing that usually happens around 8:35. Are these guys phenomenal or what
I've come to conclude that people who try to be different are cool, and likeable, and not hipsters. "Hipsters", per se, are those who go around and ADVERTISE how "unique" and "trendy" they are. That defines a "hipster" to me. I like unique, odd individuals; I dislike those who PRETEND to be "unique" just because it is the "cool" thing to do. That is bullshit. You should listen to whatever you enjoy, not judge it based on how "commercial" it is. If you refuse a band because of that...well....
This whole channel is just amazing. I love you NPR. And Local Natives!
One of the absolute greatest bands to listen to
ahh, nothing like great harmonies after a long day
Kelcey's voice is so beautiful
This video makes me realize that my biggest regret in life, was not studying music and trying to form a band with my best friends.
This is why I love Local Natives, such a remarkably majestic band.
i love people that love the local natives
Indeed. I see we have a mutual connection already xD
Ha ha ha without a doubt
Ya know you're the only guy I've met who also loves Local Natives? Plus, you look pretty cool (making an assumption) based on your profile pic haha. Just saying ;P do you like similar artists? (:
"We met on youtube"
That mustache
Taylor Rice is perfect
is it just me or is the singer really cute ?????
its just you
***** oh
DEFINITELY not just you. He is out of this world hot.
They are all singers...
That doesn't make any sense because their is no lead singer in this group. All 4 sing the three in the front only sang in this performance for some reason. Soooooo.............
Hummingbird is such a good album, disputing this one for the best album
Old Bird Wing my family and I constantly argue about which album is best😂 I loove Sunlit Youth x
Maaaaaaaaaaan these guys are so damn good!! Love them..summer days...sweet surf and a girl in my arms...melodies of pure heart felt love! Keep going Local Natives....you fill so many souls and hearts! Big beautiful hugs! x
This the only good thing about npr. They do two things, music and government funded propaganda.
Their songs are so much better when they play it live! I don't understand why in the studio recordings they change the arrangement and add unnecessary synthesised sounds.
I second that way better just raw, they'd definitely find more fans this way :)
because every band is free to experiment with their sound, especially when they gain momentum and success the way local natives has. everyone has their opinions but a band as good as this always has my support with whatever new thing they're trying to put across.
sad that they didn't play mt. Washington
Humans make the best shit
Cloud Ambush hell naw dude. Goat techno
airplanes though :O
+Liam Lane haha i always skip the video right after the second song.
Still beautiful in 2015
Still beautiful in 2016
Still beautiful in 3005
so we just gonna ignore Ryans hair?
3:35 There're so many shelves all around and Kelcey keeps his water on the floor...
Airplanes makes me feel like I soar. I love it all
notice the Talking Heads album on shelve, the same one with Warning signs????
Such a harmonizing, beautiful, special performance! You could feel the love and energy through their music every time!! Much love and blessings from Canada to everyone reading this!!!
I have only one problem with this video: it's not longer.
Dude, that's the MOST important member of any band...The Sandwich Guy. It's nice to see a band so progressive as to actually give him a stage spot; usually they are part of the "backstage gang". He must make one hell of a pastrami and rye.
Pretty sure I see these dudes at Pho Cafe every timer
this is/was/always will be amazing
Heh, kinda thought they might throw that one in there for the npr reference.
This is one of the best live performances I've ever heard; even my Dad's feel'n it- really timeless talent.
"Infectious" is the perfect word for their music.
Guy in the back is pumping up their fixy bike tires.
I really enjoy their music! But I couldn't help but hear "steal away in a cave made of cheese." Sounded good to me! :)
Of course this is amazing...it is impossible not to fall in love with everything Local Natives does. I wish they had done "World News" for this Tiny Desk Concert, though! It's all about NPR, after all. :)
Can't believe I haven't seen this since 2011... holy shit they sure have come so far 💓
MaryJane Ramos it honestly brought a tear to my eye. I feel like a proud mom 😭💕
***** same here! :-( let's just wish and hope the best for them, and honestly wish that I can get to see them one day lol missed every opportunity that would come up :/
sounds beautiful but was this filmed with a potato?
No, but it was filmed 7 years ago, when the average cost of a new house was $262,260.00... a gallon of gas cost you $3.52... The Royal Wedding between Kate Middleton and Prince William takes place in the United Kingdom...The popular band R.E.M. announces they are breaking up after thirty-one years...US Actor Charlie Sheen is fired from one of the most popular TV comedies Two and a Half Men after getting into a dispute with the show's creator and demonstrating increasingly erratic behavior. ...Apple releases the iPhone 4S on October 14th, only nine days after the death of co-founder Steve Jobs... And nobody gives a shit if this was filmed with a potato, because 4K wasn't a thing back then...
Was anyone else expecting "World News"?
12:35 "was that cool soundwise?" ummm. no. its was fan-freaking-tastic.
Yeah just saw Local natives live. Wasn't even a huge fan at the time, but they absolutely killed it. So much energy, like it was one if their first shows. Also, before the show, one went on a bike ride, the other a run, and another had a kettle bell lol. Staying in shape I gues
Taylor got that Tommy Wiseau laugh going on.
NPR tiny desk concerts: Infinitely better than BBC live lounges.
I was not expecting what came out of them. I really enjoyed this.
CARDS AND QUARTERS!!!!
THE best mustache that came across in NPR since ever! still hunts me! remember the first time I saw this clip, back in 2012, both amazed and amused. Cheers from Portugal 🍻 ps: yeap, I still see this vid in 2023!
The guy in the back is making sandwiches in case the rest of the group gets hungry.
My brother and I once took part in an audition for some music industry guys. They criticized us because we didn't "look the part." It's not like we were dressed in wetsuits or chicken costumes or anything; we just wore our regular street clothes. I couldn't figure out what they meant by looking the part. Watching this...sadly, I think I get it.
This album was truly elite
at the end of this performance Kelcey looks at someone gesturing, was that good? alright? yeah it was good.
hahahaha (haters gonna hate in regards to the other guy who replied to your comment)but i think you're just saying what everyone else is thinking. i found your comment rather hilarious :D
Pure, raw, music. Finally. This is awesome.
Have watched this dozens of times. Still magical. Love me some Local Natives.
These guys are great musicians
their fucking music speaks to me
watched them play at the Way Over Yonder Festival with my friend JACK DANIELS man i sang along to all of there songs
Love this band!!!! You guys should contact Foxygen and get them to do one of these!!!
No man thats a awesome looking moustache it makes the just that little moric orginal. But I cant deny that I first thought about mario, but I dont care I mario and nintendo
Tom Zé is right up there!
Hahahahaha "they don't give afuck what they look like" hahahaha hahahhahaHHAHAHHAHAHAHAH yea right
Poor guy in the back :P
Attention everyone! There are approximately 161 people who hate, but, can't sing, nor play any instrument, that decided to put a thumbs down on this video.... shame on them. Local Natives live, is amazing... if only, this is what 2021 needs.
The guy in the back is filling out a sushi menu
Robin Pecknold from Fleet Foxes handing them the guitar at 08:13 lmaoo
love the percussion on this!
steal away to a cave made of sheep
Sheets
still beautifull in 2024
it is so nice to hear music that makes you feel happy to be alive
My favorite TinyDesk. Even better than The Avett Brothers or Edward Sharpe.
Sorry, to clarify, I like people who ARE different, not people who PRETEND to be different. You shouldn't have to "try" to be different. If you do, then you're most likely a hipster.
